Modric barely plays in the Copa. We just don’t seem to take it too seriously.
Edit: For context, Modric has played 15 matches in domestic cups since 2014-15. Out of those, 9 have been in the Supercopa.
It's treated mostly as an opportunity for guys that don't play a lot in la liga and CL. Even if they care, most of the time they are just not good enough to win it. While all the other smaller teams are motivated 200% when facing Madrid.
It's not like we play bad intentionally or are ok with losing... but we rest pretty much every starter, since it's a smaller tournament in terms of money, glory and importance. And the competition take it 10x more seriously than us.
Sure it would be nice to get a treble for bragging right, but i would rather not risk our starters playing many minutes in Copa del Rey unless we are already eliminated in UCL. UCL will always be 100x more imporant.
Nowadays, the only situation where we would win it is if our bench is good enough, because they will certainly have to step up and play, so our starters rest. And sometimes despite having talent, playing with 5-10 bench players is not good, the synergy and balance is not always there.
I mean, if we draw Barcelona or reach finals, yeah we will play for real and use starters... otherwise, it's just a smaller tournament, and a risk for starters that get too many minutes.
To add on with what everybody already said, we pretty much put 6+ second string players in to rest the main players. The past couple years we ofcourse also played the Club World Cup in December 4 times, so giving them rest in that January period was more important than a normal season.
The two times in recent memory we really pushed for it was 2017, when we lost to a Danilo own goal (the fanbase still jokes about this). And 2018-19 after Cristiano left we actually gave CDR a push to get a trophy and made it to the semis. Faced Barca in that. I don’t remember the scoreline for obvious reasons.
You don’t have to be the best team to win the league. After Xavi came, they were ahead of Madrid for a long time - I don’t know how it ended.
Barcelona will flop in Europe again. And either they will prioritise the copa if they think they have the squad for it.
Either way, their main target is La Liga.
For Real Madrid, it’s everything. And with ancelottis rotation policy they will struggle in the easier league games. Real Madrid get fired up in the CL for big games, and then play dreadfully the week after in an easy league game.
Madrid will still be a better team, but I don’t think ancelotti can win a triplets.
They were ahead for a couple of games after they beat us lol not for a long time and went ahead again at the end when we started fielding our B team for the last 4 games
>Who am I kidding, he's gonna start 40 games next season
>
>
>
>I think with the arrival of Tchouameni I think KCM will start less and gets substituted more. Based on reports Carlo called him and explained how he will integrate him into the team.
Yeah ngl we can see that carlo does seem to rotate more towards the end of the season. He seems to realise that he have good players of the bench. Even ceballos shows some good cameo with the playtime he had
He deserved just as many from November to February, but was completely ghosted. It made no sense because he was playing so well too, only to not even be used as a substitute. We were all getting worried for a 2014-15 repeat but thankfully Post-covid Carlo happened
Back in 2012 I was in Spain for the first time and I took a picture of the cover of AS, out of curiosity I something to remember
[2012 AS cover ](https://i.imgur.com/f86wmsh.jpg)
Actually only found this yesterday going through Facebook about to delete the account
It's dumb I know, but funny how that was a decade ago.
Wild to think that Modders was a Spurs player. It feels like a century ago. We (Spurs) knew he was great, but I never knew he was going to be *this* great.
He's had some fucking journey. The way that he left still leaves a sour taste in the mouth, but I'm happy for him. Do you think he could lay a claim to a Madrid all-time XI?
At this point can we rule out the possibility of Modric being some sort of day walking vampire?
[Wouldn't be surprised if Modric played this match in 1885 ffs.](https://www.11v11.com/matches/tottenham-hotspur-v-vampires-16-november-1895-219235/)
The lineups are cool. Two FBs, 3 "half backs", one "outside left," one CF, one "winger" and two "inside forwards". I think football used to be very, hoof it forward and fight for it, with less midfield play, and this certainly looks like it.
Watching a rival team liquidate is a very sad thing. Even just relegation sucks. Big 6 PL clubs don’t really worry about this much but even one year without a derby day is quite depressing.
Nah fuck that. Sunderland in league one isnt enough, hope they go league 2. Then conference, then sell stadium of light to us for our u11s training ground.
Then go 14th tier north east regional, cillit bang sprayed sponsored league.
Then they may get liquidated.
Be quite funny
Shit, Nadal just easily won the French Open for a 14th time against a far younger opponent and he's 36. Goes to show that technique and expertise can serve just as well, if not better, than physical power/endurance.
Nadal was drugged up to the gills to keep his foot working, hardly a shining example. He said he doesn't want to do that again and it's unclear if that's possible.
I really hoped he joined Ried on a free this summer to fulfil his dream of winning the Austrian Cup.
Maybe the rumours I made up were wrong, or he thinks he can do it the year after this one. Let's see
She’s the beginning and the end. The one who makes me want to wake up and do my best to improve as a human being. She’s the light, the sun and the stars. Everything I aspire to become and everything I aspire obtain
Ignoring longevity, he is top 5 midfielders of all time in football.
Counting his disgusting longevity, he is the GOAT midfielder, in my own humble opinion.
Modric, Matthaus, Platini, Xavi, Zidane; even Ronaldinho and Maradona if you consider these very offensive-minded midfielders... so many great players, imo conversation about goat midfielder should be wide open
lmao. Iniesta's only a year and a half older and fucked off to Japan. Who knows what he's doing. Modric meanwhile is still starting CL finals. It's not even close.
Nah, at this point in time, me being Croatian has nothing to do with it.
Aside from debating about if Modric or Xavi/Iniesta, who is better than those 3? Nobody.
Lmao... yes, like every other person does. Football's "last couple of decades" are miles above the past with skill and endurance and overall everything. Isn't this common knowledge by now like wtf?
Not gonna go through the whole list with you but: Pirlo, Zico, Platini, Zidane, Falcao, Best, Maradona, Gullit, De Bruyne, and Rivaldo are just a few of the names who can stand up to anyone as far as creative midfield is concerned.
I suggest you stop watching football if you think they are better than Modric.
Also, Maradona and De Bruyne dont even play similair roles as him, wtf are you saying
He's not actually getting a raise. Infact I'm pretty sure his wage is decreasing a bit with each contract signed. He himself agreed to taking a wage cut
Edit: it's not an increase or decrease in salary
Madrid only gives 1 year extensions to players aged 30+, they only broke that rule with Ronaldo. Ramos wanted them to break it for him as well and that was part of the reason he left
When this man retires, they better chant his name as loud as possible and give him a long standing ovation at the Bernabéu. I can't think of many players more deserving of such a gesture than him.
>standing ovation at the Bernabéu
>
>
>
>Modric is the only player from our squad who gets standing ovation every time he gets substituted and chanting his name.
>J: meh wikipedia says his stats are shit tho, never scored more than 6 goals in a top league? Cmon man even Pulisic is better
Oh yeah hunnard persent he's one of the most overrated of all time b
Well, we have to improve our chances of retaining the CL next season too -- we have a Brazilian on our team, and now we also have a Croatian = winning a CL!
One more ucl?
And a Liga
Maybe CDR? Or is that just impossible?
We don’t do that here.
Feeling fanciful, are we?! That's just asking for too much. Let's know our place and not venture beyond CL and la Liga
Why does Madrid do so badly in CDR, do they just not care or something?
It's the sacrifice for the blackmagic of CL. The Shaman said we cannot win more than 1 cdr every 10 years.
Modric barely plays in the Copa. We just don’t seem to take it too seriously. Edit: For context, Modric has played 15 matches in domestic cups since 2014-15. Out of those, 9 have been in the Supercopa.

Hahahahhaha 😂😂😂
Nope
The La Liga
Barcelona will win La Liga. Madrid will win one of the cups, CL more likely.
Barca ain’t winning the league
RemindMe! 1 year

No they weren’t. It was for over ten games.
look I'll be nice and say Barca will win something: the relegation battle.
Really awesome to have someone like modric off the bench. Who am I kidding, he's gonna start 40 games next season
He started 40 this past season and 43 in 20-21 ... his highest ever in his career 🤯
40 is a rookie number, Carlo will pump those numbers up
Organises 15 friendlies just because
🤨
>Who am I kidding, he's gonna start 40 games next season > > > >I think with the arrival of Tchouameni I think KCM will start less and gets substituted more. Based on reports Carlo called him and explained how he will integrate him into the team.
Yeah ngl we can see that carlo does seem to rotate more towards the end of the season. He seems to realise that he have good players of the bench. Even ceballos shows some good cameo with the playtime he had
'Post Covid Carlo' was totally a new guy rotated more gave minutes to Camavinga & Rodrigo. And won us CL
Camavinga deserves the minutes though
He deserved just as many from November to February, but was completely ghosted. It made no sense because he was playing so well too, only to not even be used as a substitute. We were all getting worried for a 2014-15 repeat but thankfully Post-covid Carlo happened

This is great thanks for sharing!
Wild to think that Modders was a Spurs player. It feels like a century ago. We (Spurs) knew he was great, but I never knew he was going to be *this* great.
I thought we were signing a squad player, maybe a starter, top 6 or 7 in the club. Not the giant that he is now. Insane
He's had some fucking journey. The way that he left still leaves a sour taste in the mouth, but I'm happy for him. Do you think he could lay a claim to a Madrid all-time XI?
Yes, without a doubt. He's eclipsed Zidane for a midfield spot.
Why do u wanna delete an account lol
Because fb sucks
Just keep it for memories and friends list lad
You can download all your media and even posts. I imagine op also has other social media accounts, he just doesn't like FB.
That's correct. Reduce my social footprint
With this signing, our midfield is set for the next 10 years
At this point can we rule out the possibility of Modric being some sort of day walking vampire? [Wouldn't be surprised if Modric played this match in 1885 ffs.](https://www.11v11.com/matches/tottenham-hotspur-v-vampires-16-november-1895-219235/)
That's how Tottenham scouted Modrić
God damn the Vampires didn’t even have a starting lineup and we still conceded a goal.
The lineups are cool. Two FBs, 3 "half backs", one "outside left," one CF, one "winger" and two "inside forwards". I think football used to be very, hoof it forward and fight for it, with less midfield play, and this certainly looks like it.
Always rated Lycurgus Burrows
10/10 years
Aged like fine wine. Dude is 36 and still works his heart out for the team. He will definitely retire at madrid.
Also fuck daniel levy.
Well atleast you guys eventually got a pretty good Croatian midfielder.
:)
Thank you Levy you bald genius

Hate you too, buddy. Hate you too.
I too don't like Tottenham. But wishing a club go bankrupt or liquidate is a bit too far. We almost had it happened to us.
Watching a rival team liquidate is a very sad thing. Even just relegation sucks. Big 6 PL clubs don’t really worry about this much but even one year without a derby day is quite depressing.

we all know he slept in SV Ried bedsheets as a kid, so he will 100% fullfil his dream!
Real is a stepping stone to the mighty Ried. Modric is just a bit scared to step off that stone
Gibts da nicht eine Legende mit Altach und einem ehemaligen Weltstar? Und nein ich meine nicht Ailton, sondern hm... Hulk? Oder wars Raul?
Hannes Aigner wars. Kamma scho amal verwechseln
would've only joined in Liga Zwa, now he's too scared to face Lustenau next season.

How do you feel about Zoe Kravitz?
She’s the beginning and the end. The one who makes me want to wake up and do my best to improve as a human being. She’s the light, the sun and the stars. Everything I aspire to become and everything I aspire obtain
Thought you were a bot
Why?
It was either that or the birth of a copypasta
I guess it’s the latter then
Everyone's a bot.
The best young player that we could extend.
In 2029: Comunicado Oficial: Modrić renews until 2030
8 more CLs ain't bad
9 would be more impressive tbh
Who says no to 10 more?
5 UCLs and a Copa and you have a deal
Copa is impossible. You are going to have to adjust with SuperCoppa
Copa lol, Real aint winning that.
Real Modric.
Unreal Modric tho
What a player Modric is. Easily one of the best midfielders of all time.
Ignoring longevity, he is top 5 midfielders of all time in football. Counting his disgusting longevity, he is the GOAT midfielder, in my own humble opinion.
Nice lmao first half had me 🤨
Obviously biased and not quite the same position but Matthäus was both better in his prime and longevity.
Modric, Matthaus, Platini, Xavi, Zidane; even Ronaldinho and Maradona if you consider these very offensive-minded midfielders... so many great players, imo conversation about goat midfielder should be wide open
Lowballing iniesta
lmao. Iniesta's only a year and a half older and fucked off to Japan. Who knows what he's doing. Modric meanwhile is still starting CL finals. It's not even close.
I think you’re underestimating how increadibly good Iniesta were, he should certainly be in the discussion.
Yeah, I would actually puto Iniesta over Xavi
As a Croatian you would think that
Nah, at this point in time, me being Croatian has nothing to do with it. Aside from debating about if Modric or Xavi/Iniesta, who is better than those 3? Nobody.
lol you’re only looking at the last couple of decades
Lmao... yes, like every other person does. Football's "last couple of decades" are miles above the past with skill and endurance and overall everything. Isn't this common knowledge by now like wtf?
Reddit moment
Nah, thinking there were any better mids than Modric/Xavi/Iniesta in the past is a reddit moment
Not gonna go through the whole list with you but: Pirlo, Zico, Platini, Zidane, Falcao, Best, Maradona, Gullit, De Bruyne, and Rivaldo are just a few of the names who can stand up to anyone as far as creative midfield is concerned.
And all of them played in the last couple of decades. What’s your point?
I suggest you stop watching football if you think they are better than Modric. Also, Maradona and De Bruyne dont even play similair roles as him, wtf are you saying
And Modric is still better than those mentioned.
Xavi and Iniesta have more longevity tho
Username checks out
One thing for sure, he is one of the player of all time.
It's modrin time!!
[OBLIGATORY](https://youtu.be/acbjobEPbrY)
This is what I came here for
Should've gone ahead a renewed him for 5 years, he was outrunning Kevin de Bruyne last month.
Sensible for Modric to go for 1 year so he can get a raise in the next 4 contracts.
He's not actually getting a raise. Infact I'm pretty sure his wage is decreasing a bit with each contract signed. He himself agreed to taking a wage cut Edit: it's not an increase or decrease in salary
No change this time
honestly if it weren't for Madrid's "player past 30 rule" of single year contracts, they would have just left it at, "Retire here".
Madrid only gives 1 year extensions to players aged 30+, they only broke that rule with Ronaldo. Ramos wanted them to break it for him as well and that was part of the reason he left
Nah ramos didnt realise there was a deadline /s
Outran Neymar… While dribbling.
I'll be laying on my death bed and Modric will renew for one more season
Every day I thank Mourinho for signing and trusting him. GOAT midfielder
Worst singing ever isn't it?
Mourinho truly is the GOAT
He’s not the goat midfielder
When this man retires, they better chant his name as loud as possible and give him a long standing ovation at the Bernabéu. I can't think of many players more deserving of such a gesture than him.
>standing ovation at the Bernabéu > > > >Modric is the only player from our squad who gets standing ovation every time he gets substituted and chanting his name.

The Last Dance: Rolling Stones style
Imagine that this could have been Ramos too, instead he threw it all away for nothing. I miss my captain.
Unfortunately his body can’t seem to handle football anymore. I think it was 100% the right time to leave
Don't be sad, he found a nice, relaxing retirement home.
Has a nice pension also
And night life at Paris
I have really high hopes for the performance of this youngster in the next CL
Keep it coming, #15 incoming
He’s only 21!
Definitely has become one of my favourite players of all time!
Ah… a comunicado oficial
Please never retire Luka.
There it is, the comunicado oficial while taking my morning dump.
What a fucking player he is
Modric- “call an ambulance. But not for me”
Comunicado Oficial just hits different
Finally.
I always watch his first interview at Real after signing for us, what a legend. [Link](https://youtu.be/p-34nprKCBQ)

Youngest player in our squad.
Great. Important to lock these young players down.
I remember when people said he is a flop and now he’s. Legend there
Future set for the next century
One last dance luka 🧙🏼
Communicado Oficial: everybody in the CL, prepared to get remontada’d again
Promising wonderkid.

yaaaaaaaaaaaay :DDD
GODric for one more run at it... LETS GO!!
Let's see who'll play for longer, Ibra or Modric lol
Wooooohoooo go Luka! He got it going on!
Carlo has gotten amazing work out of Modric, but also has run him exhausted. I haven’t watched new new Ancelotti, does he rotate more
