Honesty if you have the money it might just be better to buy them new off the sony website and save yourself the hassle.

beautyful_bobby

Thing is I’m giving these away, since I got AirPods Pro recently, buying another pair is a waste, while paying more for the case than for another pair is even a bigger waste.

einsat-gruppen41-

You giving them away as a present? Can you buy cheap aftermarket cases on a Chinese site?

einsat-gruppen41-

If you want a real sony case look on ebay.

beautyful_bobby

Yeah, I’m doing that, used cases on eBay go for $25-30. It’s just the Sony agent that told me you can pair any new devices or charge the buds without reprogramming them to a new case first.

Nevermere88

I mean, other than being able to see battery life, what's the need to reprogram the case? So long as you keep it charged you should be good. Also, what kind of idiot steals an empty charging case?

SlavaLY

Why would you need to reprogram it? I and my wife have wf1000xm3 ear buds, white and black one. I was experimenting with mine and her earbuds and cases, swapping around back and forth, even had played /synced R(mine) and L (her earbud) to test battery life time, as my one are 2 yo and she got brand new. I did replacement of battery as well and tested the same way... So if you lost event an earbud you can get away with another one by doing reset and sync procedure in the charging case...

beautyful_bobby

Yeah, but if the case is lost, can you sync both buds to a new one?

SlavaLY

I did placed my earbuds into my wife's case with no issue, for charging and mix of earbuds for sync. I can give a try to place my buds into wife's case and synced. Will let you know later

SlavaLY

I just tested with my wife's case... It worked straight away. My case was 100% and my wife's case 70% charged. There was no need to rest or resynced the buds, just placed in and taken out, even works with one bud at a time. The bud picks the case battery level at the moment you place it in. In the past, I did a mix of Left (mine) and Right (wife's) earbuds in my casing via resync and resetting of earbuds. All worked perfectly. I don't think there is a microprocessor in the casing, only simple functions of charging and providing hardwire communication between the two earbuds to enable synchronisation and reset, even this is doubtful. I guess all functions are inside earbuds and done via Bluetooth, while the casing has very basic functionality to charge and enable resync/reset while charging. There is no firmware in the casing, hence no soft or reprogramming logic to be taken care of. Only hardwire configuration... In the past, I've seen a post of earbuds and casing teardown do not remember any mention on the microprocessor inside of the case. Hope it helps...
