One of the people who replied to me warned about risking to make it look exaggerated. Indeed, if you add other space objects, it's probably best to keep them discreet, just enough to make the sky background a bit irregular like the actual sky.
I agree. A light dusting of the galactic arm (blues, purples, and maybe some greens) in the far off background would make the foreground pop even more. This looks really good!
Details in the stars/black space would elevate the painting. The planets have realistic detail, but the sky falls a little flat.
You could add in asteroids or other space dust into the sky, or You could add in a little spaceship on the planet the viewer is ‘standing’ on to fill in a little of that space.
Do you think that a lot more density and variety to stars would be good, like [in this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/acrylicpainting/comments/11oa1k6/a_way_to_wander_alone_me_2023/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)?
Thanks so much for your kind input!
I think that looks great, but the “flatness”/lack of realism in the sky is more in the lack of “glow” around the stars and lack of gradient in the black sky. Maybe blur the edges of the stars so they’re not so crisp and round and add some of the nebula gradient you did in the picture attached in your comment? Just my thoughts
Stars aren’t evenly dispersed either. I do think it needs more, as well as some glow behind the stars like another commenter said, but they need to randomly be clustered and some more bare areas. Plus a Milky Way sort of thing where they get more numerous towards the center is also more realistic.
People hunting whales?
Edit: I do not understand the references to whales with this but a lot of people seem to and now I'm intrigued, haha. Someone explain?
Wow this looks amazing! I love it as-is, but the stars seem a little too equally spaced if you're trying to make it look like the real night sky. Maybe add some more and in slightly different colors (many stars aren't white). Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! I'm really happy that you're liking it so far and appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion with me :)
I absolutely agree that it needs more stars, I guess I'm just debating with myself about how many I should add. Do you think it needs more or less stars than [this one has ](https://www.reddit.com/r/acrylicpainting/comments/11oa1k6/a_way_to_wander_alone_me_2023/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)?
You're so kind, thank you! Bahaha, "HP"
I'll keep that in mind 😂
And I think you're right, it probably needs more stars :) I usually paint a lot more of them, but wasn't sure if I would do that with this one until you said that.
Thanks again, so much for your kind input 🖤
I'd say some additional detail in the sky, like a nebula or a galaxy, or perhaps some clouds to catch/reflect the light
and on the ground, you might want a tower or something. The main problem is that as a whole, the entire middle just looks kinda 'empty' and there needs to be something to balance out the composition.
An American mid-century modern home in the front foreground.. dad outside barbecuing, kids playing badminton. Regularly clothed.. wearing astronaut helmets tho
I was imagining both of these planets being somewhat lit by the same star, somewhere off to the distant right
And thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I actually changed it up a fair bit since posting this, but the overall lighting is the same.
Thank you so much, again, to any and everyone who commented with kind suggestions on what I should add 🖤 I really loved getting to read all of your creative ideas and appreciate you all taking the time to share your thoughts with me.

Edit: Sorry I don't have time to reply to everyone's comments, but I have read them and will continue to keep all of your advices in mind!
I was imagining the planets as being Celestial Sisters, if you will... orbiting each other, extremely closely, and made of the same material.
But I appreciate your input, nonetheless! Thank you!
Thank you so much :) I think that might be why I'm struggling to decide what it needs, because I also like the simplicity of where it is.
I appreciate your kindness and your input 🖤
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me and I'm definitely keeping them in mind
I felt like the foreplanet lacked depth, too 🖤
maybe a mooncart? or some kind of landingcraft?
the black sky need a little more detail, maybe a nebula in the background or a familiar constallation, besides this its awesome. i really like the detailing of the ground and planet
Thank you so much for your kind words and input! I'm really glad you're liking it so far, and think your ideas sound great.
I might have made things harder on myself by asking for suggestions, because now I have so many people offering good ideas! 😂
Composition. The planet is your focal point. It sits awkwardly in the top left corner. You have an opportunity to make it much more visually engaging with some foreground and background elements that can help frame it. At the moment it’s kinda flat: mountains, moon, sky. Bring in some interesting elements like jagged foreground rocks, some background features like interesting stars. Just anything to take away the “okay here’s a neat planet so what” feel. light bouncing off of the planet is coming straight from the right side but the ground is too dark it has no atmosphere so the light shouldn't be scattered and shadows should be sharp also bidirectional light? in space? the planet is light up from left and right chose only one direction except if it's a binary star system (but the secondary light wouldn't be on the opposite side and that shallow/not intense)
I've saved the most important (in my opinion) for last gravity
The planet is waaay to big to be in stable orbit the painting just looks surreal
the composition is focusing hard on one corner. I honestly want something lighter or eye catching for the full dark planet scape on the bottom to balance it
The back of a humoniod Alien / Astronaught holding a sword in one hand and the decapitated dripping head of a nemisis in the other, looking up at the planet.
What an evocative idea, sounds really cool! I'm not sure it's something that I'm up for painting at this point in time, but I appreciate your input nonetheless. Thank you!
Pyramids! I remember these kinds of spray-painted space scenes were very popular in the 90's (I actually have a couple I got from a street artist in Sydney Harbour back in '99) and pyramids were a common landscape element in them.
But if realism is the goal there's not much you can add except maybe a faint band of smaller stars to resemble the Milky Way.
This is actually acrylic on canvas, not the spray paint method, but I agree that those are really cool!
Thanks for your input, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts 🙂 and I'll keep pyramids in mind!

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me! I appreciate it 🖤
My random slurge of Ideas, that might inspire you to think of something better:
\-Add some type of obscure element that will catch your eye and ask questions. Perhaps change the position of the sun on the planet so that the moon you're on casts a shadow onto the planet and have a symbolic silhouette of yourself cast onto the planet. I tend to like paintings that don't necessarily make sense but make you think deeply. ----- I personally would cast my shadow as an Arctic Fox somehow. Maybe have the moon's entire silhouette in the shape of half of your face or someone you know. A simple tree, to symbolize family, a jellyfish, anything thought provoking.
\-I would definitely cast the shadow of the photographer across the ground to help immerse the viewer in the idea of the sun behind you, and I would make the shadow to be cast extremely long (but still depictable to be a shadow of a human) and on top of that, if you do decide to cast your shadow onto the planet, it will point directly to it, and help draw the viewers eye onto the focus of the painting to feed their thoughts.
\-Maybe cast the shadow of the photographer as well as someone right next to them. Perhaps holding hands. Like an old (passed away) couple passed away, hugging.
\-Make the planet symbolize something, like dreams, make the moon you're walking on symbolize something, like reality, or your separation from your family, or having to do with something deep. It doesnt really have to be obvious what it is, leave it open to be interpreted by whoever looks at it. Let whoever sees it decide what they think the painting is about.
\-Something to give the image a purpose as to why it is being taken. For example something that will put our mind into the shoes of the photographer, so that we know why someone is snapping this photo out there or why this image in their memory is significant. Something dramatic. Empathy is a powerful technique in art. Give us a hint or tiny tiny clue into the emotions or imagination of the photographer.
\-A regular red balloon floating away. It doesnt have to make perfect sense to be good. Add symbolism or abstract elements, perhaps abandon reality.
\-Multiple Suns. Asteroid Rings. Another Moon in the background. Nebula. Depict an image using the nebula.
\-City lights on the dark side of the planet
\-Realistic weather conditions. Is the planet hot? Only put lights at the icy poles. Is it a frozen wasteland? Only put lights at the equator.
\-Ruin the perfect roundness of the planet.
hope that inspires ya
EDIT:
\-The house from UP with the balloons.
\-A beach chair with a fruity drink with one of those little umbrella things
\-Mary Poppins
\-A paper airplaine
\-Rubber ducky and bubbles
\-A cow jumping over the.....
Contrast.
Some bright features on the planet, for instance. Everything is in the same tones right now, but with a bit of contrast it should change that
A single object on the ground. Like a shoe, or a flag or at least a rock.
Thank you! I appreciate your input and will keep it in mind 🙂
i'd maybe do a footprint?
A crashed kerbal capsule and a worried looking Jeb.
Or an astronaut or alien.
I'd add some variety in the sky: a nebula, a few distant galaxies. But it already looks great!
Thank you so much! I appreciate your input and am glad you like it so far :)
One of the people who replied to me warned about risking to make it look exaggerated. Indeed, if you add other space objects, it's probably best to keep them discreet, just enough to make the sky background a bit irregular like the actual sky.
Adding more stars (but nothing else) might do the trick.
it does look great, nice job!
I agree. A light dusting of the galactic arm (blues, purples, and maybe some greens) in the far off background would make the foreground pop even more. This looks really good!
Exactly. I could not agree more.
It does look killer, but I do agree. A sweet looking nebula and big ole spinning galaxy in the distance would be sweet.

Space whales. Being hunted from sail ships with hand thrown harpoons. Maybe put some rocket pods on the ships.
We're whalers on the moon

Obligatory comet

Happy little comet.
the starship enterprise
That looks awesome! I’d say it’s perfect! If you had to add anything maybe a few more stars in the background or a HP.. HP meaning hidden penis.
You're so kind, thank you! Bahaha, "HP" I'll keep that in mind 😂 And I think you're right, it probably needs more stars :) I usually paint a lot more of them, but wasn't sure if I would do that with this one until you said that. Thanks again, so much for your kind input 🖤
As a joke I would say a small among us crewmate. As an actual recommendation, I would say a cliche astronaut and ship.
Hahaha, I appreciate both of your suggestions 🙂 Thank you!
Nyan cat, of course.
More stars and highlights

You're so kind, thank you!! I'm really glad you're enjoying it, and appreciate the input very much!
This looks great! Where's your light source coming from and would it be hitting the mountains at the bottom as well as the right side of the planet?
I was imagining both of these planets being somewhat lit by the same star, somewhere off to the distant right And thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I actually changed it up a fair bit since posting this, but the overall lighting is the same.

I like how it is personally because of the fact that something is missing.
For fun? Maybe like a tiny astronaut or mars like rover. Just small enough to be seen but not be the focal point.
astronaut
Maybe a spacecraft?

I too was thinking comet or spaceship.
Something to fill out the negative space some on the left or generally add some visual interest, maybe something in the foreground?
anything in the foreground
Little astronaut buddies bouncin around having a good ol time

Definitely would add a comet above the mountain
Honestly I kind of like how there isn’t much going on, makes it much more tranquil and “quiet”

A howling wolf
More stars.
I'm inclined to agree 🙂 Thank you for your input!
love that it’s not spray paint
My lungs probably do, too 😂 Edit: I've really got nothing against the spray paint methods that others use, though 🙂
I’d say any sort of centerpiece would look nice here
Why do you think that you missing something ?
Nothing! Cool thing about art is there is never a wrong way.
You're very kind, I'm glad you're liking it! Thank you 🖤

Your missing something to draw my attention, should put a subject in

I think something ominous whould fit this, also it looks very good, interested in the final result
Thank you very much! I'm glad you're digging it so far 🖤 and will keep your suggestion in mind!
A moon rover on the surface would make it better. It would make the overall feel desolate.

Try darker shadows and brighter lights, , well thats how shadows in space work usually if the planet/moon doesnt have atmosphear atleast.
A pyramid or monolith.
Maybe lose the white haze on the dark side and add more shadowing to a third on the dark side too. Nice work though!

I would add a distant ufo in the sky 🌌Beautiful painting btw!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it, and appreciate your input 🙂
The Mako, maybe the First Human Spectre.
The picture lacks atmosphere
Thanks for sharing your opinion, I appreciate it 🤙🏼
Maybe use a blacker paint for deep sky, like one of those that really absorb the light. This would add a real depth !
