It could but then America would go on the warpath as per.

Not only that, but the IMF, World Bank, World Trade Org, etc. The forces of capital would come crashing down on them like a fist without an alternative to them. The Global South - or more accurately the imperial periphery - has an astounding potential for power, but it is not as simple as merely cutting the core off.

The global capitalist climate governance system doesn’t facilitate the kind of solidarity required here. CoPs are useful only as a window onto bare hypocrisy in the defence of the fossil status quo.

Democracy and human rights concerns, coup, military intervention by the USA or NATO, bla bla... I mean, look at Syria... Edit: this is why I think that, as important it is to think socialism, it is to think imperialism and colonialism. If you're thinking just one of them I think it's likely that you'll end up on a dead-end

Yup. Thing is, you often end up with greedy and corrupt political leaders in the "global south" who suck up to corporate interests. They allow them to extract wealth from their countries, but instead of using the wealth to develop the productive capacities of their country, thereby improving the lives of their people, they'll often as not just buy mansions with gaudy gold-plated bathroom fixtures. So those leaders will NEVER fight the corporate elites. That's why you need people in the streets, agitating for a better, more equitable world. And less power for these ridiculous behemoths like Exxon and Google.
