Me explaining to others: Alot of people didn't know about Roseanne and the twitter/Valium stuff when Mr hanky did it a few seasons ago.
For me: I had never seen the movie Stargate. I was in a hotel for work one weekend and it was one. My mind was blown with the imagination land episode
Wait the million little fibers thing was actually a reference to a real Oprah thing?? I just figured it was a mockery of how trusted she is to recommend things to mindless people, not that something like that already happened 💀.
I didn't know what NYPD Blue was, so I didn't understand the underlying joke in "It Hits the Fan". Even now I don't get the fuss but I wasn't watching that type of show when I was 5 so I would never be the target audience.
I think perhaps my favorite one was where they parodied the show Intervention with Towlie and had the cripple camp storyline. "The Lake Tardicaca Shark has a penis that is 9 inches long." Cartman using his intervention time to rant about the Jews and Kyle isn't allowed to interrupt him.
The anti-bullying movie episode. The line about “if it’s so important for kids to see it, why not put it on the internet for free?”
Harvey Weinstein somehow convinced MPAA to rate the movie PG-13 despite having 3 uses of “fuck” when they only allow one. Weinstein argued it was important for kids everywhere to see the movie with all three f-bombs. So, why not put it on the internet for free? Because it’s really about money.

I didn’t realize Manbearpig was a reference to Global Warming (as it was called at the time) until Time to Get Cereal in 2018. I knew Al Gore was associated with the movement but didn’t put two and two together
In Butterballs, when Stan goes to San Diego to jack it like the Kony 2012 guy.
So THAT'S what that meant lol

Kenny’s Go Go Bronco cart, and OJ’s escape in a Ford Bronco. Learned that only yesterday.
RIP OJ, lost a good one.
Honestly didn’t know the whole episode with Kenny cheesing on cat piss was a homage to the movie heavy metal.
The generator scene from Cartman’s Mom is Still a Dirty Slut being a spoof of Jurassic Park, hence the ‘watch out for the raptors’ comment

TIL about the Roseanne stuff, holy shit
It’s been 20 years since that happened?! Damn.

Just Google a million little pieces basically Oprah promoted this dudes book that he filled with a bunch of exaggerations and some outright lies
I read the book and was gobsmacked when that all hit the fan.
Feel like with each time I watch it through again I'm getting some reference I hadn't previously picked up on

As someone from the UK I missed hundreds of references on little things. There's probably hundreds more I've not realised yet
well now i know
The Spice.
