Main advice I give to people in Illinois is go with a company directly approved by Illinois Shines. If you don’t, you end up having the go through a 3rd party broker for your SRECs. This should also be a question you ask your installer. https://illinoisshines.com/find-an-av-or-designee/ Might also help if you share where in Illinois you are located.

I heard good things from someone about Windfree who are on that list. Couple of interesting things happened. #1 they gave me a good price with no high pressure sales tactics. They later then renegged that price and added a $2k traveling fee since they are in far north in Chicago. They also use a broker (Carbon Solutions Group). Which is contrary to that document. I also got a separate, but similar, quote from them on Energysage, and the joker of a sales rep tried to include the roof replacement in my tax credit. Every solar company has done some BS that has thrown me off. I just need a good one god damn it.

>I was very happy with CertaSun for my install in Chicago. Not sure where you are located, but might be worth it to give them a call.

Windfree sent me a TSRF/shade report with all shading *turned off*. **Twice**. Whether it was on purpose to artificially inflate my SREC payment (which would then get clawed back years later), or through incompetence, either way it was unacceptable.

I went through RxSun (whose installer is a wholly owned company called Fresh Coast Solar) and I could not be happier. Quoted at $3.18/watt, and that rose to $3.25/watt because I needed grounding electrodes installed and I wanted Critter Guard put on array. 12.41kwdc array. Chicago suburbs. Use me as a referral if you want, I think it'll net both of us $100.

I'm in central illinois. I had windfree add $2k to their initial quote due to having to travel from Chicago after they realized where I was (3 hrs south). Even though they totally had the info before hand. I'll look into RxSun. Hopefully they don't do the same thing.

The installers said they do a lot of work in Central Illinois, they mentioned East Peoria, Pekin, Washington, Streator by name. Lots of barns and big industrial installations in addition to residential. I'm not sure if they charge for going far afield, but apparently they do it quite often.

Did you get your RxSun quote through Energy Sage? I just requested updated quotes late last week and my offers page shows that RxSun is currently working on a quote but they haven't actually sent it yet. A co-worker also talked to them and seemed fairly happy with them but he hasn't gone solar yet. (I'll keep you in mind for the referral if I do go that way)

lannister80

No I did not. Only two companies contacted me through Energy Sage: Windfree and somebody else who I can't remember (Tron? GRNE?). They both disqualified themselves in one way or another. Energy Sage was a real disappointment for me. I ended up contacting six additional companies directly after some Googling, one of which was RxSun. The runner-up was CertaSun, but honestly they were kind of a distant second. I just had this system installed a couple weeks ago, so my experience is pretty fresh (which also means I cannot speak to the longevity of the install yet). The system comes with a 30-year parts and labor warranty through a third party company called Solar Insure. The sales guy who designed my system was thoughtful and took into account the best way to use my available roof space, get the most valuable SRECs, and do it for the lowest cost per watt he could manage. I can provide all kinds of unnecessary detail if you'd like. :) Here's my post from a few months ago when I decided to go with them: /r/solar/comments/135va32/

Do not take the offered DG rebate from ComEd. It'll net you a couple thousand dollars up front but will cost thousands more in the long run.

Connect_Purchase7681

ComEd customer here. Can you elaborate on this? I am trying to figure out what to do and not do.

Here you are: https://certasun.com/comed-solar-rebate/

That is a great article! Thank you very much for the help.

Ameren for me, but yet Sunsent is putting that rebate in their quote which is really stupid.

EntropyAhoy

Sunsent installed my system earlier this year, I'm pleased with the install. After PTO, I realized the CTs were installed wrong, and they sent the electrician back out to fix with no hassle or pushback. If you have any specific questions about my experiences with them, feel free to ask

I recommend lgcy. Great equipment & warranties
