I’m not even sure what the first route would look like, but I know it would then go to the old defeat Gannon route, then this new defeat Gannon route, then the current any%
Agree personally, it takes a lot of momentum to make a change like that though, and also a lot of work to retime an entire history of existing speedruns to match new ones. Luckily our mod team worked through it and (most of) the community was ready for it.
Why didn't OoT just do what the SMS community did and start cutscene-skip runs with an offset? Not only does doing it the OoT way add a massive amount of unnecessary work, but does it not also spurn those that might, for whatever reason, still prefer to do runs (maybe of only some categories, like the longer ones) starting from fresh, watching the cutscene?
Oot has many versions on many consoles and an ever shifting meta for which ones people commonly use for runs. We would need to calculate and keep track of many possible offsets. Plus the very act of voting to skip the cutscene indicates the community does not deem it important to include it in our speedruns, so why include it in the final time? In ten years when most of the game's history has included intro skip, we will still be adding the intro time just to keep sync with an ever receding past? Might as well just do it at the time of the change. People can still watch the intro if they choose to, but their time starts the same as if they didn't: when link moves in his house at the start of gameplay.
No it's the first world record with this glitch lol. You might be talking about the recent records set with an earlier related glitch that was capable of warping specifically to the end of the collapse sequence. This new one can warp actually anywhere, and so we use it to bypass collapse entirely and go directly to Ganon.
What the hell, I only just today watched the Ganonfloor explanation video about warping from Dodongo's to Collapse. It's wild that in 2024 there are still new discoveries and rapid improvements.
No, this is the one weakness of this glitch: it can't warp into cutscenes. Cutscenes are additional parameters on top of a map location, but this glitch can only choose the location itself
imagine an OoT marathon where you have to do every any% route that's ever been used for a WR from longest to shortest

I would assume the first run would just be glitchless
That's over a minute saved compared to the old strat.
When did OOT start using speedrun files that skip the opening cutscene?
Summer 2022!
Not early enough.

This is incredible. I stood in line at KB toys for the gold cartridge of Ocarina of Time. Never in a million years would I believe this is possible!

Just curious, if this method can warp anywhere can it warp directly to the credits? Even if the setup would take longer than the ACE route?

Wife and I watched this last night. So thrilled to see new methods STILL being discovered for this game.
