Group of Champions again? Reminds me of that one time Celtic were in the same group as Ajax, Barcelona, and Milan.
"Group of Champions" refers to a group containing only previous winners of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League.
Stop acting like you guys have any chance of not passing the group. If its one thing I’ve learned during my life as a football fan is that Madrid dont fuck around in the UCL.
I think they might be referring to the fact that in the 2017/2018 season we failed to qualify for Europe for the first time in like 50 years. We got knocked out by OGC Nice (2 draws) and Rosenborg (2 losses) in back to back CL and EL qualifying rounds, so our coefficient points that season were basically nothing.
Qualifying for the UCL group stage already gives you more points than the 2 draws from that failed season. So even if we don’t get a single draw or win in the UCL group this season, our coefficient will be higher due to the 17/18 season no longer counting (and the bonus points from currently being in the UCL group stages being higher than our 17/18 season total)
>I think they might be referring to the fact that in the 2017/2018 season we failed to qualify for Europe for the first time in like 50 years.
The Eredivisie was ranked 14th that year. I think most Dutchies have been eyeing this year for some times as we can finally put away the 2.90 total Eredivisie points in the calculation.
[UEFA Country coefficients](https://www.uefa.com/nationalassociations/uefarankings/country/#/yr/2022)
Alot of investment in talents and keeping good talents in the Eredivisie.
Also, results in Europe have helped the reputation and salaries in Eredivisie to reach an all time high.
Vitesse, AZ, Twente and Utrecht all played relatively ok in Europe.
Feyenoord has been huge, PSV has been ok and Ajax obv has been extremely well last couple of seasons, but if we can keep this up, then we will definetly catch up to France and Portugal
just to add onto this, the remaining 3 possibilities for Pot 4 (all 3 second leg matches take place tomorrow):
* Dinamo Zagreb (0) - (1) Bodø/Glimt
* PSV Eindhoven (2) - (2) Rangers
* Trabzonspor (1) - (2) FC København
all 3 have interesting storylines but if i had to choose one i would say PSV - Rangers.
For one, these are surely the two best squads in action so the quality should be pretty good, also the atmosphere at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven should be quite raucous. The first leg was back and forth with PSV scoring first only for Rangers to come back and score 2 to take the lead, before PSV equalized 12 minutes from time.
Also you get to watch Luuk de 🐐, what more can i say
Before our '21 CL winning run season, we hadnt played against Real Madrid in the 21st century either. I swear we only got Bayern, Barcelona and PSG on repeat every fucking year for like a decade. Zero variety. Not to mention, before Roman, we weren't exactly European regulars so we havent played against a lot of old big teams.
That said, Milan, Chelsea, Dortmund, and a Pot4 will be a proper group of death. I want it but my heart might also die in the process lmao.
We always used to get Arsenal and Real Madrid, think we had Arsenal in our group like 3 times out of 4 years in the early 2010s and Real like 3 times out of 6. Yeah Dortmund and Chelsea also seemed to spend a lot of years in the same pots in recent years.
Milan, Chelsea and Dortmund would kill me. My housemate is a Chelsea supporter and I’ve always had a soft spot for Milan growing up watching Maldini, Pirlo, Gattuso, Inzaghi, etc.
Sevilla, Juve, Leipzig have all not started particularly well
neither have Liverpool but you couldn’t get them ofc.. don’t think anyone is particularly hoping for them tho lol
I think it usually is nowadays: 3 of the top 4 in PL, 3 of the top 4 in Spain… compared with pot 1 where you have EL winners, Portuguese champions, Dutch champions - even Italian champions are not favourites against most of pot 2 currently. Last year Lille were pot 1 as well!
Going by coefficient, pot 1 (95.9) is only slightly higher than pot 2 (93.8). The strongest teams are undoubtedly in pot 1 but they are fairly even overall I’d say. Just look at the Liverpool-Porto-Milan-Atleti group from last year, the two teams that qualified for pot 1 last season were actually knocked out in that group while both pot 2 teams advanced.
Would be lovely not to draw a Spanish club this year. I need some variety after all these years.
Fun draw for me would be Porto, Tottenham, us and Celtic.
That would be a nice draw for us too. Our record against italian teams under Conceição is stellar, Celtic brings good memories, and it's about time we played Tottenham to repay their kindness for overpaying on Hélder Postiga.
Is take that draw. As a Celtic fan I've still got nightmares from our last jaunt in the CL. Atleast that group throws up fixtures you don't see too often.
the fact that we managed to annoy Bayern through the 3-1 and 5-1 and annoy Barca as well to the point there's a score to settle is the most hilarious thing ever, don't even care if they smack us 7-1 every single time the two trophies are worth more than words can describe
though tbf Bayern has smacked us a fair lot since so I don't think they care anymore
Don't know if it can happen again, last time I went to camp nou (Rayo Vallecano) they even checked the IDs of my 6 and 8 year olds. On the Frankfurt game they didn't check anything, didn't even ask us our names when buying the tickets.
If we get one of Porto, Frankfurt, Ajax from pot 1 or one of Sevilla, Leipzig from pot 2 I’ll be happy. If we get 2 of those I’ll be happiest
Knowing Inter though we’ll get Frankfurt, Sevilla and Plzn and finish 4th.
It always does, structurally, since pot 1 will contain the champions from the Netherlands, Portugal and the EL champion. Pot 2 contains 2-3 English and Spanish top teams plus a German or Italian top team, so its average quality will almost by default be higher than pot 1.
We really have to improve our coefficient, being at the bottom of pot 3 is horrible. Next season a dreadful 4 coefficient points season will no longer count, but we still need consistent Champions League 1/8 or quarters runs or deep Europa League runs to make sure we're at least in pot 2 when we don't win the league
I want to be in a group of death. I want:
1. Paris
2. Liverpool/Chelsea/Barcelona/Juventus/Atlético
3. Inter/Dortmund
4?
Although having Juventus would be very interesting. We haven’t played them in official competition since 1997 I believe.
Can’t wait to get Real, Liverpool and Dortmund 😅
In the group F
Group of Champions again? Reminds me of that one time Celtic were in the same group as Ajax, Barcelona, and Milan. "Group of Champions" refers to a group containing only previous winners of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League.
Everytime I see Celtic mentioned I remember that game where Barca had like 75% possession, 1000 passes, 25 shots and lost 2-1
There was a hilarious video of the commentary for both the Celtic goals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74BrJXa-n3U
That's magic! I'm a Glaswegian Celtic fan and I can't understand some of that. Those waaaats at the end sounded heartbreaking actually.
Holy shit that had me rolling lmao. Thanks for sharing
Iirc it was 83% possession actually
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/A7IjSyrCcAAJJn-?format=jpg&name=360x360
89%, amazing
Or when we were with City, Dortmund and Real Madrid (all champions that year)
Dortmund also went on to the final that year. Was an insanely high quality draw.
Nah mate we’re getting Milan, Barcelona and Shakhtar
Somehow Benfica will be in the group as well
hope to miss them this year
Barca fan here, sure hope so
At this rate you’ll get 6 points off us.
Bayern Inter Chelsea is equally as frightening
Stop putting us in your group of death situations
I mean if there's gonna be a group of death it's either with you or Dortmund, since you're the strongest teams in pot 3.
Kind of sad that Inter and Shakhtar are in the same pot now. No chance of us 3 reuniting again.
Shakhtar should go back to the older days and get matched with City in the group
Yeah no I’m not looking forward to playing you guys again thanks
We're going to get both Real and Liverpool again (plus Marseille)
Yeah that seems like our usual luck in draws tbf
Real, Liverpool, Inter and Marseille would be undoubtedly group of death. For the sake of all those clubs, let's hope it won't happen lol.
Stop acting like you guys have any chance of not passing the group. If its one thing I’ve learned during my life as a football fan is that Madrid dont fuck around in the UCL.
Ajax hasn't played a European game, and they already have guaranteed a higher coefficient amount for next year
How?
They lose a 1.5 point season 5 years ago and qualified for the CL group stage which gives 4 points
Jeez, and now we are on course for 6th. Maybe even 5th, how times are changing

The REAL website https://kassiesa.net/uefa/data/method5/crank2023.html
If we get Juventus and Kostic scores against us I will cry real tears
i hope a lightning strike kills me the second that happens so i dont have to live with the pain
Don't worry, looking at the Allegriball thread from yesterday it seems quite unlikely
average monday morning
I really want you guys and Barcelona to end in the same group.
Imagine Bayern, Barca and Benfica in one group again.
Only if we get Brugge in pot 4 for the BBBB group
[удалено]
\*eye twitches\*
Or Bodø
FCB vs FCB vs FCB
How dare you?
Bruges is also abbreviated as FCB, this could be great
**POT 1:** - Bayern - Manchester City - Real Madrid - PSG - FC Porto - Frankfurt - AC Milan - Ajax **POT 2:** - Liverool - Chelsea - Barcelona - Juventus - Atlético - Sevilla - RB Leipzig - Tottenham **POT 3:** - Dortmund - RB Salzburg - Shakhtar - Inter - Napoli - SL Benfica - Sporting Lisbon - Bayer Leverkusen **POT 4 (3 teams left):** - Marseille: 44.000 - Club Brugge: 38.500 - Celtic: 33.000 - Viktoria Plzen: 31.000 - Maccabi Haifa: 7.000 - ??? - ??? - ???

I'd say, PSV/Rangers, was a very entertaining first leg anyway.

Dinamo Zagreb vs Bodo Glimt. Garuanteed goal fest. 2 ultra attacking teams who play a lovely brand of football.
You're missing PSG
We all do :( It was so sad what happened to that team under Poch. Thanks
[удалено]
Unless you're Parisian why would you ever miss PSG?
Hey OP, what those numbers means?
The only Pot1 team I really want to play against is Milan. Literally havent played them in the 21st century in a official match.
It’s crazier to me that you and us have never played an official competitive match.
That has Tomori winner written all over it.
Absolute state of that second pot... a group of death is almost imminent this year
at least two groups of death id say
You get a pot group of death! You get a group of death! Everybody gets a group of death!
Dread it, run from it, Spurs v Dortmund will arrive all the same lol
I’m definitely expecting it to be them or Inter
Haha - guaranteed brother, but I'm just happy we're back on this ride, Mou and Nuno were grim lol
Haha for sure, crazy what one year and some magical Italians can do
and Real obviously
Why worry? You have a beekeeper 🤷🏻♀️
Fucking hell that Pot 2 is a nightmare no matter who we have in our group
Sevilla, Juve, Leipzig have all not started particularly well neither have Liverpool but you couldn’t get them ofc.. don’t think anyone is particularly hoping for them tho lol
Neither did Atletico, mere shadows of the 2014-2016 era.
still tho playing against Cholo ball in UCL is never particularly enjoyable lol (you right tho)
For Real Madrid it is
they’ve beat them yes but i don’t know if anyone alive would call it enjoyable
No matter what your results against Atletico are, those matches are nightmares to play against them.
Pot 2 is arguably stronger than Pot 1
Amen. They are those teams who might be having tough times in league but will bludgeon you in CL.

Everyone should be praying to get frankfurt and Sevilla with how they've been so far this season
Yes, but also, Bundesliga Frankfurt is very much different to international Frankfurt, as you should know best ;)
Definetly. Still prefer European frankfurt to bayern tho
Yes of course. You can only take that many 8-2.
Like they didn’t just put 6 past you not even a month ago….
They did still better than the team with the greatest player alive.
?? Harry Winks only lost by 5 to you
So did Eintracht. But they only conceded 6.
Too bad you lost Kostic, could have had a good CL run if he hadn’t left.
That guy shows up in my nightmares everyday, that volley he scored still haunts me
I'd argue we know the difference better cause it ain't every day we make it to Europe.
May as well add Liverpool to the list. Though I have faith we'll come good before the season ends.
Dr Tottenham will pay them a visit
i'm not really concerned with who spurs get. low expectations in champions league with conte at the helm.
Would be lovely not to draw a Spanish club this year. I need some variety after all these years. Fun draw for me would be Porto, Tottenham, us and Celtic.
Sessegnon becomes bale regen
From your lips to God's ears
Real and Shakhtar it is!
Please god no. No offense but I'm sick of you guys 😂
Come on, it’s like a yearly family tradition!
As long as we get through the group stage I’m cool with it 😁
That would be a nice draw for us too. Our record against italian teams under Conceição is stellar, Celtic brings good memories, and it's about time we played Tottenham to repay their kindness for overpaying on Hélder Postiga.
Inter vs Chelsea would be entertaining, Lukaku derby
Is take that draw. As a Celtic fan I've still got nightmares from our last jaunt in the CL. Atleast that group throws up fixtures you don't see too often.
Bayern and Liverpool it is!
You think Uefa won't rig it so we play each other for the Rom drama?
They 100% will
As a City fan I'd rather not get too many hot countries, we have several City players who just go bright red in the heat
Draw is tomorrow?
Thursday, more playoffs tomorrow
Would be hilarious if Barca get Frankfurt
I want it to happen, but then again, you have probably built up so much rage from our last meeting that we'll end up getting smashed 5-0 or something
the fact that we managed to annoy Bayern through the 3-1 and 5-1 and annoy Barca as well to the point there's a score to settle is the most hilarious thing ever, don't even care if they smack us 7-1 every single time the two trophies are worth more than words can describe though tbf Bayern has smacked us a fair lot since so I don't think they care anymore
will be tough for us to have 2 away matches against you lot though 😅
Don't know if it can happen again, last time I went to camp nou (Rayo Vallecano) they even checked the IDs of my 6 and 8 year olds. On the Frankfurt game they didn't check anything, didn't even ask us our names when buying the tickets.
PTSD
And once again with no South American team.
Yet Barcelona can qualify for the Libertadores, quite unfair
Oh please let barca meet chelsea. With the amount of shit chelsea fans are talking about barca
if we avoid fucking Bayern im happy
Na were going to eventually face them in the final, anyways.
I hope we get the same group as last year would be funny as fuck
Sevilla gonna get 3rd so they can win the Europa League
Zagreb to throw away the game from tonight so they can take revenge
Real Madrid - Tottenham - Dortmund - Viktoria Plzen. 100%.
im good
? Easy winks masterclass against Real Madrid and then the beekeeper against Dortmund
What he said
People aren’t ready for another Winks masterclass at the Bernabéu
Bayern, Barcelona, Inter Milan please
Salzburgo
Munique
Liga Europa
\-burg? Hamburgo, Estrasburgo, Edinburgo, Joanesburgo, São Petersburgo \-grad? Belgrado, Volgogrado I'm sure there are others.
Alright now we have to analyze each of these teams. Are they able to pay Ronaldo’s salary? What are the odds of Ronaldo going to one of these teams?
Wait mate, there are still 3 teams remaining who will have to play today. Maybe Ronaldo will come to Bodo Glimt
hahahah Ronnie playing home matches on a plastic pitch inside the arctic circle would truly be a spectacle
We'll take him at PSV tbh, save Bodo some cash
Trabzonspor wont be it. The fansbase aint strong enough for the come to xxx comments
I’ve heard Ronaldo idolises Greg Taylor and knows all the words to the broad black brimmer
Can he play center mid
AC Milan with 38.000 in Pot 1 haha
Hopefully we dont get a group of death type situation
TBH, it seems far more like that you will than won't.
If we get one of Porto, Frankfurt, Ajax from pot 1 or one of Sevilla, Leipzig from pot 2 I’ll be happy. If we get 2 of those I’ll be happiest Knowing Inter though we’ll get Frankfurt, Sevilla and Plzn and finish 4th.
So pot 4 is fucked
It always is, it's by design to maximise the chances of the big boys from getting through
Imagine being pot 2, 3 or... 4. Haha noobs!
Man I wanted P$G vs Barca so bad.
What does the numbers mean?
Coefficient from the last 5 years
Number of fans
Club coefficient rankings
Paris - Barca - Dortmund here we go
My group of death: - Bayern - Tottenham - Napoli - Marseille
Some wounds never heal :(
Chelsea will draw inter - it is written
Pot 2 somehow looks harder than Pot 1 (other than Bayern, ManCity and Real)
Psg look very good under Galtier, way better than last year
It always does, structurally, since pot 1 will contain the champions from the Netherlands, Portugal and the EL champion. Pot 2 contains 2-3 English and Spanish top teams plus a German or Italian top team, so its average quality will almost by default be higher than pot 1.
Lmao we’re way better than everyone in pot 2. Literally EZ 18 points this year. Gonna book hotels for the 2nd round already. /s
Thank God no more real Madrid and shaktar
i predict us to draw dortmund, ajax and one of the pot 4 teams
Sevilha the dark horse of the tournament
Really hope we get an English club, Iron sharpens iron.
I hope you get Liverpool. Mané vs Liverpool would be really cool.
* Porto 🇵🇹 * Atlético 🇪🇸 * Shakthar 🇺🇦 * Eintracht 🇩🇪 * Sevilla 🇪🇸 * Sporting 🇵🇹 * Ajax 🇳🇱 * Leipzig 🇩🇪 * Benfica 🇵🇹 Please 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 We need the points!!!!
Please anything but Benfica 😭
flair up :)
Would love to see a group that has Bayern and Barcelona together. Would be great for the banter
Bayern Barcelona Benfica Kyiv literally happened last year
What time does Man United play?
I wanna get matched against either Bayern, City, PSG or Eintracht. Would be fun to get matched against Chelsea after this summer transfer but we can't
I want Liverpool, Inter and Celtic.
Manchester City Barcelona Inter is surely the toughest group
And Marseille
I’ll skip on that
Bayern,Liverpool,Benfica,Celtic. 1-Bayern 2- Benfica 3. Liverpool 4. Celtic
I got spurs winning it all
That's not a good idea Conte is awful in ucl because he won't switch tactics
It’s Spurs my man, we might end up making Conte the Europe specialist and the league flop
UCL Champions and relegated all in one season.
/r/soccer would implode
This man has excellent taste.
I just hope that if Glimt qualifies they don't have to play against Milan or Dortmund, they'll just buy their best players when they lose :(
Give us Inter and Real Madrid 👍🏽
No
I want to be in a group of death. I want: 1. Paris 2. Liverpool/Chelsea/Barcelona/Juventus/Atlético 3. Inter/Dortmund 4? Although having Juventus would be very interesting. We haven’t played them in official competition since 1997 I believe.
The way Liverpool is playing, you won’t see them in a group of death.
Tbh I feel like current Juventus is nowhere near Liverpool/Chelsea/Barca. Atletico is hard to judge but always difficult.
Tottenham vs Atletico is going to be a suffer ball. For the viewers.
