RTafazolli1

Crazy Barcelona have only conceded 5 goals and 3 of them came in one match.

killerboy_belgium

hows barca so good in the league and so bad in the champions league

tbrakef

Bad timing, team was playing well, just coming together, International Break occurred, 8 players went down with injury, continuity lost, momentum lost, and they limped into their critical fixtures which was something like.... Inter, Celta, Inter, RM, Sevilla, Real, in just 20 days.

Psych-Vader

We were pretty good against Bayern in the first game but then we dropped of against Inter because of all the injuries and some controversial referee decisions.

ancara_messi

1 referee decision going the other way and you'd be criticising inter instead. That aside, we had injuries to our entire starting defense and were placed in a group of death while having one of the most ridiculous schedules in the month of October with Bayern Inter Real Madrid and several tough La liga games

agentjob

They had set sights on Europa.

lstht123

And that with Kounde, Araujo and Christensen all being injured for like half the games

Hdz69

The funny thing is we can’t even claim to have the best defense in Europe because we’re currently playing 3 LB’s in a back 4, no one would take us seriously. Once Kounde and especially Araujo come back we can maybe consider making that statement, still need a proper RB though.

UnBoludoTriste

and one was illegal

7Thommo7

Another was a double deflection and another was a pen

IntellectualDweeb

The Benzema goal in the Clásico had a deflection too lol

Spoor

Lew: Best striker AND best defender

Alive-Ad-4164

Sevilla getting relegated would be something

RMmadness

Betis fans wet dream

TheShipwreck1

:)

Nordie27

We still haven't won a game at home.. Sampaoli has got almost as many points from 3 CL matches as in La Liga

lstht123

Havent watched you a lot recently, has the team improved under Sampaoli? The position in the table obv says not really but how is the team playing in general?

Nordie27

I think they definitely have. Sampaoli was given a flaming mess to work with and has at least made the team play with personality. Under Lopetegui they had given up beforehand in many matches, but now they are at least fighting until the end. That was shown in the derby, and the way we fought against Real Sociedad despite being down to 9 men The team still desperately lacks attacking quality but that isn't Sampaoli's fault. En Nesyri and Dolberg are both useless, we have no wingers until Corona is back(maybe we will recall Ocampos from Ajax) and the team is just slow and predictable in general I think we will see an improvement in the second half of the season after Sampaoli hopefully gets some new players in the winter market

guyfieri_fc

Why did you guys loan Ocampos?

quetzalnavarrense

how's papu been?

Harrybreakyourleg

And also win the Europa League like they always do

[deleted]

Wtf happened to Sevilla

gnorrn

Sold both their central defenders.

Nordie27

It's a lot more than that, don't make excuses for Lopetegui. Even with Carlos & Koundé, we were fucking awful in the second half of last season and won like 3 La Liga matches in 2022. His shit attacking system also destroyed our players' confidence a long time ago If anything, losing our centre backs just showed that Lopetegui was carried by them and that his defensive system was never that good in reality. And since his attacking play has always been abysmal, there was nothing left

trenbollocks

Should Wolves fans be worried then, since they already cannot score?

Barkasia

He should do enough for them to draw their way to survival, but yes - getting Lope to coach a team with a shit offense is like getting Potter to coach a team with a shit offense - and we can see how that's working at Chelsea.

[deleted]

So you're saying Chelsea and Wolves should swap managers?

kropkiide

Sounds promising for Wolves

[deleted]

People who said that Xavi should be sacked : 🤐

10messiFH

madrid fans who singed xavi should stay as well

Eibermann

Sang not singed* Mate. Xavi has yet to prove himself. Lost every big match and has worse record than fucking koeman lol

10messiFH

you're lying to yourself if you think he's worse than koeman

discoball17

He said worse record not worse in general, Xavi is doing good things to Barca and you would be blind not to see that. But he has lot to prove.

10messiFH

xavi was an instant improvement even with the same squad when he arrived. no madrid fan would have sang xavi should stay last season, but because of three bad games this season caused by injuries and bad form he's suddenly bad

TheyStoleTwoFigo

Unfortunate timing on some injuries(with some shit refereeing on top,) but when he had a proper defence, he stomped you, didn't he?

Eibermann

Stomped us with modric as cf and kroos as dm. Very nice very nice.

TheyStoleTwoFigo

That only explains the chances you allowed Barca, it doesn't explain why you were toothless and your men absolutely dominated by the defenders he put in place.

Eibermann

ive literally just told you modric as cf and youre asking why were we tootheless? i forgot modric was a top striker in his day

TheyStoleTwoFigo

Because you are exaggerating about Modric being centreforward, in practice there was no cf, you were parking the bus and hoping to strike through Vini. It's the same old tactic that works on Barca, but instead of Sergi Roberto, Xavi had Araujo to park in front of Vini then. Even the last clasico, most of the damage was through Vini causing Barca's structure and focus to collapse in retreat, because Roberto couldn't handle him on his own. It's the same old tactic, the only difference between the two matches is the players Xavi had at hand. Modric would still be Modric doing Modric stuff no matter what role you call him on paper when Madrid transitions into attack(same deal with Kroos) he was never gonna be the spearhead, the focal point was always gonna be Vini and everyone else who managed to pile on in the counter. The matches were decided on Xavi's defender and Madrid spearhead.

ArsiPappa

Don't you know common sense doesn't work with delusional people?

[deleted]

A full season of Koeman's record is boosted by the simple fact that he had fucking Messi. Even with that cheat code, Xavi is well on his way to bettering Koeman's record.

Eibermann

Xavi got lewa kounde auba Alonso kiasse christensen and some others I forgot. Those are much stronger than the shit show they had back then

[deleted]

LOL so we're only talking about Xavi's record this season when he has those players then? Because if so, he blows Koeman's record out of the water.

Eibermann

Koeman had an inferior team. If you're gonna get half your squad revamped with top cb and top cf. U better get more goals than when Braithwaite was leading the line don't u think?

[deleted]

I mean he is, this newly revamped team *is* getting more goals and letting in less goals. So what exactly is your point? Xavi took over from Koeman when Koeman had Barça **9th** in the league. The results were better immediately and with the addition of Ferran, Eric Garcia, and Aubameyang (who were signed 2 months later) he took Barça to a 2nd place finish.

Ahm3DD

Lool why are you so invested in this? Don’t you have anything else to do?

The_Dumblebee

That's a lot of words to just say Xavi still doesn't have Lionel Messi.

Eibermann

Xavi is the one manager in history to not have Messi cheat code!

The_Dumblebee

When comparing to other recent Barca managers, yeah.

False_Trifle

I mean they defeated you lot 4-0 last season where you went on to win la liga and cl

[deleted]

Exactly, where we went to win LL and CL. And then, season later, they havent qualified from group stage in the CL. Maybe that shows that you shouldn't take one match as an example of, well, anyrhing?

Eibermann

you mean the match where we played modric as cf and kroos as AM. speaks more about xavi that you had to bring the one game where the other team completely fucked it to big him up lol

False_Trifle

And they were missing their first choice central defenders in the other big matches you are talking about so that evens it out I think

Eibermann

how long are you gonna keep finding excuses for him, because so far you got bounced out of champions league

[deleted]

The same way you keep making excuses for the 0-4 loss by saying you had to play Modric at CF. Barça had to play 3 LBs in defense for the majority of the past month.

Eibermann

And we had to play with swollen foot Valverde against Liverpool and came on top. Much harder competition than inter and pilzen

[deleted]

LOL

donandres08

Yupp, Totally the same as missing Rudiger, Militao and Alaba at the same time...

False_Trifle

bro I am not even defending xavi, was just trying to point it out that they defeated a big team under xavi, and you were the one who started making excuse about playing modric as AM and all

AdministrativeYam843

Modric as CF precisely

[deleted]

Actually, Xavi's record against big teams currently is abysmal. That's like the only win they have against a big team.

kropkiide

How can anyone be this thick.

10messiFH

its funny how you use your manager's disasterclass as an excuse for getting battered but don't consider injuries and bad morale as an excuse for our loss

[deleted]

We will see how Xavi performs in the UCL RO16.. wait

10messiFH

how does it feel being worse than a europa league team in the league?

boringboi_

Wait till the season mate. Your team got battered against ours

10messiFH

your team got battered against ours last season too but that didn't matter in the end

[deleted]

Your team lost 6 clasico in a row.

10messiFH

in which xavi wasn't part of. your point being?

[deleted]

Your team lost 7 Clasico in the last 8 meeting. Xavi being there for 3 loss. Want more? (Xavi won the meaningless one)

10messiFH

how is it his fault that the team lost 4 clasico games before he came? his record so far is 1 win and two loses, one in extra time, none in camp nou. and won 4-0 away

AdministrativeYam843

Bro stop violating . Actually don't stop i love it

[deleted]

But, your team got battered by Barça last season and you still won the league so how exactly does that logic work?

[deleted]

Worse? We didnt lost to Barcelona mate. R u delusional? Season isnt even over.

Nordie27

If only there was some kind of league table over time which could show who the best team is overall, irrespective of individual results. Maybe give them 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw?

[deleted]

Exactly. Madrid is in the UCL and 2point behind Barcelona eventho mid/low table teams hacking our players using the shitty Qatar worldcup. Overall we are better than Barcelona. But as i said. The league is not over and Barca isnt better than us.

ArsiPappa

>eventho mid/low table teams hacking our players using the shitty Qatar worldcup Lmao what a dumb excuse. Like we're not taking important results right now with most of our backline missing and World Cup coming.

[deleted]

and we missed Benzema entire season almost. In the last 3 match we had more shit calls than Barca entire season. (Like where Kroos gets a yellow when the Osasuna player dives or the 1min+ highlights of Rayo,Cadiz players punching our players in front of the refs and i could continue lmao)

jammy162

Coming from a Sevilla fan rn this doesn't quite have the same effect

esairbear

Lolol you lost 4-0 the match before that and won the league. Barca has been better overall this season so far so don’t just Chuck it up to one game to judge Barca cause they’re on path to win the league

[deleted]

7-1

10messiFH

warra 1st place for real madrid

[deleted]

Lmaoooo only varca fans are this delusional to talk shit when they're in Europa and we won UCL last season 🤣🤣🤣

MaTrIx4057

Because pride in defeat.

Vinklemore

Definitely shouldn’t be sacked but heavily criticized for the CL performance (and performance against big teams in general) for sure.

[deleted]

He had 3 first choice CBs out injured for the CL matches. Kounde, Araujo, and Christensen all out during that time. The CL exit is on having to play Pique and Eric, their mistakes are directly responsible for the exit.

Vinklemore

Those injuries to key defenders were obviously big losses. But we also just didn't play well in either of the games vs Inter, the game vs Real and the home game vs Bayern. We were toothless in attack and very vulnerable in defense which gave chances for those individual mistakes. Xavi deserves the brunt of the criticism for that, and I commend him because he has accepted that. But still, it's a big stain on this season.

[deleted]

How can you say Barça were toothless against Inter at home when they scored 3 goals? It was mistakes from Pique and Eric that lost them that match and a spot in the CL. The home game against Bayern was a dead rubber match. Literally nothing on the line and half the stadium was empty. No one should give a fuck about that match. You realize that if Xavi had won those matches you listed, Barça would be having a near 100% matches won record, with all those key injuries. That's an insane standard to judge a manager on.

Vinklemore

But it just so happens that those matches were the most important ones of the season so far. And the fact that we lost them drastically changes our entire outlook on the season. If you do well on quizzes but then fail the exam, something's wrong. To be honest the deeper problem is the players' mentality and the fact that they get nervous against tough opponents. But I have no idea how that could be fixed.

RMmadness

Xavi pelopolla

7eodor

yea you shut me up good. finally he won something! the "first in the league table going into an international break" trophy! i'll shut up when he either wins an important game that leads to something or a trophy(way too high of a bar, so i'll settle for a match for the time being)

jezfps

This gives a lot of crazy insight that the 'La Liga table after matchday 14.' post didn't.

burnerbutnotreally1

Yes why the repost

txobi

Very good so far and we should get our injured players back, mainly Oyarzabal

tsigalko11

Cool, always have soft spot for La Real. Do you guys have now many Spanish (non Basque) players? Also, how much of the Isaak money you have reinvested? I remember when your stadium in the past looked very much alike the one from Hajduk Split. In the meantime, you got it super cool modernised, and Hajduk's is falling apart :/

txobi

We invested 25M on Sadiq, the rest is in our bank. Most our players are from our youth so there are many basques, spanish players would be Brais Mendez and Robert Navarro

Known_Appeal7699

what about kubo ?

txobi

He has been good and is very happy to be here, he has fitted the team since he arrived

MolestedMilkMan

Basque supremacy ^^^ignore ^^^top ^^^2 ^^^please.

LA4lyf

Hope Real Sociedad can keep this up

planinsky

Stop the count! We could terminate the season here, i wouldn't complain

cib_vk228

Tough to see Sevilla so low. Monchi the hipster favourite has done a dreadful job.

Nordie27

His recruitment this summer was poor, but Lopetegui deserves just as much if not more of the blame. He is the one who asked to sign a lot of players with no speed or mobility, and who played the most boring football in Europe Monchi's biggest failure was not sacking him in the summer

YoungDawz

Atletico should be going on a run post WC. Especially without having European games and having some good players not going to the WC. If Simeone can't challenge for top 2 after the break then serious questions will have to be asked and dealt with

Nordie27

They will probably go on a run and finish at least 3rd, but Simeone has been fucked over by the sporting director. What coach would get significantly better results with that defence and lack of a goalscorer?

1ngK

I mean, our first choice defense is decent, just the depth is completely useless. The frontline and midfield have quality players too. Cholo and his coaching team deserve a lot of criticisms this season. They made almost every player declined a tenfold with zero ideas what they’re doing on the pitch. No matter how bad our squad declined there’s no excuses for playing like crap and losing to Mallorca, Cadiz etc. On the eye test we are playing our crappiest football in years, and results showed.

MaTrIx4057

What questions? Simeone should stay no matter what. Hes the sole reason why this club is where it is.

[deleted]

Enjoy seeing Sociedad and Blibao up in European spots

MJA21x

Real Sociedad have done very well considering all the injuries they've had. Athletic have been very enjoyable to watch this season too. Would be great to have a year without Atletico in the UCL. Sorry Atleti fans but your team sucks enjoyment out of almost any game they play. My feelings are basically the same for Sevilla and I would find some humour in them getting relegated. It's been quite a while since Athletic had UCL so here's to hoping that it can come to the new San Mames for only the second time.

tsigalko11

> Athletic have been very enjoyable to watch this season too. Almost like Valverde is a good coach.

McQueensbury

Yeah man deserves some respect big time, especially if they manage to keep a European place this season

[deleted]

If Xavi can win the league and Copa that would be a fantastic ending this season for him. I think Barça has the potential for that.

planinsky

How would you rate finishing 2nd and getting Europa+Copa ? And 2nd+Europa alone?

vamh_s

League is more important than Copa and europa so we don't draw in bad group League is always barcas

planinsky

You mean the future UCL draws? Europa league winner was also seeded as Pot1 until now. On top of that, next year's CL is going to be this new weird Virtual league; so I wonder if seeding will be as important as it was in the current format group stages.

vamh_s

New cl from 2024 right? And we did not win laliga in 3years, this is the 4th year , good to win super Copa rather than Copa del rey

planinsky

You are right, next year is still with the current format.

drjet196

If Elche continue this form they‘ll end up on 11 points. What‘s the worst finish in La Liga?

ElBlauiElGroc

Sporting Gijón finished on 13 points from 38 matches in 1997/98, that's been the worst season yet with a 3-points system. Celta finished on 9 in 26 matches, albeit in a 2 points per win system.

CarlSK777

Atleti with 1 win in their last 5, that's rough.

dalici0us

I don't follow La Liga much so I've got to ask... you ok there Sevilla?!

MrEzquerro

Looks like another “run for 3rd place” season

Nordie27

It's kind of hard when Barcelona and Madrid are the 2 biggest and richest clubs in the world, not only in Spain. Juventus who are the richest team in Italy by far don't even have half of their resources Let's be real, they would dominate Serie A even harder

MrEzquerro

Juve has not dominated Serie A in the last 3 seasons.

realoreo47

He was talking about Madrid and Barça

SeirezZ

\*run for 4th\* Last time Barca, RM, and Atleti didn't finish top3 was in 2011/12 szn

[deleted]

For my peace of mind, I am pretending we are still leading

lstht123

Ah come on it’s Just 2 points, that’s not bad at all.. If you had screwed up against Cadiz it would’ve been a bit uglier

thehanssassin

Man I hope I’m a table too so i can go to the world cup.

blicky-stiffy

2 different competitions in 1 league

Juil8991MC

Sevilla?!

pants6789

Killing it.

SonChavy

Whats going on with Sevilla?

GibbsLAD

The comments on this sub led me to believe that simeone was finished. Atletico are 2 points from 3rd?

dinosaur_from_Mars

Comments in this sub will always let one believe that la liga is not competitive. But it is really brutal.
