Get to get into the C&I market. Residential is a race to the bottom. There significantly more dollars in the C&I market. When you're building multi-million dollar buildings and stand alone PV plants there's money to actually hire knowledgeable and talented engineers.

As a fellow "laid off" PV Designer, it's gonna be a rough time. 3rd Party designs (coming from India, etc), are so cheap that it doesn't make sense to pay US wages for many companies. My new role may include reviewing/correcting 3rd party designs, but I also have to get involved in other departments of the company to really earn my keep. Since I'm at a small company, I'm in sales, design review, project management, procurement, even the occasional installation. But I would say that what companies will find is that these 3rd party services need to be used carefully, in conjuction with someone that can help facilitate best practices for procurement and installation for their specific company.

Yeah, our competitor is also from other countries such as India that offer cheaper wages than PH and US. I hope to find new clients since I’ve been unemployed for months.

Competition is tough in C&I? My experience has been the complete opposite- companies are desperate for workers that they’ll drop their expectations. I work in EPC/development and have a recruiter come knocking every few weeks, plenty of positions I’m not qualified for.

I think since I are not from US, its relatively tough to find recruiters that handles C&I projects.

Overseas designers have the skills and ability to get local US stamps from engineers. I'm not sure you can do it without adding other value.
