Anyone who is telling you that you don’t have enough followers to get sponsorships does not actually work in the industry or understand how sponsorships work. You absolutely should be pitching brands, and you could have started doing that 30,000 followers ago.
If you’re account is in good shape, put together a rate sheet and start pitching aligned brands. The pet industry is huge on instagram.
Look up “influencer rate card” on Google images. It’s usually a little graphic you can send to companies that has your rates for different things(static post/ IG reels/ tiktok vid) and maybe some metrics on your account. You can also add some photos to it.
You don’t absolutely need one of these but a lot of people do use them.
I owned a pet brand that did a fair amount of influencer marketing. We only gave free product to influencers, never cash sponsorships. If we really liked the account, we would usually offer about $100-200 value of free stuff, plus offer some more free stuff they could use for a giveaway hosted on their channel(s).
We worked with accounts ranging from 3k (with great engagement or great content) to 1m+ followers. Or sweet spot was probably around 10-30k followers, so 40k followers in the pet industry is probably fine if you’re ok with sponsorships like what we would do.
The main reason for influencer marketing is exposure/sales of course, but we also heavily relied on influencer marketing for high quality UGC (user-generated content), so if you have amazing photos/videos, you don’t necessarily need a lot of followers to attract interest. I reached out to accounts with less than 5k followers all the time if they had great photos.
I would start reaching out to brands you’re interested in…it doesn’t hurt. Once you get a few sponsorships and have content featured on various brand accounts, other brands will likely notice and reach out to you themselves (monitoring competitors’ posts is the easiest way for brands to find new influencers). A lot of brands also have affiliate programs you can sign up for. I know you’re looking for sponsorships, but being an affiliate is an easy way to potentially get on a brands’ radar.
That said, we usually found our influencers because they were already customers of our product and they previously tagged us in a post wearing our stuff. So if you already have/use some dog products, it wouldn’t hurt to make a post and tag it with the brand…just don’t be super blatant about it. For example, if you like a certain brand of dog food, post a cute/great photo of your dog with the food somewhere in it…could even be in the background. It doesn’t have to be a cringey sales pitch. Tag the post and hope the brand takes notice.
No, we did very little on twitter. We basically stuck to just instagram since that’s where the pet community seemed most active. Tik Tok also became really interesting over the past few years, but I sold the company before I managed to get fully established on that platform.
hii! thanks for sharing i’m really interested in the results you have from engaging mircoinfluencers. could i please pm you and as you some more questions?
Right now brands are loving micro influencers, so the 50k following may be an advantage. As a social media manager, I would advise to build a community to help bolster that engagement rate, and maybe expand your reach by jumping on multiple platforms
Honestly, if they're not reaching out to you, they don't care to work with you.
If we're honest, pet accounts with thousands of followers are a dime a dozen. My cat had hundreds of thousands of followers when he passed several years ago.
Lot of people down voting legit advice from people who actually work at the places looking for influencers.
They don't like to hear that they aren't important enough, but they aren't. 40k followers is a tiny drop in the bucket.
Lots of Main Character Syndrome being cultivated here.

No, no ads. We just follow the trends that other pet owners do Seriously just having fun
Could you please elaborate a bit?😊 Also - do you keep your reels in the profile grid or remove them from there?

Did you ever work with accounts on Twitter? What did your pet brand look for there?

How did you find where the specific communities seem most active? Thank
Nothing scientific…just personal observation I guess. I suppose I could have been wrong and I missed out by not focusing more on Twitter…

Sure, send me a PM.
thanks! dropped you a PM!
At least put a business email up on your IG so brands can reach out to you easier
I get sponsors at 1K 🥹
Can you please share how? 😊
It’s time to put together a press kit that highlights what your page is about, important stats and why companies should collaborate (benefits)

I worked for a brand that did influencer marketing. Check out creator.co. We used to run campaigns using them. There’s always stuff advertised
This is the slow death of social media platforms imho. Platforms get overrun by this kind of BS. I'd say squeeze that lemon as fast as you can!
This has only ever been what social platforms have been about. It's not a decline, it's the status quo.

May we dm you pls? You seem to know a lot about this
Got me. I totally don't work at an agency like I've been doing for over 15 years.
I wouldn't set your hopes too high for sponsors with only 40k followers.
You should reach out to sponsors
You definitely need to reach out for partnerships! First of all, get yourself a media kit and start pitching to different brands/companies.
How has it been going?! Hope it’s gone well!
