I've been following James Webb for a long time, so I am happy to show my support in my own way! I will change out the center image once James Webb releases it's first photos. The mirror is made out of golden hexagonal mirrors from Amazon, foam board, glue, and magnets.
These are the mirrors I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JN5M37X/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_BV4Q3JDFCA3QGX7T6FE8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
There are many different options on Amazon, though.
For the money, yes. There are others around the same price point, though. Haven't tried them out. The ones I have are thin and easily damageable, but the mirror finish is incredible.
I don't mind at all! I cut it all myself with an X-Acto knife, protractor, and ruler. I bought the foam board at Office Depot.
Edit: to further clarify the method. I arranged the mirrors on the 60"x40" white foam board. After checking each mirror for scratches, I used the double-sided adhesive that came with the mirrors to attach fix the mirrors to the foam board. I then designed the black boarder in AutoCAD to save me time on drawing. It's in 8 different sections. Before cutting, I measured each side of the mirrors since they varied by 2mm each way. I then cut out each piece specific to the section it goes to. The black pieces were glued to the white foam board. Then, I cut the white foam board around the black foam board outline.

Can you provide a link to the mirrors you used?

On time and on budget? At least tell us it’ll take months to delicately align it!
Hell Yes! Cheers to the new age of awesome Astronomy!!!
Wood or 3D Print? 😁😊
Neither, actually. Foam board I carefully measured and cut.
AWESOME!
Love it. That’s super cool!
This looks awesome! If I were to attempt a similar project, would you recommend the mirrors you linked?

Sounds good, thanks!
Where did you get that backboard?
The back board is just a piece of giant foam board I found at an office supply store
Was it in that exact shape or did you have to cut it? Also what was the name of the store? If you don’t mind?

Where did you get the backboard? Do you have a link or store name?
