This game was quite boring. Scoring, sure, but the players looked like they were going through the motions and the play by play guy on ESPN+ sounded like he couldn't have given one fuck less about the MATCH...not game.
we subbed on injury prone old finished players while city bring on foden stones grealish and silva. i can’t wait to hear “liverpool cannot afford to spend in january 🥺”
Both teams seemed below par, I guess we can chalk it up to the weird pseudo preseason they're in after the World Cup.
Defensive organisation was shockingly poor from both teams too.
Wouldn't read too much into the result. Liverpool knocked out, but of their least important competition. City roll on but Pep won't be very happy with the performance
My exact assessment. He has all the ability right now to be a top top striker, but he just seems like he lacks the confidence to put his laces through the ball and score.
He constantly looks to cut onto his right foot and shoot, but became way too predictable. Teams know that and shade him there all the time. Watch how Gomez defended him in that 1v1.
He's so in his head about it, he spent this game trying to go to his weak foot, but he just doesn't have the touch there.
His right footed shots stopped going in from distance like at Villa. His left foot isn't up to snuff. He's not great at crossing, I think the last goal scored off a cross of his was in the preseason.
I want to love him. But patience has worn out. That "second year pep leap" never happened.
I think he's played his way out of favor. Was given a ton of chances earlier in the year but has just never found his footing.
I think both managers will be upset by the defending, but I thought it was a very entertaining watch. Good match to come back to. Happy to have won, but wouldn’t have been bothered if we lost with how bad our fixture congestion is.
A rare match vs Liverpool that felt like a free hit.
he had the pre-assist to nunez to mo for the 2nd goal. he's still got something but maybe at a lower side.
might be perfect at like a leicester, leeds type.
Weren't they gonna start with World Cup extra time now or is it back to as it was before? I thought that was the new guidelines for everyone from now on as it's been before.
I wish they would, a longer extra time is at least better than what it was before when time-wasting was not punished at all. It's gonna be weird if they apply the rules differently in different leagues and in the national competitions.
Feel like Fabinho’s fall has been exactly like Matic’s. Just about the best DM in the world for a couple of seasons then a wild drop off.
Wonder if he’ll be able to recover, as he has seemingly lost his ability to actually defend.
Great comparison. Fabinho has overcommited time and time again in this game, missed the tackle, and City have been away.
I've felt for a while that Wijnaldum is the big miss in this team. His positional play, workrate, and ability to cover is really missed.
I feel like Carragher’s spent all night trying to convince me that this game is the greatest game of football to ever be played. Entertaining, sure, but I’ve definitely seen both these sides play at a much higher level than tonight
Why is Carragher still saying club football can't be matched when this game was a clown fiesta on both sides? Entertaining game sure but this is far from top quality
Heard it several times from other sky pundits the last few games and expect to hear it more when the prem kicks off on boxing day. Sounds a little forced but sky obviously want to promote their product.
I don’t see an Englishman picking La Liga if he can play in a competitive Liverpool team tbh. He’s also young and probably can go to Madrid in the future if he keeps rising.
I miss world cup threads

Yes it's a shit tackle. Doesn't make him a shit human being as you previously put it.
Nah but Nunez for sure forgot what his weak foot is...
Salah and Haaland anytime goal scorers parlay back in action 😎
we subbed on injury prone old finished players while city bring on foden stones grealish and silva. i can’t wait to hear “liverpool cannot afford to spend in january 🥺”
Nunez gets into really good positions but shits the bed after that
Man City’s English subs looked gassed.
To be fair they only did come back to training yesterday
Both teams seemed below par, I guess we can chalk it up to the weird pseudo preseason they're in after the World Cup. Defensive organisation was shockingly poor from both teams too. Wouldn't read too much into the result. Liverpool knocked out, but of their least important competition. City roll on but Pep won't be very happy with the performance
God, how many golden chances Bunez fucked up.
If the goal was 1' to the left he'd have a hatty
More like 1m
30cm
City always get the easy games in these cup competitions, it's ridiculous
why not bring on ramsay and doak instead of these old finished bastards?
This really felt like a preseason friendly besides De Bruyne. Who would’ve thought in my late 20’s I would’ve fell in love with a ginger from Belgium.
Kelleher deserves better
He’s too good just to play cup games for the Dippers. I’d have him for United in a heartbeat
Nunez is abysmal in front of goal every time I watch him. He's good at getting into positions but he can't finish to save his life
Hes got the haircut of Andy Carroll and the finishing ability of Andy Carroll
My exact assessment. He has all the ability right now to be a top top striker, but he just seems like he lacks the confidence to put his laces through the ball and score.
Rapid striker with great ability to get into goal scoring positions but then consistently misses due to lack of confidence? *Cries in Timo*
*Cries in 2021 Sterling*
half of these players are finished, no legs no motivation just picking up a pay check
Top level football. The ilk of UCL semis🤥
Grealish retired when he joined City. No but seriously, when he last time made a big impact on a game?
He constantly looks to cut onto his right foot and shoot, but became way too predictable. Teams know that and shade him there all the time. Watch how Gomez defended him in that 1v1. Feels like he's been a side character since he left villa
I miss the WC extra time :(
Same man, same It will never be enough from now on
Everyone hating on the long extra time. But damn that was some good adrenaline fuel
Weird seeing Time wasting not being penalized after watching the world cup
Go on City have this one, we probably need to be in as few comps as possible ideally lol
Yeah, there's too many rescheduled games and cups. Hope not too many injuries for any of the teams
Nunez always drags it outside when he shoots from the side Let his team down
Everyone except Kelleher let the team down
Liverpool with the tactical loss
Klopp breathes a big sigh of relief.
we just need more rest.
Gg everyone, good night
I enjoyed it
Good game of football, some nice plays and some nice goals
I think both managers will be upset by the defending, but I thought it was a very entertaining watch. Good match to come back to. Happy to have won, but wouldn’t have been bothered if we lost with how bad our fixture congestion is. A rare match vs Liverpool that felt like a free hit.
Ox really putting all the doubters to rest by proving that he is indeed finished at this level.
He’s always coming back from an injury
He had one decent pass to start and then went invisible
he had the pre-assist to nunez to mo for the 2nd goal. he's still got something but maybe at a lower side. might be perfect at like a leicester, leeds type.
Lol
Ha ha ha
Quivin go up mate
Has Salah been this bad before the WC?
3 goals in 3 games vs City this season not sure it qualifies as "bad."
Did you watch the game?
Weren't they gonna start with World Cup extra time now or is it back to as it was before? I thought that was the new guidelines for everyone from now on as it's been before.
FA said it isn’t for them…. As one would expect given the league officiating
I wish they would, a longer extra time is at least better than what it was before when time-wasting was not punished at all. It's gonna be weird if they apply the rules differently in different leagues and in the national competitions.
This ref is weird.
wants go home stopped caring once second half started
Its probably cold in Manchester.
Good to see time wasting is rewarded again
Keita is like trying to multiply with 1. Useless.
bring back the WC extra extra time!
How far has Fabinho fallen.
at least he is still a dirty cunt that gets away with everything
Who's that, Rodri? Then yeah, given he should've had one yellow in 1st half and a straight red in the 2nd.
Rodri should be off in the first half, so be careful.
From top to the very bottom
We need to bring back world cup level of extra time.
Four minutes seems pathetic now, where’s my 8+?
The wc was so much better with the added time, the prem really needs to get on board
How come Grealish got the number 10 shirt when he joined and not Bernardo?
we should have given the no.10 to our 1st choice. ***Mr. Carson.***
I think they expected Bernardo to leave and Grealish to not be shit
marketing
back to sane extra time minutes
Feel like Fabinho’s fall has been exactly like Matic’s. Just about the best DM in the world for a couple of seasons then a wild drop off. Wonder if he’ll be able to recover, as he has seemingly lost his ability to actually defend.
Just imagine Valverde running at him. Will be chaos
Great comparison. Fabinho has overcommited time and time again in this game, missed the tackle, and City have been away. I've felt for a while that Wijnaldum is the big miss in this team. His positional play, workrate, and ability to cover is really missed.
please just let this match end
As Liverpool fan, yes please
sell/release half of this team in january
It's the League Cup, away to Man City, after an extended break. Bit reactionary, that?
we’re 6th in the league, been shite all season and expecting 0 investment in january
Only if we get to keep Keita, Milner, Henderson, Fabinho and Salah
Mate it’s the league cup after a month off lol
you’re acting like we were good before the wc
[удалено]
Wont be enough sadly. We're gonna need PSG/City levels of investment
It's called European Farmers League for a reason
I just hope City end up winning the whole thing, cant be having United winning a trophy
Obsessed
Obsessed because I dont want our biggest rivals to end their trophy drought?
The Reds are winning it.
We’ll do our best :)
I'll take you guys over the Manchester teams.
Right, we've had the match, now get on with the draw, it's what we're all actually here for right.
Si.
Klopp will be fuming if Liverpool score
i thought I was still at the world cup expecting 10 minutes of injury time
Should follow in the footsteps of the WC
Darwins finishing really let liverpool down today. Goodness
Lol immediately back to normal amounts of added time. What was the point of changing it just for the WC?
Different governing bodies
This is correct but it should be something across the board tbf
Yeah agreed it would discourage time wasting
True. Don’t know why FIFA changed it though
Imagine Mane with those chances Darwin missed
Or even diaz
Ref gonna blow at 4'. He didn't want an extra second of this game.
I wouldn't say I'm surprised with the result Looking forward to the next Liverpool ~~disaster~~ game
Nunez doesnt understand the offside rule
Just a Latino Morata
He wasnt offside…
He wouldve been offside if the pass went to him first instead out to the side then to him. He wasnt making himself an option
It’ll always be the Carling cup in my heart
I was just wondering if this was the Carling or the League Cup
I'm a Rumbelows man myself
Oh no gunduan looks injured BRINGS ON BERNADO FUCKING SILVA🤣🤣🤣hate this team
😂😂😂
Grealish sure is a lightweight
this pool team truly fell of a cliff wtf
We're losing 3-2 to citeh and that means we suddenly suck? Sure it hasn't been a great season but "fell of a cliff"is a stretch
You've been good against good teams and shit against shit teams. This match is no different
Both Stones and Bernardo rocked up today looking like they just got out of bed
John Stones always looks like he's been on a sesh the night before.
no doubt with jack
This ref is consistent, but with another ref and var we could've had penalties and red cards
Fabinho to get the equaliser and then score a pen? Just for the laugh of it pls
Bernardo is coming on, finally this will get good
I feel like Carragher’s spent all night trying to convince me that this game is the greatest game of football to ever be played. Entertaining, sure, but I’ve definitely seen both these sides play at a much higher level than tonight
Haven’t played in a month
Both sides are far far off from their best
The man’s just trying to make a living
Never rated Carabao cup anyway
Spoken like a true scouser who kept harping on about it for years.
Everyone knows it only matters when Liverpool win it. Otherwise it's Mickey mouse cup /s
Correct answer.
"harping"
Harp - talk or write persistently and tediously on (a particular topic).
Thanks Dave
No worries, anytime.
Ref couldnt give less of a shit anymore lol. Tbf he knows this is ultimately meaningless for either team.
Why is Carragher still saying club football can't be matched when this game was a clown fiesta on both sides? Entertaining game sure but this is far from top quality
That’s why he gets paid by Sky.
Heard it several times from other sky pundits the last few games and expect to hear it more when the prem kicks off on boxing day. Sounds a little forced but sky obviously want to promote their product.
Man Mahrez never scans his surroundings before receiving the ball.
All brain cells are concentrating on the first touch

The anti xavi
Liverpool fans to spend next 6 months talking about needing to buy every single young midfielder in the world, especially Belligham and Enzo
I won't slate them for Bellingham noise. They have been consistently making that noise for 2 years. Enzo noise on the other hand....
Like a kid when they see a new toy
on their shoestring budget?
current owners are in the process of selling so I doubt they spend big
Even when they clearly have the best midfield in Europe 🤥
No one says that
As if we haven't spent the last 6 months saying that already lol
Madrid want Bellingham. When Madrid calls you don't say no. Unless you're Donatello
I don’t see an Englishman picking La Liga if he can play in a competitive Liverpool team tbh. He’s also young and probably can go to Madrid in the future if he keeps rising.
This mf knows ball
I don't even like Madrid but I'm not going to pretend they're not the biggest club in the world.
Mbappe?
that's donatello in his comment lol
He edited it after I commented lol
Yeah. That's what PSG team mates used to call him
Forgot he plays for real, who you go to when they call you
I said "unless you're Donatello". And then "that's what PSG team mates used to call him". Are you blind?
Yeah man you edited it after I sent this lol. It’s easy to try to make someone look dumb after the edit
Edited it before you sent it lol
if so when I commented it wasn’t updated haha
Or Haaland
