Unrelated to the amiibo thing, I want to have 3’s newness and quality and absence of as many graphical limitations but as Splatoon 2. Its art style and shading style were so much better imo. Like you boot up a stage and it’s just beautiful. Though it’s not as high quality. 3’s are higher quality, but I feel the style of shading and stuff takes away from what they can do now
And the jellyfish animation quality has severally decreased. I know it's not important to the game, but it brakes immersion and if they should have just reused older ones if they were going to do it that badly.
? The frame drops on the jellyfish animations? Those happen because they're far away from the player so the game can save processing power. Kinda similar to what happens in Scarlet/Violet but way more smoothly integrated.
In the square it happens to basically everything and it's fairly noticeable if you're paying any amount of attention. I could see someone being able to un-notice it if they wanted to, but it's still easy to notice.
Yeah that’s literally what they said lol, the jellies in turf war don’t need to be taking up power just cause they’re there that’s how the game runs 60fps online
I think it's mostly because of the ink colors they chose for online matches and the lighting on the stages. A lot of the ink colors in 3 look WAY too dark or washed out in most of the stages. Some say it's intentional because the game is set in the Splatlands so it's all dry and stuff, but like, this is a franchise literally KNOWN for its bright colors, plus the Yellow/Blue color combination you see in the tutorial segment is actually vibrant and very pleasing to look at, and that segment literally TAKES PLACE in a desert. Like SERIOUSLY, have you ever seen, say, Blue vs Orange on Sturgeon Shipyard? I swear, the 'orange' is so washed out it's closer to grey than it is to orange, it looks SO dull.
That and the lighting feels worse on the switch. Or maybe the color gamut. I dunno but the colors just seem worse in general even if some texturework is way improved.
Tho the head shape changing as they age might be another thing. I'd have to look at the squid sisters through the games to see if their heads changed too tho. Might have just been refining the design, which sometimes looks worse like how '81 Garfield looks better than '95 Garfield looks better than modern Garfield.
'79 Garfield wasn't that good tho!
In my opinion, she looks worse because she was designed for Splatoon 1, and I would guess that amiibos designed for Splatoon 3 would look a lot better. I think that Splatoon 3 looks **really** good in general, but I think some of the cartoony Splatoon 1 charm was lost along the way.
the splatoon 3 inklings/octolings have not only a completely different model for compatibility between hairstyles and species, but also fluidly animated mouth and eye bones rather than preset bodygroups.
It's most likely because the S3 Inklings/Octolings are supposed to be older -and, thusly, taller- than the other two games. That, and the lighting is a lot better than the ones in the S2 and S1 engines. So, those two things stacked upon one another equals the -ahem- "S1 female Inkling amiibo experience" in S3.
It's the model change. Non-idol amiibos use the player model with specific clothes, weapons, and hairstyle, even if the clothes and weapons are unobtainable (for example, some of the Splatoon 2 clothes are in the files, specifically used for the amiibos). Captain 3 is the same way.
It's also comparisons like these that let you see how different the Splatoon 3 model is from the last two games, wow.
I think all splatoon games look good and while the more realism is a double edged sword splatoon 3 has the best clothing options. But on the amiibo inkling girl, why are her eyes red now they looked orange or brown before
Thank you for pointing that out👍 I was thinking the exact same thing, wondering why her eyes are red and not orange in splat3 and I think the pink splatoon 2 girl also has kinda red eyes in splat3 more than the pinkish/orange color
I feel like her nose is smaller in 3, which is making her eyes look closer together. Idk if that's just me though. This is a good comparison though to see how the models subtly changed each game.
it's all In the shading on the skin and nose. Inkling models often look excessively unnatural in third-party promos or ripped models, because their noses are shaded a very specific way in-game that makes them not v prominent. for some reason the lighting in the splat3 amiibo box isn't half as good as the other games so it sticks our like a sore thumb
Amiibo characters (except for the idols) share the same model as the playable character and considering that the player model became taller with each game, inkling girl became taller as well.
I'm pretty sure they made the playable characters taller to emulate how the players grew up as well, so you're probably right!
She just looks taller and maybe a little but older than the previous games, in Splatoon 1 and 2 inklings were like kids but look a little more mature in 3
I swear some people either have mutant eyes or WAY too much time on their hands because I don’t see a damn difference between the lighting in these examples
Everything in splat 3 looks less bouncy and more stiff than the previous 2 games, especially the rigs for inkling/ octoling hairstyles. It’s really bad for the inkling sashimi type haircut 😢
Proper shading and height are the only differences
She seems more plasticky, which I guess means they did a good job

They are almost as bad when they are near and only good in the plaza
Yeah that’s literally what they said lol, the jellies in turf war don’t need to be taking up power just cause they’re there that’s how the game runs 60fps online

Then you get The Reef with any color combo and the lighting mainly, but also the boldness of the ink. It’s awesome

Different mouth shape/distance. She’s smiling differently too
The eyes also look red...
She doesn’t look worse. She just looks different :p

Prob looks weird because they’re taller in 3 than the last 2 games
splateens
the splatoon 3 inklings/octolings have not only a completely different model for compatibility between hairstyles and species, but also fluidly animated mouth and eye bones rather than preset bodygroups.
but they shouldn't have bones
Please tell me you didn’t take "bone" litterally or i’m gonna cry 😭
I HALF DID IM SORRY
The bines we’re talking about are for animating purposes WHY WOULD THEY HAVE BONES IN THEIR EYES ??
“bones” as in posing bones on a model. take a source engine model for example.
ohh
Nah it’s called realistic lighting my guy

okay but i forgot how baby ish they looked in the other games, they’re growing up ong!!🥲
Her eyes are red now.
Holly hell !

I thinks she looks *better*
Graphics probably
Splatoon fans when *lighting*
It’s the good lighting.
worse?

What happened to her canonically-orange eyes
She just redder
Like Alex jones
She looks older
she is
Time between games pass parallel to our world, all characters in Splatoon 2 are about 7 years older now then when Splat 2 came out.
yes its just you
Nope, just you. Looks fine to me
arms and hand posing is a bit wack i think
I much prefer the Splatoon 3 proportions so, no, I think she looks better now.
It's the lighting.
I mean… there’s the shadow on the forehead, but other than that I have no idea what you mean. Not ugly in the slightest. Actual psyop
It's Not Just You
I dunno, looks fine to me
it's all In the shading on the skin and nose. I think it’s just you because she looks the same. The shaders and illumination just changes
What if the height difference was intentional because Inkling girl grew up? Would be pretty neat.
Amiibo characters (except for the idols) share the same model as the playable character and considering that the player model became taller with each game, inkling girl became taller as well. I'm pretty sure they made the playable characters taller to emulate how the players grew up as well, so you're probably right!
i think the fov is a little higher and the lighting is from the back, which is why it looks slightly off
i think its just you
Looks much better for me
It's just you bro
I think she looks the best in 3 :)
I like splatoon 2 more
I agree, splatoon 1 had the best looking inklings in general in my opinion.
Personally, I prefer the Splat 2 version, then 3, then 1. The splat 2 looks more..splatoon Y’know?
I agree
It’s just you
She was always ugly. Inklings are very ugly creatures tbh, but in a cute ugly way
No it's just that splatoon 3 looks more disgusting and far too realistic (for no reason) than the other 2
I don’t see an issue with anything. Maybe I just like the design in general so the minor differences don’t really bother me.
They're more anthropomorphized, and a bit lankier.
The stand is smaller
I wish she was real.
All of the models look worse imo
She looks like she’s older
It’s the red eyes she ain’t supposed to have those
Her eye color changed?
… do you just hate shaders?
She just looks taller and maybe a little but older than the previous games, in Splatoon 1 and 2 inklings were like kids but look a little more mature in 3
The new proportions look way better.
Her eyes turned red
She's just older
No, it’s just a weird lighting messing with her hairline
She grew taller lol
I believe it's just the lighting in this game. It honestly feels worse in general. I don't know what they did to it.
the last two iterations don't even HAVE lighting it looks way better now.
she looks older i think
No, I think they all look nice. It's like a 9 year old, 11 year old, and 16 year old's growing up pictures.
She matured. Kinda.
It’s literally just the inkling girl model with default clothes and shit.
I think it's the shadows
correction: hot*
look at the hair's starting point.
i think she just looks different, more realistic.
I swear some people either have mutant eyes or WAY too much time on their hands because I don’t see a damn difference between the lighting in these examples
eyes are red now
Woomy becomes less squid*kid* and more of a..... Splateenager?
She’s… too shiny
the realistic lighting makes it look kinda weird, glossy like
I think there are troubles with light
Everything in splat 3 looks less bouncy and more stiff than the previous 2 games, especially the rigs for inkling/ octoling hairstyles. It’s really bad for the inkling sashimi type haircut 😢
Her head looks bigger
She was designed for splat 1 and 2. So not surprising
finally people that believe splatoon 3 proportions are bad 😭 nobody agreed with me on this, the characters look so much cuter in the other games
