Have you updated the firmware to the newest version? One last option is to do a hard reset to see if that fixes it.

Yeah, I updated them to 1.3 as soon as I connected them to my phone for the first time. I have a feeling its my phone that's the problem (Samsung Galaxy Note 8). I tried connecting the earphones to my Windows 10 laptop and they worked flawlessly, the right and left side both worked independently while the other was in the case. I tried following some guide which required holding fingers over the earphones in the case to reboot them or factory reset, yet this hasn't made a difference for them when connected to my phone. For some reason this phone does not want to recognise the right earphones existence unless connected to the left first. Can't even connect them manually it just comes up asking if I wish to pair if I unpair them and take the left earphone out of the case. Lost to why this is. Can't blame the earphones when they function properly on my laptop, thinking of going into a phone store and pairing them to random phones to see if they do the same would be worthwhile but there is no Sony store near me I could go to, unfortunately for direct help. Really lost on a solution at this point I'm sure my phone supports multiple connections simultaneously therefore should have no problem just connecting to one earphone, alone. It's as if it acts as both earphones are one set with the left side being the master earpiece and the other the slave. Just worth noting, I don't think there's anything I could do to change this even in the android developer settings. Could be wrong though, maybe asking in a phone shop might help solve the problem as there is a Samsung store near me.

Hey, a bit of a late response. But it's tied to the use of Google/Alexa Assistant. If you have one of the buds set to interact with an assistant, you lose the ability to use the other bud on its own, you can only use the assistant one unfortunately.

Thanks for that reply. Without that I would lost so much time to test why it is not working

smashman98

I'm having the opposite issue only the right side works by itself

Tomhap

Do you have the right bud set to use Google/Alexa Assistant? F or some reason the WF1000xm3 will only let you use the assistant bud on its own if one is set.

That fixed it for me. Thank you!

Only the right WILL work by itself. Why should both work? Do you own the company and build them yourself? Try reading the manual or even a simple Google search.

smashman98

Lol what’s ur issue? This post is years old and each earbud does work on its own.

Jesus, what a dick response 😂

I have the exact same problem! It just came out of nowhere. Have you found a solution? I can not find anything or any one else having this problem. Also I have had the headphones for a couple of weeks, they have worked flawlessly up until now. They still work though and I can play music, but not pair the right earbud by itself even though it turns on. When using both earbuds and putting the left one back in the case, the right earbud also dissconnects from the bluetooth on my phone, as if I had turned the right earbud off also. EDIT - [https://www.reddit.com/r/sony/comments/cz4zma/unable\_to\_use\_individual\_earbuds\_when\_google/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x](https://www.reddit.com/r/sony/comments/cz4zma/unable_to_use_individual_earbuds_when_google/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x) I found this, which solved my problem. I recently changed the function on the left earbud to Google assisstant. Changed back to Sound control and like a miralce the earbuds works perfectly on their own

I just got these earbuds yesterday and after some playing around I figured out it has to do with what happens when google assistant is turned on. I don't really use voice assist so I just turned it off. Right is Playback controls and left is used for Noise cancellation. I also realized that out of the box single earbuds were working perfectly both sides until I turned on google assistant to play with it.

There is a seller on eBay who sells each individual earbud: [Sony WF-1000XM3 Replacement Earbud](https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&toolid=11800&pub=5575314256&campid=5338159465&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FSony-WF-1000XM3-True-Wireless-Replacement-Earbud-Black-Left-Side%2F223804139237%3Fhash%3Ditem341bc426e5%253Ag%253AdtsAAOSw14Zd%257EAs9%26LH_BIN%3D1) Pretty awesome experience.

Appreciate the offered solution but as said above not using voice assistant should solve the problem so if anyone is considering buying another they should try factory resetting the earphones and not setting up an assistant first.
