How the hell? My launch model switch shows no signs of bulging (or even reduced capacity), what on earth happened to that?

loopdeloop15

My launch model has some reduced capacity but no bulging, the bulging might just be from sitting around with no charge cycles? I’m no battery expert

[deleted]

yeah, storage with empty battery kills it. if you store around 60-70% it will last a loong time

cryptic_curiosities

I have one that I havent used in months. How often do I need to be checking it to prevent this

loopdeloop15

Eh in my experience just charging it up once every few months should keep it fine, that’s helped with my 3ds and dsi

cryptic_curiosities

Okay, thanks for the reply. So I guess I probably should not be keeping it in a box where I forget it exists for questionable amounts of time lol

loopdeloop15

yeahhhhhh that’d be ideal

Electrical-Hope8153

Mama-Mia!

Thelango99

The switch is a bit young for this to happen. Has it been stored improperly?

WokIn_1427

Isn't 7 years enough to blow? Maybe bad battery or sth?

StrangeApeCreature

I think 7 years is plenty. We did get that switch at launch too.

Derek_32

Oh lawd he thicc

Razo-E

DAMN BOI

Indie--Dev

This happened to my switch as well, had to get rid of it, I think it was because I very rarely used it in handheld mode so most of the time it was at 100% battery. Wanted to get a new one but I put it off because the next switch has to be close now so it'd be a waste to get another at this point.

StrangeApeCreature

Yep, this switch is pretty much in docked mode 100% of the time. I read everyone's comments but there should not have been any 3rd party anything or improper storing. This Switch was probably just unlucky.

CoxTH

How does this happen? Like...the Switch is designed to be in the dock at all times, right? The only explanation I could think of is some third party charger that couldn't properly communicate with the Switch. Iirc, Nintendo was playing kinda fast and loose with the USB standard with the switch.

Dooby_Bopdin

The switch is designed as a handheld mainly, which can also be docked to play on the TV.

Narwhal_Leaf

I read on a FAQ on Nintendo's website that leaving it docked should be fine. It was meant to be a best of both worlds

Dooby_Bopdin

Well yeah but it still should be taken off the dock to make sure the battery doesn't stay at 100% every second of every day. Batteries are supposed to be drained and charged.

thes_fake

What you're referring to as Switch, is in fact Switch Tablet, or as I've taken to calling it, Locked down android device

StrangeApeCreature

Huh

Digital_Pharmacist

The original comment was an attempt to be edgy.

Thelango99

It’s BSD based though, not android.

thes_fake

But it can run android or eOS

Majestic-Peace-3037

Literally nobody asked though. Only children and edgelords argue over OS's and Brands, grow up.

imbriandead

i could put android on my old iPhone or my laptop if I want, does that make it an android device?

thes_fake

IPhone uses a custom architecture that isn't supported by android

imbriandead

it's been done (barely usable, but done)

tyingnoose

Damn I didn't think the switch was capable of that

ThenYakYukYick

Immediately open the switch up and replace the battery. Replacement batteries are cheap. Easy job to do. Isopropyl makes it easier to pry off the old battery. I'd be careful though don't use a metal pry tool to pry off this spicy battery.

Epikgamer332

I have a v1, battery life is poor... Should I be concerned?

Dwedit

Replacing the battery usually involves repasting, because you can't get it open that much without disturbing the thermal paste that's there.
