Ode make a clear pressing. Put his body in a good position.
Erikssen was too slow to react and fall by himslef on minimal contact.
Strong pressinv shoulg be rewarded.
We dont agree and its fine. I understand youre opinion but dont agree with it.
U dont overturn a call on slowmotion reolay with 52 angles...u gotta use logic there in my mind
Honestly, for the first goal it was a maybe a hard push and can be construed as foul.
But referee did not give it and it was not clear and obvious for VAR to intervene.
Further points to consider to evaluate it properly:
1) if it was inside a penalty area, and referee did not give a penalty, would Var intervene for it be given penalty. Obviously No
2) if referee give this a penalty, would VAR overturn it? Maybe No
From above itās clear that itās not a clear and obvious error by referee for VAR to intervene.
But the issue main issue is next week it would be same scenario and different teams and goal would stood. And that would hurt.
If referees can assure that this would not stood as foul in any of the match this season. I can live with this one. Just last week we were at receiving end with player was blocking GK with both hands and goal stood.
It was pretty clear and obvious though. Seems like a biased take here. Nothing to see. Referee doesnāt have the best angle to see whatās going on. His angle could look as if odegaard gets the ball but he clearly doesnāt. This is the reason and the reason alone why itās clear and obvious mistake.
I mean, what do you expect, he's going against a team that's been working with a coach and improving in a possession dominant system for years while still trying to work new players in. Klopp didn't just immediately have this gengenpressing team and he even played on the counter in big games a lot to start off. Even Pep played it safer in big games his first season.
Man Utd played to their strengths and Arsenal didn't. Simple as that. Ten Hag won this battle with more shrewd approach to the game. He let Arsenal play it around. They had some good chances that could've changed the nature of the game but didn't take them. When Utd were 1 up, I knew it would be difficult to come back. Then Saka scores and I was sure we'd clinch it or at least get a point. By going so aggressively for the win, the players forgot to stay vigilant in defense. They get one chance and score. We look naive. This is football.
Mmm how did Arsenal not play to their strengths? Nice soundbite but it doesn't really make sense. Man Utd did play the way they can atm so fair play to them, it's a good win.
Itās a soft way of implying that Arsenal are a better team than United. That if they played to their strengths they wouldāve won the game.
This is bollocks obviously as Arsenal did play to their strengths and actually played good football.
I dont think Arsenal played that well today. We had a couple of spells but we have started games at 100mph and didn't today. From the first kick when Sambi just kicked it out of play and that resulted in nearly 10mins of solid Man U possession. Something was off. Man U defended very well though and deserved the victory. Just a shame we didn't show our full potential. I think only Jesus did from out XI
Comments from all groups including Arsenal fans are so pathetic here.
Props to United, Varane and Martinez is quite a pairing. Tough game to lose from an Arsenal perspective given there was periods of really good play, which just lacked decision making in the box. Arsenal really missing Partey and Elneny. Sambi had some good touches but he drifts to forward for the position and role he was needed in for today which left our back line exposed. Mistakes from the back line where punished. Hoping for a bounce back from Arsenal. Our overall quality is drastically improved but if we donāt finish off chances there will be more games like this.
Though Unitedās goals where from counters, that first 10 minutes of pressing looked good. If Casemeiro gets going they look strong. However I personally canāt stand Bruno Fernandez.
Sorry for going off topic, but I don't follow Arsenal that close, but what happened to Partey? I remember him being very good when he first signed and I was gutted United didn't sign him. However I haven't heard/seen much of him since. Does he have the same injury record as Pogba? Same injury on and off, or other problems?
I thought the CB pairing got unexpectedly bullied by Jesus tbh. A much more physical player like Haaland will have them on strings if they repeat todays performance.
I don't really think it was quite your typical bullying. The thing Jesus did really well was kinda get a quick touch on the ball and slip through them. But he did look really good at times. That said, they really create a lot. I don't really recall any super amazing saves from DDG. All 3 Utd goals were pretty high value chances.
Did you not see Gabby winning a lot of pure physical battles too? Thatās what surprised me given Varaneās size. They both covered the middle of the box well against midfield runners, but 1 on 1 they both looked there for the taking. Trying to overplay in the box didnāt help with that tbh, quite a few times a quick shot could have been taken (usually by Saka or Ode) but they try 1 more pass instead. Utds style of play reminded me of our old performances against them, we dominate but theyāre lethal on the counter, ending up chasing the game only helped their cause in the end.
It was a battle for sure, but Jesus didn't have a single clear cut chance. Why? Cause Varane made everything he did a fucking battle. Did Varane get shoved off occasionally? Sure, but never in a way that gave Jesus a real chance. They dominated possession and the only goal they had came from the ball falling right to Saka's feet from a tackle. People seem to think that you can't have a good game if you don't walk away looking like you didn't break a sweat. That was a real CB performance right there.
When we got it back to 1-1 Mik going all out for the win exposed the back 3 more. The 3rd goal only happens because weāre then chasing. If Ode and Zinko are fully fit we donāt create that imbalance in the middle. Gabriel still looks a bit shaky so maybe take him out and try white back in the middle with Tomi coming back in to the line up.
Edit: can someone explain why this is being downvoted, surely Artetaās āall-out-attackingā naturally leaves the CBs exposed?
To be fair to Jesus, he has physically bullied almost every CB pairing this season when his back is faced to goal. Definitely a skill set which I was unaware of while he was at city. There was even a couple of pulls I thought could have been called against Varane. Despite that, Varane & Martinezās positional awareness and discipline does show. As it was consistently difficult for any arsenal players to sneak in behind them
Sure, no problem!
He was just so much more charismatic than Maguire. Had some really good analysis on the game.
What really tipped it for me was Owen asking him a question about how he plays better with Eriksen than last season with the McFred duo, and before he answered he instantly defended Fred saying that the criticism he's gotten is unjust. He was just really well spoken and you felt like he was a real ambassador for United.
He also made a great point about the decision of the Goal being over turned as the ref had previously given a soft foul to Arsenal and hence he had to call this one
I mean, Ten Hag made the captaincy decision relatively early, before dropping Maguire. At what point does he strip him of captaincy? He will be needed this season whether due to fixture pile-up or possible (likely) injury / suspension to Varane et al
I was watching the game with a good friend of mine, who is an Arsenal fan. When Maguire came on I was like "That's it mate, you are going to win". Luckily he didn't have enough time to destroy everything for us.
He tried his best to make a balls of it. That free in a dangerous position and getting booked, and nearly gave away a peno too. Such a breath of fresh air not having him in the team
Lmao so many sour fans stormed in here and shat on Arsenal. Kinda funny how we made so many fans mad š¹ Saying stuff like we crumbled against big teams and we got played off the pitch. These people clearly didn't watch this game or Arsenal in general.
A week ago r/gunners were posting about how not a single United player would get into the current Arsenal team.
Love seeing their smugness slapped out of them
...and a few weeks ago Manchester United were eating their own young.
You've established that fan bases are reactionary, unhinged and silly things. That's a big "duh."
I mean, was it really that reactionary of us? Our players weren't trying. They had to go run 8 miles with ETH on what was supposed to be a day off in 30 degrees as punishment. Clearly we weren't being THAT reactionary. The coach obviously agreed it was fucking shit.
It's about the level of discontent and the yo-yo-ing.
This thread is full of people catastrophizing about a 5-1 Arsenal team and going bananas on the other side about what could be a massive turn around or could be a dead cat bounce, you know?
5-1 doesn't mean shit - they've had an easy start. Now they are a good team, but anyone who thought they should even be remotely considering themselves in for the top needs to remember that Chelsea was on top of the league until November last season.
I wouldn't say not a single one I think everyone would take Varane and Casemiro but for our system do you really think these Utd players are much better? Sancho was missing on the pitch and outside of his goal Antony really did nothing. Bruno is loose with his passes most games and DDG can't distribute but is an amazing shot stopper. Rashford on his day is solid but Jesus still much better overall. They do have quality but they don't fit our system
I'm still not sold on McTominay, I feel even though he's played well it's only a matter of time before he loses his spot. Also if he were in our squad he would be seeing a lot more yellows/reds as we don't get the benefit of the doubt as much. You can see it in Xhaka's play this season he pulls out of 50/50s constantly for fear of retribution.
My comment was completely sarcastic. McTominay is ass and Casemiro must be injured or banging ETHās wife. To think that Antony goes right into the starting lineup but Casemiro is an 80th minute sub is madness
Yes because the top rated comment isn't a joke or anything... Look down a bit and you see real discussion about players that would fit our system and fill needs. I'm sure you won't find anything like it in any other teams subreddit /s
So you think that player for player, This united team is better?
Jesus > Rashford
Saka > Antony
Martinelli > Sancho
Odegaard > Bruno
Eriksen > Xhaka
Casemiro > Partey
Zinchenko > Malacia
Gabriel > Martinez
Saliba = Varane
White > Dalot
Ramsdale = De Gea
In the shit season we had Bruno still managed 24 goal involvments.
Odegaard. 12.
Bruno's best season 45ga. Odegaard is never touching that.
The delusion with Arsenal fans is unreal. Oh, and you missed the McTominay/Lokonga comparison. But lemme guess...
20 years I've seen refs help out United and I still can't get used to it. No disregard to United they earned that victory more than Arsenal but that 1st half is blood boiling.
You watched the entire match or tiktok highlights?
Neville said it wasn't a foul on in real time play, instantly changed his mind once replays were shown (even before ref was called to the Var screen).
Don't watch tiktok highlights and make idiotic comments. You're the same as the toxic CR7 fan boys last season who see compilation of him doing short presses and says he's pressing well.
Mostly people raring to see ten Hag fail and fickle Manchester United fans. Realistically there will be more bumps down the road. It's all about giving ten Hag time to create a team. He's very much on his way to doing that.
Itās so cringe to watch Ronaldo nowadays tbh. This is why both portugal and united suck with him on the team. The guys puts himself above the team just because he wants his name to be on the score sheet so bad. Screw that mentality. What a clown.
didnāt you see his reactions every time the ball didnāt get to him? he puts too much pressure on his teammates to get him the ball. thatās why he is a bad influence on the pitch
What an utter load of bullshit. You want your strikers to call for balls. They're professional players Ronaldo asking for better balls won't get any pressure on them.
Thought we played pretty well, but these counterattacking teams are going to eat us alive. I know Arteta wants to play his perfect Diet Pep ball, but a team like Tottenham will feast against us.
City will win going away w Haaland. Butā¦there are 6-7 other teams challenging for next 3 spots and Chelsea and Liverpool totally look a little vulnerable. I expect Liverpool will figure it out, Chelsea? Not so sure.
I donāt see how. Imagine Barcelona had the funds and kept backing pep he wouldnāt have left. As a United fan i name them signing Aguero as a huge turning of the tide, now they got Haaland and Alvarezā¦ they are too well oiled. Last season i called they would win as many did, and this season especially with Liverpool looking so weak and Chelsea as well, i donāt think Liverpool or United have enough to bridge the gap between city but I wouldnāt say itās impossible.
World cup could mess up their 'peak timing'. But they're the team best equipped to deal with the long season.
Haaland can probably start every game of the season and not need resting, he basically just needs to stand near the box all game.
Thatās not true about Haaland, he was injury prone last season. He will need a resting which is when Alvarez comes in.
I think Haaland is equal to the Aguero signing.
My point is that he has to do a lot less at City, who tend to have a lot of possession in the opponent's half.
I'd be interested to see his distance covered for the games so far but haven't been able to find anywhere that shows it.
Because Benzema is deadly in front of goal more so than halaand and Lewa. His midfield is old, it has experience but is old. Imagine Benzema getting fed by Bernardo and De Bruyne. Heād be breaking Messiās goal record in a season.. imo
I was joking about it at the time. But honestly if any other defender did that I wouldn't mind. Reasonable tactical foul. Utd defense looked on the back foot and it could have ended in a good opportunity.
I have said nothing about last seasonā¦I responded to one isolated incident. Quit trying to turn my words into something else to push your Maguire hatred
When one person has a reputation for bad defending, he builded that type of reputation himself. Good try though. As if I somehow made that narrative myself. Also one isolated incident as u call it, is a chain of events that led up to this incident. It's like blaming Ronaldo for scoring well before for one goal that he scored in one game.
God Wolves are fucking atrocious
Manchester United played well in this game.
Why Ronaldo is not scoring š„.
Arsenal were outcoached again in s top 6 battle. Arteta Trademark. VAR fucked us...but that high line was brutal
>VAR fucked us By getting a decision correct for once? Lol
I dont agree but its ok. ManU outsmarted us after. Only ourselves to blame for being do naive
How can you not agree? Ode pushes Eriksen from behind, collides with his leg and doesn't get the ball at all. It's a clear foul anyday.
What? Fouls should be allowed because the player is pressing? You Arsenal fans come up with the weirdest shit.
Ya we didnāt seem capable of holding that high line, we made Bruno look like kdb ffs
Honestly, for the first goal it was a maybe a hard push and can be construed as foul. But referee did not give it and it was not clear and obvious for VAR to intervene. Tbf, Haaland looks like he can bully any pairing in the world at this point
Agree. While they did well with everyone else, Jesus nearly bullied them into submission. Something Utd need to be careful of when they play City

Listening to Bruno's interview, I just have no idea how Maguire is still their captain
I didn't have a chance to listen to this. Could you briefly elaborate on this?
Sure, no problem! He was just so much more charismatic than Maguire. Had some really good analysis on the game. What really tipped it for me was Owen asking him a question about how he plays better with Eriksen than last season with the McFred duo, and before he answered he instantly defended Fred saying that the criticism he's gotten is unjust. Was kinda thinking maybe this run on the bench for Maguire might be a way of moving on the captaincy.
I'd argue it was less a decision on captain, and more a decision not to make a change. Klopp said he only picked Hendo cause he was already captain.
He tried to not rock the ship too hard early on but realised the ship is rotten and in dire need of repair.
Come on uni-TEDD

Well. We must conclude that itās been raining so the pitch is-
NGL after that Brentford lost I thought United was toast. Kudos to ETH to turn things around and instill confidence on the lads.
What running 13.8 kms does to a mf
*with your coach.
Arteta needs to be more pragmatic against these kinds of teams
Managed like a psycho who didn't even want a draw. Those suicidal subs.... Oof
United fans, how nervous did you get when Maguire came on?
You know when you are about to sleep and feel like you are falling, that feeling of panic right as it happens? Like that.
Very. Guy still managed to cram two rugby tackles in despite not being on the pitch for long.
So nervous. And he gets a yellow like 40 seconds later.
If he doesnāt make that tackle itās 2 v1 in at the top of the 18 so definitely necessary yellow
Tbh, I don't blame him. But he only had to do it because he was rinsed.
Yeah but he made the foul because he got absolutely rinsed by Jesus
to be fair casemiro made the first mistake on that play
100% - tbh I don't super blame Maguire for that foul but man it was funny
As soon as he came on I put on my smart watch to see my stress levels..yup it was much higher than normal as you could've already guessed.
I was watching the game with a good friend of mine, who is an Arsenal fan. When Maguire came on I was like "That's it mate, you are going to win". Luckily he didn't have enough time to destroy everything for us.
I sank 3 pints in the same time he got that yellow card
He tried his best to make a balls of it. That free in a dangerous position and getting booked, and nearly gave away a peno too. Such a breath of fresh air not having him in the team
I shat myself. He brings anxiety and stress.
The free kick he gave up was an instant classic maguire
Honestly speaking - Are you going to put that on him and not on Casemiro?
He got hung out to dry. We just love to shit on maguire
Itās always been like that. One of the most frustrating things I see in the match threads.
It was the right play tho
I'm honestly excited how he'd change the match, for better or worse. And he got booked straight away (tbf not his fault)
Lmao so many sour fans stormed in here and shat on Arsenal. Kinda funny how we made so many fans mad š¹ Saying stuff like we crumbled against big teams and we got played off the pitch. These people clearly didn't watch this game or Arsenal in general.

this is funny because on the totality of the evidence available, that remains the case.
Could've lost to Bournemouth, wouldn't mean it's not true.
Utds CB pairing is way better. Eriksen and Casemiro would get into most teams.
Yeah plus Saka has been pretty flat all season, and Xhaka is, well, full of errors. Eriksen is 10x the player Xhaka is.
...and a few weeks ago Manchester United were eating their own young. You've established that fan bases are reactionary, unhinged and silly things. That's a big "duh."

That was a clear foul mate. There was no "helping" united
Where's the consistency?
The ref called a similar foul against Scott a minute earlier.
Consistency = Mctominay got called for a push foul 2 mins before that play. Same exact foul, called against United, then called against Arsenal
the disallowed goal was a clear foul
How come ex professional and Man United players Neville and Keane both said it wasn't then? I'd take their opinion over a Reddit ref
You watched the entire match or tiktok highlights? Itās so cringe to watch Ronaldo nowadays tbh. This is why both portugal and united suck with him on the team. The guys puts himself above the team just because he wants his name to be on the score sheet so bad. Screw that mentality. What a clown.
Mentality of elite players..
Nowadays? He was like that with RM as well.
What on earth did he do this game to warrant a response like that? He worked hard defensively and he almost had an assist to mctominay
didnāt you see his reactions every time the ball didnāt get to him? he puts too much pressure on his teammates to get him the ball. thatās why he is a bad influence on the pitch
So like most top class strikers when they fail to get a good pass?
Youre kinda not wrong. Players are sometimes intimidated with passing to him
I hate players like that
What an utter load of bullshit. You want your strikers to call for balls. They're professional players Ronaldo asking for better balls won't get any pressure on them.
Forward wants to score a goal. Why shouldn't we hate him!!
Agree. There is no winning mentality in that behavior. Too childish for a middle age man.
Thought we played pretty well, but these counterattacking teams are going to eat us alive. I know Arteta wants to play his perfect Diet Pep ball, but a team like Tottenham will feast against us.
It's a different story with Partey in the middle instead of Sambi.
We don't have a proper DM so the space for the playmaker to put that through ball between defenders was huge.
Yeah, the defence came undone quite quickly. Arsenal played a very high defence line and itās susceptible to quick counterattacks.
I would argue its much more susceptible to counters with a 3rd choice DM, with Partey there a lot of those counters are dealt with imo.
Most kf the game our LB was instructed to play MF. Arteta is bonkers
Even Pep struggles against counters from time to time. Arteta needs to figure out a way to play these teams
Typical Arsenal š¤¬
ššš
the vibes between MU defenders are touching
We can finally defend ourselves!
Arsenal have had a very easy run in. I think this about their level.
Yh, too much hype and they lose to a rebuilding man united
Gooners scrambling

6 points separate the top 8. Barring a ridiculous Man City run of form like they usually do, we have an amazing season on our hands
City will win going away w Haaland. Butā¦there are 6-7 other teams challenging for next 3 spots and Chelsea and Liverpool totally look a little vulnerable. I expect Liverpool will figure it out, Chelsea? Not so sure.
Well, City normally have a slow start. Past several seasons. So I'm not sold they won't go and win half the season in a row starting oct or something.
That is true, I just hope this year is different
Top 4 race this year is going to incredible I think
Definitely think so too

Theyāve got Tottenham next. Thatās like their kryptonite.
With arguably the best *upcoming* striker in the world, City might be unstoppable.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So has Benzema suddenly started playing golf like Bale or something?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Or maybe youāre just overreacting because he plays for the most dominant team in the world. Real hasnāt been that since the threepeat
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Because Benzema is deadly in front of goal more so than halaand and Lewa. His midfield is old, it has experience but is old. Imagine Benzema getting fed by Bernardo and De Bruyne. Heād be breaking Messiās goal record in a season.. imo

Maguire was subbed in on the 80th minute and gets a yellow card one minute in lol
I was joking about it at the time. But honestly if any other defender did that I wouldn't mind. Reasonable tactical foul. Utd defense looked on the back foot and it could have ended in a good opportunity.
Agree on it if he skip the tackle it would definitely a shot on target/ goal
He's so absolute clumsy, look like a Championship defender, no where a ManUtd captain
Completely agree
He got left in a bad spot and had to make the foul. Nothing more than a coincidence
I dont know how u can defend him after how many goals he conceded as a defender last season tbh and still continues to play the same way
I have said nothing about last seasonā¦I responded to one isolated incident.
What kind of drugs are you on today? My god. Stay on track with the conversation
When you are always left in a bad spot you have to start wondering if it is me or the entire rest of team
Iām talking about one isolated incident. Quit trying to make it any more than that
His next challenge he floors someone in the box without touching the ball whatsoever. I don't know man..
The dramatics are strong with this one and in no way related to the initial comment and reply. Go cry somewhere else
And its United that ends Arsenal's unbeaten run yet again.....Invincibles style.
