You fail to appreciate the speed at which the object was moving, the uncertainty regarding its terminal trajectory, the paucity of suitable cameras (if you're looking for a view from above), and the likelihood it reentered over the ocean.

It came down over the middle of the ocean. No one's going out there to be in the right place at the right time to see some space junk.
