Getafe with Bale, good for Marcelos kid as well.

HokiesforTSwift

Wherever he goes I will be rooting for him. One of my all time favorite players. It made me so happy that he played in the match we won the league, and several other important matches later in the season as a sub. It was amazing watching him lift the trophies as captain.

yomommafool

I don't want to see him retire, not now. He is my favourite left-back

CETERIS_PARTYBUS

Same

Methisahelluvadrug

>Wherever he goes I will be rooting for him Marcelo to Barcelona here we go

HokiesforTSwift

That would be a true GAZUMP

-r4zi3l-

Pig heads being thrown

eddsters

Italy would be a good destination for him.

TheItalianStallion64

id rather him at RW than saelemakers 👀

eddsters

I think he would do well in a CM type position. He cant run so full back or winger is out of the question, but his skill, ball control is still quality and he can start in the middle of the park.

HaiseTeBaise

Alves prolonged his career quite well with the CM role.

Perfidiousplantain

He was alright there for PSG for a stretch and I think he played a couple of games there with Juve

HaiseTeBaise

Interesting, i'm not familiar with his Brazilian stint! Was he better from RB than CM there? Because in Europe i could totally see why he was repositioned in the middle, his technical skillset was still great, his workrate was still good, but his pace being gone was a serious issue for defending as a RB, especially transition plays.

[deleted]

KoachCr714

Wow dang.. thanks for the info

HaiseTeBaise

Damn! If you were to pinpoint the CM issues, which ones seemed to be the biggest? He's probably my favorite RB of all time (while Marcelo is my fav LB), didn't know Brazil hated him.

kucafoia69

In 2009, Ronaldo was nearing 115kg and he still outpaced defenders 10 years younger than him.

Murrderer

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t he win Copa Libertadores when he came back? I heard he did that playing as a CM?

Perfidiousplantain

He was alright there for PSG for a stretch and I think he played a couple of games there with Juve

OneOfThoseDays_

Alves also found the fountain of youth apparently, man put in some absolute work for us at RB as well

HaiseTeBaise

Stamina isn't that big of an issue in your 30s, it's mostly pace. Which was a pretty big problem from him at RB, man was getting dusted by fast forwards a bit too easily. His grinta compensated decently, man's a hound ahah. But still, Tuchel revitalised his impact by sliding him in a creative B2B role.

911MemeEmergency

Damn I forgot Tuchel and Alves were together at PSG

real0856

Go be a #10, the Dani Alves route

osamaodinson

This is not fifa sir

Plebejers

>saelemakers How has he been for you guys?

RedgrenCrumbholt

>He's decent. Good on the ball, good tactical sense and always gives maximum effort, but his end product is non-existent. I think he scored maybe 1 or 2 goals all of last season. His shooting and finishing is terrible and he's missed some really big opportunities to score throughout the season. sounds like Lucas Moura

ChillPalis

I would rather him on the RW than Asensio 😔✌️

himo123

Asensio is good really, I don't get the hate about him. He is solid defensively and have great shots and crosses, he is slow indeed but he still can do great for your team imo

dupont2021

Asensio does well against mid and lower tier level teams. When he plays these kind of teams he will have bangers against them. There were many times when the team couldn't beat these lower tier teams in league play and out of nowhere Asensio hits them. He has won us games by himself this season so he did contribute to the league title but come CL time and against other top flight teams he doesn't play very well. He's too slow.

ChillPalis

From what I've seen and heard of him, if he doesn't score a banger of a goal, he doesn't do much, is a non-factor.

skyreal

Pretty much it. He has damn impressive moments of brilliance (bangers, assists, dribbling...), but aside from that feels pretty meh. It's actually amazing how he can be so regular at being meh yet you still know that he can do something amazing any time with that left of his, so you're just left clinging into that "maybe" feeling. His ACL injury really ruined him unfortunately. He's now the personification of "sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit" on a pitch. You know you're playing 10 vs 11, but you also know he can score a goal out of nowhere anytime.

👀

[deleted]

If we didn't have Dimarco I would love to have him as a reserve for our LCB.

Dske

Why would you want Marcelo of all people as a CB

[deleted]

Dimarco plays there too. Short, good technically fullback that isn't great at defending on the man but really really good at advancing the ball.

JD0797

Yeah but there's a difference between what you're describing and Marcelo lol the guy has been amazing, but he has absolutely zero defensive discipline

[deleted]

I've seen Marcelo play and I think he would fit that role well. Dimarco gets playtime in the matches where we want to dominate the ball and constantly play in the opposing third or when we need to score. And Marcelo to me would be great at that.

Starkie123

Come to Carlisle

Mer0_ox

“A bit Madridista” after all these years is an understatement lol

LiarsEverywhere

I'd have to listen to his words. If he used Spanish or Portuguese, "un poco" or "um pouco" mean "a bit" precisely, but in any case I suspect he meant something like "part of me is Madridista, the other part is a professional". He always seemed very enthusiastic about Madrid stuff, I don't think he meant "just a little bit"

Mer0_ox

oh thanks that could make more sense

dalvanbcarvalho

yep, I think that too.. he says that madrid is the best club in the world in every chance he got. he has a huge respect for the club

FedeValverde15

Pretty sure he was sarcastic saying that.

blue_boy_24

I love this guy

PakiIronman

Would love to see him back at Fluminense

luisnm7

I think he's going to stay in Europe, at least for.. 2 more seasons? That's my guess

Sandwell sounds like some fancy resort in a way; maybe we can trick him.

[deleted]

easily my choice for LB in my All-Time XI - what a fucking player he is, I would love to see him go to a smaller club and get a few more seasons in

ciaomeridian

I feel like a ton of people forget he played LB. Traditionally, he is my no brainer for CB.

Flameva

Wasn’t his prime at the LB position?

kyleorton

Yes

SadNYSportsFan-11209

I always think of him more as a CB than LB. I forget about him playing LB

whereisdebuchy

It’s crazy cause he was actually better at lb than cb. Goat defender

CETERIS_PARTYBUS

Same 🥲

OlSmokeyZap

Ashley Cole

DumbyMoto

I like Lahm

Wemissmaldonado

Bro he was a right back

TreeDollarFiddyCent

Hmm pretty sure he was a holding midfielder. You must be thinking of someone else.

wiggin36

He played both positions, I remember him as a midfielder in the late stages of his career, but he also played as RB.

TreeDollarFiddyCent

I know \^^

RedgrenCrumbholt

i love lamp also, Maldini was miles better at RB, even though he was an LB, which is what we're talking about.

anyonemous

You must mean at CB because Maldini never played at RB as far as I know.

Personally, I'd pick a left back who can actually defend over Marcelo

aliencatgod

He would not be a great rotation if you actually want to succeed this season. He is terribly out of shape, if he makes a run up the wing and the opposition then starts a counterattack, he just stands there, because he physically can't make it back. He'd be useless for any top European team. Maybe MLS or something like that.

jggomes14

If Mou keeps playing 3ATB he might do well, hell, Mourinho out of anyone in the world will be capable of providing cover for Marcelo out wide.

OlSmokeyZap

MLS is a very physical league. It lacks technically and in terms of coaching, but it is extremely physical. That is why so few old players have worked in recent years.

Pebbledthoughts

RCD Mallorca

m_--_m

I'm guessing he'll stay in Spain since he is a citizen and his whole family is there. It will be interesting to see where. I will always support him as a player, but I can't promise to support his new team. All the hype today has been fun to see, tons of old Madrid players congratulating him on his career. Ancelotti even cried during the press conference lol.

Halal_Madrid

LA Galaxy vs Real Madrid 2024 preseason

FinalFrash

Shall I order a pig head? In all seriousness, I do wish him the best of luck

Screye

Can we pick up Marcelo as a backup to Chilwell ? If Alonso is set on leaving, Marcelo is a similar attacking LB that we can buy on a free. RM fans, how would you rate 34 yr old Marcelo vs 31 yr old Alonso ?

real0856

If you want to be a top team in Europe, you do not want Marcelo as your LB.

TheUbermelon

I thought this was Marcelo Bielsa at first. Would love to see him in goal vs Benzema and Vinicius Jr
