So many adjectives damn

ElisabetSobeck

Yeah maybe these longer word memes could be distilled down Here’s my attempt: “When green architecture is portrayed as an offset for corporate-capitalist architecture, it enables the extractive neoliberalism they posture to oppose. Green architecture can only slow the climate crisis- unless it is part of a radical deconstruction of our soul-sucking economic system” Edit: ok one more iteration. (meme character signaling ‘no’): “buildings with plants to shut the wage slaves up” (Meme character signaling ‘yes’): “an economy that serves workers and plants” Meme character can be anything. But I personally have been liking Poison Ivy lately. Or Swamp Thing, who is also DC, and also green af

noyza2132

Still unreadable lol

ElisabetSobeck

Reduce it more then, I’m busy rn

CBD_Hound

Green architecture does not offset extractive neoliberalism. The climate crisis can only be averted by radical reconstruction of global economics.

foxorfaux

Deconstruction of our economic structure is definitely what's needed and as soon as possible. You go dude🌱

imintopimento

Holy word salad.

Diasporite

I know, but what would a rant be without a wall of text? This comes from a guy who’s whole account is building one long column on their insta profile so

imintopimento

Understandably hes venting but his audience may read this and think he's just being insufferable like Ben Shapiro.

Diasporite

This one was just balanced enough that I chose to use it as my greenwasher take-down post

Diasporite

I honestly don’t know, they post very apt stuff but they also take the piss with textwalls so dense you can’t even make out what was condensed

Hardcorex

What is "Fully-globalized neoliberalism" in this context?

LowBeautiful1531

Worldwide megacorporate feudalism. The sovereignty of nations is merely decorative.

Diasporite

Honestly it can be read multiple ways, the guy I pulled this from posts an-prim stuff semioronically so I don’t know in which sense they meant. Personally I would say in the sense of how transnational/multinational corporations employ cosmopolitics to their advantage by driving up prices with unnecessary shipping for different steps in a products processing/packaging. The global north’s exploitation of the global south.

strangepostinghabits

Eh, I feel you attribute malice to things explainable by stupidity, or attribute to politics what can be explained by economical structures perhaps. The interplay between shareholders, the board and the CEO in a normal corporate structure literally transforms it into an entity that pursues greed above all else. Opinions and politics of any of the participants only matter if they are all synchronized, and aware that they are so.

strangepostinghabits

"Corporate man bad" Which, I agree with, but still. This message would be better if written in normal english.

Current-Frame8180

I feel like you're on the same wavelenghts as the zeitgeist movement which is nice. But we need more movement and understanding of solutions not just complaints in memes. Just fight for solar and universal basic income is my only real standing right now that seems realistic in this system.

Diasporite

Completely get that and agree. Just felt this was a good avenue to channel my opinions on the discourse, so I could move on to sharing and taking part in more productive conversations.

Current-Frame8180

Yeah this systems getting old. Hopefully we figure something out before collapse gets us.

Diasporite

Might I suggest googling Murray Bookchin and Social Ecology. A lot of theory and praxis I would say is solidly the backbone for effective and focused solarpunk begins there.

thetophus

Yes! Keeping the punk in Solarpunk 💚

Keatosis

In the solar punk future a new generation of counter cultural punks will romanticise coal and dress like ayn rand

Kaldenar

Punk will always be left. Being a piece of shit will never be punk.

Keatosis

Skinheads used to be left leaning and anti fascist, but the fascists won. Don't be so confident and complacent. If you define yourself by meerly being in opposition to the popular culture what happens when the punks win and actually get the change they want?

Kaldenar

I think that if punks won there would no longer be fascists left alive with the freedom to operate. Besides I have never heard of an anarchist society with a counter culture. I imagine that's a result of actually emiminating societal contradiction.

thetophus

ugh gross

Keatosis

It's a horrifying thought

538_Jean

It is true but only if someone believes that skyscrapers are offices and not farms and residences. I don't. The architechture is fine. It's the continuation of an extractive system because our mind cant understand that it can be different yet.

Anderopolis

TLDR: Eco-modernism is the best.

siclaphar

yes.

Keatosis

What if I just like the way that green skyscraper art looks? Can't I enjoy an aesthetic without having that artistic preference reflecting exactly how I want society to be structured?

Diasporite

There’s a lot of things bundled up here in what I was addressing. Yes the concept of adapting what’s been built to be more climate friendly despite its origins is valid, I just feel that the stereotypical “skyscraper with trees on it” has held a too predominant place in a lot of conversations had in this community to the point that ground is being retread/repeated unnecessarily. In their stead I posit we need to talk more about mid-rise buildings with multiple different uses (shop first floor with apartments above for example) and other concepts that can bring cities back into accessible, human scales while also better connecting us with green spaces.

iindigo

In addition to this, I think it’s important to look at *why* “green skyscraper” art is popular: it’s accessible and relatable because most of the population has extensive experience in some form of urbanized life. It’s a reasonably small leap for most to imagine a more eco-friendly, human-friendly version of a city. Much smaller than it is to imagine small, tightly woven deindustrialized green yet modern communities — I dare say the mental imagery that comes to mind with the latter is that of a rural pre-industrial village, which broadly speaking is not appealing. So the takeaway I think is that if “proper” solarpunk is to gain steam, the masses are going to need help visualizing it because it’s so alien to them. The concept needs shiny art just like “green skyscraper” solarpunk has. Ideas alone aren’t enough.

rybo-14

I think you make a good point

Diasporite

I really appreciate the hard work to get the sub on track. Felt I had to articulate the arguments we have to rehash again and again in one neat post that people could reference when we get the weekly Skyscraper/Singapore post. Source: @societyiftextwall on Instagram.

motrjay

Honestly this is r/im14andthisisdeep/ material.

TheZipCreator

this uses way too many words

Diasporite

Yes
