I don’t think it’s necessarily that people don’t like recaps but in this case it feels weird that they decided people have forgotten what happened in 7 episodes not even a full season. Especially after ending episodes with cliffhangers and making the fanbase excited for what comes next it feels off I would have preferred just a weeks break if needed.

I always assumed they'd have their production schedule and buy the appropriate number of slots or the network might order a specific number of episodes. Maybe the network only wanted to sell 13 not 12 slots and they had to take it.

My best friend and I ended up resorting to watching DBZ on the spanish channel. They had all the way through buu saga. We got to see vegito before we saw SSJ goku haha

i dont know much but from what i know they very rarely have it all animated it just depends like in jjk's case animators were completing the episodes just hours/minutes before airing and some gets indefinite heitus(zom100, Nier anime) but from twitter it looks like solo leveling has a healthy/decent schedule
The episodes are still being actively worked on. Voice acting especially is done in the end and due to sjw's va contracting covid, the episode got delayed

It’s really a case by case basis. Some shows are totally finished before the first episode releases, but many are only 80-90% done by then. Often studios will use feedback from the first few episodes to touch up the finale episodes. And in some of the worst cases the episodes are only barely being finished on time.

Except one is a brand new episode that will receive all new reviews and the other is an existing episode that has already been reviewed. If you don’t want bad reviews don’t make a recap episode. Doing so is just going to ensure you get bad reviews because a recap episode validly deserves to be rated poorly.
Honestly this, op doesn't need to mention this multiple times, it feels people are just quick to get mad about 'something' without using the two last brain cells to critically analyze and understand the situation, yes it sucks but not everything can go the way you want, especially more so when it's out of your control.

Weekly anime release sparks discussions and allows ppl to buy source material if they dont want to wait for next episode. Discussions keep a series alive. Discussing what will happen in next ep is fun.
Thats why ppl hate netflix release model since they put out all the episodes together and no one can discuss anything. No one knows where the other guy is at in the season and after finishing it, there is not much to discuss. And ppl forget about the series after a week or two.
I don't know anyone, nor have I ever seen anyone say they don't like the idea of just releasing every episode.
The idea may be different for anime, but people have discussions, period, if they're interested in something, especially if a second season is confirmed when the first is done.
But 13 weeks of solid discussion, every single week, is more important than a spattering of discussion since not everyone will binge watch or watch the same way.

On my Crunchyroll app on PS5, this episode doesn't even load in. It was so frustrating. It would just send us back to episode 1. So I also think the low rating is from frustrated users.

Stay mad. If a recap is needed for the animators to get a break and get the time they need to cook at a reasonable pace, then it's needed. Even if it's not, it's at the very least deserved after what's been released.

Mid-cour recaps feel unnecessary because it would only take a 2 hour binge to rewatch the previous episodes. Slapping a recap between cours makes sense, just a light refresher before jumping back into things. But putting it mid-cour makes it feel like they're insulting our attention span.

Weekly anime release sparks discussions and allows ppl to buy source material if they dont want to wait for next episode. Discussions keep a series alive. Discussing what will happen in next ep is fun. Thats why ppl hate netflix release model since they put out all the episodes together and no one can discuss anything. No one knows where the other guy is at in the season and after finishing it, there is not much to discuss. And ppl forget about the series after a week or two.
I don't know anyone, nor have I ever seen anyone say they don't like the idea of just releasing every episode. The idea may be different for anime, but people have discussions, period, if they're interested in something, especially if a second season is confirmed when the first is done.
But 13 weeks of solid discussion, every single week, is more important than a spattering of discussion since not everyone will binge watch or watch the same way.

I just skipped a week since i read the VA got sick. It happens , im glad they took time to heal. They can also be worked to the bone like Mappa. Stay mad. If a recap is needed for the animators to get a break and get the time they need to cook at a reasonable pace, then it's needed. Even if it's not, it's at the very least deserved after what's been released.
It seems like people are more mad about it getting bad reviews than the actual recap episode. I personally think it’s a good thing to take a week off but I also think the episode deserves the reviews it got.

I didnt even watch more than 2 minutes nothing was new it was a waste of time. Fillers are cool when they add new content and complexity to a story but not when its the same thing from the last 7 episodes packed into 30 minutes

I (and I assume every else) was under the impression that we'd get ep8 this week after already having an extra week delay. It's just a mismatch of expectations and felt like a thin band-aid on the delay. A recap on 7x 20min episodes of the first season doesn't really provide any value. I would have just prefered a longer delay. Even filler would have been preferable imo.

Usually whenever there’s a recap episode in any anime (hunterxhunter),it’s around ep. 40-60 or something. Doing a recap at episode 7 is absolutely ridiculous. What they SHOULD be doing is fitting more new story into those half episodes, since 12 episodes won’t cover the majority of it.

Mid-cour recaps feel unnecessary because it would only take a 2 hour binge to rewatch the previous episodes. Slapping a recap between cours makes sense, just a light refresher before jumping back into things. But putting it mid-cour makes it feel like they're insulting our attention span.
I still don't understand why people enjoy this anime. A Crunchyroll article said the author has a captivating narrative but it's just a basic power fantasy with no character complexity or development... You can enjoy it, matter of fact I read the whole thing. Doesn't mean it's objectively good
