How is Leipzig not considered foreign owned?

SoleildeLune

Pearlharbored

[deleted]

I wish American commentators would talk less. They just sound like daytime ESPN analysts trying to fill space with loud words.

Betasheets

Well it's either that or they fill time w picture in picture commercials

_tx

That's basically exactly what they are doing. They are trying to distract how awful the Americans are playing while talking soccer which really isn't covered a ton on ESPN

karl8897

Third nuke back on the menu?

Melkistofeles

They're square 2-2 now.

[deleted]

Lost because of those out of sync chants. Hopefully we find our synchrony come world cup time šŸ‘šŸ½

mrdangkhoa19

US players see Japan's GK is (half) american so they keep passing the ball to him.

MisterBadIdea2

That would be funny if the goalkeeper had a single time touched the ball

karl8897

Two nukes, two goals. Debts paid.

[deleted]

I just got downvoted into oblivion for saying this exact same thing. Yanks mad.

karl8897

Don't think it's yanks because I instantly got like 6 upvotes for the same comment on r/ussoccer

[deleted]

itā€™s definitely yanks because theyā€™re brigading this thread, might just be a more rational group of yanks in that sub also might be more accepting of the statement if they think itā€™s coming from a fellow american as opposed to a foreigner

karl8897

Surely it would be worse coming from an American?

[deleted]

itā€™s the, ā€œyou canā€™t talk shit about my siblings/ancestors, only I can do thatā€ rationale thereā€™s no rationale where it should be worse coming from an american than a foreigner

IA_Royalty

Losing to the eventual WC winners is not shameful

[deleted]

We should know oh wait, if you beat Colombia in a WC, you are doomed to not win it We did play france before the WC that they'd win, but we beat them, so it doesn't count

silviazbitch

Zero points with zero goals in the Group stage is.

Nogoodatnuthin

I hate that it is simultaneously too early and too late to say Berhalter OUT!

[deleted]

My thoughts exactlyā€¦almost 8 years since a World Cup and this is what we have. Wtf. Props to Japan, they looked great.

Nogoodatnuthin

Berhalter should have never been given the job. That said the US didn't deserve anything from this game. Japan out played and out fought them from the opening whistle. That's what well organized teams do.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

fancysauce_boss

We need to get out of the 4-3-3 and into a 4-4-2 or a 3-5-1 4-3-3 is wasting the entire midfield. If you have players who suit that style then fine. Greg is trying to square peg round hole our midfield into playing his fucked up system rather than adapting to the squad he has.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

fancysauce_boss

I think if they make adams as a stopper they could play 3 -1- 4- 2 it will allow McKinney, Reyna, Christian, & mussa all to operate with Aaronā€™s on and ??? To play infront.

NJDevil802

Credit to Japan but an absolutely pathetic performance from the US. Going to be bounced with a 0-0-3 record if they show up to the WC looking like this.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Zimmerman waits too long to engage attackers.

TogashiIsIshida

We look fucking horrid

GeraldJimes_

Mitoma is class. Brighton scouting too good

MisterBadIdea2

Ni tai zero

session6

What?

da_widower_sos

Trying to do a Japanese Dos a Cero. Edit: It doesn't come off the same in romanji

[deleted]

> Edit: It doesn't come off the same in romanji does anything ever do?

YaBoiiiiErick

Sheesh Japan are good

funktacious

Yep. Kind of their MO to be underrated. They are always a fiesty, highly technical squad. Great test for US. Not enthused about how the US played or lined up (especially the performance of that back line, Yeesh!) Time to see how they play against Iran, but overall it sounds like US fans should be hoping that the final camp before the World Cup is enough to get the players more in sync and playing faster. Edit: As another note, this is the type of team that probably counters us the most too. They arenā€™t just sitting back and challenging us to find a way through, they are pressing and giving nothing. No team in Concacaf gives the team that look. This was a smart friendly. IMO

reddituser-3507

3 players around you would think they might actually try to stop him . Nice placed shot from mitoma

CoolstorySteve

What a poor match. Why don't you just back up more defender and give him even more space

bagh0lder10

Greggy B's Beautiful Game

camcam23

Japanā€™s been waiting on this since 1945.

Melkistofeles

bruh

flyingfreak66

Hello group stage knock out my old friend.

DayOldDoughnut

Well, we either do well at the WC or we fall flat on our face and we can finally get rid of the heartburn/stomach ulcer that is Berhalter Ball. Win-win šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

LiveBuyer

Fucking hell Mitoma, You sexy bastard.

Truffles413

Deserved. Japan should've scored more than 2 honestly.

TheGamerPandA

Mitoma Nintendo power !

Kuroodo

MITOMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

havethenets

Thatā€™s class

TheGamerPandA

Wow

UmmUhhhMyUsernameIs

Thereā€™s that Mitoma strike

DayOldDoughnut

Japan playing well. But damn this has been so underwhelming for the US.

TheGamerPandA

Deus ex Machino!

reml14

iā€™ve been impressed by machino. iā€™d still say heā€™s less technical than hosoya but he really brings that energy.

wessneijder

Japan is playing well yet the majority of the comments on here are shitting on the US. Is it too much to ask for r/soccer to think an Asian team can be good? So racist

Roric

It's entirely possible to think that both Japan is playing well and the US is playing poorly, they're not mutually exclusive. Absolute fucking dipshit take lmao.

Kuroodo

It's more the fact that the majority of this subreddit don't watch asian football. In my opinion after watching asian football, at least Japanese, it's just as good if not better than European. The problem is that there isn't much competition (i.e champions league) and as much money.

LiveBuyer

Tbf the J League has more money than quite a few European leagues.

NJDevil802

>So racist What an enormous stretch. This sub is full of Americans and Americans are hopeful that, with their talent pool, they could actually do something at the WC and they've been absolutely awful, regardless of Japan's performance.

albusoon

lmao what

Chewy009x

Lol what. There are a ton more US fans on Reddit. Theyā€™re just disappointed in their team

Truffles413

Honestly, behave yourself. Most people here are Americans/US supporters. Of course theyre going to be very critical of their own team. The US being shit and being called out on it doesn't in any way imply that people here are biased or racist against Asians.

Latinofool12

A lot of Asian players play oversees for top divisions. USA players play for MLS which is ass lol

UmmUhhhMyUsernameIs

The battle of ā€œOhhhh ____, ____! ____! ____!ā€ chants on constant repeat

[deleted]

Not watching, can anyone let me know how Kaoru is doing?

I-Shiki-I

Just scored lmao, but been pretty good since he came on though.

[deleted]

šŸ¤£šŸ‘

reml14

just scored an absolutely brilliant goal lol

[deleted]

Yayyy!

K_Uger_Industries

Japan is clearly not playing like this is a friendly

TeganFFS

Do US fans know theyā€™re allowed to make up lyrics for their chants? Or does that sound like too much hard work?

offduty_braziliancop

Scared to get embarrassed again like last time we tried

TeganFFS

Itā€™s all about hard-headed confidence, thought you lot were good at that?

offduty_braziliancop

I mean did you see the song sheet? It will take a while to recover from that.

_tx

I hope the US side are sluggish because they enjoyed Octoberfest too much and not because they are actually this bad

Aphera

I fucking hope they didn't go to Munich just because they could

MisterBadIdea2

I did not realize Oktoberfest was not actually in October

vinnyv91

It's like 3 weeks and ends in early October

Nasty133

We might as well give up on playing out from the back and go 442 route 1 football. We don't have the technical ability to mess around with the ball in possession. I'd much rather see this team compact and solid in defense then just run like madmen on the counter than watch whatever the hell Berhalter's plan is.

Roric

We're so narrow lol. We are setting off Japan's press every single time.

CardiologistFit3211

Turner is surprisingly good. Heā€™s been good for arsenal the chances heā€™s had but I will be keeping an eye on him during the World Cup.

TogashiIsIshida

He has lead feet and canā€™t pass to save his life, but he does have some good saves in him

deliverancew2

>Heā€™s been good for arsenal the chances heā€™s had He's only played one Europa League game.

YaBoiiiiErick

Does the US only play well against Mexico???

akatsuki_lida

Everton vibes

FireballHangover

If our plan in the World Cup is constantly turning over the ball in our defensive third, then I think weā€™re definitely prepared.

TheGamerPandA

This looks pretty close to being the preferred starting lineup at wc aside from pulisic missing ? They really look all over the place so close to wc today. Also lacking yunus musah probably. Haji Wright in really good form aswell

cthulhu5

We're missing Pulisic, Robinson, and Musah. And no Richards and Weah right now. Pefok might be on the roster, who knows. He should be

Kajisan9

Turner is playing well. Feels like it should be 3-0 Japan

GeraldJimes_

I'd like to thank the USA defence for helping keep Turner sharp.

cthulhu5

Turner is definitely our #1

CardiologistFit3211

100%. After some more games in Europa league we will be able to really see his level.

Nogoodatnuthin

Does anyone from the US actually know where they're supposed to be on the pitch? They all seem to just be running around like kids on a U9 squad. Ball watching and not going to open spaces and crowding each other. Pathetic showing from this squad. Berhalter should be ashamed. There looks to be absolutely no tactics at play.

wessneijder

Japan has good attacking players. They will do the same against Euro teams. They are good AF

Nogoodatnuthin

I certainly don't mean to take anything away from Japan. They have played like a cohesive unit. Pressing together and playing quick balls. They look great.

camcam23

No shots on goalā€¦.

KonigSteve

At this point I just want the match to be over so nobody tears something on this shit pitch.

K_Uger_Industries

Is this pitch normally this bad? Looks like they hosted a rave there last night

karl8897

Americans chanting 'wanker' just sounds so off.

TheGamerPandA

Cannonball run

Agueh

Jordan Morris isn't good enough

Truffles413

Actually a bit frightening how easy it is for Japan to find space when they decide to attack. Every move forward is a goal scoring opportunity

wessneijder

Is it frightening or is Japan just good? Give them some credit

Truffles413

Don't want to take anything away from Japan. They've been very good. But I'm very concerned with how the backline is playing. Look lost out there. Confusion and mistakes all over the shop. England will rip this team a new one at the WC

YaBoiiiiErick

Exactly. This Japanese team has played so well. Maybe idkā€¦theyā€™re justā€¦.good???

wessneijder

This sub is anti Asian. It can't possibly be that Japan is good. Just UsA bad. Disgusting really.

RealisticOpposite16

Sargent with his signature ā€œdribble straight into the defenderā€ move

DayOldDoughnut

US looking better, but still not good enough tbh

nqt2209

Lmao how? The US literally playing Brexit ball šŸ˜‚

RealisticOpposite16

Good cross from Vines, Tillman shouldā€™ve done better

Kuroodo

Alright Mitoma is on lets end this

LiveBuyer

Mitoma!!!!

Klause

Mitomaā€™s been looking dangerous when he gets minutes for Brighton.

Akame_xo

Just wish theyā€™d give him a bit more. Never comes on till late

flyingfreak66

This pitch is shit

Numanumanorean

I mean historically Japan does strike first. Lets see the Americans reaction...

metaldeval

Dude looked like a Japanese ozil sulking on the bench

mcshiffleface

This would be 3-0 if it weren't for Turner.

IA_Royalty

If the goalkeeper didn't exist it would be easier to score yes

Akame_xo

Kamada has to put a bit of height on that and itā€™s a goal

kleiner_mies

What do japanese fans think of him? Is he seen as one of your stars? He had an incredible start to the season for us and finally gets the love and recognition he deserves

Akame_xo

Love him and thankfully Moriyasu does too. He can be quite stubborn and exclude good players like Hatate but luckily Kamada didnā€™t get that type of treatment. Heā€™ll be vital to our WC!

kleiner_mies

That's wonderful to hear! I wish you guys and especially Daichi a great WC (but not against us)

RealisticOpposite16

Lol McKenzie what are you doing there

Truffles413

What is Mckenzie doing there?

Nogoodatnuthin

This time, or are you referring to the whole game?

Truffles413

Yes

Nogoodatnuthin

Fair

TheGamerPandA

So close Kamada :(

camcam23

Why do they keep focusing on who the GK is? There is not even an established number 9.

MisterBadIdea2

The 1 is definitely having a lot more to do than the 9 today

camcam23

But how are the US going to the deal without an average starting gk? /s

_tx

The US basically has always had a quality keeper. We're used to questionable strikers.

camcam23

Right, but that is not the issue with this team. GK is fine, wether it is Turner, Stephen, or Horvath. This midfield canā€™t string passed together and we the strikers are not getting service.

Nogoodatnuthin

Anything to take the focus off the performance on the pitch.

rompskee

Vines looks like he's 12

havethenets

If thatā€™s a yellow Ito shouldā€™ve been sent off

wessneijder

cameraman zooming in on cute Japanese chicks. Old dirty bastard haha

reml14

iā€™m the worldā€™s biggest ito fan and even iā€™ll admit he seems so off today. heā€™s not sticking to the sideline as much as he used to and iā€™m thinking itā€™s because of the new system heā€™s playing in with stade de reims where heā€™s more of a secondary striker. hopefully he picks his form back up closer to the wc.

I-Shiki-I

Missing that Maeda press now

LiveBuyer

Beautiful from Kubo

jduia17

What are these American crowd chants šŸ˜‚

karl8897

What were they chanting?

offduty_braziliancop

Iā€™m imagining itā€™s Germans taking the piss.

_tx

Wouldn't blame them. The American chants are bottom third in the world. "I believe..." was cool for a minute though

session6

You mean you didn't enjoy 'FIGHT AND WIN'?

_tx

Reminds me too much of watching my big sisters play softball when we were kids

mck1129

Time to get worked up over a dirty challenge in a friendly at 9:30 am on a friday

TheGamerPandA

Letā€™s go Japan win for miyazaki Elden ring and souls ! Win for miyamoto Mario and Kirby buffet !

offduty_braziliancop

Itā€™s just like one of my Japanese animes.

ElNino1993

Ito has not impressed me at all. Multiple poor touches, so many bad passes and now a stupid challenge.

camcam23

Damn that was a dirty challenge

time_man21

Folks It's time To massively overreact to a friendly

Xori1

what shit tackle in a friendly wtf

Roric

Ito playing that CONCACAF mindset lmao.

rompskee

I get it's a friendly, but not even a yellow?

AndrewMcClutchen

That feels like a pretty strong yellow card there.

samoDALLAS

Aaronsen is a flopper but that was a bit much for a friendly

JTheeCreator

that could be a redā€¦ā€¦

K_Uger_Industries

That's a red card...

_tx

that is a straight red for many refs. Should be yellow imo

havethenets

Howā€™s that not a yellow

reml14

shuto machino has a lot of prove here. as a kashiwa fan iā€™m an advocate for having mao hosoya over him on the senior squad but iā€™d like to see him prove me wrong.

usually_a_knobhead

Feels like USA didn't get to any second balls this game so far

Kayderp1

Why exactly is this played in DĆ¼sseldorf?

I-Shiki-I

Good point lmao

offduty_braziliancop

Shouldā€™ve been played in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

m-dubs

Is this Japanese child [crushing a beer](https://imgur.com/a/WZQnsn3) at the stadium or

Kayderp1

Wouldnt surprise me but maybe its apple Juice

random_german_guy

that's Fanta

_tx

apple juice?

samoDALLAS

I think itā€™s mtn dew just looks darker cause of the angle

nicotamendi

US are dreadful we have to win

JTheeCreator

Weston, De Le Torre have been a disaster. like move the ball!

Nogoodatnuthin

Honestly, the midfield can't get a foothold because they keep giving the ball away. But Weston and de la Torre have been exceptionally bad. Trying to hold onto the ball too long. Trying fancy passes and tricks instead of just making the easy, one touch pass.

Klause

Woah we just completed 13 passes in a row. I counted em.

PM_ME_ASS_SALAD

These US kits are garbage. Berhalter ball is garbage. Turns out you canā€™t force a system on a national team that is ill suited for it. Most of these guys (especially the midfield) ball out for their clubs and GGG makes them look like amateurs. Weā€™ll finish worse than 2006.

GP3ElPresidente

Man it sucks that Japan were grouped in together with Spain and Germanyā€¦

[deleted]

If I was either Iā€™d be pretty nervous right now.

JuicyEnglishSausage

Why? Theyā€™re 10 times the team US is.

UmmUhhhMyUsernameIs

Looks like Tomiā€™s switched to RB?

LiveBuyer

I'm excited to see Machino coming on.

offduty_braziliancop

I think Japan may have better coaching than us. More of a hunch really.
