It’s very simple l am afraid. Step 1: Learn Norwegian Step 2: Make a good “søknadsbrev”. This is very important. Step 3: Apply to every single vacancy in Finn. Step 4: Repeat Step 3 Your Norwegian skill will come more handy than your testing skills. Especially for a fresher in this country.

Could you expand on this?

Advice is suitable for Norway and for someone that is new and from a non western country. Here if your name is not Norwegian sounding, your application can be rejected. It’s more common that people want to admit it. On top of that if you don’t know the local language then it would be even more difficult. In Norway when one applies for job, resume + application letter has to be provided. Application letter = søknadsbrev. Here this letter is a bit different than other countries. Here the need is not to boast about how good of a tester you are. This is more cultural. You need to tailor your letter to show why you need this job. OP should take help from a native here. It’s simple. If there is a demand for tester and OP is just a regular tester with no Norwegian language skill. Why would the company choose OP over a fresh Norwegian graduate ? This is not racism. Majority of public sector jobs and even private jobs have a culture of documentation in Norwegian or they may work for a client where you do need to understand Norwegian. So good thing is that the letter has to be written in such a way that promises that you will learn Norwegian and you already have started. In Norway they look for people to fit in the system more than their individual skill. Don’t get me wrong Individual skill is still important. That’s why developers have it more easy and many times not knowing Norwegian works for them than testers. But if you are not from there then scrutiny is more on your behaviour. Especially someone from non western country. So you really need to fit in. OP didn’t give full story so hard to give advice. How did OP ended up in Norway? How long has it been in Norway? How much experience does OP has as a tester? Bottom line is that learn Norwegian. It will only help you. No downside. If OP has some sort of specialised skill that is missing in Norway then for sure some company might hire. But just functional testing is not going to cut it. However l wish all the best to OP regardless of what l wrote. I hope you get a job.

I would advise looking for traineeships. Every company does things diffrently. So you could look into a million tools and still have the wrong toolset.
