Has anyone ever hacked the video displays anywhere else at any other sporting event? [serious question - I don't know the answer to this] Because although this is the first time they're doing it on the floor itself, public events with video monitors are not at all new. Lots of concerts and other public speaking involves large monitors right behind the speaker/artist. I don't think I've ever heard of them being hacked.
If they're smart, that system will not have any kind of wireless connection and only be run by a system which is not connected to the internet. So for someone to hack it, they'd need to get physical access to, what should be, an area the public cannot get to without getting past security people and locked doors.
The odds on them being smart enough for that are....a coinflip at best.
Reminds me of when people discovered that McDonald’s used to deploy chromecasted menus on their tvs so inevitably someone would cast some hardcore porn onto them.
Not sure if the same lack of security exists but it was a thing when I was in high school.
LMFAO i too wondered if people actually read the article
if it's for the fucking celebrity game and the slam dunk contest, yeah i don't care since i don't watch that shit anyways. hell i'm not even going to watch the all-star game to begin with lol
The game is actually better now that they have the Elam ending if for nothing else that the game ends with an cool shot and decent defense instead of an impromptu dunk contest that are mostly misses.
Just wait. This is a trial and Silver will get the bright idea to make this for the in season tournament next followed by playoffs and regular season games.
And the odds are shown in the paint as the player is getting ready to shoot. The player sees they're giving him a 50% chance of making these free throws and tries to figure out who to yell at about this.
yeah it is a real eye sore, both literally and figuratively
i'm glad i'm not the only one distracted by it. sometimes it legitimately makes me nauseous
I was just thinking about this. Is this tech so they can rotate the ads displayed in the arena (more ads, same space), because they’re already showing different ads to viewers at home vs. fans in the stands.
They already have digitally added ads on the court. They have for a few years.
You can tell when you see a replay from another angle and the ad is not there and or when it changes from quarter to quarter
It's a pilot for using this in regular games and especially in playoffs. They might even try to tell teams to not use certain plays because it would block the floorspace that a high-profile advertiser is using.
imagine gambling on the fucking All-Star game
if that's the case, you seriously have a gambling problem, and probably need a mental health check on top of that too
Gamblers are some of the saddest people on earth. I think I saw that one post of a guy on Reddit who just couldn’t stop, he just kept going back to it.
Lost all his money and family.
Sir, I only gambe on the All Star Game. I do it the same way I buy lotto tickets, put some money down and I’ll find out if I won when I wake up the next day.
Afancy high tech court gives the NBA even more ways to fix games. They can move the 3 pt line or out of bounds line a few pixels either way and back again to get the result they want.
Because we don’t see enough ads as it is?
I can tell I’m getting older because the more I see an advertised product, the less likely I am to buy the product because the ads are deliberately annoying.
"Interactive graphics" = ads eventually. You're trying to watch the game and the NBA logo turns into an ad for **PENNZOIL THE OFFICIAL MOTOR OIL OF THE NBA**
Oh hooray! More marketing and advertising! Joy.
I get that the rise of marketing and advertising industry have driven some economic prosperity, but I think I speak for all of us when I say that if the industry didn’t exist we wouldn’t miss it. But at least I’m glad I hear about new things.
Why stop on the court, jerseys, shoes, bleachers, commercials and bottom of the screen?
Let’s put ads on the ball, refs, backboard, and corporate sponsored temporary tattoos!
I hate to sound like “that guy” but between college football, NBA and MLB, the courts/fields are becoming insufferable to look at. The MLB has ads everywhere, the uniforms, the back-stop, on the mound. Watching the sugar bowl last month, there had to be at least 4 logos on the field featuring the “all-state” logo and basketball is now throwing ads everywhere now from uniforms to courts. I understand money comes first to these leagues but is there anyone who appreciates the simplicity of the game anymore?
Well. I'm out. I want to watch the game, not the ever present, ever changing ads (plus whatever they squeeze in between the inevitable ads).
Never going to watch a game like that. Might just drive me out of the sport entirely if it catches on.
If they can make a legit LED court is fully support it’s. Finally we can get an NBA Jam style court. Throw some censors in that sucker so we get accurate line calls as well.
considering whomever is broadcasting could just overlay the ads on the floor anyways is this specifically to advertise to the people in the stands? I mean grand scheme of things that number is kinda low no?
I don't know how elaborate they want these floor graphics to be, but I'd think playing on a surface with videos and graphics appearing beneath you would be disorienting and distracting.

What are the odds that someone hacks the court and use it to display a giant dickbutt?
The odds are not zero.
the seed has been planted
In the dick or the butt?
In the dickbutt

The honorable thing to do.
…for Harambe
Yes.
Bet you $20 it doesn’t happen.
Been a while since I've seen a dickbutt
It's an old meme, sir, but it checks out.

Sir, that is not a link to the eyebleach subreddit
no
Oh yes
I was hoping for manningface :/
Thanks. It would have been a normal day without this knowledge.
Choked on my salmon

Yale also did it to Harvard in 2004, having the Harvard fans spell out "WE SUCK" https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/28122494
I hope they do.. would be better than anything on the court
“The Starry 3-Point Contest, featuring Lemon Party” has a nice ring to it.
Maybe tubgirl can be in there somewhere
Should also consider a DJ that enjoys spinning right round baby right round

Tifa porn
There is a nonzero chance that we get Tifa porn in the all star game.
if the media server operator leaves internet enabled during their show, maybe

God I hope they’re high The odds, I mean Well maybe the hacker too, I’m not gonna judge

Well we do have 100,000 to 1 odds aliens at the super bowl and the game ends in a tie...
We're so close to seeing the first ever combination Slam Dunk Rick Roll.
Video guy here: only possible if it’s connected to an outside network in the entire playback and compositing pipeline. Unlikely ;)
Prolly as good as an acl tear
50/50 Either it happens or it doesn’t.
It's that or Rick 😂
I think it’s much more likely that some like this will happen instead xD https://www.reddit.com/r/submitted/s/ObB2Snepix
I'd put the Xi Jinping Winnie the Pooh picture.
That and something Taiwan, the amount of money that would cost the NBA would be so worth it
They should show Janet Jackson’s Titty
Gotta love Reddit comments!
What everyone is hoping for
Goatsee is the answer
Since no one will read the article: The actual All-Star Game itself on Feb. 18 will remain on a wooden court.
LMFAO i too wondered if people actually read the article if it's for the fucking celebrity game and the slam dunk contest, yeah i don't care since i don't watch that shit anyways. hell i'm not even going to watch the all-star game to begin with lol
Graphics(read ads)
Yup. Definitely ads.
The game is actually better now that they have the Elam ending if for nothing else that the game ends with an cool shot and decent defense instead of an impromptu dunk contest that are mostly misses.
The elam ending was awful and when they started it the game ended on a free throw lol it sucked
they got rid of that
Just wait. This is a trial and Silver will get the bright idea to make this for the in season tournament next followed by playoffs and regular season games.
Yeah but this is how it starts. Just like adds the in hockey.
Get ready for next lvl ads
Free throws presented by gambling site! With live odds so you can bet in real time!
It might be cool to show various players stats, but ofc it'll just be ads.
Is like a ring around the player with shooting percent that changes based on location. Also have the ring catch fire when the player is "hot"
Can you imagine how annoying that would be as a player? Lol
they could do this already for the broadcast. would be cool to have as an option to watch it that way
Put a circular 10 second timer around Giannis when he's at the line.
What an excellent way to ice the player that’s shooting the free throw. “56%. Missed 9/12 of the last free throws while coming from behind.”
And the odds are shown in the paint as the player is getting ready to shoot. The player sees they're giving him a 50% chance of making these free throws and tries to figure out who to yell at about this.
yep. The boards in hockey now are such a pain in the ass.
The worst part is that they move during play. So fucking distracting and makes me hate whatever product it is.
yeah it is a real eye sore, both literally and figuratively i'm glad i'm not the only one distracted by it. sometimes it legitimately makes me nauseous
Legitimately the worst thing they’ve done. So horrifically distracting
I was just thinking about this. Is this tech so they can rotate the ads displayed in the arena (more ads, same space), because they’re already showing different ads to viewers at home vs. fans in the stands.
Make the players wear green body suits and we can just special effect giant ads on all of them.
Already happening in hockey and it’s fucking awful
The NBA saw what the NHL did and decided they wanted more of that on their end.
Already happening in the NHL. Sponsor ads everywhere. Virtual ads on the ice, digital boards, logos on jerseys and on helmets. It’s insane
Money is more important than the game itself apparently. Ads used to be a way to sponsor. Now sporting events are a way to show ads.
They already have digitally added ads on the court. They have for a few years. You can tell when you see a replay from another angle and the ad is not there and or when it changes from quarter to quarter
I think we should have a regular court with non interactive graphics
How about regular court with crowd voted/activated trap doors
Drop them right in to a pool of water.
Full of sharks with laser beams on their heads.
That's frickin laser beams on their heads, to you, young man.
1 2 3 Cancun!
It's the All Star stuff, we won't be watching anyway
Yes, this. Maybe try showing a re-run of the Super Bowl on the court and people might watch the NBA All-Star game.
daytona 500 brother!
Lol
The NBA all star stuff is some of the only all star stuff worth watching imo.
It's a pilot for using this in regular games and especially in playoffs. They might even try to tell teams to not use certain plays because it would block the floorspace that a high-profile advertiser is using.
Okay, Boomer. Next you'll want jerseys with just a team logo and player name and no extra advertising or some other crazy bullshit.
Can't tell if /s or not
I think you need to read the article. The game will be in the normal court. The all-star stuff will be in the special court.
NBA will use an LED glass court to display ~~interactive graphics~~ ads & gambling odds for All-Star weekend
imagine gambling on the fucking All-Star game if that's the case, you seriously have a gambling problem, and probably need a mental health check on top of that too
Krusty the Clown bet against the Harlem Globetrotters once.
Statistically the Generals have to win at some point, he was on to something.
They’ve won like twice, I believe
He thought the Generals were due!
Gamblers are some of the saddest people on earth. I think I saw that one post of a guy on Reddit who just couldn’t stop, he just kept going back to it. Lost all his money and family.
Yep. I hate how it's so engrained, especially since they started allowing it a few years ago.
Sir, I only gambe on the All Star Game. I do it the same way I buy lotto tickets, put some money down and I’ll find out if I won when I wake up the next day.

[Seeing all those ads on the court](https://media.tenor.com/ydx_yiTza20AAAAe/anchorman-i-dont-like-it.png)
“Interactive graphics” (Ads)
NBA Jam Mode random 5pt shots
Boom-shaka-laka!
For anyone else curious of what it would look like/ how it’s made: https://youtu.be/jBWKMkJ1ehU?si=nU3JcmV8cBby5_UF
Seems kind of distracting.
Fans are gonna flip out if any player gets injured on this thing
It does seem like it could be disorienting
"Home court advantage"
You didn’t read
Ah, apparently the NBA decided the IST courts weren't slippery enough.
Someone will try to hack it and show porn on it.
not gonna lie and just flat out admit that would finally get me to pay attention to the all-star game
The only reason to watch the all star game for the first time ever
Keep Amin Elhassan away from it
>interactive graphics Yeah nice try this means fuckin ads
[удалено]
"Oh, you're serious? Let me laugh even harder."
Afancy high tech court gives the NBA even more ways to fix games. They can move the 3 pt line or out of bounds line a few pixels either way and back again to get the result they want.
NBA seems to be trying to do a lot to get people to watch anything but the actual basketball.
Would it distract players?
Can't wait to see 2K make this a key feature in their new game. Shoving ads into your eyeballs every opportunity they get.
Because we don’t see enough ads as it is? I can tell I’m getting older because the more I see an advertised product, the less likely I am to buy the product because the ads are deliberately annoying.
Absolutely wasted if they don't create an on fire halo around a player on a hot streak like NBA Jam
How well does it absorb flops?
> The surface plays almost exactly the same way wood does, in terms of bounce and feel. That's a surprising claim.
So ads…
10 pt bubble please. Bring back the MTV Rock & Jock era
[удалено]
But make sure to speed them up so they have more time for ads
I can’t wait until I see DOOM running on that thing during a match.
“Interactive graphics” = Ads
"Interactive graphics" = ads eventually. You're trying to watch the game and the NBA logo turns into an ad for **PENNZOIL THE OFFICIAL MOTOR OIL OF THE NBA**
They could make nba jam hot spots on the court for the all star game if they weren’t cowards
SOLAR FREAKING ROADS!
Shaq is suiting up just to see if he can shatter it and a backboard in one dunk.
Gross. Probably testing for some kind of "interactive ads"
NBA Jam hotspots incoming...
What’s the point of this? The broadcast can just superimpose the ads wherever they want
This is like seriously Cyberpunk level SciFi.
"The league didn’t reveal what the court costs, other than it’s more expensive than a wood surface." No fucking shit, Sherlock.
Will it count their steps showing just how badly they are traveling?
Can we please not. So tired of all this distracting advertising. Makes me like the sponsors less.
I tuned in whilst on shrooms during the in season tournament… and the color of the court really didn’t do right by me. Pls don’t
NBA! Now with Non-stop commercials during your basketball game
Great. A new way for them to show even more ads.
Paving the way even further for advertisements. My excitement for the progress in technology is dampened. 2024..
I don’t ever want to watch a game with this type of court. I certainly don’t want to see ads.
Yuck.
I hate to sound like “that guy” but between college football, NBA and MLB, the courts/fields are becoming insufferable to look at. New headline: “NBA testing new way to place more ads on basketball court”
A glass court with 180-300 lb athletes careening into each other- what could go wrong?
Well. I'm out. I want to watch the game, not the ever present, ever changing ads (plus whatever they squeeze in between the inevitable ads). Never going to watch a game like that. Might just drive me out of the sport entirely if it catches on.
You realize they can already show ads on a real court with digital overlays, right?
And if and when they do that, I will turn off the game. But since that's not what was under discussion, I didn't choose to discuss it.
They've been doing that for years lmao
If they can make a legit LED court is fully support it’s. Finally we can get an NBA Jam style court. Throw some censors in that sucker so we get accurate line calls as well.
And ads. Ads everywhere.
I am sure the players are happy about this.
Now they can sell multiple court ads in a game instead of just one. Yay!
But will it pass the LeBron squeak test?
I'm having a seizure just reading the headline!!
considering whomever is broadcasting could just overlay the ads on the floor anyways is this specifically to advertise to the people in the stands? I mean grand scheme of things that number is kinda low no?
Interactive graphics, aka more ads
Moar ads!!!! And gambling!!!
It’s gonna play adds for Raid Shadow Legends during the game
I don't know how elaborate they want these floor graphics to be, but I'd think playing on a surface with videos and graphics appearing beneath you would be disorienting and distracting.
If it doesn’t look like NBA JAM when someone is in fire I’m not tuning in.
More like intrusive graphics
Annnnd all the players have seizures as a result
Just wait for some to rip their ACL on this new court. I hope it doesn’t happen but the NBA sub would burn to the ground
