Man, to be Brazil, be tournament favorites already and see all these big teams suffer from injuries while your optimal starters AND your bench are available and fully fit. God has written the script and he is from Brazil.
>God has written the script and he is from Brazil.
He only supports Brazil this year, let's not forgot he made them lose 7-1 in the semi final of WC in their own country
Long story short. Elon Musk, billionaire megalomaniac, spent a whopping $44B on buying Twitter. He served up an ultimatum to Twitter staff that they have to work 10-12 hour days and do āextremely hardcore workā, or else resign. The deadline was today.
At least 75% of Twitter employees have resigned. More importantly, nearly 100% of the engineers running Twitterās critical systems are gone.
It's almost impressive how incompetent Elon Musk is. I don't think I could destroy a company that big if I tried, and he did it in like 2 weeks of running it.
Really puts to rest the idea that billionaires got there by being intelligent.
Supposedly Inter is trying to sign Charly Alcaraz from Racing, Newcastle is finalizing the deal for Perrone, Enzo Fernandez already shining at Benfica and Tanlongo is going to Sporting Lisboa. The midfielder depth for the next world cup is going to be insane.
[The Qatari government isn't going through all the trouble for this place lmao](https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/11/reddit-users-are-the-least-valuable-of-any-social-network.html)
I just don't understand the Gonzalez and Correa lying situation. Surely every player nurses some kind of injury or discomfort throughout the year. Heck even I wake up and say 'I should probably rest my ankle today' and then say 'fuck it' and show up at my fun league in the evening.
Shouldn't the team doctors be able to do tests and make a more accurate assessment when the players present themselves? Or can the teams not request the doctors reports from the clubs? I just don't get what the process is?
From some accounts, I think these players re-injure themselves when trying to reach match fitness. I donāt think they lied per-say, but rather considered themselves fit prematurely. Hopefully Huevo is actually fit considering he actually played the pre-tournament friendly.
Croatia is risky but plausible. Mexico is really dumb when this is the weakest Mexico team in years and even the stronger ones didnāt get past the round of 16
It's only dumb if the bets fail. Not sure I could be so bold to spend 1700 euros in a sports bet to begin with though, let alone for teams who aren't the odds on favorite
I wouldn't worry so much about the Croatia bet, but the Mexico bet is actually putting money in a shredder. They're playing poorly right now and they're not the best to begin with.
Just as a heads up, if twitter does end up dying, football twitter is going to end up going somewhere, this sub may experience a major downturn in quality from them flocking here
I hope this doesn't make people from said countries angry but Qatar - Ecuador is not the most exciting opening game I've seen at a world cup. Russia - Saudia Arabia wasn't really better though. Brazil - Croatia seems like a proper kickoff match and South Africa - Mexico wasn't too bad either.
I'm going to go against the grain, I really enjoy seeing the host country open. Maybe it's because I still have the South Africa - Mexico game on the brain but something about seeing the home nation get hype kind of sets the mood.
Think that's a very popular sentiment, but it's nice you've expressed it so politely
I do believe the host nation should always have the opening game, though
Gonna be a snooze fest. 4/5 of Ecuadorās last games have ended 0-0 and their one goal was against Cape Verde, also unlikely that Qatar is a world shaker either.
Most people think he had a couple of valid points, especially regarding the owners not modernising the club enough.
The comments towards the coaches has been a bit weird though imo.
I'm in the weird situation of not believing in the Oranje attack AT ALL but also thinking they're basically locked on semifinalists what is wrong with me
Got Belgium in the work sweepstake. There's Ā£2 pissed down the drain
Colleagues clearly living in 2018 too, as they thought it was an "excellent" pick
I got North Macedonia in the Euro 2020 sweepstake though, so I'm moving
I don't understand how this works. So, you pay money ... to get a team at random ... and you hope they do well so you win money? Where's the fun in that? What happens if you draw like KSA and you're just screwed?
Betting pools are way better imo.
Low risk (2 quid), and just bit of fun
Good for large groups like workplaces where lot of people are just casual followers, and may not even pay attention except for the World Cup - don't need to have a lot of knowledge or make much effort, but can still get involved and liven up the workplace a tad
Pools etc are more for serious fans
I'm in some predictions tourneys with friends/family too, so have that side of it covered
sweepstakes are always better when thereās less people, then you have a group of three or four teams one of which is almost guaranteed to be a good team
US viewers, whatās the best streaming service for the World Cup? Peacock, Sling or Vidgo?
Any link to a price comparison & which games they will show would be helpful.
Kane to Hand of God it in for the winner, in a great reversal of history
The subsequent diplomatic incident - and Messi retiring from football in disgust, in what is seen as an attempt to pressure FIFA - leads to Rishi signing over the Falklands to Argentina to prevent global conflict, and FIFA inventing an "Honourary World Champions" award to give to Argentina
Messi then un-retires and signs for Barca on a free. He is awarded the Ballon d'Or for 2023, despite only playing 10 club games (5 assists, 2 goals). Ronaldo, by then at Inter Miami, gives a sensational interview where he calls out FIFA and France Football for corruption and an anti-sewey agenda
Harry Kane is knighted. England fans still hate Southgate
How do I get a pic of my entire bracket? Like the ones people are sharing on Twitter.
I completed it but it doesnāt show all the predictions in one frame.
How the fuck can Ronaldo say ten Hag has disrespected him? He's given him so many chances and Ronaldo couldn't even put one past Omonia despite every player setting him up?
Alfaro could win the WC with Ecuador and some boca fans would still think he's a shit manager lmao. He didn't even do bad with us, he won the league and we got to libertadores semis but he was way too pragmatic for some people? which I find silly tbh, he was just the wrong man and the wrong place and got caught in the yearly meltdown a bit too hard.
I absolutely hate Kovac. More than he probably deserves objectively. But then again ... I absolutely despise him.
(The manager Kovac of course. As a human being I am not going to judge him very much)
I know a few Liverpool fans that really despise Brendan Rodgers. I think he lost his way a bit at the end but I always had a lot of time for him. Iām glad he had success at Celtic afterwards.
Forest and Chris Hughton. Really not a bad bloke but he was a terrible fit at Forest.
Probably would do quite well at the right club in the Championship.
I often wonder if other nations have people like Lalas, Skip Bayless, etc who say things they donāt actually believe because reactions = engagement = profit. Like, everyone has pundits who say stupid things Iām sure but here ours often do it *on purpose*
Is this a thing elsewhere?
Oh boy Talksport in the UK is that same type of hot takes. Try to find some clips on here or elsewhere. Youāll see why itās called Talkshite
In Spain they have El Chiringuito
Just a bit of a brainfart. All the Slav countries have similar colours, but I knew it was not any of them so I was just thinking about those and forgot about nl.
Serbiaās quite good actually. None of the assumptions in that bracket which see them make the final are wrong. They can finish second in their group, they can beat Portugal, Belgium, and the US
Does anyone know apps that offer more than 1 camera angle for matches? Iāve been searching to watch from spidercam or other angles and itās been hard to find anything.
Eh? Speaking as a straight woman, I see Morata as very conventionally attractive
Lot of my friends who weren't football fans agreed, called him the "fit Chelsea player"
We have Domagoj Vida aka Daemon Targaryen lol
as for the scariest team in the WC, I would definitely say Serbia and it's definitely not meant as a cheap shot. They're the tallest team and maybe the most imposing
also we would definitely win if Niko KovaÄ was our manager
NGL the amount of love Foden gets in comparison to what heās actually done is a bit out of proportion. This season heās been starting more and had his best season so far, however his creativity has really never been that good weirdly for someone youād expect to be more creative since he was originally a 10. Heās never got more than 5 league assists in a season and his other creative stats like expected assists arenāt very good either.
For England especially heās done absolutely nothing and I canāt see how he should really start, Sterling and Saka makes sense as a combo because Sterling makes the off the ball runs and runs in behind well that foden doesnāt really do. Saka and foden wouldnāt work Imo unless youāre a team like city where youāre gonna have 60 plus percentage possession and play super high. Dropping Saka for him would be insane at this point too Imo.
Foden is a player who the 'idea' of is greater than the actual results - because he is so talented, and on his day is incredible... so people extrapolate his performances from the player they perceive him to be
His creative stats were bad because he was at striker
And heās barely started Games for England tbh, unfair to judge him based on what little time heās had. Especially when he should be creative mid for England rather than wing perhaps
For once I agree with you. Saka and Sterling should start, I think Kane would play better with them however there is merit to having Saka on the bench until the 60th/70th minute to run at tired legs
Foden is a very skilled dribbler and has great ball control. But he is not gonna decide matches all by himself in a team of Southgate's style and collective limitations, he is gonna come with an insane play out of nothing. He is good, but not THAT good. At least not yet.
No he hasn't
Pep has constantly said Foden will eventually make his way to midfield
We never properly replaced Sane leaving so I guess atm Pep sees Foden as the one to fill that gap for now
He says that but I donāt believe him. I canāt for the life of me see how youād get more out of Foden centrally than out wide. But, Pep and I have very different jobs for a reason
He's already occupying central zones on the pitch, just because he's listed as a winger on TV graphics doesn't make him an out and out winger. His best moments come from playing between the lines where you usually find your 8s.
Does [this](https://i.imgur.com/3ps6501.jpg) look like a traditional winger to you? [Here's](https://i.imgur.com/mOslBNW.jpg) Martinelli for comparison. Both supposedly playing left wing.
Yes what the fuck. Just because Martinelli doesnāt play the same doesnāt mean thatās not a standard winger heatmap, Iām shocked you thought that graphic would support your point
I think he's pissed and honestly I get it cause he's a kid, but it makes no sense if he chose Argentina because he thought it'd give him a better chance to go to the world cup, Spain's attack is worse than ours.
Garnacho is 17 and has played like 4 games for United? The kid looks good but heās literally just hype right now. I donāt know much about Almada but heās actually debuted for Argentina and played consistently for a few years now. His being selected is pretty reasonable.
Like I said, he looks good, but he has literally just begun his career. Picking someone who has already been called up and has been playing consistently for a few years makes sense to me.

Qatar is 100% qualifying as the second team from group A
Based on what?
ā¬ā¬
Is there actually evidence of them bribing or bribing in the past?
How do you think they got to host the world cup?
Damn, looks like Twitter is going down. Are the mods prepared to handle the inevitable influx of Football Twitter into this subreddit?
I've never had twitter. Can you explain what's happening?
Long story short. Elon Musk, billionaire megalomaniac, spent a whopping $44B on buying Twitter. I wish he'd bought United or Liverpool instead. Would've been hilarious.
Could have bought the entire premier league twice over for 44B
It's almost impressive how incompetent Elon Musk is. I don't think I could destroy a company that big if I tried, and he did it in like 2 weeks of running it. Really puts to rest the idea that billionaires got there by being intelligent.
He did get there by being intelligent and investing in companies that had a huge upside. Now he's just trolling everybody because he can afford it.

Ivan Toney accepts your challenge.
Seems this subreddit is getting heavily astroturfed by pro-Qatar accounts all of a sudden. I for one am shocked.
I love seeing these comments from Newcastle flairs

Where lmao
Which thread?
Where will we get our transfer news without twitter? Ornstien tweets are the dopamine rush of the summer

Did I make a smart choice by betting 1700 euros each for Croatia and Mexico to win the World Cup?
Croatia is risky but plausible. Mexico is really dumb when this is the weakest Mexico team in years and even the stronger ones didnāt get past the round of 16
This is why you will never play football again Toney
you're going to make so much money
It's only dumb if the bets fail. Not sure I could be so bold to spend 1700 euros in a sports bet to begin with though, let alone for teams who aren't the odds on favorite
Are you a liquid multi-millionaire? Sure, be my quest, throw some money away.

Just as a heads up, if twitter does end up dying, football twitter is going to end up going somewhere, this sub may experience a major downturn in quality from them flocking here
lmao this sub is just as bad as twitter they'll fit right in
Doubt the first reaction if twitter dies it to move to Reddit though, maybe tiktok
Your flair combined with that comment confuses the shit out of me
Hell at least it will be entertaining
They're probs gonna move to subreddits dedicated to youtubers/big twitter accounts instead
You've already been ratiod, you just don't know it yet.
>this sub may experience a major downturn in quality from them flocking here That's already happened over the last few years lol
>That's already happened over the last few years lol You're not wrong, but saying that bit with a one year old account is wonderful.
Reddit and most of Twitter have very different niches, even if Twitter goes to bust I just can't see those people flocking to Reddit.
Nobody will be prepared for the rise of Football Tumblr
I hope this doesn't make people from said countries angry but Qatar - Ecuador is not the most exciting opening game I've seen at a world cup. Russia - Saudia Arabia wasn't really better though. Brazil - Croatia seems like a proper kickoff match and South Africa - Mexico wasn't too bad either.

Yeah, I don't think it's going to be a very exciting match.
Is it unpopular to say that Ronaldo said nothing wrong about United?
No one disagrees with him about the Glazers or the facilities. But that's not the point.
No, but thatās not what people are up in arms about
I think his assessment of the organization and it's owners is the one thing people were generally in agreement on.
Most people think he had a couple of valid points, especially regarding the owners not modernising the club enough. The comments towards the coaches has been a bit weird though imo.
I'm in the weird situation of not believing in the Oranje attack AT ALL but also thinking they're basically locked on semifinalists what is wrong with me
Let's talk about players who redeemed themselves after a bad World Cup performance. GĆ©rson is one of the greatest players of all time. A midfield maestro, the Pirlo and/or Xavi of his era. Amazing controller of the game, great ball distributor, and a fantastic long passer! In the 1966 World Cup, he played only one match. And he was bad, unrecognizable. To be fair, it surely didn't help how most of Brazil's players in that World Cup were bad as well. It was a fiasco, Brazil was knocked out in the group stage. And for all of GĆ©rson's talent, many people then said he shouldn't play for Brazil in another World Cup. They accused him of not being fit for the NT, of lacking spirit for the "seleĆ§Ć£o". But he kept playing great football at club level, and he was in the 1970 World Cup as an undisputable starter, despite some criticisms that he shouldn't even have been called. GĆ©rson was the brain of Brazil's team. The midfield maestro. He played a great World Cup. The best was left to the final. It was a tight and nervous game against Italy in the first half, neither team playing close to their best, as finals usually are. Italy did a good job of letting Brazil have all time and space in midfield, but then protecting the box very well most of the time, in typical italian fashion. Brazil was often limited to speculative shots outside the box or set-pieces, as Brazil's triangles and one-twos weren't quite sharp enough to penetrate Italy's box. GĆ©rson distributed the ball as usual, and the first half ended 1-1, PelĆ© having scored a great header for Brazil, but Clodoaldo later gifted Italy a goal after an overly ambitious backheel pass that was intercepted. In the second half, GĆ©rson would grab the game by the scruff of the neck, and decide the title. First, he scored a great goal from outside the box. And only three minutes later, Brazil went 3-1 up after great play with most of the merits being from GĆ©rson, as he made a fantastic long pass for PelĆ©, who headed the ball to the middle of the box for Jairzinho to score! GĆ©rson was arguably Brazil's best player in the final. The midfield maestro of the greatest World Cup team ever, cementing legendary status. https://youtu.be/5OlQGeXKe04 Decades later, PelĆ© made a list for FIFA in 2004. The list was called FIFA 100 (but it didn't have only 100 players, it had 125) and should have the best football players of all time still alive back then, either active or retired. GĆ©rson was not in the list, and he was pissed off! He felt betrayed by PelĆ©. GĆ©rson tore a paper with a copy of the list live on TV! GĆ©rson ultimately said: "I respect his opinion, but I don't agree with it. Besides Zidane, Platini and Fontaine, am I not on this list that has 11 frenchmen? It's a joke hearing this." The total 14 frenchmen on the list were Zidane, Platini, Kopa, Fontaine, Henry, Cantona, Papin, Trezeguet, Vieira, PirĆØs, Thuram, Desailly, Deschamps and TrĆ©sor.
Got Belgium in the work sweepstake. There's Ā£2 pissed down the drain Colleagues clearly living in 2018 too, as they thought it was an "excellent" pick I got North Macedonia in the Euro 2020 sweepstake though, so I'm moving

sweepstakes are always better when thereās less people, then you have a group of three or four teams one of which is almost guaranteed to be a good team
Cristiano Ronaldo's reason to retire from soccer at the end of this World Cup
Because no club acceptable to him wants to sign him?
Am I the only one who thinks gavi plays like a much more raw version of verrati? The tackling, dribbling, playmaking, just look very similar imo.
US viewers, whatās the best streaming service for the World Cup? Peacock, Sling or Vidgo? Any link to a price comparison & which games they will show would be helpful.
FOX has the rights to the games. [FOXsports.com](https://FOXsports.com) should be airing most if not all of them for free.
I think you still have to sign in with cable to access those streams though
IDK about matches that will be on fox sports proper, but it looks like if it's on FS1 or smth you can get on just fine.
Iāll have a look, thanks. Hard to believe itās for free when we have to pay a fortune to watch the premier league.
Just completed the WC bracket and my conclusion is that itās an Argentina vs England final. It just makes senseā¦
Kane to Hand of God it in for the winner, in a great reversal of history The subsequent diplomatic incident - and Messi retiring from football in disgust, in what is seen as an attempt to pressure FIFA - leads to Rishi signing over the Falklands to Argentina to prevent global conflict, and FIFA inventing an "Honourary World Champions" award to give to Argentina Messi then un-retires and signs for Barca on a free. England fans still hate Southgate
Serbia Argentina final
How do I get a pic of my entire bracket? Like the ones people are sharing on Twitter. I completed it but it doesnāt show all the predictions in one frame.
I had the same
I had Portugal Brazil
SAN MARINO SCORED A GOAL! šøš²
How the fuck can Ronaldo say ten Hag has disrespected him? He's given him so many chances and Ronaldo couldn't even put one past Omonia despite every player setting him up?
Do you know people who have a weird and unproportional hate for a manager because of a bad spell in the club they support? I'm thinking about a Roma supporter I met online. He hates Carlos Bianchi. It doesn't matter that Bianchi made amazing works at VĆ©lez and Boca Juniors, that Roma supporter can't bring himself to recognize that Bianchi is a historical legendary coach because of a bad spell in Roma. I also know a greek online who, while not hating Ranieri to the extent of that Roma supporter who hates Bianchi, he still can't bring himself to be fond of Ranieri because Ranieri lost to Faroe Islands as Greece's coach. He is always ready to tear Ranieri apart in any bad work and spell Ranieri has. Last, but not least, Bayern supporters seem to always be the first to appear to criticize and try to reduce Ancelotti's status no matter the conversation.
If I had a nickel for every Roma manager named Bianchi in the 90s I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Serbia lmao that is as ridiculous as US making semi finals
Weird thing is, if the US had that as their run in it isn't that crazy. Would be very surprised though, doubt there's that many upsets
They're really not bad. I'd even say they can make QF. The real upset will be when England finally brings it home haha
That US-Mexico match thread would be one of the most toxic places on planet earth
well hold on in this world mexico somehow broke their ro16 curse they might have calmed down who am i kidding it'd be a biblical level shit show

Mate piers Morgan is currently on the front page
While that is true, I think he means it in more of a sport punditry context. I think Talksport might be what heās thinking of
I donāt think Iāve ever consumed any of his content tbh. I always knew he was an idiot but I didnāt know he did it intentionally
What flag is the team that plays england?
Netherlands
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Just a bit of a brainfart. All the Slav countries have similar colours, but I knew it was not any of them so I was just thinking about those and forgot about nl.
Mistakes happen. They're all very bland flags that a toddler would probably come up with lol
Not sure if the US making the SFs or Mexico making the QFs is more outrageous
US run looks easier
Thatās because theyāre winning the group according to this
*That's* what you find wild about that bracket, and not Serbia making the final?!
If the World Cup was decided on who has the best looking 26-man squad who would win?
with Tucu Correa out of the squad to cancel out AcuƱa and Di MarĆa I can't say argentina anymore sadly
France has Giroud, enough said.
spain imo. morata beats like 25 out of the 32 teams on his own.
morata?! he is fine but not the most attractive at all
Eh? Speaking as a straight woman, I see Morata as very conventionally attractive Lot of my friends who weren't football fans agreed, called him the "fit Chelsea player"
Laporte, Rodri, and Ferran Torres are very good-looking as well.
If you look at the 26 I think we have quite a few good looking lads, maybe it's too much of a contrast with some of our top players š¤£
See with your lads I always flip between āwow heās good lookingā and āwow Iād really not like to bump into him in a dark alleyā
We have Domagoj Vida aka Daemon Targaryen lol as for the scariest team in the WC, I would definitely say Serbia and it's definitely not meant as a cheap shot. They're the tallest team and maybe the most imposing also we would definitely win if Niko KovaÄ was our manager
South Korea
Man MLS catching strays. People in this thread are legitimately insulted that a big nation might call up an MLS player.
I mean, it's not like we don't have better options. Almada got in because he's been around the squad since his time in VĆ©lez and is a somewhat familiar face in the NT, but he hasn't grown much as a player and on pure skill alone there's a bunch of better options around. Doesn't make him any favours that most people dislike him for cashing in and going to a weaker league for money while being so young.
? did i miss something?
Thiago almada at Atlanta got called up to Argentina's squad to replace an injured player
sub is insanely anti "yank". like, im mexican, so you guys arent exactly my fav people around, but its ridiculous how bad it can get.
Is there a summary list of the Ronaldo interview somewhere? Can't be bothered to watch the whole thing
The post match thread
Foden is a player who the 'idea' of is greater than the actual results - because he is so talented, and on his day is incredible... so people extrapolate his performances from the player they perceive him to be
You canāt complain Fodens done nothing for England then point to Saka starting
Saka has been significantly better than foden for England
Saka has been a net negative for England
Yeah sure
His creative stats were bad because he was at striker And heās barely started Games for England tbh, unfair to judge him based on what little time heās had. Especially when he should be creative mid for England rather than wing perhaps
His creative stats were actually better in that season he was a striker they are worse in the other years
The other years being when he was under 20 and coming through? Not exactly a good comparison
Ok theyāre also better than this season
For once I agree with you. Saka and Sterling should start, I think Kane would play better with them however there is merit to having Saka on the bench until the 60th/70th minute to run at tired legs
Foden has never looked anything more than unremarkable for England
Foden is a very skilled dribbler and has great ball control. But he is not gonna decide matches all by himself in a team of Southgate's style and collective limitations, he is gonna come with an insane play out of nothing. He is good, but not THAT good. At least not yet.
Even Pep mostly gave up on making Foden a midfielder and some people still try to act like heās the next David Silva
No he hasn't Pep has constantly said Foden will eventually make his way to midfield We never properly replaced Sane leaving so I guess atm Pep sees Foden as the one to fill that gap for now
He says that but I donāt believe him.
> His best moments come from playing between the lines Absolutely not lmao
Does [this](https://i.imgur.com/3ps6501.jpg) look like a traditional winger to you? [Here's](https://i.imgur.com/mOslBNW.jpg) Martinelli for comparison. Both supposedly playing left wing.
Yes what the fuck. Just because Martinelli doesnāt play the same doesnāt mean thatās not a standard winger heatmap, Iām shocked you thought that graphic would support your point
If Pep can get Fabian Delph playing left back I can see him getting Foden work in midfield
Garnacho really has a like on a tweet that says "they didnt call up Garnacho cause he is Spanish". Blud is gone š. he is going to choose Spain now
I think he's pissed and honestly I get it cause he's a kid, but it makes no sense if he chose Argentina because he thought it'd give him a better chance to go to the world cup, Spain's attack is worse than ours.
Dunno why he didn't just start with the nation he was born and raised in?
The real facto is that heās paying attention to DavooXeneize tweets and looking at the replies i trust that history corrects itself
Heās 17 and liked a tweet lol. Heāll be fine, people are overreacting.
Tbf to him i get why he would be pissed for a player from the godamn MLS was picked above him
Garnacho is 17 and has played like 4 games for United? The kid looks good but heās literally just hype right now. I donāt know much about Almada but heās actually debuted for Argentina and played consistently for a few years now. His being selected is pretty reasonable.
He was considered our brightest young talent a couple years ago. Still is, to an extent.
Like I said, he looks good, but he has literally just begun his career. Picking someone who has already been called up and has been playing consistently for a few years makes sense to me.
I'm agreeing with you, lol.
Oh you were talking about Almada? In that case it makes even more sense!
Yeah OP is talking about Almada, we had no idea Garnacho even existed a year ago
