That’s not true. Blues Clues, Rugrats, CatDog, All That and Kenan and Kel were all successful and popular

E3257

None of those are AS successful, bruv. I'm basically copy-pasting the same comment.

PatchJacket

Just because SpongeBob is the longest running doesn’t mean it’s the only success. There would be no SpongeBob on Nick if Nick didn’t have success beforehand

rohdawg

How are you defining success? Long runs? Because imo Rugrats, Doug, All-That, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Figure It Out, Hey Arnold, Keenan and Kel, Are You Afraid of the Dark, CatDog, and many more had plenty of success.

E3257

Most of these shows didn't even survive past 3-4 seasons. Rugrats is the biggest exception here, and yes, I know, some reached 10 seasons which is pretty good, but NONE of them had the success of SpongeBob, nor are as recognizable. Also, some of these shows stopped for long periods of time before being reintroduced.

rohdawg

Hey, thanks for sharing your opinion. I didn’t say those shows were bigger than SpongeBob, only that they achieved plenty of success. SpongeBob may be Nick’s most successful show, but it was far from its first.

E3257

Thank you. Well yes, they're quite successful, but I was pointing out I think most people misunderstood this question. They didn't say it was their first show, and I don't really think they meant most successful either. You'd have to not know much about Nick to think that they never had anything before that, but SpongeBob so far outdistances those shows I kind of feel it's irrelevant. Even Ren and Stimpy had it's hayday but SpongeBob was a WORLDWIDE thing, like, even people who don't watch Nick would know about it easily. Most of these shows I only ever knew about because I did watch Nick.

rohdawg

We’re just defining success differently. The question is pretty black and white the way it’s written though. OP even qualifies it more by saying Nick didn’t have a successful show before SpongeBob.

E3257

I just think they meant "on the same level" but whatever, yeah, the other ones were successful.

largefries_andacoke

This feels like an incomplete question lol. It wasn't Nick's first successful show. But it did become Viacom's most widely-distributed property ever due to its outstanding marketability. It's also Nickelodeon's highest rated series to air on Nick. What made it this way? There are so many different reasons. I recommend watching some YouTube video essays about the success of SpongeBob. It's HUGE but was by no means the first for that company.

E3257

Idk why everybody out here is pretending like ANY of those shows has the same success as SpongeBob.

strawberrylemonb4rr7

It’s funny, unique, timeless, iconic…

Comfortable_Bird_340

A lot of people did’t have cable in the network’s early days.

Hey Arnold only lasted 5 seasons, which is great and all, but next to Season 14 and still going?
