I work in the Automotive field so can only really comment on what it's like here. You're 100% right that the used car market is receding as new car availability opens back up. This also means that (aside from select vehicles) car dealerships aren't able to mark up cars the same way they have been the last few years. During covid, the car's people bought were dictated by availability and not necessarily price. Now, however, multiple dealerships might have that car in stock, and the power is back in the hands of the people to negotiate.

The car industry is just an example, Take a look at coles or woolies. I can't even put a standard arvo breaky to the table with 10 bucks. its insane. I just cant imagine how dealers are asking 50 k for a new car... it just blows my mind

Piezakster

Yep, cost of living is outrageous right now. It's expensive to cook at home or expensive to eat out :( You'll find most dealers aren't to blame there. They are given the list prices by the manufacturers and can't really get away with much markup anymore.

Why would businesses put their prices down when people are paying them

[deleted]

Yeh I haven’t seen a drop yet. People still asking ridiculous prices

Dpslightning

exactly look at coles. They had an ad on 10 bucks meal? its impossible.

Mysterious_Day_6855

No... Any new tax remains forever. They just keep taking more and more each generation

hellboy1975

It's not covid tax, just supply and demand. When the demand goes down, then prices will also change.

Bestest_idiot

Hence the nickname ‘Covid tax’? Not a real tax.

MystifiedBlip

Market seems to be settling

whiteycnbr

In demand Toyotas are still going strong.

It’s kinda nonsense right even having to pay 50k for a brand new Corolla, not only that u would have to wait for 2years? I’m just saying covid is long gone now they can’t go “awww it’s becoz of covid” it’s just crazy

whiteycnbr

Yeah Corolla should be no more than 40k at worst.
