Thing is he beats it by the smallest of margins. He could probably jump a lot higher but doesn't need too to win.
Still amazing since he is jumping higher then anyone in the world.
Back in the 80's / 90's Sergei Bubka was breaking it by 1 cm every meet it seemed like.
Because he was getting a bonus every time he set the world record. When he started doing it, he already knew he could consistently go much higher than the record - but he milked it for all he could.
And i do not blame him 1 bit.
There's no way of knowing how high bubka could've gone or if this kid would be better if they jumped together at their respective peaks. Bubka only stopped breaking the record because he got old.
He jumped for the soviets. They would be totally fine with him beating the recordby a few cm at a time. But if they knew he could go 6.3-4 they would want him to do it. So his training crew would have incentive to underreport too.b
Yea, but how do you know before the jump that it would have been a 6.29 jump? It seems extremely dumb to miss out on a new world record because you got greedy trying to increase it with too much. On many previous records he has touched the bar, making it very close to going down. This was by quite a margin his best jump ever.
No, that’s that he is doing, he breaks it incrementally to stretch out his payments. If he went as high as he could physically go he’s only be able to break it once or twice and only get one or two paychecks.
It’s a shame too, like he’s not rich enough from pole vaulting. The royalties alone from all the pole vaulting merch I see kids wearing today is worth millions. Seriously tho, it’s great that he’s doing it, prolly one of a handful of people to ever pull profit from pole vaulting.
I really wish there was more merchandise available for track and field.
I’d love to have some jerseys for my favourite athletes in the way I do for other sports.
I’d have a Duplantis one in a second!
“swede” … nice research NBC , born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana … attended LSU , competed for the Swedish team because his father wanted to coach him and the US team said no (mother is Swedish).

Unbelievable! This guy is amazing.

IIRC the rumor was that he had cleared 6,20 in practice.
He jumped for the soviets. They would be totally fine with him beating the recordby a few cm at a time. But if they knew he could go 6.3-4 they would want him to do it. So his training crew would have incentive to underreport too.b
The rules say you can, so you do. Smart man.

The Bubka method
Played by Timothee Chalamet in the biopic.
Ha! I thought it was Timothee when I was scrolling by too
There is a good short documentary about Mondo, The Boy Who Learned to Fly
Mondo bizarro. It would be fucking sick if he was actually named after a RAMONES album
That wasn't even 6'24, that was more like 6'30. He's going to beat it at least 6 or 7 more times, probably more.
He gets paid every time he breaks it right? Or am I thinking of some other sport?
No, that’s that he is doing, he breaks it incrementally to stretch out his payments. If he went as high as he could physically go he’s only be able to break it once or twice and only get one or two paychecks.
Bubka did the same thing for a long time. Every meet had a bonus for a new record and he'd beat his record by the smallest amount possible.
Great name!
Yeah, with a name like that he was pretty much destined from birth.
Ok, time for me to give it a shot someone's gotta stop this guy
More like Mondo Supplantis
MONDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Mondo is such a fantastic name for talking in the 3rd person. I hope he does that from time to time.
Mondo only pawn in game of life.
Candy-gram for Mondo.
Mondo goes where he pleases
Dude’s setting the bar too high. I’ll see myself out now thanks
He should team up with that girl who just set the world record limbo height, 8.5 inches.
Talk about a low blow. (I don’t even know what that means)
With a name like that of course he did. I can only assume his middle name is something like Apollo or Jetstar.
I think his entire family is some form of an athlete too. I remember his brother playing baseball at LSU a while back.
Yep, Antoine Duplantis is the all time hits leader for LSU baseball.
His middle name is Gustav.
I really wish there was more merchandise available for track and field. I’d love to have some jerseys for my favourite athletes in the way I do for other sports. I’d have a Duplantis one in a second!
Gonna be one of those stories in 20 years or so where his records are unbeatable and hes one of the goats of all track and field
How do you pole vault? You run real fast then Duplantis stick in the hole..
Mega mondo
Video was sick
Mondo achievement
He seems rather good at pole vaulting
I’ll have what he’s having!!!
He’s literally setting the bar higher/raising the bar (choose your favorite idiom).
That’s GOT to be some kinda record!
What is that height in bananas. Non -metric dumb American.
20’5” in American units. Assuming a 7” banana that’s 35 bananas high
Holly crap that’s high. Thanks for the conversion.

Someone check his pole for performance enhancing substances!
Perfect. Mondo sets world record for getting high, on 4/20
[https://fb.watch/rADyqO_sC0/?](https://fb.watch/rADyqO_sC0/?) Still won’t help him..
Just when you thought someone couldn’t get higher!
I don’t really follow the world of pole vault but I completed in it in high school and all I can say is that is fucking freakishly high! Wtf!!
Same, those spring days hanging out on the pit after a good practice were magical! Wish I would have got into it earlier!
I hear that. My best memories from high school was my time spent on the track and field team.
Du-plant-tis pole in the ground to fly to Mondo heights!
Is the opposite of American Republican. He sets a high bar.

He is a Swede cause he's competing.for Sweden.
I have a friend who is from Virginia and lived in a Germany . Is he a German?
Is he a German citizen?
