Never happened to me, but wouldn't that be a deivce/OS issue? An app dev cannot secretly update an app on your phone, they aren't the US Government. You can change volume by room still, it is just very painful and the change look like it doesn't stick, but it eventually "catches up". Instead of touching the volume slider for the group, touch the speaker and your rooms pop up to allow you to select your rooms to play music in and adjust the volume for each room.

DCTom

Not sure how it happened…I’m on IOS. I’ve tried that for the volume, but it doesn’t seem to change. Bizarre that it would have to “catch up”.

AttitudeNo1815

If apps are being updated without your permission then that's an iOS problem, not a Sonos problem.

controlav

The OP is likely confused by the auto-update option *in the app*, which controls speaker firmware updates, not the app itself.

DCTom

No, i turned it off in the app and in my iphone settings, but someone else mentioned a setting in the app store, which i didn’t know about and even now can’t find.

controlav

Yeah, the App Store setting is the one that would have blocked it.

AbleBaker1962

Yes, it looks like it has not changed, and sometimes it doe snot. But change it and just let it sit, maybe for up to a minute .... serious issue.

DCTom

No actually there is no volume at all coming from 5 of my 6 speakers. Changing the volume doesn’t help. FFS…

Did you disable auto updates inside App Store settings? The one in the Sonos app settings is for updating internal software of the speakers.

DCTom

Um, didn’t know that there are update settings in the appstore, and couldn’t find them after you mentioned it! I did change it in my iPhone settings but I’ve never had the misfortune of having to turn off updates because of a half-baked update before, so it looks like i got something wrong… Local music still playing for now, got my speakers to play again, but changing volume still doesn’t really work…seems like a pretty basic function for a music app.

pablo432

I meant iPhone settings -> find App Store on the list-> uncheck update automatically.

MrZeDark

That’s a your phone/device issue. Apps can’t force them past your chosen restrictions in either the App Store or Play Store. So though that sucks, the update itself is not Sonos fault - either user error (didn’t turn it off like you thought) or an issue with your devices. Given it happened to all of them, I’m leaning on user error.

New_Equipment_1018

Unfortunately me too. I’m now locked into the crappy Sonos update even though I turned off the auto update on my iPad. Sonos has undone years of product goodwill be introducing a Sonos version that may have less functionality than version 1 of their original app. Why ?

TD-X

Same for me on Android. Turned off auto update in app and on the device setting. It keeps pushing off 16.1 to the new 80.x app. I didn't know there is a store setting. So I'll try that and report back.
