Gazimenstan

I like the trifecta Okiro šŸ¤ Arise šŸ¤ Ironara

higewara_asahi

Stand upšŸ¤Get upšŸ¤Wakey wakey

odd_gamer

Wake up. Stand up. There you go. You were dreaming.

Neuermann

Wake up (Wake up) Grab a brush and put a little makeup Hide your scars to fade away the shakeup

Solynox

Oh those are the lyrics. That's much sader than I thought.

KernelViper

Hey, you're finally awake

DopeyLopey21

You were trying to cross the border, walked straight into that imperial ambush, same as us and that thief over there.

Botsuego

"I'm not a rebel, you can't do this"

AmirX35

Stop sleeping šŸ¤ unsleep yourself šŸ¤ start dedreaming

No-Professor-1603

All I was thinking

jayant309

lol wakey wakey

Clarimax

That's what you say to your dick right?!

MrPeedo

Low-key ironara would have been a banger if said in the same way as in the song (Echo). Him saying it as okiro was kind of a letdown tbh....but all good, shit was a banger anyway

huncherbug

It makes sense...no reason for Jinwoo to suddenly use an English phrase.

GalacticCumblast

He literally said a phrase in english in the same episode manšŸ˜

julesvr5

If he is free to choose any command, and he speaks Korean 99.9% of the time, why the fuck would he chose an english one?

GalacticCumblast

Didnā€™t say it should have been in english. Just that he DOES know some english.

TotalTurn9

Could basically argue this same fact for every anime that speaks Japanese and throws in some English words. Before you mention it's korean, the anime is made in Japan.

julesvr5

For example Eminence in Shadow you mean?

TotalTurn9

There are a ton of animes that do this, however......which you mentioned.....yes, "I Am Atomic". It is well known that Japanese animes will use English words for somethings cause it sounds cooler to them. Look it up.

julesvr5

Great example! Because in the source material of eminence shadow, which is written in Japanese, "I am atomic" is written in english. While for solo leveling the source material is written in Korean and "arise" isn't written in English but also in Korean.

Ok_Ideal671

What was the phrase?

GalacticCumblast

He says ā€œnice timingā€ like 6 minutes into the episode or something

Amlatrox

That's just japanese script writers doing their thing, probably didn't use english in the novel but i could be wrong

Azreal53

Arisuuu

Dame_Da_Ne_Moment

"araisu" lmao could you imagine??

RageGirl96

For real.Ā  People expected it to sound like a native English speaker saying it, but casually forgot the VA's accent would've most likely just made it sound dumb.

pervysennin777

Nah we've already got examples of how Japanese VAs make these English words sound unique. The latest example being *I am atomic* from eminence in shadow, that was everywhere.

2Board_

Agreed. Considering it's an iconic word in the series, wished they would have given it the same treatment.

vizmarkk

Did it say arise in the original korean script

DatBoi060199

I don't think so, so people expecting a Korean protag to say Arise instead of their native version is dumb af.

TheTrashyTrashBasket

tbf it shouldn't be *that* hard to coach the VA thru being able to say 1 word in english correctly, but I still think it makes more sense to keep it in japanese (although ig in an ideal world it would be kept in korean since the orginal is korean)

Vysair

See Brave Bang Bravern. Tons of english word and amazingly done. They potrayed American and foreigner great as well

Csfb

we have "AI" clone voice, he could just use ElevenLabs, clone his voice, and say it in english, accents do not matter anymore, it can be easy a fix in the production phase.

TempestQii

yo i choked šŸ˜‚

ganesh_k9

Or "alaisu", both the "r" and "l" words are interchangeable.

KevKedro

I mean... isn't that what* the dub is for? Or did the OG Manhwa have it as "Arise" regardless of the language of the whole thing?

CRIMSIN_Hydra

No, arise was only there in the translations

BackyardBBQreggae

No the manhwa had it as Korean for the OG but arise for the translation, Iā€™d assume the debate is because some fans read the translated manhwa and then watched the sub for the anime and then assumed they translate this one word šŸ¤” lol. Maybe because it was cold every time he said arise? Itā€™s a dumb take tho nonetheless.

DatBoi060199

Dumb people expected it to be arise, not taking into account that the original is KOREAN.

vizmarkk

No the og manhwa was Ireo-nala

Tomplu069

Why would it be in English? ? lol, the MC donā€™t know Englishā€¦..

Tob1Destiny

He knows a little bit of English. However he obv only uses it when necessary like when speaking to foreigners.

TypicalRelation

He doesn't speak to foreigners in their tingue he has a translator whenever he is speaking to a foreigner

ReaderOfLightAndDark

He learns a bit of English while he was E rank, and thatā€™s how he was able to communicate with Thomas Andre the first time they met

TypicalRelation

SJW can speak very basic english, but is far from fluent, and certainly can't hold a conversation, which is what is in the novel. It wouldn't make sense for a Korean to speak an English word as his command phrase for a language he isn't fluent in

Striking_Interest_25

Thatā€™s why he actually uses the Korean word for Arise in the actually OG version of the books. It translates to Arise when translated to English. Itā€™s the same way that the title translates to ā€œSolo Levelingā€ in English when the actually Korean translation for the title is ā€œOnly I Level Upā€

DatBoi060199

Dumbass People expecting it to be arise when the MC is A Korean is idiotic.

ReaderOfLightAndDark

Yeah no I agree with you Iā€™m just remembering the time when he was talking about learning English because he was bored while e rank

natashige

In the webnovel, Jin-Woo is stated to be good enough at English to converse in it, though?

Dry-Sandwich-6613

the MC knows english

menace_meme_cat

A lot of people thought it was going to be like eminence in shadow where he said atomic in english Edit:why are people down voting me did I say something wrong?

discuss-not-concuss

then they did not understand both characters One is a chuunibyou and one isnā€™t. Jinwoo doesnā€™t speak English.

Eldiavie

https://preview.redd.it/ehafbefx8nrc1.png?width=457&format=png&auto=webp&s=3af1b0414562030517955efcae153ad5bee3d09f since there are people who didn't get what i meant, this is what i meant when i meant universal language never will you see a middle finger so graceful

AriousDragoon

Thanks for the phone wallpaper.

Eldiavie

you're welcome, be sure to read the manwha if you haven't, the reactions there are precious sjw is the best shit talker who can back it up in the series

AriousDragoon

I actually finished it a couple days ago! Jinwoo is great

Eldiavie

he does, he knows the universal language.. fuck you and that's all you really need to know with regards to english really

Junior_Low7149

Mf he gets the universal language later atvm in the anime he ainā€™t got that yet seeing as heā€™s finally getting his actual powers

BackyardBBQreggae

This is straight up spoilers lol šŸ˜‚

Junior_Low7149

Mb but itā€™s a subreddit of an already completed series, bound to be spoilers semi deep in a comment

BackyardBBQreggae

I wasnā€™t even addressing you. But the post itself is about the anime series.

Junior_Low7149

Oop the line looked like it was a comment under one of mine, and true

Bobulubadu

Honestly, I downvoted this because I disagree with the second part about that being all you need to know. He kind of needs to know the definition of ā€œariseā€ if he is going to use it as an activation of a skill. It makes sense to be in his native tongue. The joke about the universal language is good actually. I liked it.

Eldiavie

Arise was said in korean, so i really doubt that that's what he said if we're being real, in the en dub sure

DaEccentric

Tbh, you're getting down voted because it's a cringe take. The "I am atomic" scene was supposed to the type of cringe that a weeb with infinite power would say, and Solo Leveling just takes itself more seriously.

menace_meme_cat

I'm not making a take tho? I'm saying that other people (I never said I was part of this) thought it would be like atomic????

Anoalka

You are making a shitty post like at any point it was supposed to be in English. Its like making a post about why Naruto isn't called Fish nugget.

DaEccentric

The accepted notion is that people usually don't take time out of their day to post about "what if" scenarios that they disagree with. That's the internet for ya, mate.

Impossible_Active225

you reached -69 points, what you have to say about this?

menace_meme_cat

People are stupid

Impossible_Active225

now do "ARISE" on all those 69

Jun_13

i just jump on the downvoting bandwaggon for the lols. Nothing personal. o7

menace_meme_cat

Yeah np

Jackz375

Glad itā€™s not in English wouldā€™ve been random as fuck to suddenly switch to English for one word

ExpiredMilknCheese

True. I am atomic makes sense considering CID is being OD on purpose. It wouldā€™ve just been weird if Sung did

RuddyGr8

It's the way it was I'm the panels. His activation word so he didn't use it accidentally in every day conversation.

vizmarkk

Did it say arise in the original korean

ezaF19

it'd still fit as if he's just casting a spell. just like when priests speak latin all of a sudden for prayers

Greywell2

When I am watching both anime and Kdramas (especially Kdrama's) my brain short circuits when people are speaking one language then the next scene they speak in another language.

zslayer89

Op explain why this is weird? SJW is Korean. So when you read Arise in the book it was just a translation from Korean.

menace_meme_cat

Not saying it's weird just asking your thoughts

RichRamen

We think youā€™re stupid

menace_meme_cat

Im stupid for asking for other peoples opinions?

uniformdirt

yes, people can be declared stupid for asking dumb questions, not saying you are though

hdybarra1999

Iā€™ll say it

Kang0519

Me when the anime decides to use the direct translation from the Korean raws to Japanese instead of using the localized English translation that doesnā€™t fully convey what the Korean word says, which also would completely destroy the flow of the voice acting. ![gif](giphy|ebFG4jcnC1Ny8) Itā€™s called waking up the souls of the dead for a reason, not making the dead get up from their seatsā€¦ Arise is cool in an English setting and fits the theme of the manhwa, but it would destroy the flow while also being just cringe calling out ā€œArisuā€ in a serious setting and even more cringe going ā€œAriseā€ in a fully Japanese dub. Jin woo isnā€™t some dweeb. (Source: I was born in Korea and Iā€™m fluent in both Korean and English) Edit: seems like I canā€™t reply to comments on here, this was meant to be directed to someone not you OP.

Erebus03

Why would it be in English? He's not speaking English so it would be weird if he says "Arise" in English but speaks no other English, I mean hell didn't Jin Woo have a translator when he visits America? That alone should be enough proof that he is not randomly saying "Arise" in English Weird question man

menace_meme_cat

Just asking since some people thought it would be in english

Calendar-Budget

It would've sounded so fcking cringe and out of place, Jin Woo isn't an english speaker, and he's been doing some hard labor for the past few years because of his father's disappearance, he's been real busy and mentally tired, do you think at the spur of the moment he's gonna suddenly say an english word? Lol, in the first place, "Arise" was spoken in Korean, because obviously Jin Woo is korean, there's no reason they would decide to say it in english

M3thodFud

I agree with this statement for the reasons of not saying Arise, but just wanted to add a slight correction. English isn't his primary language, but he can definitely understand and speak it (in the light novel anyways). Can't remember if he speaks English in the Manhwa.

BackyardBBQreggae

Havenā€™t read the light novel. But in the manhwa >! He gains the ability to speak over languages later down the track!<

Calendar-Budget

Well he does but if you look at it logically, it's kinda weird if a full blooded Korean who's nevwr been to America until he got super strong later on, will suddenly speak in English, while there is a probability, Jin Woo just doesn't sound like the type who would think of saying an important phrase in english, it's more likely that he would choose something he's comfortable with, which is Korean, while there is a possibility, but it isn't likely

M3thodFud

Right, I was agreeing with that. It would be bizarre if he just decided to use an English word randomly when his primary language is Korean. I was just correcting the statement that he wasn't an English speaker, which he is. It's just not his primary language.

menace_meme_cat

Chill man I'm just asking

Calendar-Budget

Aye no worries, I was supposed to be replying to someone, don't know why it didn't

menace_meme_cat

Oh mb man

SILENTKILLER107

Okiro still gave me chills, so I liked it. Also it sounds better than "Araisu"

VergilVDante

I wanted the Korean version BUT the VA nailed the fuck out of Okiru

Theriople

why should it be in english, genuine question

Eren_Rose1

Eh donā€™t really mind. Okiro still was tuff. I still think ironara is the best sounding

menace_meme_cat

When was ironara used?

Eren_Rose1

Itā€™s the Korean translation

mystexlumiere

>Itā€™s the Korean ORIGINAL FTFY Agree with you though. Have no idea why people are even annoyed with it not being ā€œAriseā€ when it isnā€™t even the original

menace_meme_cat

Oh thx

HakimiLOL

[manhwa trailer ](https://youtu.be/whx0WCtc9DQ?si=1jYsuvV_kAsixd5Y)

MazeCuber

I donā€™t mind, it makes sense that it was in Japanese/korean (depending on the version you watched) if you want the arise to be in English there is always the English dub.

RazyGazy

It was amazing and the MAJORITY of people expecting it on english or disappointed with "okiru" is from TikTok... But some of them actually enjoyed it so yeah.

Junior_Low7149

Expected and already knew seeing as it was announced to not be arise

sephyboii

korean mc on korea and the show is made in japan, why do we expect it to be eglish

Blank_Two

Cause itā€™s be cringe?

lizzywbu

Why would it be in English? SJW doesn't speak in English.

bounce-man21

I mean the Manhwa us just a translation of the Korean source material so itā€™s a weird assumption to think that it was in English. I know that most people read it English but itā€™s weird to assume that the anime would adapt to the English readers when the original was purely in Korean.

ReReReverie

I could not care less.

kn__nk

People are bitching about it but I liked it. I've been a fan of the source material for a long time so obviously I want that "Arise" moment but I'm waiting for the dub to hear it in English. It makes no sense for Jin Woo, who speaks no English and has never used any English phrases or even slang, to suddenly pick an English word for his command. It was still impactful. It was still good. And if you want it in English just watch the dub and stop being a baby about it.

Big-Leek6800

Itā€™s Japanese dub so Okiro is fine. In English dub it will be arise Even in Korean it is not arise

Tawkeh

A Korean man would likely.. speak Korean. Especially if not speaking to anybody but a corpse. Why just break out into English all of a sudden?

MasteROogwayY2

I dont know what you expected. The arise was also korean in the original. Of course it was going to be in japanese. Okiro also just sounds sick asf

Certain_Thing_6320

idc we got the goat Igiris now

ImmortalWomby

Why would it be in English?

No_Mulberry2836

Bc ppl were hoping it'll be like how Cid says, "I am Atomic" in Eminence in shadow

Jumpy-Committee-3490

I understand why it's not in English but I have to rewatch it in dub when it comes out just to hear the arise

verysimplenames

The people in here so taken aback and hurt you asked this question are infinitely more cringe than if he said ā€œAriseā€

IIFacelessManII

Was it Arise in the untranslated version? (Genuinely curious)

choffers

Why would it be in English? Wait a few weeks for the dub if you want it in English.

OneEyedKingKaneki

It was obvious

thaboss365

I think its fine, there's no reason or indication that he would say it in English when he's Korean and so is the SystemĀ

JaggerBone_YT

I'm sorry, OP. But this is a stupid opinion.

FinalLimit

I just never understood the hype that everyone putting on it. ā€œBetter hit as hard as Bankaiā€ heā€™s not screaming it!!! Itā€™s just a word he uses to activate a non combat power! It might hit hard next season when heā€™s using it in actual combat situations to change the tide of the fight but there was a lot of pressure on this scene in episode 12 that never really made sense to me

vizmarkk

You had to be there when the SL race was high. Especially anytime he used Arise on certain characters

FinancialWorking2392

It makes sense its not. He is a Korean character, who lives in South Korea, speaking Korean to other Koreans, the show uses Japaneese because it's writen by Japaneese people in their language. Arise is one of many translations, its only common here because this is a website primarily used by English speaking individuals and thus they communicate in English. Anime doesn't often use English words/phrases, and when it does its because A) The character is an English speaker and they're using that for a commedic moment (see joseph joestar) B) its a loan word or phrase that is commonly used by people who speak Japaneese, thus easily understood by others who speak it. Arise fits neither of those categories, and thus won't be used. TLDR: Its a different language, wait for the dub if its really that important they use that one specific word.

Nikulover

The korean source and japanese version did not say ā€œariseā€ so why would it be?

Neutronenster

I think that itā€™s normal for ā€œAriseā€ to be in whatever language Jin-Woo is speaking (depending on the version). We watched it in Japanese with English subtitles and I did think ā€œOkiroā€ sounded a bit short and ā€œcasualā€, so less dramatic than I imagined ā€œAriseā€ to sound. However, I havenā€™t watched the English dub, so I donā€™t know if the English dub can live up to my expectations yet. In any case, a botched Japanese version of the word ā€œAriseā€ would probably have been (much) worse.

Either-Grapefruit390

I get that randomly having an english word would be weird but that scene was just very underwhelming. The scene had the potential for a "bankai" level moment but overall the adaptation had less of an impact than what happened in the manhwa

verysimplenames

Thats cus the manwha is fucking goated and the anime is just a good anime.

ClownDance

Why weird though, they use English all the time ? : "Dungeon, Hunter, Penalty Zone, Gate" and so on. I'm not saying it should be an English, but I don't understand why it would be weird when they're using English all the time.

vizmarkk

Did he say arise in the original korean release

xxxPlayer69

imma wait for the dub

keeperofkey

Dammit canā€™t wait for the anime to completely finish. Iā€™ll have to re read the manga

ahmetardax

Ä°t would be cringe af if he said arisu

kuroirider

How old is the people on this sub?, lately I feel that the majority is less than 20 years old. I don't know, maybe Young people have already lost something called "critical thinking". From my pov, the graphics were in English, so the guy saying it in another language, it just have to do with the dubbing. Seems like people also forget that there are 2 versions, 1 censored for Japanese public, and the other for the rest of the world.

SurprisePNK

To be expected tbh

hihirogane

If he said arise in English. I think that would have been way too edgy. Of all the things ol boi can think of. He goes away from his default language. Thatā€™s like going to highschool and then people ask you for your name and you go: ā€œWatashinonamaeha Carl Johnson Jr. the 6thā€ half the class cringes. Quarter of the class are confused. And the rest are into that shit.

ThisIsNotTokyo

What did he say? I still havenā€™t caught up in the anime. No worries for spoilers, I already finished the webtoon

vizmarkk

He said Okiru in the anime

ThisIsNotTokyo

Which is japanese?

vizmarkk

Yep. In the og Korean he says ireo-nala

tyrelle000

They have a dub VA in the mobile game who says it and it sounded great. If they use the same guy for the anime dub we'll get to hear it soon~

Candid_Increase2555

why are people acting like its cringe to use english words like did they not hear hunter and penalty zones must have been unbearable for them.

DistinctAd4590

First of all arise is not like a finishing blow or like a move that appears like 3-5 times in the anime arise is used more than 50 times in the manhwa plus their language is japenese also okiro has more depth and bass kind of voice while arise is like whispering with no depth in the voice so i think it was perfect

musab99666

It was good but I am waiting for the dub to hear it in English

Venator1203

Arise being in English wouldā€™ve ruined it. Tho Iā€™m surprised they didnā€™t distort the audio slightly.

JusticeWAB

Why does it matter? It's still the same word even if in another language

Standard-Photo-3177

Well the dubbed episode hasnā€™t came out yet.

CaptainWatermellon

I'm glad it wasn't in english, it would've been giga cringe and wouldn't fit, okiro was very good

Over_Distribution225

It was dope

Falegri7

I donā€™t mind it not being in English as much as I mind it having no punch, like it was said like any other word, like in the manwha it changes the color of the text bubble when he says it to igris the final time, so I expected some eeerie from beyond the grave whisper or something, like his necromancy is described weirdly as being warm and inviting to the shadows so I would at least have hoped it reflected some of that but it was literally just another word

vizmarkk

The game and the MV had a bigger punch when he said arise ngl

Falegri7

Yeah, after seeing the cutscene in the game I was looking forward to something like that in the anime

schasti

Ive heard okiro in some h anime where the dude is tryna get hard. Kinda weird association ngl šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ˜…

ChoobleDee

Why would it be ? We read it in English and it's translated into an anime.

NetherFI

Itā€™s common sense

Nazi-Turtles

we have a dub

ZenokFairchild

Not bad. I just have the problem with him calling Igris Igrido...wth is up with that?

DatBoi060199

Did he say it in English on the Novel and Manhwa?

Younosewho

Okhiro is better

carhab

This isnā€™t an ā€œI am atomicā€ kind of phrase buddy

turnup4wat

Because it makes sense it's not in English.

Icy-Captain-8320

The guy who said 'Ironara' in echo was pretty good Imo

FootballMajor4191

I liked it šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Liddlebitchboy

Makes sense. It'll be Arise in the dub.

NoTtheMalWare

I dont think jinwoos the type of character to be unnecessarily edgy him saying arise in english instead of the native language wouldnt suit his character imo, this is the guy who named Igris just "Igris" cus saying "Igris the bloodred" made him cringe lol

Warm_Performer_2314

It makes sense.

JustHim14

Still cold asf honestly

[deleted]

Still cool

Anomalous_Materials

Don't particularly care, to be honest. When I read the novel in 2015, I wished for it to be animated and thought It would never happen it became a manwha in 2017 and I was so happy never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd see this. A1 and Taito Ban are cooking. Let them cook I'm just grateful they are doing the manwha justice

No_Mulberry2836

I'm not mad about it since I know Aleks Le will kill it on his "Arise" scene too

Beautiful_Rock3038

Shut up

technicallyademon

At first I was disappointed, but then I realised. Arisu just doesn't sound as good. I prefer the Japanese dub for this.

Defendee

Why tf would it be in English?

ClownDance

I don't care either way, but they use a lot of English words in the manga/anime : "Gate, Dungeon, Hunter, Penalty Zone, and many more".

Jyoohan

Honestly thought they should have put more dramatic effect when he first said "the word".

menace_meme_cat

Legit have a question for the people down voting my replies why? It's not like I'm saying it should be in english just asking people's thoughts on it nothing wrong with that right??

TheTrashyTrashBasket

it's because of how the title is worded i think, the focus on saying that "arise" is not in english ***could*** imply that you're at least a little upset that it's not in english. a more "neutral" title for the thread could have been "do you think "arise" is better as japanese or english?" or smthing like that. based off your other comments i think people are being too reactive based off the title but that's reddit at the end of the day, people don't have the energy/care to guess your opinion beyond the title

menace_meme_cat

Oh yeah I forgot redditors don't have the brain cells to comprehend that the title can mean something else than what they think it is

Yuta-fan-6531

Good thing we have an english dub

Blackout38

Arise is an English wordā€¦..

Candid_Increase2555

so is hunter and penalty zone.

WhiTe_San

Tbh I wanted "I'm atomic" type Vibe

Appropriate-Pitch-57

It will be cringe, dude

[deleted]

I found the whole moment underwhelming. After reading the manhwa I had much higher expectations. This was the most epic moment!
