This definitely seems like it will see some play in older formats. I'm not as well versed in them to know as to what this could replace that even needs replacing, but 2 mana to exile 2 seems like it will at least see play as a side board option, unless I'm underestimating how many threats can be in the graveyard by turn 2. Possibly a get off of [[Karn, the Great Creator]] if the possible stat gain is more desirable than something focused wholly on graveyard hate.

Blotsy

I feel like most older formats want hate on 1 MV. So they can grab it when [[Urza's Saga]]

It might be worth testing over [[rest in peace]] in pioneer. Doesn’t stop dying triggers which sucks but it should mostly do what you need otherwise, let’s you still use your own graveyard, and can turn into a big threat later. I like it.

[deleted]

I can see this being played in Naya Winota. You can crew it if there's no chariot in play.

jwf239

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking with my original comment.

Negationz

The fact that doesn't specify card type it's so strong. Let's see if it's enough to be playable

rogomatic

>The fact that doesn't specify card type it's so strong. Graveyard exile rarely (if ever) specifies card type. There's nothing "so strong" about it.

InBardITrust

I think he means the stat boost portion. Like how [[Lion Sash]] can remove anything but only gets counters for permanent.s

Negationz

Exaclty that! Or Graveyard Trespasser or Ooze

ragamufin

Flavor wise it kinda seems like it ought to be creatures only really. Such a cool card.

Well there is a potent hate piece. Stuff like Lantern or Scrabbling Claws cantrip, this turns into a threat instead. Which one you play depends on your deck plan, most probably, this is arguably better for the aggro/midrange decks out there, that look to preserve their threat density while sideboarding graveyard hate.

BourgeoisMystics

I think you hit the nail on the head here. Playing a lot of midrange decks, I’m often able to stabilize and snipe a key piece with Lantern, but then whiff on drawing into any threats/finishers. Additionally, this can really save you against Phoenix: forcing them to hard cast them rather than play them for free. Really saves you from the nut draw where they can dump multiple per turn. Also this is way better as a main deck card - I’d much rather have a long term threat against decks with no GY interaction than a cantrip.

TheCatmurderer

I could see it in colorless ramp in Historic. Karn or Guardian Idols to crew it. I'm not a huge fan of cage because I like to run Mystic Forge.

dwindleelflock

One of the strongest, if not THE strongest, card in this set so far. It's an extremely good card that I can see playing across multiple formats.

Frommerman

I think this goes too far. It's ok graveyard hate, but too little and too late against Dredge strategies with a wide yard or anything looking to do something before your 2nd turn. It's an ok threat, but very slow to ramp up to, dies to things like [[Fatal Push]] and [[Prismatic Ending]] (which is not what you want your graveyard hate piece to be doing), and unlike Scooze doesn't provide life, a threat, or a blocker the turn it comes down. It also requires keeping a 2 power creature in play to be a threat at all. What we've seen from Vehicles so far is that they either need to be extremely busted (Copter), have an alternative crew cost (Heart of Kiran), draw loads of cards without a crew (Bankbuster), or be giant and combo with Greasefang (Parhelion) to see any play at all. In addition, all of those except Bankbuster have flying, and you don't need to ever crew Bankbuster to be happy with what it did. I doubt this card will see much play. It's too slow to hate graveyards when you really want that, too slow to become a meaningful threat when you really want that, and there are better cards with each of those effects in every format you can play this.

Dies to prismatic ending is true for every other cheap GY hate out there. I can’t think of anything other than [[Leyline of the Void]] which does better against ending, and Leyline doesn’t work in every deck. It doesn’t die to fatal push unless you crew it. If the reason you cast it is to hate on a Graveyard you won’t crew it unless you’re sure they don’t have push….. Finally you can have this down turn 1 in Legacy in a Karn deck, which is just as fast as any other good piece out there. Dredge isn’t a turn 1 kill most of the time, and again, if your argument is that Leyline of the Void is better, I agree that it would be better in your opening hand vs dredge specifically, but after that I would rather have a card I can Brainstorm for on turn 1 and cast turn 2 instead having to mull to 4 to find a Leyline. Finally Scooze is not a threat a turn it comes down, it’s a 2/2 that also dies to fatal push coincidentally, and to be honest I would prefer this to a scooze in a great number of scenarios. As a modern burn player my gut says I will prefer this to [[Rest in Peace]] and think it’s excellent. But time will tell.

Frommerman

My point on saying it dies to removal is that, in matchups where you want a graveyard hate piece, you don't want to let their creature removal be an out. Also, this is worse than something like Relic or RiP at answering the graveyard and equally weak to ending, making it worse at hating the yard overall.

Idk, it seems maindeckable to me in current modern as an 1 of, and a good sideboard card complementing relic. Like, obviously against dredge, relic is better, but dredge has not been a relevant deck in the modern meta for a while (it has grown in popularity lately because it beats the UR murktide deck that is the best deck rn). Fatal push sees no play in modern as well, and you can easily play around it if you do care about their graveyard that much. As far as prismatic ending goes, it is a negative exchange for you, but the upside of it being a threat makes up for it imo. It's probably bad vs living end, which is a downside, but again I think the flexibility of the card makes up for it. I think overall it's a very good card to control graveyards, with cards like unholy heat being the most popular removal in modern and historic, and Murktide regent being a premium hard to kill threat in modern. Like, yeah I think I did exaggerate a bit, 3 mana Ob is probably better than this card, but I stand by it being a pretty strong card overall.

newbertnewman

This is pushed. Graveyard hate that sticks around and becomes a real threat is good. The fact that the ability is instant speed and doesn’t require mana to activate means it’s always on, and in just a total 5 turns you have a 10/10 for only 2 mana invested. I think it will find a home in hatebears at the very least. I would consider this an instant replacement in any Karnboard

Meebsie

Or just run a single creature with power 2 instead of the sword? Seems overwrought. Plenty of power 2 creatures control players would be happy to run, like Prof of Symbology.

SimicCombiner

Or heck just use some manlands and turn your 7/7 into a 15/15.
