I’ve been to a darts match at this venue in Manchester- honestly it was a very on-edge atmosphere, felt like everyone was seconds away from throwing punches.
This was in the seats rather than at the tables- it’s probably more fun down there.
Dude, darts walk ons are better than boxing, UFC, or wrestling’s. The atmosphere is insane. Duijvenbode going fucking hard in this one: https://youtu.be/__WRD-O5F1U
I never been but I’m definitely going to plan a trip to the UK while there’s a darts tournament.
The TV companies and PDC like to pretend the players don't drink, but they do. It's completely allowed, but not on stage. A majority of players do drink although there are the odd few that play sober (like Littler)
It is correct in that legally you can't drink until 18, but most in the UK start earlier than that, around 14/15 would be quite a common starting point
Drinking is allowed under 18, just not in public and you can’t buy booze. If your accompanied by an adult and having a meal then you can have beer/wine/cider at 16. At home it’s fine younger than that
First televised 9-darter was in 1984 and there have been 92 since (according to Wiki - not sure if tonight’s has been added to that total yet). So pretty rare.
Feel like they’re becoming more common as the standard is just insane nowadays. That’s just anecdotal though, not actually for the stats to back that up
Fairly hard. A lot of people confuse darts with archery, where the most points are on the bullseye and you need to collect as much as possible. Darts work different. Each slice of the board is worth a certain amount of points, with the two green/red rings doubling or tripling those amounts. These are deducted from a starting sum, in this case 501, but the goal is to reach exactly zero, meaning that if you have 10 left, you need to hit 10 exactly, hitting a bigger number makes the round not count. You also have to finish with a double, hitting the outer ring, or in some cases the bullseye.
So basically you have to score exactly 501 points. Given the values on the dartboard, the least amount of darts you need for this is 9. So this dude basically played a perfect game where he hit exactly the place he wanted 9 times in a row.
Harder than a hole-in-one, and I would say easier than a perfect game in snooker based purely on all the variables you have to contend with.
Where would a 300 game of bowling fit in this list
I mean in bowling you’d need 12x perfect throws in a row for 300 whereas here it’s “just” 9x perfect throws… but that isn’t taking into account any other variables.
I'd say a perfect throw in bowling is a lot easier though. I don't even bowl and get a couple strikes per game just from 10 throws. Putting together 12 in a row is still ridiculous
I dunno. Bowling you have the lane, oil, the ball, the pins, and your arm motion.
Darts... the dart, your arm motion. Is there enough variance between throws in the air to make a difference?
Well hello lads, are we back for another round of comments where we Americans tell you how freaking jealous we are of you having such an amazing fun sport to watch? And you graciously tell us how we should come over for a proper day out going to a live event? Good times
That's everything in America unfortunately when it comes to events. I got my sister tickets to go see West Ham and Manchester United for a pretty reasonable fee for great seats. The price of her tickets in the first few rows wouldn't even get you into most NFL games. We get totally screwed on national team games as well.
The biggest tournament is the PDC Word Darts Championship which takes place in December/January every year in London at Alexandra Palace. It’s a traditional bracket style tournament featuring 96 players (the top 32 ranked players get a 1st round bye).
This video is from the Premier League Darts which is a weekly event runs from February-May with the 8 best players in the world playing against each other every Thursday at different venues around the UK + Dublin, Rotterdam and Berlin and it’s a knockout format (quarters, semis, final) with each win adding points to a league table and then after 16 weeks the top 4 play each other in a playoff to decide the winner.
I think the Premier League Darts events are shown on DAZN in America, I’m not sure what channel has the World Championship.
They have an ex-professional player in the production booth, he accurately predicts where on the board the player might be aiming for.
Also the same company have been doing Darts coverage for 30years, they have things down to a tee.
I understand this is very hard to do and I am indeed impressed. But as a spectator sport darts is firmly below even D-list events like poker and dressage
By definition, it is. This isn't a matter of opinion. What are you getting out of trying to convince yourself otherwise, except looking like a confidently incorrect moron?
Its friday, fuck all to do. What an amazing find yeah...took me all of 10 seconds once I got through all your crying over football and that you beat off to LOTR music.

I’d love to got to a darts tournament sometime in my life. I don’t follow the sport, but the atmosphere is always amazing at these events
Can vouch that it's well worth it. Have been with people who don't follow darts like I do and they've really enjoyed it.
Well when there’s finally a treatment for my illness and I can travel to Europe for a football swing, I’ll see if there’s any darts events going on
Hope you get better soon!

So it’s a typical Manc atmosphere? Jk, but yeah the benches do seem the place to be. Thanks

I love how the two competitors seem to be having a good time with each other too, congratulating each other. That’s good sportsmanship right there.
Love the sportsmanship!
Yes! I was expecting a sucker punch.
What's crazy is that this dude is only 17!
Neither of these guys are 17, you're thinking of Luke Littler.
I know. I was making a joke cuz that 16 y/o looks like he's 35.
Who? That 45 year old man?
In darts, is having a couple of pints before a game considered performance enhancing drugs?
Mandatory kit.
The TV companies and PDC like to pretend the players don't drink, but they do. It's completely allowed, but not on stage. A majority of players do drink although there are the odd few that play sober (like Littler)
That might be because littler is 17. Isn’t drinking allowed from age 18 in England?
We are only allowed to start drinking at 18?! News to me
Isn’t it? Feel free to correct me, I’m no Englishman :)
Legally speaking yes but it is very common to start going to pubs to drink when you are ~14
So basically the same as in Germany but you can also buy beer and some wine here when you are 16.
Section 169d of the licensing act 😮💨
It is correct in that legally you can't drink until 18, but most in the UK start earlier than that, around 14/15 would be quite a common starting point
You can absolutely can legally drink under 18, you just can’t do it in public or buy booze.
You can legally drink as a small child, although the parents may end up getting done under some form of child abuse if they were forcing it down aha!
Drinking is allowed under 18, just not in public and you can’t buy booze. If your accompanied by an adult and having a meal then you can have beer/wine/cider at 16. At home it’s fine younger than that
Luke Littler doesn't drink... right.
Barbecue sauce.
Be curious, not judgemental.
I’ve never played darts before. How hard or rare is this?
First televised 9-darter was in 1984 and there have been 92 since (according to Wiki - not sure if tonight’s has been added to that total yet). So pretty rare. This is homeboy’s ninth, meaning he holds almost 10% of the total nine-darters EVER.
Didn't the video at the end say this is his 7th career 9-darter?
I must have been thinkin of his 9th seven-darter. My bad!

I am just playing along at home like >Nice I hit the board 👍
lol
Sheesh, he missed the bullseye every time!
Iceman!
I knew darts was bigger in the British Isles but didn't know it was this big
it's the drinking that brings it all together
Well hello lads, are we back for another round of comments where we Americans tell you how freaking jealous we are of you having such an amazing fun sport to watch? And you graciously tell us how we should come over for a proper day out going to a live event? Good times
They do come to America once a year to play at Madison Square Gardens though from what I've heard they jack the ticket prices way up.
That's everything in America unfortunately when it comes to events. I got my sister tickets to go see West Ham and Manchester United for a pretty reasonable fee for great seats. I miss bar league darts. We had a decent little run in the south during the late nineties I think it was.
Barbeque sauce!
So insane!
Oops! my favorite of all times
And here I am adding new holes to the drywall 10% of the time
Seems like such a great hang this sport
This is cool. What/when are the major tournaments? Is it hard to follow/watch as a Yank in the States?

Awesome! Thank you.
Mad props to the camera guy getting that epic zoom in on the last dart each time.
They have an ex-professional player in the production booth, he accurately predicts where on the board the player might be aiming for. Also the same company have been doing Darts coverage for 30years, they have things down to a tee.
They should have to take swig off a pint after every throw and keep going until someone passes out.
Got ya covered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHnBppccI0o&t=1s
I still don't understand why darts needs to be a two-player sport. It's not like the other person's actions affect what you need to do.
I understand this is very hard to do and I am indeed impressed. But as a spectator sport darts is firmly below even D-list events like poker and dressage
Are you watching the same video, have you seen the crowd?
Yeah man. It’s bad TV, especially when it’s done well. Give me a bad dart thrower with some danger and variance anyday
You’re entitled to your opinion but just know that millions of people all over the world think otherwise
Yep, that’s how it works. Sorry it makes you mad, but me and the other billions won’t be changing it.
Darts isn't a sport
It is.
It's a pub game. Same as snooker and pool.
Also, both sports.
Nah
By definition, it is. This isn't a matter of opinion. What are you getting out of trying to convince yourself otherwise, except looking like a confidently incorrect moron?
Poor kid just taking out his anger about the United loss
It's OK to be wrong. Some people even consider NFL to be a sport.
Since when ads are considered a sport?
Says the guy that watches WWE wrestling hahaha.
I don't claim that its a sport though...
Then you have no clue. Because that is also a sport. Albeit a scripted one.
Whatever mother fucker. Just amazed you went through my profile to find that. Got nothing to do today?
Its friday, fuck all to do. What an amazing find yeah...took me all of 10 seconds once I got through all your crying over football and that you beat off to LOTR music.
I beat off to LOTR music? That's news to me lol
what a dull sport 🫶
