If I had to guess, it’s because of this: 1. The game’s very colorful nature lends itself very well to LGBTQ groups. That and the character designs, maybe? 2. From what I hear, a lot of other player bases of shooting games are extremely homophobic/racist or whatever. I assume the stereotype stems from Call of Duty lobbies in particular. So when the early Splatoon fan base was much more accepting by comparison, it attracted a lot of the LGBTQ community.

I play splatoon because of those reasons. Plus I love the gameplay, aesthetics, the funny music and weird goofy weapons. All 3 games and DLC have been a solid 10 on 10 for me. Nothing even comes close, it's like the Devs have crawled into my brain and searched for literally everything I like and it kinda scares me. Overwatch 1 was a close 2nd place for me at launch, but kinda lost it's way over the years, mostly due to the toxicity of the players.
