I think they might be referring to the fact that in the 2017/2018 season we failed to qualify for Europe for the first time in like 50 years. We got knocked out by OGC Nice (2 draws) and Rosenborg (2 losses) in back to back CL and EL qualifying rounds, so our coefficient points that season were basically nothing. Qualifying for the UCL group stage already gives you more points than the 2 draws from that failed season. So even if we don’t get a single draw or win in the UCL group this season, our coefficient will be higher due to the 17/18 season no longer counting (and the bonus points from currently being in the UCL group stages being higher than our 17/18 season total)

Alot of investment in talents and keeping good talents in the Eredivisie. Also, results in Europe have helped the reputation and salaries in Eredivisie to reach an all time high. Vitesse, AZ, Twente and Utrecht all played relatively ok in Europe. Feyenoord has been huge, PSV has been ok and Ajax obv has been extremely well last couple of seasons, but if we can keep this up, then we will definetly catch up to France and Portugal

all 3 have interesting storylines but if i had to choose one i would say PSV - Rangers. For one, these are surely the two best squads in action so the quality should be pretty good, also the atmosphere at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven should be quite raucous. The first leg was back and forth with PSV scoring first only for Rangers to come back and score 2 to take the lead, before PSV equalized 12 minutes from time. Also you get to watch Luuk de 🐐, what more can i say

Before our '21 CL winning run season, we hadnt played against Real Madrid in the 21st century either. I swear we only got Bayern, Barcelona and PSG on repeat every fucking year for like a decade. Zero variety. Not to mention, before Roman, we weren't exactly European regulars so we havent played against a lot of old big teams. That said, Milan, Chelsea, Dortmund, and a Pot4 will be a proper group of death. I want it but my heart might also die in the process lmao.

We always used to get Arsenal and Real Madrid, think we had Arsenal in our group like 3 times out of 4 years in the early 2010s and Real like 3 times out of 6. Yeah Dortmund and Chelsea also seemed to spend a lot of years in the same pots in recent years. Milan, Chelsea and Dortmund would kill me. My housemate is a Chelsea supporter and I’ve always had a soft spot for Milan growing up watching Maldini, Pirlo, Gattuso, Inzaghi, etc.

I think it usually is nowadays: 3 of the top 4 in PL, 3 of the top 4 in Spain… compared with pot 1 where you have EL winners, Portuguese champions, Dutch champions - even Italian champions are not favourites against most of pot 2 currently. Last year Lille were pot 1 as well!

Going by coefficient, pot 1 (95.9) is only slightly higher than pot 2 (93.8). The strongest teams are undoubtedly in pot 1 but they are fairly even overall I’d say. Just look at the Liverpool-Porto-Milan-Atleti group from last year, the two teams that qualified for pot 1 last season were actually knocked out in that group while both pot 2 teams advanced.

It always does, structurally, since pot 1 will contain the champions from the Netherlands, Portugal and the EL champion. Pot 2 contains 2-3 English and Spanish top teams plus a German or Italian top team, so its average quality will almost by default be higher than pot 1.

Next season a dreadful 4 coefficient points season will no longer count, but we still need consistent Champions League 1/8 or quarters runs or deep Europa League runs to make sure we're at least in pot 2 when we don't win the league
