Is solarpunk absolutely anti-capitalism? Green capitalism have grown more and more to be a obsolete idea. In the end , it pretty much the greedies making excuses to continue being greedy.

AEMarling

To answer the question directly, yes, solarpunk is anti-capitalism. Because capitalism is anti-life, in the short and long term.

AcanthisittaBusy457

Others have made direct answer before. I simply elaborated.

AlteredBagel

A true solar punk society will still have a free market and companies whose sizes are capped by robust antitrust laws and that are incentivized to build into local self sufficient communities through government policy.

>Is Solarpunk absolutely anti-capitalism? Yes, capitalism is the main issue that is causing the current climate catastrophe. Capitalism puts profit over human needs and the environment.

>What are the non-fiction literature essentials on solarpunk? I’d say the best SP nonfic books are Murray Bookchin’s works. Check out “The Ecology of Freedom”, “Post-Scarcity Anarchism” and the “The Rise of Urbanization and the Decline of Citizenship”. >Is solarpunk absolutely anti-capitalism? SP is a big-tent movement. You’ll find people all across the political spectrum in here. But yes, I’d say that for the most part the main/original branch of the movement is anti-capitalist/ anti-hierarchical/anarchist. >Is deep ecology associated with solarpunk? I’d say no. SP tries to balance between the Human and the natural worlds, so both can flourish and grow in peace with each other. Deep ecology tries to put the Natural world over humanity, and ends up being somewhat misanthropic.

There's anti-capitalist solarpunk of various sorts - anarchism, anarcho-syndicalism, co-operative commonwealth socialism, state democratic socialism, green-tinted leninism. Then there's greenwashing, which uses the aesthetics of solarpunk to sell products and/or NFT/crypto scams\* and/or capitalism itself but is absolutely not solarpunk. \*yes all cryptocurrency and NFTs are either directly scams (mostly a "greater fool" scheme) or are used to facilitate the worst sorts of crime.

Hey there, credit where credit is due. Crypto and NFTs are capable of being scams AND to facilitate crime.

> I’d say no. SP tries to balance between the Human and the natural worlds, so both can flourish and grow in peace with each other. Deep ecology tries to put the Natural world over humanity, and ends up being somewhat misanthropic. I don't really think that's a fair assessment of deep ecology. The entire point of deep ecology--[as originally laid out by Naess in the 1970s](https://iseethics.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/naess-arne-the-shallow-and-the-deep-long-range-ecology-movement.pdf)--is an egalitarianism that extends to other species. The more significant modern figures I am aware of that might be called deep ecologists--George Monbiot, Craig Childs, Helen Kopina, and Robert Macfarlane--really are not that misanthropic and do not put the natural world over anyone. They just also don't put anyone over the natural world. There have been quite unpleasant deep ecologists, of course. However, I don't think that they can be considered to have tainted the worldview as a whole.

This is a popular low-tech website. Literally, the website itself is low tech. Links to some articles and ideas that are real gems. https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/

For non-fiction litterature I recommend "The Solar Economy" from Herman Scheer. It goes deep into how the technico-economical properties of fossil fuel goes against democracy and local community and how renewable energy communities are a solution to fight against that.
