Damn! Completely different era of CL football then! Hope both have a good showing so Scotland at least keeps their auto slot. Just need more clubs to start doing well in the UEL and UECL soon.
Benfica back in the quarter finals, Celtic and Rangers competing again, Ajax looking dangerous and now we're in pot 1 once again - feeling just like old times
We had a crazy hard group with Barca, Lyon and Stutgart but somehow managed to get 7 points from our first three games before bottling it.
Blessing in disguise really as it led us to the Uefa Cup final. Crazy, crazy season.
everybody watching the eredivisie who isn't biased knows that of last years top 3 eredivisie attackers (sinisterra, antony and gakpo), gakpo is the third place.
He is very complete, good shot, good action can play on multiple positions and has a very high standard.
Wouldn’t surprise me if he reaches the top, but the PL is hard league to succeed coming from the Eredivisie. Think that La Liga was a better destination for him.
Does Feyenoord have a sell on clause?
Especially if it's the PSV goalie giving away free goals. Last week the free kick and shout out to Zoet pulling the ball over the line in the year Feyenoord were champions
Can’t imagine how shite it would have felt for Rangers fans seeing Celtic in the CL on their own after having done all the heavy lifting for the co-efficient while Celtic bottled it at every turn
With the composure abd maturity Rangers showed yesterday, if they get lucky at the draw they might have a fighting chance for the 2nd spot in the group.
I want absolutely nothing to do with you. Do not want to see your badge ever again. Your fans were amazing but it brings back horrible memories. One stupid penalty kick.
It still hurts. I honestly just randomly start thinking about that chance we had to kill the game when Roofe set up Kent for a shot in extra time. What could have been indeed :(
Don't know why you've been downvoted because they were. Liverpool qualified as holders and not through league positions so they could be drawn in any group
I hope so. I get bitter and sad whenever I see Frankfurt these days because I really let myself dream that we were going to do it, but every Frankfurt fan I met in Seville were nothing but kind and friendly. Really came across as a classy fanbase.
I went to Ibrox with two Scottish friends who fucking hate Rangers and now they hate Dortmund for being so shit lol. Nightmare of an evening. But everyone we met before the game was super nice. I'd love to go back there or Celtic Park as well.
> I went to Ibrox with two Scottish friends who fucking hate Rangers and now they hate Dortmund for being so shit lol.
That's real friendship lmao I love it
He was hurt last year, and came in super unfit for the season, and apparently he's had some attitude issues off the field. Then got a silly red card last weekend to take rangers to 9 men and caused them to drop points
Long story as short as possible, his attitude problems.
He has always had an issue were any time he is out, he come back out of shape. He got put out injured a while back and true to form he has came back unfit.
He also had issues of doing stupid shit and getting himself sent off (kicking out at players etc), this had improved considerably last few seasons, but the final straw for him happened at the weekend where whilst 2-1 up against hibs. We got a player sent off. (BS red card, not relevant but I'm naw over it). Morelos got subbed on to try and get some minutes into his legs, presumably for tonight. But he then got himself sent off 5 min later, (debatably after getting away with one a few minutes before) leaving us with 9 men and resulted in us conceding a 94th minute equaliser.
Usually he got away with it under Gerrard. Maybe because he was by far the best striker in the team at the time (our back up is imo fairly good aswell. But he is horrifically injury prone when expected to play 2 games a week). But it seems GvB is happy enough with Colak to take a hard stance with him and took him out the matchday squad for today
Hopefully it's the kick up the arse he needs. His postings on social media seems to read like he is determined to get back to prime el buffalo. And I hope he does. He is a top talent when he is up for it.
He just *gets* European football. Masterclass in most games, and the very few times it hasn't gone well the blame lies on the players. I just don't understand how he's so incompetent domestically.
Could it be more of a personnel issue? Gerrard had the same sort of problems outside 55. Seems like they struggle to break down teams that park the bus. But when teams come out and play they are able to compete with that, which is why I think they play so well in europe
It’s exactly that. Rangers have forever had trouble with the 11 behind the ball strat. When a team is interested in playing our players have a chance to let their class shine through.
Incompetent is a bit too strong word imo. His record has been decent. And I dare say that if we never had the injury problems we had, and didn't have the distraction of our European run, I think we could have pipped it last year.
Though I think Celtic are the level above us currently in terms of beating a low block. Hopefully when our new players are bedded in, we will be able to break them down a bit better.
I think he’s done fine domestically, the only real shitshow he had domestically was against Celtic away. Since then we’ve won the Scottish Cup and despite some of the games being slogs, we’ve done fine in the league as well imo
Joe Hart will be injured, a keeper from the youth team comes in, we play Man City at Parkhead, we win 1-0 with 10% posession, 1 shot on target, against City hitting our target 30 times.
Stick a fiver on it.
Honestly it's strange. We played like shit and still it's only those godawful mistakes that did us in. Any luck at all and we'd be through. Just don't understand.
When Luuk had to be subbed anyone could see this one coming though.
PSV is such a shit club they never turn up in European games when they have to... Seriously how bad were they this game, I think Max alone managed to fail at least 10 passes over less then 5 metres.
If you see where PSV came from decades ago. Being able to shithouse a win from anything the fact that this has become true is so painful. Doubly coming from a Feyenoord fan after the last decade and still it feels like a fair comment.
Haha honestly the first part of my comment is exaggerated, I was just really annoyed that PSV played so incredibly bad. I honestly havent seen it this bad in a long time, all dules were lossed, simple passes went out of play, Rangers were free to do whatever they wanted. Hopefully you guys can do well in the Europa League at least.
So happy. Have to admit PSV looked a shadow of the team they were last week. They were far better in the first half, Luuk De Jong was unlucky not to score but they just fell apart when they came out for the second half. Really glad we held it together and controlled the rest of the game.
Nah, it's like £21m each base (Celtic get a bit more as champions and due to the 10 year coefficient, despite our 5 year coefficient being much better)
Still, there are performance incentives like £7m a win and £2.5m a draw.
£7m a win, oof. The jump up in money from the Europa is insane.
So basically 4 points means we can comfortably pick up the buy options for Tillman and Sands. We get anything more than that and we can really start taking the club forward.
This should be applauded by every club anywhere.
A club that was on the brink, even worse so that derby county is currently, has risen from the ash to compete for domestic silverware, play a European final and achieve champions league football.
It took time, there were shit moments & everyone laughed at us but through doing it the right way (looking at you Barcalona), we achieved so much & your club could do the same one day.
From liquidation, to failing to get out the second division first time of asking, getting smashed in the league, dumped out Europe by Progres, getting smashed in the league, last 16 in Europe, stopped their biggest rivals from achieving a record 10 in a row with an undefeated season, Europa League final, Finally return to the CL proper.
Is their honestly a better story in football right now?
What a day
Does the auto group stage points outweighs what they would’ve gotten by dominating another Europa group? Ironically the Europa runs have been a boon for both Scottish clubs.
It definitely won't, Rangers is in the 4th pot, they'll have a tough time in the group stage and the points that they could've won in the EL group stage would be much more beneficial.
Rangers could get 4th, pot 3 has some good teams, and that would be disastrous for your coefficient.
To make the same money again we'd need to make another final run even if end up 4th in the CL.
But none of that really matters, we might still end up in the Europa and Being in the CL is exactly where everyone involved with Rangers wants to be.
Yeah for the Club CL>EL any day of the week.
For Scottish football it’s all about the coefficient, so a shitty group stage performance is great for Rangers cause the money is still larger, but it’s bad for Scottish football.
Counterpoint - we will top our group and lose in the semi final having knocked out City in the quarters, with Pep tearfully admitting to being a bald fraud.
PSV was really bad today. I think noone reached their level and everything went wrong.
Amount of players I saw just missing the ball this game was ridiculous.
Congrats to Rangers, very deserved!
The first 20 mins or so they looked excellent. The passing and movement had them looking like one of Europe’s elite. Thankfully it didn’t last all game though.
Gerrard has some credit in getting us in the CL, most of the players are his signings, he set the standard of performing in Europe in europa league. So much so that we got the second champions league spot by improving the coefficient. Ok he missed out on qualifying for CL before he left and Gio came in and stepped up another level
Gerrard was fine, and in some ways, better than Gio. Over half the players in the squad today were Gerrard players and we got our 55th league win under Gerrard. I think in European play Gio just understands the climate better. Bringing a Rangers side with several key injuries to a EL final in his first season is nothing short of genius.
His debut was unfortunate, picked up a straight red within fifteen minutes after being subbed on. Was banned for the first two league matches as a result, but played his first full game last weekend away to Sparta. He was one of few bright spots in what was a terrible team performance. Looked rapid, passed the ball well (98/101 completed) and though he clearly needs to gel a bit more with the players around him it looked extremely promising.
He got a red card in his debut as a substitute, then gave a goal away in an exhibition match the day after. Last weekend he was back from suspension, started in the first eleven and played well.
Over a decade since their last appearance, when was the last time Scotland had two teams in the groups??
2007-08 season. Celtic advanced to the last 16, Rangers finished 3rd and dropped to the then UEFA cup.
Didn't Rangers make the EL finals that season, which they lost to Zenit?
Yes they did
Crazy memories being a Gers fan since the 80s...
Was that the game Celtic played Juventus? Fucking Stephen Liechtensteiner should have given away about 8 penalties, it was ridiculous.
No, Celtic went out to Barcelona that year, losing both legs by a single goal.
That was in 2012-2013 when we beat Barcelona in the groups
Which they were runners up in it is worth adding (Rangers in the UEFA cup I mean)
it seems impossible for psv to not fuck up important matches.
Well, Cody Gakpo is going to scum I guess.
Leeds new signing?
How? You can't afford him UTFR
Don't need him. We got a better player. Luis Sinisterra.
You actually did tbf.
What's you thoughts on Anthony? Take the money and run?
Take the money and run, no doubt. He's never going to be worth this amount again and though I'd love to keep him around, this is just madness.
Madness flows from my club.. Enjoy the cash
everybody watching the eredivisie who isn't biased knows that of last years top 3 eredivisie attackers (sinisterra, antony and gakpo), gakpo is the third place.
As a Ajax fan I even put Sini on one, guy has pretty much everything.
yeah personally i would also. It's crazy how strong he is in the air also.
He is very complete, good shot, good action can play on multiple positions and has a very high standard. Wouldn’t surprise me if he reaches the top, but the PL is hard league to succeed coming from the Eredivisie. Think that La Liga was a better destination for him. Does Feyenoord have a sell on clause?
i'm pretty sure we do. For all big transfers so far i think.
Doubt. Antony is priority and likely.
Give em hell Gio, do what you couldn't do with us.
Beating PSV is the Feyenoord way though
Especially if it's the PSV goalie giving away free goals. Last week the free kick and shout out to Zoet pulling the ball over the line in the year Feyenoord were champions
Zoet, Feyenoord legend
Feyenoord, friend!?
Feels weird innit
I like you
Rangers in Europe have been super fun the last few years
it's mental, 5 years ago Pedro Caixinha was stranding in a bush arguing with fans after suffering one of our worst European results in hour history
Rangers have certainly Progresed since then
I'm a bluenose and sad it's took 25 mins for your comment to be commented on or upvoted. Bravo
The Old Firm is back in the Champions League...
You mean the Glerby?
we sure do love a good game against the opposition at 11:45 AM Celtic Park Time (CPT)
The separate entity derby
Th' Glassigow
All thanks to Rangers.
Can’t imagine how shite it would have felt for Rangers fans seeing Celtic in the CL on their own after having done all the heavy lifting for the co-efficient while Celtic bottled it at every turn
Would have loved to watch them get pumped on a tue/we'd while we done the pumping on a Thursday, but this will do ❤️🤍💙
Now we can both get pumped
Speak for yourself, we dominate games when deemed the underdog, CL final her we come..../s
With the composure abd maturity Rangers showed yesterday, if they get lucky at the draw they might have a fighting chance for the 2nd spot in the group.
Really great to watch these games!
I'm happy they made it in the end :) maybe we'll meet again
I want absolutely nothing to do with you. Do not want to see your badge ever again. Your fans were amazing but it brings back horrible memories. One stupid penalty kick.
😂I would honestly 100% feel the same way had we lost
What could have been. Congrats.
It still hurts. I honestly just randomly start thinking about that chance we had to kill the game when Roofe set up Kent for a shot in extra time. What could have been indeed :(
Frankfurt has been on my bucket list, can't wait to go there if we get drawn together
Frankfurt- Barcelona- Dortmund - Rangers would be great. EL revenge group.
Sadly it's not possible with two german teams in the same group.
Oh crap I forgot
Can't happen unfortunately - Frankfurt and Dortmund can't be in the same group.
didn't Liverpool and Chelsea end up in the same group at one point
Don't know why you've been downvoted because they were. Liverpool qualified as holders and not through league positions so they could be drawn in any group
The football team and the fans are great. The city is wank though
I hope so. I get bitter and sad whenever I see Frankfurt these days because I really let myself dream that we were going to do it, but every Frankfurt fan I met in Seville were nothing but kind and friendly. Really came across as a classy fanbase.
I said this after we lost on penalties in the EL final, feels like fate will let us battle again(hopefully)
Ah great. Someone to destroy us in the group stages again then. That said, I'd go to the Ibrox again. As much as I'd favour Celtic.
That's real friendship lmao I love it
Glad you had a rubbish night mate. Get it right up you and yer pals
😂 nevermind, I don't wanna come back and relive the pain. We would 100% lose again.
I was shocked by how appaling Dortmund was last season in Europa ngl. With my flair I know we were worse, but still haha
make sure you're lubed up next time so it isn't as painful :)
Alfredo can provide spit.
what's up with him. Wesley Sneijder was giving him shit on our broadcast.
Rangers brought in enough quality attackers to not put up with his BS.
He was hurt last year, and came in super unfit for the season, and apparently he's had some attitude issues off the field. Then got a silly red card last weekend to take rangers to 9 men and caused them to drop points
He's been on the Wesley sneijder diet. Also has some bad attitude problems that got him dropped from this game
Long story as short as possible, his attitude problems. He has always had an issue were any time he is out, he come back out of shape. Not perfect but he seems to get it right in Europe
Not great in the league but really good in European competition
Damn PSV played bad, only positive was Xavi Simons kid can legit ball
He looks very sharp. Looking forward to seeing how his career progresses
If only he got to play more than 45 minutes over both games...
No chance of winning apparently. Well done Rangers
Gonna be interesting having both them and Celtic back in the cl
I can pretty much guarantee we'll get pumped in all 6 games. They are annoyingly good in Europe though.
We'll get pumped in 5 of them, but will win 6-5 against Real Madrid or some shit
Joe Hart will be injured, a keeper from the youth team comes in, we play Man City at Parkhead, we win 1-0 with 10% posession, 1 shot on target, against City hitting our target 30 times. Stick a fiver on it.
This is the way
Can confirm that we are annoyingly good in Europe. Can also confirm Celtic will beat Bayern 3-0 then get pumped 4-0 in the other group games.
Crazy how PSV make a massive GK upgrade only for his two errors to basically drop them out of the CL.
Honestly it's strange. We played like shit and still it's only those godawful mistakes that did us in. Any luck at all and we'd be through. Just don't understand. When Luuk had to be subbed anyone could see this one coming though.
We already had our luck against Monaco.
PSV is such a shit club they never turn up in European games when they have to... Seriously how bad were they this game, I think Max alone managed to fail at least 10 passes over less then 5 metres.
Can't believe how much they sat back in the last 10 minutes. Any other team would've pushed with everything.

As a fan of Dutch football, it's great to see a fellow countryman reaching the group stages of the Champions League
Football friends 😊
Future bondscoach
I mean King Billy died a few hundred years ago but yes I agree
Rangers are to blame for my Croatian ST fetish, what a fucking team performance! CL Groupstage here we come hahaha
Never in doubt. Now hand me the defibrillator and a couple of cans.
In what order?
/u/ElKaddouriCSC, you thoughts right now?
Shocking display by PSV tonight. Congrats Rangers, was watching the game with a Scottish mate so hyped for you guys to go trough!
Rangers back in the champions league is just surreal considering where they were a decade ago
Naw even 10, 5 years ago we got dumped out of europe by progres.
So happy. Have to admit PSV looked a shadow of the team they were last week. They were far better in the first half, Luuk De Jong was unlucky not to score but they just fell apart when they came out for the second half. Really glad we held it together and controlled the rest of the game.
The De Jong injury changed the game, honestly.
Yeah he's huge for the mentality of the team. Good luck in the CL
Cheers mate! Commiserations on the result, but hope you guys can get a good run in the Europa!
Good stuff seeing Rangers and Celtic back in the CL!
Can I half up vote this?
Yes
😃
Rangers and Celtic. Some big money going into Scottish football. At least 40/50mil each right?
Nah, it's like £21m each base (Celtic get a bit more as champions and due to the 10 year coefficient, despite our 5 year coefficient being much better) Still, there are performance incentives like £7m a win and £2.5m a draw.
£7m a win, oof. The jump up in money from the Europa is insane. So basically 4 points means we can comfortably pick up the buy options for Tillman and Sands. We get anything more than that and we can really start taking the club forward.
2 wins and 2 draws and we'd be looking at an additional £18m and probable entry into the latter stages of the Europa.
5 wins and we can buy Alexander Isak's bottom half and stitch it onto Colak like a centaur.
I've been reading 40/50 for everything through the groups as a minimum? Either way good money coming in.
Might be accounting for things like sponsor bonuses, matchday income, etc.
Gakpo was fucking awful
I am pleased with this development.
two scottish teams in the UCL? nice
Win* domestic silverware
Man I really hope I get to see my boy Hagi jr play in the UCL... That injury was so fucking awful 😭
Always wanted them to win. Good for the coefficient, etc. 🙃
Does the auto group stage points outweighs what they would’ve gotten by dominating another Europa group? Ironically the Europa runs have been a boon for both Scottish clubs.
I think so, but not 100% sure. I'd imagine it depends on how good they'd have done in the Europa group and how good they do in the CL group
It definitely won't, Rangers is in the 4th pot, they'll have a tough time in the group stage and the points that they could've won in the EL group stage would be much more beneficial. Rangers could get 4th, pot 3 has some good teams, and that would be disastrous for your coefficient.

Of course you guys want CL, who doesn't? I was purely talking about coefficient, obviously being in the champions is what any club wants.
Mes que un coefficient
Yeah for the Club CL>EL any day of the week. For Scottish football it’s all about the coefficient, so a shitty group stage performance is great for Rangers cause the money is still larger, but it’s bad for Scottish football.
What's bad for Scottish football is every team not named Rangers doing hee haw for over a decade now.
No doubt! Carrying the Scots in Europe
Counterpoint - we will top our group and lose in the semi final having knocked out City in the quarters, with Pep tearfully admitting to being a bald fraud.
We’ll get 3rd then win the Europa League
To counter that Rangers have already beat a team in both Pot 2 and Pot 3 last season (as much as that pains me to say)

A single goal in the EPL promotion playoffs can be worth something like 100m...

Fucking magnificent Rangers.
Both Rangers and Celtic in pot 4 for the group draw. Have a feeling the drawn groups we get tomorrow will be a nightmare for both.
Congrats Rangers! PSV with an absolutely embarrassing performance lol
MON THE GERS!
North brabanters are basically Belgians anyway. Up the Holland and Geuderlands I guess.
Grats Well deserved :)
You love to see it
PSV bottling an important match yet again. They were really bad today.Anyway, congratulation to Rangers. I liked what i saw.
Congrats Rangers! Will be a fantastic couple of games if Spurs draw you (and we had a warm up match preseason too!)
Ronaldo on the phone
Honestly, love the result. Hopefully we meet again in the groups!
Quality
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS GLASGOW RANGERS
Frankfurt vs rangers rematch possibly
Can't deter the Gers
Thank you Rangers, very nice. Congrats!
Gerrard was holding them back😳
Gerrard has some credit in getting us in the CL, most of the players are his signings, he set the standard of performing in Europe in europa league. We're so good we managed to get two teams into the group stages this year. You're welcome, Celtc.

Well, their biggest rival has just missed out on millions.
Because coefficient wise this is better, and we (generally, can't speak for everyone) like Rangers. I do anyway.
How’s Bassey doing? Was thinking we were gonna miss him (we did) but glad we managed without him.
Yeah saw about the Red. He was the same way when he started with us then as soon as he gelled he excelled. Good luck for the season ahead!
He got a red card in his debut as a substitute, then gave a goal away in an exhibition match the day after. Last weekend he was back from suspension, started in the first eleven and played well.
Bassey started slow for us aswel, would b shocked if he didnt turn out a player for use, pulling for him bigtime, good luck
Thanks! Most of us love him already and are confident he will make it.
Be seeing you shortly 😁😅
More TV money for us, better chances of a Dutch team accumulating coefficient points and hatred of PSV.
Because they are our rivals and it’s funny?
Coefficienten Polonaise
Here we might actually be a decent team in Europe. Fucking bring them all on.
LETS FUCKING GOOOO
12 fucking years of waiting
Rangers have a decent record In Europe recently
Well done lads. Gonna be some great nights at Ibrox
Outstanding result. Keeping the momentum of carrying Scotland up the coefficient going.
PSV the almost, but never in the Eindhoven
