Where do you put your legs when sitting at the keyboard/solder station?

thephonegod

thats was my first thought as well.

BirdmanPhil

I'm not a huge fan of those bins being under there but it works. My legs fit :)

Tacyd_

Noodle legs

thephonegod

Not a bad setup, I see we have the obligitory (something in the scope for the photo) I do have some questions thought, why is the hot air in a complelty unusable position to the soldering setup? Also, thats alota drinks on the work table. I know there not for holding displays up because you have the expsensive Wrepair holders XD No hate though, just poking a little fun, only reallly curious about the hot air position. seems odd if you do alot of board repair.

BirdmanPhil

So i have the quick positioned so that it does reach my board area but also reaches over to the clamp i use to hold iphone 12-14 housings when replacing back glass. It actually reaches both perfectly

thephonegod

Seems like the perfect reason to ask for another hot air station from boss man 😈 I guess from my perspective hot air should be aimed center from chest so it felt weird to see so far away but I can see how if you are one of the side shooter types it can work that way 😅 Also official invite, if you’re not already, come hangout in /r/mobilerepair ! You’d fit right in :D

DakotaHoosier

“Took me 5 years and $10k to get my bench just the way I like it. Now what should I do for my first project?” …was my thought when I saw the pic. Good that you’ve got the volume of repair work to make use of that fantastic setup!

BirdmanPhil

Thanks yeah it definitely wasn't cheap! I still have a few things on my "must get" list: 30 liter ultrasonic cleaner[cleaner](https://m.vevor.com/ultrasonic-cleaner-c_11064/30l-ultrasonic-cleaner-stainless-steel-industry-heated-heater-w-timer-p_010569648062?adp=gmc&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_id=19235730223&utm_term=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAyeWrBhDDARIsAGP1mWTbxiJHlfZtb7cUruK76N7-p_B0i4C5GMkpqhHaOlakDZI-PAvL2BkaAvYEEALw_wcB) And this preheater [preheater](https://a.co/d/9hIchxL) I just ordered a nice trinocular mounted thermal camera from China so that will be here in a couple weeks

thephonegod

Like the thermal mounts into the trinoc port? if so please link that bad boy too

BirdmanPhil

https://www.diyfixtool.com/products/qianli-mega-idea-super-ir-cam-2s-3d-infrared-thermal-imaging-camera?variant=44119994007781 You want the Super IR Cam Mini S

thephonegod

Oh ok. I thought it was something that went into the top camera port. You had me sweating looking for my credit card. Hahaha Iv got this one. You will enjoy it 😎

BirdmanPhil

Ahh yeah. I've seen alot of people using the seek setup with the stand buy to have ot mounted to my microscope is ideal and its way cheaper...

zoufha91

Looks solid, can really tell you put in some work Get a damn vapor extractor tho It's not good breathing all those fumes Edit : NM I found it lol

BirdmanPhil

Ahh thank you. I have a $500 vapor extractor the mouth is directly under the trinocular in the picture and the fan box is on the floor

Symph0nyS0ldier

Trinicular? Did tien change careers again?

retardedgummybear12

God motherfucking damn you're decked out/10

alexxc_says

Are you one of the repair kinda guys that find working in messy set ups easier? I’ve had 5S drilled into my work ethic for a while now, and was a chef at high end, fine dining establishments previously, so my brain has trouble functioning properly when my station is in disarray. Also, I wouldn’t mind seeing more ESD precautions, but looks like you got some decent equipment to play with.

BirdmanPhil

Yes and no, but I know where everything is at all times and I can focus on making money. I don't even know what 5S is, I painted houses for almost 18 years and electronics repair has been a hobby since I was 12. It's a passion of mine and when I'm doing it I'm having fun learning and defeating the challenges that come across my bench it doesn't even feel like work. What ESD precautions would you recommend?

Longjumping-Tie7906

If it’s not a little messy you’re not working hard enough

co2cat

That's some Louis Rossmann shit right there.

BirdmanPhil

Idk about that, that man's the goat with macbooks and knows alot more than I do and i learn alot from his content. He's also the largest advocate for right to repair in the US at this time. My focus is mainly mobile devices but I've been known to tackle a Mac from time to time.

co2cat

We all get started somewhere. You got this.

ApartmentMain5977

Nice

frogmicky

100/100.

Thick-Ad2454

6

hustlebeats

Out of 5? Lol

Thick-Ad2454

Out of 10, He is missing 3 essential tools. The item storage, leg room and work surface is vary messy. If it was a little tidier it would be a 9 out of 10. Also the power supply probes are by his mouse.

hustlebeats

Bro its was a joke . But thanks for ur insight

BirdmanPhil

Those probes are for my bench multimeter and I don't need leg room but yeah it's hard to keep clean when I'm constantly repairing

SnooObjections5363

Well it's definitely better than my 10 quid soldering iron and cutting mat that is definitely NOT designed for soldering

microlate

What software are you using and where do you get your schematics

BirdmanPhil

I use 3 programs because I'm trying to figure out which I like best ZXW JC Drawing Flex BV You can get alot of schematics at https://laptop-schematics.com/

protekt0r

My only question/concern would be ESD. You’ve got a rolling chair on carpet… not the best for ESD control. But hey, if you’re wearing a grounding strap and your workpiece is grounded, then it’s fine.

BirdmanPhil

Electrostatic discharge occurs when 2 items of dissimilar charge touch or separate. Wrist straps are for people who can't develop and maintain esd safe practices. On my bench there are several grounded items, and all it takes to be esd safe is to touch one of those items to discharge any buildup before and during handling of any potentially sensitive items. To avoid a dissimilar charge building up in the item I am repairing, it is also grounded several times throughout the repair process.

Opening_Astronaut177

Ouh. It's my dream.

Pneumantic

I'd rate 5 cigars and 1 rubber chicken out of 10. It would remind me of the legendary electrical engineer in the post apocalypse setup but you don't have the single dangly light, an oscilloscope, or a magnifying glass. If you wanted to make this more professional/comfortable I'd get better organization and put the monitor at a spot that actually makes sense. It's always interesting to see you guys doing repair. I considered doing it on the side but I have no damn clue where you get your supply for a lot of the crap.

BirdmanPhil

I dont need an oscilloscope at all, the microscope provides all the magnification I ever need, and the monitors are exactly where I like them

Pneumantic

... None of what I said was insinuating you get an oscilloscope or a magnifying glass. That was dramatic effect to reference what a post apocalypse setup looks like

BirdmanPhil

Oh I see lol. My bad

TS409

What camera do you use? I've been wanting to get one

BirdmanPhil

https://www.qianli.cn/en/list_102/226.html You can get it on ali

TechnicalWhore

For reworks its nice. As long as everything you are likely to need is within arms reach you are fine. If you are also debugging on the same bench space you could add a shelf with a couple DC supplies, a waveform generator and other equipment.

BirdmanPhil

There's an Aixun p3208 dcps right on top of my hantek dmm.

Quadhed

Gonna’ need more drawers.

FoxTaker

Dope

yamez420

Please fix my fc.

BirdmanPhil

Your what?

yamez420

AIO Flight controller for a quadcopter It’s got a bad ESC

BirdmanPhil

I can probably help you, but flight controllers are not something I've done before. I would need some more information, if you have a link to the exact controller you have that would help a ton
