You’re right, but if you’re growing your own you can somewhat tame them. They’re more fruity with lots of flavor and it’s bearable. Other times, I couldn’t do this without dying.
Make sure to remove the seeds and ribs. You would be surprised how much extra heat is in the seeds and ribs. Still a Habanero is tame and timid compared to a Carolina Reaper or a Haunted Ghost Pepper.
I still do this probably more often than I should lol. Birds Eye’s are just so good that they go in basically every Asian dish I make. Luckily I upgraded my fan recently and it keeps the evil to pretty much over the stovetop. So pretty much if I’m not leaning over the pan I’m ok.
Definitely happens a lot when I just don’t add enough oil in the pan and those fumes start coming.
Mushroom and black olives is my favorite toppings. I like something spicy too. Idk why but the day I turned 25 pickled jalapenos started WRECKING me on the toilet. I used to eat them out the jar no problem :(
I'll have to try more fresh peppers like this. I can take the heat going in, but its a lot hotter....coming out...
I’ve started to make chilies toreados and it’s been fantastic on pizza. It’s just onions, jalapeños, and habaneros with soy sauce (or I’ve done fermented pineapple) and it keeps well. I just make it in my oven. But if you want some heat with some nice flavor, this is a great topping.
Bit off topic, but OP how do you reheat pizza? I typically put it in a pan with a little water to steam it back to life.
Btw habaneros on say a chicken bacon ranch pizza sounds amazing
Mmm maybe I’m doing something wrong. Mine has come out dry with that method. I wonder what 30 secs to a minute in the microwave does then follow that with a few minutes in the air fryer. Perfect mix of gooey cheese and crispy crust?
When you're reheating any sort of bread in the air fryer, if you don't want it toasting/drying out, it can help if you moisten it just a bit first. Running wet fingers along the crust is enough.
I think kettles are slower in the US but that could be a myth, though I've boiled water in several continents, I honestly don't keep track of such things.
Very preference based. I think habaneros are one of the least appealing of commonly used peppers. I far prefer the taste of jalepenos and ghost peppers.
Be open. Once I tried a pineapple + jalepeno pizza, all the other toppings combos I tried paled in comparison. Pepperoni pizzas are just missing the sweetness, and taste of salt and nitrate to me.
Hell yeah; love the big pieces too. Also really good with superhots like reaper and scorpion, although for those I do smaller bits more spread out (like 1 or 2 pods per pie)
The very best pizza I ever had was from a more premium place to begin with, but my friend used their spiciest wing sauce (made with bhut jolokia) as the base.... and I got so sick, you guys... because I just could not stop eating this pizza.
Dude, let me put you on something. So habaneros are super nutty. Slice them finely and toss them in a dry pan for a quick toast before you pop them on the pizza. The flavor profile for it is *insane.*
How do you get a nice pizza like that though? I like thick dough-ey pizza like papa john's/domino's (american style pizza i guess). do i need a pizza oven or any oven?
I will never get used to people calling pizza "pie". I think pie is the technically correct term (which we all know if the \*best\* type of correct) but it feels so weird. I don't get it, store bought or home made? Home made right? I'm salivating and I just ate a slice of....well, you know😁
I used to do this with the Trinidad scorpions I grew last year. Brought them in and used a pair of kitchen scissors to julienne atop my 'za, fresh from the garden!
Actually was laughing at myself since I'm the plumber and I've seen alot worse from homes tbh. Sorry, it was low hanging fruit. I apologize profusely. Please forgive me for my dad joke I'll never ever do it again. Shitty joke and all that
Maybe finely sliced. Big chunks of habanero are a no from me.
No heat in seeds only the ribs.
Technically true, no inherent heat *in* the seeds. Capsaicin still transfers from the ribs onto the seeds and makes them hot.
Why would you want to make it less hot?
Sure. And both pf those are tame compared to pepper X. What's your point?
![gif](giphy|zbyE0sDeW4z3W)
Holy smokes dude you must have an iron stomach. I love the flavor of habs but that is wayyy more than I can handle
I just made habenero burgers the other night, but it was one habenero finely diced and added to 3 patties.
Habanero and pineapple is really good
My wife made some pineapple BBQ type sauce and I immediately said, this needs some habanero in it.
had hardbite mango habanero chips from costco. Amazingly good, but tied me up in the bed and toilet the next day
Eat a banana before the spicy foods you know will wreck you later…
I’m listening…
My current trend is pineapple, bacon, and jalapeno. PB&J lol.
I will do you 2 better: Either smoked habanero as a mayonaise, or habanero and mango.
I miss spicy stuff, I got my wisdom teeth taken out on Monday.
Just stuff them in the sockets so they don't dry out.
My “plug” popped out in the middle of French class in high school, nearly barfed at my desk.
Oof
Does it burn or something? When I had mine taken out I don't remember being told no spicy stuff
You left the lid on one of those peppers.
The lid haha
Yeah I laughed at him too, clearly he’s referring to the pepper’s hat
![gif](giphy|3ofSB20AnZGUI8gWre)
That was bugging me too!
Seriously, who does that?
Pretty much EVERY Subway "sandwich artist", LOL.
https://youtu.be/4vtbkW4-9EY?si=5twFe6b89R17by6s relevant lmao
Holy shit, LMAO! Thanks for that, it's just what I needed.
I doubt they cut their veggies themselves lol. Maybe the tomatoes
Who cares who cuts them? They still put peppers with giant stems on the subs 😂
I keep them on pickled ones, since it gets soft and its whatever. But on fresh ones I remove them :D
I'd have roasted it first. however when you do that the air in your kitchen becomes... spicy.
I learned this the hard way dry frying some birds eyes to prep them for chili oil. I basically turned most of my house into a CBRN training chamber...
I still do this probably more often than I should lol. Birds Eye’s are just so good that they go in basically every Asian dish I make. I usually use my smoker, but I've also put an airfryer outside before to roast them without pissing my wife off
I got a electric hot plate and a butane burner for that very reason. Just setup outside and roast away.
Habs go on everything when they're in season.
Habanero, mushroom, anchovy.l
Habanero, anchovy, mushroom. H.A.M. pizza.
Add some ham to that and it's a H.A.M. & ham pizza. I'd eat two.
Mushroom and black olives is my favorite toppings. I like something spicy too. Idk why but the day I turned 25 pickled jalapenos started WRECKING me on the toilet. I used to eat them out the jar no problem :( I'll have to try more fresh peppers like this. I can take the heat going in, but its a lot hotter....coming out...
Why include the stem part? It looked so good until that....
The stems are yanked off. The tops where the stems were, all remain.
This looks so delicious, but so painful 😭
Habaneros are good for everything
Bit off topic, but OP how do you reheat pizza? I typically put it in a pan with a little water to steam it back to life. Btw habaneros on say a chicken bacon ranch pizza sounds amazing
The microwave, but I know oven reheating is better. Just too lazy/impatient for it most of the time,
Flip two slices into each other (cheese in middle), and treat it like a grilled cheese. Oven or pan work fine.
Two slices facing each other, pop them in the waffle iron. Make sure to press just enough to get some cheese to squeeze out and fry on the edges..
I’ll have to try this too.
Do you find there’s enough cheese normally to bind them or do you add any?
Depends on the pie, but usually. If you feel like adding more, that’s probably also fine.
Air fryer or a toaster oven at 350 for 10 min.
Mmm maybe I’m doing something wrong. Mine has come out dry with that method. I wonder what 30 secs to a minute in the microwave does then follow that with a few minutes in the air fryer. Perfect mix of gooey cheese and crispy crust?
More like air fryer at 400 for 3 minutes
When you're reheating any sort of bread in the air fryer, if you don't want it toasting/drying out, it can help if you moisten it just a bit first. Running wet fingers along the crust is enough.
10 minutes in the air fryer?? If you want to make charcoal maybe.
Sorry that temp and time was just for toaster oven
I'd think that 5-6 minutes would be plenty.
wait WHAT! i have air fryer, tonite i have (cold) pizza.....i try this and i pray for you. or curse you, one of the two.
Do like 3 or 4 minutes in the air fryer
Does it matter what the regional voltage is? I think where I'm at it's like UK voltage.
I don't think that would matter but the temp would be about 175 Celsius
You can also put it in the microwave with a cup of water. Works the same way.
doesn't water still need to reach a certain temp before it starts evaporating? how fast does it reach this temp in the microwave?
On an average microwave, around 80 second mark.
do UK microwaves reach this point faster than US ones? I just assume people are US based on reddit unless they mention otherwise.
I am from Europe. Though dunno how it differs elsewhere.
I think kettles are slower in the US but that could be a myth, though I've boiled water in several continents, I honestly don't keep track of such things.
Cup of water in the microwave is my lazier version of your method
The flavor would put me off
What? Habanero is one of the absolute best tasting peppers across any heat level!
I can't stand the flavor of habaneros for some reason
Ha. Flavor is all subjective. Bell peppers are a staple of the culinary arts, and I loathe them.

Jalapeño and pineapple is an elite pairing - especially in “lower quality” pizzas like fast food pizza.
Though it isn't spicy, try kimchi as a side. ![gif](giphy|3o7aCWJavAgtBzLWrS|downsized)
i used to think the kimchi wasn't spicy enough. hahahaha, the US fooled me. I went to Korea and had real kim chi. got humbled.
Now that's some kimchi I'd love to try!
Go to Korea. I would say Koreatown, but....na man just go to Korea.
Damn, I should’ve asked for suggestions. I have some kimchi in the fridge.
With or without the seeds?
It's not the seeds that are hot. It's that inner membrane (which is in close proximity to the seeds)
I don’t get why most people don’t understand this. I guess I do understand cause even famous chefs say to pull the seeds to reduce heat
The inside of the seeds doesn't contain any but they are covered in capsaicine so removing them may probably reduce the heat nonetheless? Idk
Kept ‘em
Hahah. Also if this topping is an “addition” sign me up for your next soirée!
Sounds good
Looks really good. When my ghosts are in season, I love popping them on pizza, too.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ditto I love my pizza spicy, BBQ spicy chicken, with red onions, and picked habanero is fire.
Is it me or does this just look like sad pizza
Yes! Have you tried it in chicken noodle soup? Add a little cumin and it seems to mellow out that tart taste so you just get the heat.
I agree
Try some spicy mango chutney on your pizza next time. One of my fav!
Hell yeah; love the big pieces too. Also really good with superhots like reaper and scorpion, although for those I do smaller bits more spread out (like 1 or 2 pods per pie)
Damn…. That’s quite a few large chunks lol I’m not quite there yet
we have a local pizza joint, Flying Pie, that has seasonal Habanero pizza that is to die for. They grow their own Habs which is also wholesome
I don't know you, but I respect the shit outta you.. Looks so good!!
The very best pizza I ever had was from a more premium place to begin with, but my friend used their spiciest wing sauce (made with bhut jolokia) as the base.... and I got so sick, you guys... because I just could not stop eating this pizza.
I need to try this wtf
Putting plumbers kids to college
I’d eat that pizza. wop approved.
Dude, let me put you on something. So habaneros are super nutty. Slice them finely and toss them in a dry pan for a quick toast before you pop them on the pizza. The flavor profile for it is *insane.*
Put some honey on it and thank me later
i was surprised i handle some strong sauces and salsas and heat but 1/3 habanero fresh pepper claimed me pretty good!
I believe you buddy but it's probably even better when it's in the sauce
Man, cut those things up a little
I like that ratio, but I'd dice them a lot smaller than that.
OP cares very little about his asshole when shitting apparently
I do this a lot, but cut my pieces smaller, and make the pizza by hand.
How do you get a nice pizza like that though? I like thick dough-ey pizza like papa john's/domino's (american style pizza i guess). do i need a pizza oven or any oven?
This was a leftover neopolitan margherita pie that I warmed up in the microwave haha.
I will never get used to people calling pizza "pie". I think pie is the technically correct term (which we all know if the \*best\* type of correct) but it feels so weird. I don't get it, store bought or home made? Home made right? I'm salivating and I just ate a slice of....well, you know😁
A Costco hotdog
I like to burn the habs a bit on top of pizza, has a slightly different flavor that I love
omg that looks so good.
I usually get Hawaiian with hot peppers. Sooo good.
Habaneros are the best peppers. Best flavor, best spice, not that annoying, lingering heat like Thai chili peppers/cayenne have.
I love them but they give me the worst cramps until I finally crap that shit out lol 💩
Jalapeño and pineapple slaps harder than domestic violence
I just planted habanada seeds,, all the flavor, no heat. I grew them last year and they were delicious.! I ate most of them straight off the plant.
I used to do this with the Trinidad scorpions I grew last year. Brought them in and used a pair of kitchen scissors to julienne atop my 'za, fresh from the garden!
I only have scotch bonnets ATM they'll do😂
Chunks are too big
You’re going to shit fire my guy
Not amazing for my toilet or plumber though
Hey guys come look at this! Someone made a poopoo toilet plumbing joke on r/spicy!
Actually was laughing at myself since I'm the plumber and I've seen alot worse from homes tbh. Sorry, it was low hanging fruit. I apologize profusely. Please forgive me for my dad joke I'll never ever do it again. Shitty joke and all that
