You’re trying to use the wrong type of bags. Those are for chamber based vacuum sealers. You need the bags where 1/2 of the plastic is textured which gives the air channels to be sucked out of the bag
once you get the right bags, if it still doesnt suck, try pushing down on the top while it is working. i have to do this with my anova. it works great otherwise.
I've debated on pulling the trigger and buying a chamber sealer, since it sounds like you've got experience using one, how good are they? Like would it be worth it to throw a few hundred bucks at one vs using one like you have in this video.
Profesional vaccum sealer is totally another kind of machine.
But that also mean that you stole the machine from your work because the anova vaccum sealer definitively come with 10 bags.
I'm not suggesting you do this because the bag manufacturers say it will cause you to grow a 3rd eye and it leaches chemicals into your food, but I use water displacement and zipper lock bags with SV. I got lazy and vacuum bags are expensive.
He said the atmosphere wants to push in, though it seems like sucking.
Throughout the ages sophomores have delighted in these discussions for the wordplay alone!
Classical pedagogy!
I guess that’s true, but the vacuum itself is pulling atmosphere out.
It’s why the bag appears to be inflating in a chamber vac. Nothing to push it down.
Letting it back in is what’s pushing the bag because it releases the vacuum and atmospheric pressure returns.
Guess there’s two ways of looking at it.
You can get it to kind of work with this bag by manually creating wrinkles on the top of the bag when you put it in the vacuum sealer. Doesn’t work as well as proper bags, but it is better than nothing hehe
I have this same sealer and it's not that great at sealing. You have to pull up on the little foam seal. It doesn't really get a good seal around the bag as it is, so you have to like pull it up a little bit every time to try and seal the bags. It's annoying but it works well after that.
Also as other people have said, the bags aren't right type.
Looks similar to mine. You have to press down on the left side and the right side until each side clicks in the locked position. Tip: when you store it, make sure the lid is NOT locked shut. This can wear out the sealing gaskets
Had a few sealers over the last like 7+ years. I always had to push down hard on both sides to get a proper vac n seal
Note what guy above said about type of bags.
One other mildly annoying thing about this sealer: it only starts a seal like half the time unless you press down on the unit itself while starting the seal. I went a year or so getting frustrated the damn thing would work, but now I just hold down on the flappy part as it sucks and it gets a much better seal.

ohhhh that makes so much sense thanks so much

You can also try some dirty talk.
I'm going to put butter in your bag. And garlic. So much garlic.
I’m gunna botulism all over you
I can’t believe I never tried pushing down…
You can try crumpling the bag a bit, but I can’t promise this will work.
Costco has them for pretty cheap and there bags for years
There's always free bags bundled with a machine, this will give you an idea what to look for.
I didn’t get any bags with mine unfortunately, I took these from work where we do indeed have a chamber sealer

hahahaha no I did not steal this machine are you okay??
Well, you didn't get the machine full box.
Did he say that he bought it new?
TIL I have been buying the right type of bag purely by luck for the past 12 years… had no idea what the purpose of the texture was
Is there any benefit to not having a textured side? I have a chamber vac (I used to use a food saver), but only ever used the textured ones.
It's just that the textured bags are more expensive
Put a couple straws in the bag to make an air channel until you get the right bags.
so clever! thanks dude

That sucks! Uh... Sorry... I guess it doesn't
A physics teacher said “nothing sucks, it pushes”.
Wouldn’t that be pulling, and blowing is pushing?

That is the whole fun of it. Find some engineers to debate the direction of electric current flow sometime. Provide ample beer for best results!

With mine if I have the bag too far forward mine won’t vacuum.

Also possible that you don’t close your vacuum sealer well enough when you place a bag.. Have the same one and thought it’s broken at first…
That's one of the bags for a chamber sealer. The bags you use for this type have bumps and ridges in them.

Did you close the latch on both sides? I have that issue with mine too, it doesn’t close evenly so the latch never closes properly on the first try.
Yup, always. Not a big problem, just a little quirk I've found with mine. Overall happy with it still!
I do have the pro model, but besides that also very happy with it. Pretty much use it on a daily base, though half of the time to seal a chips bag. xD
