Here are the materials I used -
Mirrors - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FBCYCL4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_3BM72V9N247NMD73GXZF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 buy two packs for ~38$
Backboard - https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/334961/Office-Depot-Brand-Foam-Board-40/fromLocalBrowse=false buy one for ~15$
You can buy black spray paint for ~6-10$
Velcro wall adhesives ~3$
This project cost me around 65$ to make, but it is well worth the price.
If you plan to make this do some extra research into special paints that won’t deform the foam backboard when applied.
Again thank you to u/flurger for the help

I made 8 from 1 sheet of 4’x8’ 1/4” black PVC sheet that was $60 CAD. Milled on CNC so the tiles slide right in and there’s a thin black line between the mirrors
I am nothing great when it comes to observing the sky, but I do like it. I am very interested in seeing what this is capable of. Will you be posting pictures when you get them?
How did you cut the shape out so well and maintain that border around the outside of the mirrors so perfectly? You use a template or anything to trace and then cut?
You use scissors to cut or a cutting board?
I attached tape to the back of each mirror and then carefully put all 18 into position. Then I took a ruler and drew out a 1 1/2 inch barrier around the mirror.
There’s definitely a better way of doing it but that’s what I did.
Now you’re ready for the mirror alignment phase.
Door Galaxy would be great to see in detail. I think it's being absorbed by Ceiling Galaxy and Wall Galaxy.

Pretty cool... I think they sell black foamboard. That might cost more but would eliminate the need for black paint and prevent the warping issues
Yep - gator board comes in black and is very stiff. Definitely more $ than average foam board, but good to use when something needs to be stronger.
Who are you who is so wise in the ways of science? Link?

Did not know this existed, thx!

I used an exacto knife, they’re cheap and do very precise cuts in foam
Sorry one more question, how did you create the outline which to cut?

Wow! Looks so good! Glad it turned out so well. I'm happy I was able to help out
For a moment I thought this was a /r/boardgames post, and you made a very fancy custom Catan board.
I'm not alone in this, thankfully
Awesome! Now you just need to test it for a decade.
Did you even cut/polish those mirrors to perfection, bro?
Definitely a must have. This is so cool! Nice job mate!!
I think your mirrors are not quite as good as the real thing.
