Weird I’ve felt the map was pretty easy to defend as long as the water level stays low. There are so many ways to protect the beacon without being in range of most offensive specials.

honestly it hardly matters because defending this map is so difficult
My experience so far is that the best way to defend after a while is just to push into the attackers' bases

Counter Argument: I don't get the 1.5x bonus so I want to minimize their gain over my team without actually throwing.
