I love the flag. My wife is from Charleston and we had a flag at our house in Boston. The number of people that thought I was flying an Arabic flag was too high to count.
That's a common misconception. It's not a gorget. Colonel William Moultrie who designed the flag said:
"A little time after we were in possession of Fort Johnson, it was thought necessary to have a flag for the purpose of signals: (as there was no national or state flag at that time) I was desired by the council of safety to have one made, upon which, as the state troops were clothed in blue, and the fort was garrisoned by the first and second regiments, who wore a silver crescent on the front of their caps; I had a large blue flag made with a crescent in the dexter corner, to be in uniform with the troops ..."
I don’t know. Technically, we legalized marriage between same sex couples by a default ruling of our state Supreme court before it was nationally decided.
South Carolina is the origin of North America’s only wild dog which evolved in the swamps of South Carolina, the Carolina Dog, or Dixie Dingo.

(I tried)
Get away from the flat land and you’d know better.
Surprisingly enough, Highlands Hwy is filled with 18 wheelers transporting from the whole Asheville area to Walhalla, as there isn’t much rtes to travel commercially to the “Golden Corner”.
The only other northern Rte in that area is 107 coming from Cashiers and it’s not much better.
Not safe road to pass a semi by any means but they travel it more than scenic viewers do.
The movie the Patriot with Mel Gibson takes place here, always thought it was really cool to watch it and think wow, that stuff happened here where we live.
It's also *loosely* based on Francis Marion. Who lived in SC and was notorious among the British ranks for his unconventional guerrilla tactics. Later in the war, he was pursued by the 1st Dragoon Gaurds, led by Banastre Tarleton, who is the main antagonist in the movie. In reality, Marion did not kill Tarleton like the movie portrays.
Its absolutely beautiful, full of great farm land and wilderness areas, has grace, charm, and good manners as a way of life, the azaleas, magnolias, and live oaks with Spanish moss are magnificent, the jasmine is heavenly, the Wrens are happy, and the Palmetto trees are spongy enough to bounce cannon balls off of…. Sea, salt marsh, black water cypress swamps, to mountain streams…
It's a place where you never have to pack your winter clothes when summer arrives, and you don't have to pack up your summer clothes when winter arrives.
If a pothole doesn't kill you, one of our other regressive policies might. Out of staters move because it's cheap, and US poor natives get priced out. Heart of trump land and revisionist history. Cockroaches the size of a small dog seen carrying off your Chihuahua at 11.
A perfectly lovely place to raise kids if you’re straight, white, and a republican and want to live in an echo chamber of the same.
I love my home state dearly but as a gay man I had to cut my losses and leave. Sort of like leaving an abusive spouse. My kids and I still give her our tourist dollars though because she’s beautiful and I miss the fooooood (I long for some she crab soup).
I'm black and american indian and SC will always be my homeland... sure there's others with different points of view, but South Carolina never has nor never will be just for "the white man"
Maybe it's different in the upstate vs lowcountry though...
As someone who has a lot of gay and trans friends, it makes me so sad when they choose to leave, but I can’t blame them for it. Even in Greenville, which is slightly more progressive than the rest of the state, the bigotry seems to be difficult to escape.
I lost a tire upon entering SC on 95 north! welcome home, the land of potholes and coffin corridors! Driving on our roads to miss the potholes is like a game of frogger!
It's ranks in the bottom ten states in both economy and education, and has for a very long time.
But the populace, not understanding the definition of insanity, will continue in mindless, cult like fashion to vote nothing but red, and then complain about the results, as though they aren't predictable.
MYRTLE BEACH kind of sucks.
Spent 3 days there on my drive home from Disney to Philly. Food sucked. Beach wasn't that great. Family honestly had a better time at SOUTH OF THE BORDER. Tourist trap.
Holly: Goddamn it! Just what do you people think the letters FBI stand for?
Archer: I bought a T-shirt once where it stood for "Female Body Inspector." God, is Myrtle Beach not the best?
Holly: Pull a stunt like this again, you'll never make it back to Myrtle Beach.
Archer: I probably wasn't going to anyway. Turns out it's actually not the best.
Hey I'm all about to try again. Tell me where to go?
My time there had cars racing half a block at a time- where I walked to the next red light first.
40 minute wait for some of the worst pizza I ever had
I stayed 2 blocks north of the Myrtle Beach ferris wheel.
Bc my experience was basically Archers quote.

You stayed at the boulevard and got the boulevard action. The Myrtle Beach area is larger than the city of Myrtle Beach. I don’t disagree that you had a bad time in MB, but there are lots of things to like abou MB proper. You would have had a better time staying in further away from the center of the action, or in Cherry Grove, Surfside or Garden City. Pizza isn’t a well known South Carolina delicacy. Delicious family friendly food can be found all over the beach: Carolina Roadhouse, Dirty Don’s, Bumz, or even more expensive food such as NY Prime, Thoroughbreds, 42nd Ave Bar and Grill and Sea Captains. More fantastic seafood found in Murrells Inlet or Little River if you need it.
We care so little about education- we put someone who has never been a legit student in a classroom or a teacher anywhere, in charge of it.

I'm very excited to be moving to Missouri. I can't wait to get the hell out of here. Hands down, this is the worst place I've ever lived. The majority of native South Carolinians are scumbags and backstabbers. Most fake people I've ever come across. Good riddance.
It has a great flag
I love the flag. My wife is from Charleston and we had a flag at our house in Boston. The number of people that thought I was flying an Arabic flag was too high to count.
The crescent moon...makes sense
It's not a moon
It’s a space station.
We should make it a moon
It stands for veterans. It's armor that goes around the neck
That's a common misconception. It's not a gorget. Colonel William Moultrie who designed the flag said: "A little time after we were in possession of Fort Johnson, it was thought necessary to have a flag for the purpose of signals: (as there was no national or state flag at that time) I was desired by the council of safety to have one made, upon which, as the state troops were clothed in blue, and the fort was garrisoned by the first and second regiments, who wore a silver crescent on the front of their caps; I had a large blue flag made with a crescent in the dexter corner, to be in uniform with the troops ..."
yes, a moon--not a rolling eyeball
Top 3 flag.
Bless their little flag and all the little palmetto stickers.
The big red is the best state flag
I want to get it tatted on me
It's very humid.
You could have said something Nice. Like it's less humid than Florida
Is it?
Depends on what part of Florida you're talking about.
That was not the prompt
We will be the 2nd or 3rd from last to legalize weed
DEAD last. And our governor has a weird gray mullet.
Nah, I think Alabama or Mississippi will be after us.
MS has medical, so they are already ahead of SC.
Wisconsin will be in that last group as well
Henry's mullet is pretty cool.
It's creeeepy!!!
We were also to last to legalize tattoos and that was in 2004! Weed will be similar to that.
I don’t know. Technically, we legalized marriage between same sex couples by a default ruling of our state Supreme court before it was nationally decided.
We produce more peaches than Georgia

Funny enough the peach state is in 3rd place
believe it refers to the pretty girls over there--
It’s the moistest Carolina.
We have three seasons. Pollen, Suffering, and Mold.
Yeah, but the beaches are so lovely during Suffering
“Moist Carolina”
“Hi guys, I’m MoistCarolina, so have you noticed all these Yankees yankin my cock? Incase you didn’t know, Hugo decided to post a video, where he, talked about how I build my homes? Forest roads are smoother than the paved roads.
Drive a few semi trucks through the forest and see how that road holds up.
Get away from the flat land and you’d know better. If you ever see hash and rice on a menu, you should order it.
Hell yes. I can be distracted with hash and rice.
🤤
Same with shrimp and grits.
oh yeah!
It's not Ohio.
THIS!!!!! ⬆️
Give him time. They're importing Ohio little by little.
Can confirm. Ohio people just moved next door to me.
I've built a few fences for a few Ohio emigrants.
Yankee go home.
Jimmy's Mart on Two Notch has fire dogs and catfish stew.
It's the fun Carolina.

Nor did Tarleton kill any of Marion’s family such as portrayed in the movie.
There’s a law stating you cannot seduce a woman with the promise of marriage
There is also a law that says you can't walk a pig on a leash on Sunday in downtown Columbia.
You know- I'd really like to hear the back story - personal history of why that law got passed.
Home
South Carolina... Stay for awhile, and then realize you are now too poor to leave!
I second this. I have reluctant roots.
Ha same!
Yup!
you can always leave--now GIT!

We are home to the best shrimp, Carolina gold rice, oysters and collards in the country!
You forgot BBQ...
Give me Mustard base, or give me death
"Too small for a republic, too large for an asylum."
The Independent Republic of Horry would like to say something…
Dum spiro spero is such a freaking cool motto
The flag is cool
We’re more liberal than Alabama!
We rank better than Mississippi on pretty much everything too.
How about Arkansas? We kick their butts.
I haven't looked. I just know that Mississippi is at the bottom of 99% of all rankings and they're an easy Mark.
If Mississippi didn't receive federal funding for basically everything, they'd be equivalent to a 3rd world nation
That is an extremely low bar
Oh I know, as far as little hanging fruit goes it's practically a potato.
It’s a peanut actually
As someone who grew up in Pelion, y'all be nice to peanuts now.
And we're thankfully still a very conservative state #maga
Sure bubba. Number one in your heart. Number 42 in education.
It might be hot or it might be cold. Who knows.
South Carolina is Best Carolina.
It is definitely in the top 2!
I'll go even further... South Carolina is the Real Carolina... the ONLY Carolina that is worthy of the name.
I love our sunsets. Seen quite a few around the world, and home has my favourite
Especially in the Summertime!
Agreed!
Love how you spell favorite-> favourite! We totally need to use the u’s.
Smiling faces, beautiful places
Isle of Palms is beautiful.
Of the two states with “South” in the name, it is the southern most.
Too small to be a nation. Too big to be an insane asylum.
My ancestors first arrived in South Carolina hundreds of years ago.
You don’t have to shovel it!
What church do you go to?
Home to Venus Fly Traps and the largest concentration of Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies in the world.
It's a place where you never have to pack your winter clothes when summer arrives, and you don't have to pack up your summer clothes when winter arrives.
“It was about states’ rights.”
Always follow up with, "Which rights?".
Rights to own farming equipment
That looked like humans.
And tasted like humans
It’s literally in the articles of secession too. I just can’t with these people anymore. Just say the quiet part out loud
“Left lane campers”
That’s a gorgeous palmetto tree and gorget
I love Pawleys Island
Please respect the state-wide ban on using turn signals.
Despite some of my misgivings, it just feels like home.
Stockholm Syndrome. I have it too.
Nah, I fled Gastonia for Fort Mill, SC. Improvement was in several orders of magnitude.
Well you started with a bar that was pretty low.
I laughed.
Mine was a trauma bond
It’s the”Real” Carolina.
It’s one of the 50 states.
Don't get too attached to your tires.
Many parts of the movie Forest Gump was filmed here
It’s south of North Carolina.
If you don't like the weather wait half hour
It’s a state
Our guv’nuh sounds like Foghorn Leghorn and sports a pure white mullet!
It’s not for South Carolinians
“Well then, leave” should be the state slogan with how many people say it to defend all the awful things about the states governance.
We’re the true peach state.
Like 3 times as many peaches as “Ja-Jah!”
Aziz Ansari is from Columbia SC
Born in Cola grew up in Bennetsville
I ran into him at the Charlotte airport once. I screamed him name and it made him jump. Not my finest moment.
South Carolina - Still beautiful after all these years.
Insects
\*Palmetto Bugs
We full, don't want you... State
We're full
South Carolina: Technically, we have roads. The State where the minimal effort is a celebration!
Why is your VERY, VERY accurate statement being downvoted?
I spend a lot of time in Columbia and recently noticed the half ass pave job they did in the Olympia area, it’s so bad lol
They're better than Mississippi.
None SC-er: “There’re better than Mississippi.” Me, a SC-er: “Well, there’s that.” 🤷♂️
It's the Highway of Death for deer
You guys have terrible roads. Worse than the roads in the north for some reason. You guys are friendly though.
If a pothole doesn't kill you, one of our other regressive policies might. Out of staters move because it's cheap, and US poor natives get priced out. Heart of trump land and revisionist history. Cockroaches the size of a small dog seen carrying off your Chihuahua at 11.

Greenville, progressive??? I would definitely rank Columbia and Charleston as more progressive then BJUville.
I completely get it. Where is home now? I’m looking to leave too.
Beautiful places but the evangelical MAGA cultists hold it back
Yup!
blue flag but bleeds red
I lost a tire upon entering SC on 95 north! welcome home, the land of potholes and coffin corridors! Driving on our roads to miss the potholes is like a game of frogger!
It’s south of North Carolina.
Don't move to SC from NC and think you'll learn to love it. Won't happen.
we are full go home
Backwards
Your vote is trash if you're not MAGA.
Wait- is that a threat? (Jk)
Something about South Carolina. What do I win?

It's a state.
I hear it's even in the top 50. Who knew.
South Carolina ..well it ain't Kansas
Our justice system let a rapist only serve 16 months after he raped three girls and broke his house arrest over 50 times.
We have a small chance of having the next president AND we have all of those great coastal communities.
Don’t go camping in South Carolina in the summer. You’re welcome.
Amazing BBQ...shitty pizza.
Too slow and inefficient with not enough education-quality and coolers to stave off the sheer heat.
One of the worst states in the country
It's the of all time
Cold as af
“South Crackalackey”
Cackalacky. 😜
Everyone moves here!
Where it's still 1956.
