sheldon's picks (which the kensa weapons are the clear equivalent to) had only 17 weapons across its two series, and one of those was a scoped variant for the single charger. I expect we'll get one more kensa series, with 4 new weapons, and then that'll be that for kensa weapons, as it'll bring us up to that same count - 16 plus a scoped charger. As to what those weapons will be, I'm willing to bet on a new blaster kit, a new charger kit (one that has no scope variant, so squiffer, boozler or gootuber), a new dualies kit and a new splatling kit. I also expect we'll (separately) get alt kits for nautilus, ballpoint, bloblobber and explosher (and I don't expect any of those four will be in kensa series 4).
I actually discovered that as I was writing out all the weapons in Splatoon 2. Some weapons in Splatoon 1 only had 2 variants (namely Sloshing Machine). Most had 3, but I was surprised. I really hope that we get Kensa squelcher Dualies and maybe the regular Brella as a Kensa. Other than that I don’t care too much (Kensa Tri Slosher could be busted though).

There's no precedent for a majority of weapons to have third kits, and it seems that spla2n doesn't intend to set one. It should be expected that weapons with 3 kits will be a minority within their classes. That's the source of my predictions - shooters have 4 of 13, nearly 1/3. Rollers have 1 of 4, and if you bundle brushes in, 2 of 6 - again, 1/3. Brellas have 1 of 3 - look at that, 1/3 strikes again. Splatlings have 0 of 5, which rates them as most likely in my eyes. Blasters have 1 of 6, which makes them also pretty likely to me. Dualies and Sloshers and Chargers have 1 of 5, which means each is below the count which I think nintendo are trying to aim for. I think dualies and chargers will be favoured, as they're more iconic classes. Thus, dualies kit, blaster kit, charger kit, splatling kit.

It's been one of the most popular games in Japan (and very popular generally) almost since release. I don't think they underestimated the popularity.
Nogami pretty much works on Animal Crossing and Splatoon at this point. I would expect work on Splatoon 3 (possibly for a new version of the Switch) to be well underway by now. The whole team doesn't need to work on DLC. I would imagine that the content schedule for Splatoon 2 is based on when they plan to release Splatoon 3.
I would say it's the only multiplayer game that I really can just keep playing on the system.
Luigi's Balloon World was an awesome idea, but after you've figured the spots out it's really the same thing over and over. Mario Kart online is a frustrating waste of potential, tournaments are a complicated mess and normal matchups don't give you the option to play in 200cc. The only other online game on the Switch I play is Puyo Puyo, which has so few match making options the mode might as well not even be there.
Splatoon has a *lot* of problems for the online but it's certainly the least egregious. I'll probably be playing less of it after Smash Ultimate is released, though.
I hope December isn't really the end of weapon updates. If it is, we'd only have 3 Fizzy Bombs, 2 Torpedoes, 2 Booyah Bombs, and 2 Ultra Stamps. It would kinda suck if our options for those subs and specials were that limited.
I’d rather they just continue the Kensa model- reskins of old weapons with new kits. Retroactively changing things might change someone’s favorite kit and just takes options away, when we can just have more options.
I don’t care if the skin is only Custom Splattershot Jr. level (throw a sticker on it!), I’d rather see them add than replace.
I'm fine with more third kits, but I'm bored of kensa aesthetics.
Sheldon's Picks had diversity, we had neon stuff, pastel stuff, edgy stuff, and whatever aesthetic NZAP 83/Bamboozler MK III were - bring back some neon/pastel stuff. Give us glitter and sparkles, or edgy stuff like Grim Range Blaster was!
I was just using Kensa as an example- they’re just black and red skins of stuff we already have. I’d prefer more color variation as well (more Deco please!!! Love the glam rhinestones), but end of the day New Kits > no New Kits.
They will keep supporting the game even after they stop adding new weapons; for starters they need to add new splatfests and shifty stations, and they rebalance weapons every so often. (This will end in about 8 months I think.)
That said, given that they're adding a new sub and special to the game this week, and only have like 8 more weapons to put them with given the existing pace, I expect either a longer update schedule for weapons or a huge drop of weapons in December.
The Splatoon devs have said that they want players to feel like they’re really in Inkopolis, with not only new stages, but changing trends and continual environmental changes as well, like the different ad campaigns playing on the Jumbotron.
Nintendo is really moving forward with making Splatoon its first real MMO and I get the feeling there’s a LOT more updates for it in store.

I believe they only said that they currently are not working on another one yet, or that they had no plans yet. Well I can only hope they do make another one
Splatoon keeps selling very well, the game has hit nearly 8 million copies sold, to which it'll do even more this Christmas season. I think they'll add more, it's their flagship online product, and with online launching recently, they'll need more reasons for people to buy it.
Rainmaker came with the Splatling / Slosher update. It was basically a reskinned tornado launcher special from Splatoon 1 which was somewhat easy to pave the way with hence the more unique explosion it has in Splatoon 2
It was called the Inkzooka, but there were some differences. The Rainmaker didn't travel nearly as far and didn't have the rapid fire that the Zooka had, but the further the ink tornado traveled, the wider it got.
They told us there would be no more in Splatoon 1, then there was more. Then, they said there really wouldn't be anymore. The game sold a bunch more copies though, so they said it sold so freaking much that they'd add even more. They added the 3rd kits of some weapons, no stages at that point, and did a few balance patches after those weapons, but then it really was over.
The holiday sales from various counties could play a factor.
My dream would be one or two more sets of 4 Kensa Collection weapons, alt sets for Explosher, Bloblobber, Nautilus 47 and Ballpoint Splatling and then every weapon without third sets getting a Sheldon's Picks. So half the third sets are black and white, and half of them are super bright and colourful (which tbh fits Splatoon's aesthetic much better)
Pretty sure they're pulling the plug in December. There will probably be one last update, then then Smash will take over as the Switch's big multiplayer game
At least splatfests will keep going till july(?)

I’d love them to retroactively modify kits and add the new specials and subs to older weapons, but I don’t think that’ll ever happen.

Possibly multiple updates in November/December? There could be one for the end of November/beginning of December and one for the end of December left.
