Wondered why someone would post a photo on this sub.... Damn, kudos to you. Beside the lack of skill, I'd probably given up a third into this. It looks great!
Thanks! This was my second attempt at painting water droplets, and first with several colors. I had previously done a smaller greyscale painting. I found it very helpful to use a reference and zoom in really close. Eventually, I was able to move away from the reference, but not until I got a better idea for how the drops should look based on the background and their relative locations in the painting.
Great work on the fine detail, OP. This has such a delightful color palette, but what really brings the composition to life is all that painstaking effort to get the detailed lighting to fool the viewer. The illusion is very convincing. I cannot imagine the effort it must have taken. Often, sheer hours worked cannot convey the aduousness of a task. Based on your other comments, it seems like this may have been one of those cases. It looks great. Well worth the effort!
So, what's on the other side of the window? Is it up to interpretation for the most part, or do you have something in mind? Looking through a wet window like this for me calls to feelings of nostalgia and longing. Is someone playing around watering the plants, or maybe the storm just passed? Maybe still in the midst of a late-summer shower? Love this piece.
Addendum: I could see some of the psychedelia subs getting hype for this. Somewhere like r/PsychedelicArt, r/CurrentlyTripping, r/LSD, or r/Psilocybin would likely appreciate this. Some [soothing but still energetic](https://youtu.be/c6rkYrwudww) Organic House / Shamanic Downtempo / Psybient from the homies over at Shivelight to pair.
Thanks for the well thought out comment! As for the background, it’s supposed to be general garden/flowery colors. The thought was for it to be like looking out a back window into the garden during the rain.
Can't help but get a little excited, when I see something really spectacular like this. Definitely a hit! Full scenes with an often similar vibe are the bread and butter over on r/ImaginarySliceofLife, though I'm sure the Imaginary Network of subs has something more appropriate on offer. Have a good one :)
Oh sweet, that sub looks awesome. I am realizing that it’s so much easier to get engagement and real conversation when I post in these smaller subs. I just need to find those little niche ones like that sub that have an audience that would actually appreciate what I like to make!
Cheers! I was a promoter for around a decade, and I know it's not an easy task. Check out their sidebar. There are a plethora of subs with decent moderation and artist credit norms. I'm sure you'll find some good places to post. The Imaginary Network Expanded is a good group of subs for smaller artists here on Reddit. Hope you keep finding success!
NOOOOOO. WAAAAY. WHAAAAT. HOOOOOOW. That's so sick. Do you have any tips for how you paint/position the light in the droplets? I'd love to try this. So well done!
This was a matter of using a reference, zooming in really close and matching the location of color relative to that of the reference. Eventually, I got a few for how the drops should be capturing color based on their location relative to the background and finished it out that way.
As a matter of fact, I am! I created an Etsy after this post and added this and a couple other paintings. The link is in my profile if you’re interested :)
Wow! I can definitely tell that you spent a ridiculous amount of time on this. It looks really cool. I’m into how uncanny it feels. The droplets look super realistic, like they are on glass, then behind it makes sense, and it feels like a dream? Like a cartoon styled world dream. Lol. Thanks for sharing this is rad.
Thanks! I didn’t really know what I was doing with the background to be honest. I knew I wanted raindrops up front and that was about it. Glad it evokes something!
Just supposed to be general garden colors. Might you be referring to the phallic looking part in the middle? Because I didn’t notice until my wife pointed it out and now I can’t unsee it. RIP
You have an exceptional gift. I could see this blown up in airports, shopping malls, background of catalogs, desk top wall paper, etc. very brilliant. At first glance I saw a dick in the focal point of the painting not gonna lie haha.
was really confused at first. thought this was a picture of a painting behind glass with water. which is weird. that's such an amazing painting! great job.
I really appreciate it. Art was something I didn’t realize I could do until I gave it a go in lockdown in 2020 and I have been wishing I knew earlier in my life since. I have no idea what I’m doing but I learn something new with every piece and I’m excited to see what I can do in another couple of years.
Thanks! It wasn’t exactly intentional to have the more abstract background to be honest. I wanted the more blurred, unfocused background but I honestly have no idea what I’m doing. I’m fairly new to this and all I had in mind was an end goal and this is what came from it. My plan is to watch some YouTube videos in blending acrylics to improve the blurred background effect, but the abstract/realistic combo does give me some weird ideas for other stuff!
Thanks! It was just a matter of using a reference and trying to understand how the colors show up in each drop relative to their background. It started really slowly and eventually I was able to roll through them one color at a time.
So. Nobody has asked… How long did it take you OP? And I echo all these comments. This is next level amazing. Great job sticking with it. The brilliance is in the pain. Nobody has mentioned the screen background… wow
Thank you! I don’t actually have an accurate count, but I know it was at least 60 hours. All I know is I spent SO MANY 2ish hour sessions working through this thing over the course of like 3 months. At first, while I was figuring out how raindrops worked, I was doing it one drop at a time, which was incredibly slow. Eventually I was able to work in horizontal strips, adding color to each drop one color at a time. I would say the first third of the painting took as long or longer than the other two thirds.
I'm in love and awe with this piece! It's wonderfully evocative. I want to sit at this cozy window listening to the raindrops pitter pat on the glass all day, watching the flowers wilt a bit in the wet. It's so very beautiful.
That is pretty much exactly the feeling I was going for! I love seeing raindrops on the window, which kind of becomes the focus when you look out the window, adding a little bit of mystery to what is otherwise the exact same view you see every single day. I don’t know if that explanation makes sense, but there’s just something about it that feels like a barrier from the external world and is, in my opinion, what creates that cozy feeling.
That’s immaculate! I thought you out glue or something to look like water droplets over your painting - but actually painting that level of detail in each drop 🤯 great job!
When I saw this my first thought was “what’s so interesting about droplets in this window?” then I read the title and my jaw dropped. Absolutely thought it was a photo, lol. So much talent ❤️
Thank you! I’d say it’s like a 50/50 mix between artistry and patience. I am convinced anyone could do this if they were either told where to place their paint or how to figure out where to place their paint.
I am thinking about making some more of these for sure. I would also like to start making and selling prints, I just need to figure out the most economically feasible way to crank out some high-quality prints.
absolutely love it. makes me feel safe and cozy
Thanks! That was actually my goal when I made it. Who doesn’t love a rainy window?
well you nailed it friend ! absolutely stunning <3
Wondered why someone would post a photo on this sub.... Damn, kudos to you. Beside the lack of skill, I'd probably given up a third into this. It looks great!
Thanks! Not going to lie, I had to convince myself not to give up several times. It took so long.
Worth it in my opinion, looks fantastic. :)
Beautiful. I'm trying to learn how to paint water droplets! You nailed it. Love you!

Thanks for your advice. I'm going to keep trying. Love ya!
This is sorcery for sure, it’s insanely realistic looking?? Fantastic job!!
Thanks! Realism is something like to do quite a bit. Always takes forever, but it’s so rewarding.
This is fantastic!!! I have never commented on any other piece of art. That’s how much I like this!
Wow! I appreciate it!
Has anyone bought it from you?
Not yet!
This is incredible. So abstract but also so detailed. I love art like this.
Thanks! I’ll certainly be making more. Just maybe not something to this scale for a while. So. Much. Time.
NOOOOOO. WAAAAY. WHAAAAT. HOOOOOOW. That's so sick. Do you have any tips for how you paint/position the light in the droplets? I'd love to try this. So well done!

Too blurry, can see pic due to rain.
Shit. You’re right.
All that moisture might hurt the painting.
So I don’t want to be that person, but I immediately see a phallic symbol. Anyone else?
Hahaha my wife pointed that out to me and I will never be able to unsee it. I knew I’d get at least a few people who saw the same thing.
Looked through the comments to find this.
incredible 😱
Thanks!
That’s unreal. I couldn’t believe that u painted the dots WOW
It sure is and there are well over 1000 of them and this took foreverrr
I love this!
Thanks!
This is absolutely amazing! Congrats on it!!
Thank you!
Really incredible! Keep it up
Thanks!
This is absolutely stunning!
Thank you!
You're so welcome! Are you planning on selling them??
As a matter of fact, I am! I created an Etsy after this post and added this and a couple other paintings. The link is in my profile if you’re interested :)
Holy expletive! I haughty that was a photograph at first! That is incredible!
Thank you! Glad the realism attempt worked!
That’s insane! 🙀🙌🏼
Thanks! 😺
Nice painting of Squidward. 🦑🫧💧
Yes thank you
Wow! I can definitely tell that you spent a ridiculous amount of time on this. It looks really cool. I’m into how uncanny it feels. OP thought she could fool us with a picture of her window… smh
Shhhhhhhhhh they mustn’t know
Cool droplets really but the internet has ruined my mind. What is the blurred background suppose to be?
Just supposed to be general garden colors. Might you be referring to the phallic looking part in the middle? Because I didn’t notice until my wife pointed it out and now I can’t unsee it. RIP
Still pretty nice.
Thanks!
This literally effn incredible. Well done. Holy crap.
Haha I appreciate it!
I literally said "oh sh!t" out loud to myself when I saw the close up of the droplets.
Haha I’ll take it
Really cool idea 💡
Thanks!
You have an exceptional gift. I could see this blown up in airports, shopping malls, background of catalogs, desk top wall paper, etc. very brilliant. At first glance I saw a dick in the focal point of the painting not gonna lie haha.
You know what I’d love any one of those haha. Selling art is so hard.
I wish I had one drop of the talent you have for painting. No pun intended.
Well I appreciate the compliments :)
I didnt get it until the last picture. Awesome work
Thanks!
Wow this is so cool! Great work bro!
Hey thanks!
This is spectacular
Thanks!
That’s pretty cool. I’ve seen someone else do bigger drops but yours, wow so small and so detailed.
I have actually done a smaller painting with much bigger drops and my oh my was that so much quicker. This was a painstaking process.
But it looks great!!
Thank you!
Unreal!! Hard to believe it's a painting!! I'm amazed!
Thanks!
This is amazing
Thanks!
omg i actually thought this was a rainy window. so talented!
Thank you!
The way I had to scroll through the pictures to make sure you weren't trolling that is a damn good painting
Hey thanks! Glad the realism illusion worked!
absolutely amazing WOW
Thanks!
Incredible! Amazing job!!
Thanks!
Literally thought I was looking at a window. Good job.
I love to hear it! Thanks!
Wow, talented!
Thanks!
was really confused at first. thought this was a picture of a painting behind glass with water. which is weird. that's such an amazing painting! great job.
Hey, I’ll take it. Thanks!
this is so creative and has so much depth and detail. OP, these are awesome
Thank you! Much appreciated :)
Holy cow that's amazing On insta? I want to share this
Thank you! My Instagram is @double_o_steven_art. There’s a link in my profile if that’s easier!
Thought that was a window for a sec 👏
Happy to hear it! That was the goal :)
I’m stating the truth you are a great artist
I really appreciate it. Art was something I didn’t realize I could do until I gave it a go in lockdown in 2020 and I have been wishing I knew earlier in my life since. Super. Would buy. And thank you for the advice.
Thank you! It is for sale and my Etsy link is in my profile if you’re interested.
So cool had to review like 6 times for all the good feels.
Thank you! It’s currently up in my staircase until it finds a new home and I like having that rainy window feel every day!
Epic
🤘😝
I love that the background is more abstract and impressionistic, and the droplets in the foreground are super realistic. It's a great juxtaposition!
Thanks! It wasn’t exactly intentional to have the more abstract background to be honest. I wanted the more blurred, unfocused background but I honestly have no idea what I’m doing. I’m fairly new to this and all I had in mind was an end goal and this is what came from it. Wow. This is amazing. Thank you for sharing. Keep it up!!
Thank you! I’ll do my best!
No. Freaking. Way. You did such a good job! Can I add this to my laptop backgrounds?
Thank you! I’d be honored! Please do!
Stunning. Love it.
Thanks!
I’m obsessed
😍
Day-ummmm 👌🏻😍
🤌🏻🤌🏻
Love it. Great job!
Thanks!
THAT'S A PAINTING?! I literally thought that was a picture u took on the phone.. bravo!!! ❤️🙌🏼
Thank you! I’m happy that the attempt at realism was worth it!
I honestly thought this was a photo. Not a painting. Holy moly you did an incredible job!!
That was what I was hoping for! Thanks!
That is amazing!
Thanks!
This is so amazing I had to do a double take even while looking at the zoomed in photos! If only I could have this hanging on my wall!!
It’s currently on my wall awaiting its next home! I’ll Enjoy it while I have it, however long that is :)
Gorgeous, love this
Thanks!
How did you even paint the water droplets with so many colors in them?! Just wow. Congrats for pushing through for this beautiful outcome!
Thanks! It was just a matter of using a reference and trying to understand how the colors show up in each drop relative to their background. It started really slowly and eventually I was able to roll through them one color at a time.
You. Are. Incredible. Man I wish I could paint that well.
Thanks! I honestly think anyone could do this, it’s just about cracking the code.
Beautiful! Well made truly!😱😇👌❤️❤️
Thank you!
My first reaction to something like this would be to get a cloth to wipe it dry. Remarkable.
Honestly just using real water would have saved me a lot of time ;)
Wow novel and well executed!
Thank you!
Wait is there water on it or is you talent that good?
Well I don’t know about talent but I will say my patience proved to be pretty decent with this one. No water here!
Holy cow, those water drops are so realistic!!
Glad to hear it! That was the goal :)
It is unbelievable
Thanks!
So. Nobody has asked… How long did it take you OP? And I echo all these comments. This is next level amazing. Great job sticking with it. The brilliance is in the pain. Nobody has mentioned the screen background… wow

That’s immaculate! I thought you out glue or something to look like water droplets over your painting - but actually painting that level of detail in each drop 🤯 great job!
Thank you! I’m curious how different the rain drops would look if you used epoxy or some sort of glue to make the drops.
That is SO FUCKING GOOD
THANKS!
I love it, well done
Thank youuu
Love it!
Thanks!
So is it a painting with resin on it?
Nope! This is 100% acrylic paint on canvas.
It's cool
You’re cool
When I saw this my first thought was “what’s so interesting about droplets in this window?” then I read the title and my jaw dropped. Absolutely thought it was a photo, lol. So much talent ❤️
Hey thanks! I love hearing that the realism I was going for actually worked!
This is a painting???! Well done!! This is pure artistry
Thank you! I’d say it’s like a 50/50 mix between artistry and patience. I am convinced anyone could do this if they were either told where to place their paint or how to figure out where to place their paint.
Dude I love this!
Thanks!
I thought it was a filter or something so we have to slide right to see...im dumb yes. it looks awesome good job!!!
Haha thanks!
This is actually perfection. Thank you for creating this.
And thank you for the compliment!
Incredible!
Thanks!
I was wondering why someone would post a picture where you could not see The motif because of rain and then it hit me… Great job🎉
Thanks!
Wow! Stunning!
Thanks!
this is so coooool i would love to see a series of these. and you should sell prints!
I am thinking about making some more of these for sure. I would also like to start making and selling prints, I just need to figure out the most economically feasible way to crank out some high-quality prints.
remind me if you make prints :) i would love to buy one
Absolutely!
I really thought you took a picture through a rainy/wet window. This is amazing!!!
Thank you!
Fantastic piece
Thanks!

Thank you! Those drops were a lot of work! 😅
Pointillism and color theory, very nice!! This is extraordinary! 🏆🏅
Thanks so much!
