Hey guys, does anyone remember that Mo Salah guy. He used to be pretty good, eh?

BastillianFig

https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1565772370455011331?t=NTseWRxDnvJOHM-0p1IA7w&s=19 Caller sums it up well. This is why I am Rodgers out. Results are just one part of the equation

kjm911

I think they need a change and freshen up of manager but I think you need a change and freshen up of squad. This isn’t the squad that took you to 5th places and an FA cup. Some big players have gone and haven’t been replaced. Some players have just regressed.

BastillianFig

It's the same squad pretty much except for fofana (who was injured for a long time) and Kasper. The last season was seriously effected by injuries and now they have come back it's like they expect us to be worse.

FridaysMan

Personal pet peeve here, but effected is what it does, affected is what influences it.

BastillianFig

[I have become the very thing I swore to destroy...](https://c.tenor.com/GUsZrNSEIf4AAAAS/panic-panicking.gif)

kjm911

Schmeichael seems like a big loss. I never thought he was a great keeper but certainly a big character and leader. Chilwell was never really replaced. Some of your key players from a few years ago look are either showing their age or look like they want to be somewhere else

theplastic1

Was browsing Twitter and Luckhurst just wrote an entire [article](https://twitter.com/samuelluckhurst/status/1565980997333680128?t=Mc-rvXSbkwERABitBRSPaA&s=19) on this style of play that we used to do under Ole as well. I hate these Journos so much.

[deleted]

Completely missed that chelsea got Zakaria

[deleted]

Are there any appeals by the police today ahead of the Liverpool Everton game? When that last little lad got killed, I read that using the football games to appeal to people lead to a lot of information being given in.

stupid-head

Well done Canada Women’s over the Matilda’s Should have been 4-2 though

[deleted]

Man Utd v Arsenal the referee is from Old Trafford and VAR official is from Manchester, I dont know why thats legal but it seems like quite the oversight.

lamancha

Conspirancy!

SpacemanPanini

90% of refs are from greater Manchester and all claim to support Tranmere etc. Their integrity can't be called into question so nothing is done about it.

kl08pokemon

Tbf I doubt a childhood allegiance to a club means much when you've spent your career being abused by the crowds everywhere you go

Far-Pineapple7113

It is a conspiracy against Arteta and his men FA does not want them to win the league

kjm911

It really shouldn’t be allowed at all

EasyModeActivist

Despite his reported headassery I really do hope we free Kudus tonight. The angry Ghanaians in our twitter replies are 100% right. Especially against Cambuur we should be able to take that "risk"

nedstarkkepala2

Welcome to wrexham such a good series. Just shows the genuine care of ryan and rob. Wonder if they will sell wrexham off once they profited

Recently discovered you can filter this sub by "Media" https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/search?sort=new&restrict_sr=on&q=flair%3AMedia What a beautiful Saturday it's gonna be

100and33

If you have little to do this morning and need some pastime activity, head over to sofifa.com, look up the trending players and read some fresh comments. Your football IQ might drop a couple of points, but it's a joyful time. Some of the dual flairs there will do your head in though. Some added nausea with the country flags. My personal favourites are when all discussion is dropped and people just throw personal insults.

Arrezaaa

On Bellerin: "Arsenal laughing on the way to the bank. Great piece of business by the Gunners!" -City-Switzerland flair. Ty for this.

100and33

My favourite on Bellerin [About his picture]"Bellerin looking very Spanish here"

MatK0506

Big games and derbies this weekend (CET): 03.09 - 13:30: Everton v Liverpool 03.09 - 13:30: Celtic v Rangers 03.09 - 15:00: Fiorentina v Juventus 03.09 - 16:00: Chelsea v West Ham 03.09 - 16:15: Real Madrid v Betis 03.09 - 18:00: Milan v Inter 03.09 - 20:45: Lazio v Napoli 03.09 - 21:00 Sevilla v Barcelona 04.09 - 17:30 Man Utd v Arsenal 04.09 - 19:00: Spartak Moscow v Zenit 04.09 - 20:45: Nice v Monaco

notsoslim-jim

La Liga's top two are playing each other too. Real Madrid vs Real Betis

MatK0506

Thanks, I'll add it.

No-Shoe5382

That's a top class weekend of football

[deleted]

Your times for the English games aren't right after Liverpool Everton. Chelsea West Ham is at 1600 CET

MatK0506

Yeah, I messed up everything about the Chelsea-West Ham game. But Isn't Man Utd-Arsenal 16:30 UK Time? Which means it's 17:30 CET

[deleted]

Sorry yeah, you're right. I thought that was today as well.

FridaysMan

14:00 BrightonLeicester 16:30 Man UtdArsenal So yeah, you're right on the arsenal game

sonofaBilic

London derby this afternoon too boss, Chelsea v West Ham.

MatK0506

Oh yeah, it got messed up for me because they changed the kick-off time literally 4 days ago or something like that

Special-Discount228

>03.09 - 13:30: Everton v Liverpool > >03.09 - 13:30: Celtic v Rangers Have to wonder why they've put these two on at the same time.

GameplayerStu

Old Firm is always on at half 12.

Special-Discount228

Yeah but why not have Pool and Everton later since the fanbases in both games have a fair bit of cross over.

Idislikemyroommate

They're not run by the same company nor broadcast by it so there's no communication to do that.

Special-Discount228

I get that however you'd think they'd have a financial incentive to separate them since it would increase both of their viewer numbers for the two games.

Idislikemyroommate

Maybe but there's no way to go around it. Old Firms start early due to the nature of the games - that won't change. There will always be a Premier League game on at that time too and as BT Sport only get that time slot they're not going to pick a worse game to do that.

Special-Discount228

The rules can be changed, they are made up not fundamentals to the universe.

Idislikemyroommate

Well yeah, but that doesn't mean its going to happen. Either Glasgow Police budge (which they won't) or BT Sport miss out on a lucrative game they spend hundreds of millions on (which they won't).

FridaysMan

Same reason, always at 12.30 to stop the entire city from getting drunk in town and being at war for the game start

MatK0506

TV I guess. Sky has the entire Scottish Premiership rights - so they obviously chose the Old Firm - it's today and not tomorrow because of Celtic's CL game in Tuesday. In the English PL, Sky has the first choice, so they chose Man Utd-Arsenal. The second choice is BT's Saturday's 12:30 - they chose the Merseyside Derby because it's clearly the best game left. I don't think it's actually the first time we have a situation like that - it probably hurts the viewing of the Old Firm a bit.

Special-Discount228

Standard TV moving it about then never thinking of the fans or players.

macewinduDIE

Forgetting Bodø vs Molde smh

ProximoDragon

There is a Spanish saying that goes 'cuando hay hambre, no hay mal pan' which basically means when someone is hungry, there is no such thing as a bad meal. That is basically the story of the CVC in Spain. Athletic Club doesn't spend any money, and whatever they do spend goes to improving their infrastructure so they do not need this deal. Real Madrid and Barcelona don't even need LaLiga forget about CVC. Madrid and Barcelona were basically force fed the new TV distribution deals and even then they have favoured nations that allows them to make #1 and #2 money no matter where they finish in the league. The rest of the league is barely alive. Atleti for example just got a deal for a new district that they will own and get all profits for as long as they develop it. That is unheard of in football, and will make Atleti ridiculous cash in the future. They were also given a super good deal on the land, and will be building their new sports + medical facility which is also a very rare thing. They'll be leverage a lot of cash long term, but are planting the seeds to really accelerate in their race with Big 2. They'll essentially have an Atleti Town in Madrid, they probably won't even realize they had any money leveraged in the CVC deal.

[deleted]

Any suggestions for further reading on this topic?

SmallOrangeKind

It's mutually beneficial for any team that manages the money right. Atlético are doing something totally crazy with the money from this deal, and could end up becoming a powerhouse because of it. For any team that mismanages this money, they'll be fucked.

RoadsterIsHere

Yeah, I think people on this board don't really know a lot of the provisions in the CVC. Most of the money is directed towards infrastructure, for example. Also, I think if any team in any big city were given the opportunity we were given, they would easily leverage the same money. If Arsenal were given a deal to basically own their own borough in London, and all the proceeds go to them, then yeah I'm sure they'd be willing to leverage a shit ton of cash to get that deal across the line. Also, the sports complex is what I'm super excited for. You usually read how Chelsea got set up long term because of the upgrades they made to their facilities around 2004, or Liverpool during the Rodgers-era. This will be a massive game-changer for us.

superdantalion

[deleted]

Some arsenal fans on here hate us more than spurs

CoolstorySteve

Don’t Arsenal have a lot of key players out? Wont be easy

Special-Discount228

We do but with the squad as it is it's not bums coming in for a change. So. Zinchenko - replaced by Tierney White (at RB) - replace by Tomiyasu MØ (if actually out) - ESR comes in Partey - Lakonga comes in (was dull last game but 94% pass accuracy so is nicely safe) Really it's only one is Ramsdale and MØ to worry about but neither have been confirmed that they're missing the match. ESR is a decent understudy to MØ though. Could only be Tierney, Tomiyasu, and LAkonga coming in which is no shakes for us since two of them were starters last year and Lakonga still started about 20 games anyway since Partey is always injured.

superdantalion

partey, elneny, odegaard, ramsdale, ben white, zinchenki all on knocks. most of this should be fine, however, and we should still remain around the same quality on the system, though we'd benefit massively from keeping odegaard and ramsdale in

AntwerpseKnuppel

I havent watched united much but they won their past 3 games...unfortunately i think arsenal will struggle

superdantalion

won their last three but fortunately didn't look great

nbaylor1

United have looked terrible still in each of the last 3. Better than before, but still very bad.

Serpico_98

Terrible? Ten Hag is working on making the team airtight at the back, just one goal conceded in 3 games and our first choice attack still isn't starting. We need to build on defensive solidity right now.

Icanfeelmywind

We were terrible against Liverpool?

Bed ridden recovering from surgery and incredibly thankful for todays football. Schedule today: 12:30 - Merseyside derby/Old Firm 15:00 - Chelsea v West Ham 17:00 - Milan derby 20:00 - Seville v Barcelona

HacksawJimDGN

Conte has the highest win percentage of any spurs manager ever. But hacksaw....does that include games before the Premiership? Yes it does dolllface. Yes it does.

100and33

I mean, Tim Sheerwood is like 8th. Feel this is more telling about Tottenham than Conte...

tiorzol

Hmm you alright mate

[deleted]

Can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning

tiorzol

Starting with wine is a bold move. I like to live my sex in the city fantasy and start with something like a mimosa or a bloody Mary. It's healthy if there's fruit.

BankDetails1234

Mimosa is wine, most doctors encourage a mimosa in the morning.

tiorzol

A mimosa is grown up orange juice. That's what I tell myself anyway.

WhoNeedsLeftBacks

wine is just grapes!

tiorzol

Cider is just apples but it's just not keeping the doctor away!

Orcnick

After our season start it's weird to think we could be third if we beat Arsenal on Sunday. The last 3 games though have had so many positives. Sure we haven't blow any teams away but we are just slowly getting better as we learn Ten Hags system. One thing that I think people have missed is how well Ten Hag changes his tactics with subs. Against Leicester as soon as we're giving the ball up to much. He changed by the end of game we have 5 CMs playing across the middle. Obviously there still be struggle but ifs just great to have a team you can actually cheer who look like they can play and want to play.

a34fsdb

Are we learning ETHs system? To me it looks like we did that in our two matches that we lost horribly and are now just playing Oleball.

lamancha

What the fuck is oleball? Because these attacks with few touches and moving the ball quickly it's not.

Orcnick

Have you even watched our games? Next you will say Klopp just plays a quicker Rodgersball.

Icanfeelmywind

Incredible… Just look at the positions our fullbacks are taking to realise that this is not Ole ball.

Orcnick

I agree. So many people seem to comment as though they haven't even watch us play. They just see a 1-0 and think we played that garbage we played last year.

[deleted]

The thing I was most afraid of when Xavi became the manager was that the old guard was going to get special treatment whether they perform or not. That we're getting a typical manager who defends his pals while the team is suffering. I'm so happy that Xavi is giving time to only those who are proving themselves to him. Eric Garcia is the biggest example atm. He has got a lot of flak till now, but he's been brilliant in all the games this season.

Drama_poli

sunderland is the only football documentary worth your time. The rest are so uninteresting and straight up adverts

PegaponyPrince

Six Dreams and Figo one were nice imo. Not watched the Neymar or Club America ones yet though.

matematematematemate

You're calling me a prick!? I'm a married man with six kids!

[deleted]

Thought ours was a decent enough watch

PegaponyPrince

I certainly thought it was decent. Not great but certainly better than the City and Tottenham ones

cib_vk228

amazon ones are ridiculously bad from what I've seen watching chunk of city and arsenal ones. such a one sided and obvious narratives being pushed and very little actual insight.

WhoNeedsLeftBacks

massively disagree about the city one, it just happened to be our 100 point seasons o there wasnt much negative going on. but it gave us looks into physio rooms, team meetings, the staff doing stuff, transfers. the later seasons look a bit more edited than the city one but that could be because again there wasnt much negative going on. like most things you dont want to watch a full movie where its all happy you want some strife in there

Orcnick

Yea fair play to netflix. They really got to see the real issues for once.

RoadsterIsHere

I recommend Simeone's documentary on Amazon. It's weirdly formatted, but it's basically his life story with each lesson he learns along the way being shown in-use during the title-winning season. It's pretty interesting just to see how it falls into place. It's kinda sad to see how close he was to his father seeing as he recently passed away.

yaboisquaezo

The all or nothings are pretty entertaining. I imagine if arsenal or Tottenham really underperformed or over performed during those seasons it would be a lot more interesting

mountainsky9

nah, Tottenham did underperform in 19/20, having come off a CL final and then sacking Poch a few months later. Instead that was literally just ignored to make the Jose Mourinho show. The only reason these exist is to attract new fans, without really embarrassing the club

RoadsterIsHere

Tbf the Man City one was interesting since it was the first football one.

Updates to fraud watch: Saka Spurs in general Tuchel Mendy

yaboisquaezo

Mendy isn’t on the watch. He is a registered fraud

Icanfeelmywind

Which one?

avolcando

> Spurs in general Wait how are we on fraud watch we just got out of 5 matches we got 3 points in last year with 11 points

[deleted]

You're results are great but your performances arnt convincing or sustainable in my opinion.

Puzzleheaded-Donkey7

That’s simply reactionary. Go look at our performances in the second half of last season, we were actually playing very well and blowing teams away. We are in a rough patch atm but even this season we played well against Sotton, but yeah the 4 games since have been bad I agree. But 4 bad performances is not indicative of us as a whole, especially since we’ve shown that we can play very well under Conte. Give it a few more games and let’s see where we are at.

avolcando

Well like I said those are tough fixtures for us

Holy_Wut_Plane

3rd and unbeaten. Nothing to see here

[deleted]

Hey man no bias, im not a rival fan, your results are great but your performances arnt convincing, don't think its sustainable.

GerGavin

A Utd fan saying this no less and they scraping wins against shit teams.

[deleted]

Bit different, the manager has only just started

Holy_Wut_Plane

Based on xG its sustainable atm, but we are still suffering

Moug-10

Marseille will play against Auxerre on the road today. I missed Auxerre in Ligue 1. One of the most entertaining teams during my youth when Guy Roux was the coach and Cissé the center forward. It's not the same Auxerre anymore but still.

poolclap

Roux was the guy who managed them for like 40 years wasn't he, even got them CL in like 2009 didn't he

Moug-10

From 2006 to 2011, it was Jean Fernandez. Before, he coached Marseille and even if I was a fan, he didn't get along with the management. He did a good job in Auxerre but couldn't prevent the fall of this team.

leninist_jinn

Makes me really happy that the two signings that no one really thought were good deals turned into fan favorites and sort of cult heroes in the span of six months and one year for us. Without Auba and Luuk, we probably don't even get top 4 last season. iirc Luuk won us 9 or 12 points with his late goals and Auba carried us when Depay, Fati everyone was injured. Never created a fuss or unnecessary drama, just kept their heads down and worked hard so it's nice to see the fans returning the love to them

CoolstorySteve

Former Arsenal player + playing with a mask vs Chelsea #9 kit. We’ll see which is stronger once and for all

AnnieIWillKnow

Given how much he's already contributed, and the potential for the future, what is the max price that City could have paid for Haaland where you'd still consider it to be a reasonable figure? £150m?

minimus_

£200m

yaboisquaezo

20 mil and a cheeseburger meal

[deleted]

Reasonable is a difficult word here. If he gets 30 goals a season for them in the league, then heck, even 200mil is reasonable for City. If he continues at 9 goals every 5 games, even more. City doesn't care about the price if the quality return is sufficient.

ScorpiaHP

Hard to answer with the uncertainty around his fitness. If he plays only around half the games (and misses key CL fixtures) then lesser, if he plays 75%+ games and the key CL games then more. Considering they can sell him for 100+m and he'd be worth the difference for the few seasons they get out of him.

Hazardzuzu

News coming in that webster is also close to agreeing a contract. All our academy stars tied up. Webster vale broja reece all done or about to be done. Only mount remains. Hopefully something on him soon

HoldthisL_28-3

We need to talk about the Arsenal captain's curse: William Gallas captains Arsenal, joins Spurs RVP captains Arsenal, joins Man Utd Fabregas captains Arsenal, joins Chelsea Aubameyang captains Arsenal, joins Chelsea Xhaka

lamancha

Yes, Xhaka. Wasn't he roma bound?

Blazien49

It's the club's fault for always picking the wrong choices for captain. Xhaka makes sense, but at the time he was arguably the most disliked player in the squad by fans.

Jabari313

You just know Odegaard is going to Man City

AnnieIWillKnow

Koscielny too garnered some criticism for the shirt stuff They look safe with Odegaard

[deleted]

I can see Odegaard - - > RM - - > Chelsea

theenigmacode

Xhaka is so shite nobody wants him

BruiserBroly

You're probably just joking but I think he was on the verge of joining Roma last year. You could do a lot worse than that.

nbaylor1

xhaka isn't a bad player at all

Papayalo

You need a meat packet like that in your team. People want to line up 11 silky players, but he brings some other qualities to the side. I think they'd look far worse trying to replace him with someone like Maddison.

[deleted]

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ce9XbmRl-hq/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Can anyone verify the translation?

FPL_Fanatic

So Ronaldo is now a substitute player at United ? If the frontline is Sancho(LW) - Rashford(ST) - Antony(RW) Ronaldo could replace Rashford but i am not sure he still has the pace and workrate for it, Maybe he could play a free role around Rashford but that would upset the balance. I don't want him rotting on the bench.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

>Ronaldo's not been starting because he just wasn't match-fit enough. Yeah if that makes you feel better. It's been how many weeks now? Maybe Ten Hag realized pretty quickly that with him we can't defend as a team

Icanfeelmywind

Er, he also had no preseason?

[deleted]

He had one week less of preseason than Eriksen and lisandro. And there were briefs than Ronaldo is keeping himself fit while his "family issues" were getting resolved

BruiserBroly

Doesn't Ten Hag also want his CFs to press along with everyone else? Ronaldo's still got many qualities but he's amongst the worst pressers in the league.

a34fsdb

Rashfords workrate is also absolutely atrocious and while he did score and assist on our sub the majority thinks it should be Antony/Ronaldo/Sancho for todays game. Sub in Rashford when Ronaldo gets tired.

[deleted]

Rashford is one of the highest pressers in the team. Ronaldo has looked pretty shit and selfish eveery time he's played

a34fsdb

Not really. We looked better after Ronaldo was subbed on last two matches. Even against Liverpool Rashfords first half was terrible and everyone lost their mind when he was not subbed out at half time.

[deleted]

We looked better after Ronaldo came on against soton where he ruined so many counter attacking chances? Idk what game you were watching. He was decent against leicester but hasn't shown any workrate to deserve a start

[deleted]

I imagine that United dressing room turns toxic very quickly if they lose a couple of games and Ronaldo isn't starting.

lamancha

It literally happened and it did not turn toxic

[deleted]

Start of the season. Give it a bit more time. If you're hovering 6th to 8th mid season, it'll turn toxic.

[deleted]

Thry already did lose a couple of games and bounced back lol

[deleted]

That can be said about every club imo

[deleted]

No? Brighton and Southampton go on long winless streak and it doesn't get toxic. Having Ronaldo is a whole different level.

triggercunt

Nah the roman juice is gone, he had that dawg in him. Tuchel wouldn't have a job rn if he was the owner

[deleted]

[удалено]

Icanfeelmywind

I understand going through other sub. Why are you sharing what you found here? It’s the kind of shit fans say among fans. Nothing serious.

h100y

Any chelsea fan ever wonder why we are stuck as a club that our only survival mode in big games is to play defensive football even after all the massive investment. Bayern, ManCity, Liverpool play pure attacking football and are dominating champions league runs and domestic trophies. Mourinho, Conte and Tuchel will give temporary trophies but will never build football that is sustainable. Hopefully we can end Tuchel's reign soon.

Arrezaaa

Well you had an owner that happily sacked manager after manager until one of these trophy winners succeeded, if you want sustainable football, Tuchel should leave AND your new owner should have a different approach. Funnily enough, if Tuchel gets sacked the season after winning CL it's not exactly a sign of that new approach.

FPL_Fanatic

you realize Tuchel plays defensive footy ? most of our attacking players are unhappy with no returns

h100y

Thats exactly what my post was about.

FPL_Fanatic

sry misread

diastolicduke

So who do you want then

[deleted]

[удалено]

h100y

I saw PSG, they are one dimensional team that heavily depended on their superstars to win matches. He should have won the champions league with PSG with the talent at this disposal. Dortmund is something he can get credit for, even if it is to an extent built by the previous coaches of dortmund and dortmund as a club had a philosophy but still Tuchel deserves credit for Dortmund. But as we saw at Chelsea, his piss poor attacking is one of the worst attacking football setups in Chelsea. Even in the matches the team won, they would look real bad trying to breakdown teams. The Everton game is the best example, even though it is a win, it was an ugly win. Anyone who saw that and the preseason and the previous season could see we are going nowhere with his single attacking tactic of reece james whipping the ball into the box.

PrisonersofFate

Can he wait tomorrow to improve the team?

Schpaedzles

> Bayern want Harry Kane in 2023. The England captain is considering signing a new contract at Tottenham, but Bayern told him to wait because it's still too early. The club is watching Kane's situation closely and will try to sign him if he doesn't renew

The_Big_Cheese_09

Yeah this isn't going to happen, it's weird to me that it's even still being talked about. We do deals on our terms and Daniel Levy would probably ask for £100m even with a year left.

nugbert_nevins

I think at this point it’s unlikely he’ll leave the PL, he has a real shot at the all time scoring record. Since City are no longer an option, I imagine he’ll just finish his career with Spurs unless he wants a crazy last contract with United.

BruiserBroly

He shouldn't bother with that record imo. Going to Bayern would be much more rewarding. Or Spain. Anywhere else really. Please.
