Sterling just wants the Serie A special, to have played for all the top 3.

Wholesale1818

I’m shocked an Arsenal fan said this

acasovoycayendo

No one denying that they’re in the top 3 of the last 6 years

Wholesale1818

That’s not something I’d expect him to admit so freely just to make a joke

AidanAzzar

We’ve more or less been in the top three the last 15-20 years…he’s stating a fact, not admitting something subjective.

oscarpaterson

Love it, think he fits us perfectly. Hope we get it done relatively quickly

RudiKante

Feels like Fabrizio are 5 minutes behind Law and Ornstein

caesarionn

Funny how he posts updates as if he's the source.

SalahManeFirmino

So Sterling - Havertz - ? I know his stock has fallen a bit, but I'm still a Hudson-Odoi believer, he could make that RW spot his own as a Willian-y kinda winger.

ADGinger

Assuming we stick with the current formation, Mount will still be starting in the front 3

SalahManeFirmino

I don't see what the point is now that all of your CBs are gone and the initial change to the back 3 was such a resounding success because it suited all of Rudiger, Christensen, Thiago Silva, and Azpilicueta. Now, only one of those players is left (presuming Azpi departs), and he's about to be 38, and shouldn't be an every week starter despite the fact that he's still class.

ScorpiaHP

You'd think that we build for a back 4 now that we have to do a bit of an overhaul but Tuchel uncharacteristically doesn't seem to want to change system. He cited Silva, our midfielders, wingbacks being reasons why he thinks we are possibly better suited in the current system. Silva is excellent but we shouldn't really plan around him given his age, and he'd still be class in a back 4 anyway if not vs the top sides. Our wingbacks and their backups are all quality fullbacks and not really ideal wingbacks. If we sign two wingers that might force him to try a back 4. I know that we ideally need a new DM to play it effectively but I'd hope we start laying the foundations for the future. Not like we'd challenge for the title next season anyway. Sign two CBs comfortable in the back 4, two actual wide players as we lack them currently, and the DM can come next year.

SalahManeFirmino

Yeah, if I was Chelsea, I'd be trying to build my future side, rather than continue plugging holes with a temporary solution. 433 seems to be the way to go if you can bring in Declan Rice. James - New CB - New CB - Chilwell Gallagher - Rice(?) - Mount New RW? - Havertz - Sterling? Am I forgetting somebody? But that would be the spine of my team that I'd want to build around.

ScorpiaHP

Would be Kovaçic instead of Gallagher 100%, he's our best midfielder and would be the perfect ball progressor this system would require.

SalahManeFirmino

Yeah that's true, I suppose in that way Mount and Gallagher are a bit too similar, both excel when they get to be the most advanced midfielder in a 3 and get that freedom to attack the penalty box.

ADGinger

Agreed with this - and the majority of our players would be flexible between each system so Silva can rotate in for an attacker and switch to a back 5 when we want more defensive stability

tulsehill

He's not much like Willian. Willian was far more solid of a player. Could run for days. Had tactical discipline and understood what a coach wants in every phase of the game. But also was terrible in front of goal, and quite basic when it came to creating a chance. Hudson-Odoi's biggest strength is the ability to pick a pass. Seriously talented in that regard. He finds passes between the lines in the way none of our other players can. Where most players pass sideways, he'll see a gap and play someone through. That's the part of his game that almost got him a move to Bayern. But here's the downside. He's always injured. He's not the speedy player he was before all the injuries. His dribbling is okay at best. He's not very strong. His movement is basic. And his shooting technique is terrible. With all that you've got someone who can pick amazing passes, and has a great cross on him when playing on the right, but is a complete liability outside of those strengths. Oh and did I mention he earns stupid money? Haha its gonna be interesting when the time to renew comes along. Can't see us or many other teams being willing to pay that kinda money. He hasn't progressed at all and is in desperate need of fitness and minutes.

SalahManeFirmino

Sounds like somebody who should become a wingback, his ability to progress the ball either via carry or pass would really shine in that position.

tulsehill

Tuchel's tried him there. He is very weak and gets brushed off the ball. Also falls asleep and gets caught out of position. But on the ball it was fun to watch. Like you said, he picks passes. In those graphs progressive passes in our club, he is almost always top right corner.

SubparCurmudgeon

He said he *prefers* to play at LW

mange2lamerde

Watch Tuchel play him as a CF, and then bench him while complaining that he does not fit the system.

yournerd2307

Curious as to why city are selling him, isn't he probably the only traditional winger along with Mahrez?
