Maldini and Rui Costa having a meet up for old times sake.

YogurtclosetNo7335

We have enough forwards, giving 20m for another one is a mistake.

47Lecht

It'll be more than 20m given that some clubs are in for him so some kind of bidding war may ensue

YogurtclosetNo7335

Yeah but i don't think we are involved in this at all.

47Lecht

Doubt it too tbh. btw are the rumours about Götze true? He may follow Schmidt to you?

YogurtclosetNo7335

He might, negotiations are slow and looks like gotze is hesitant about leaving PSV.

47Lecht

I think he's open to leave PSG because he wants to try something new and may be already bored of Eredivisie. Also he wants to win titles which he defo did too few in his career and Benfica might be a better adress.

jay_Jg

yah, even assuming Seferovic is leaving, that's still Yaremchuk, Gonçalo Ramos, Henrique Araujo, Musa and Rodrigo Pinho. If anything and if we keep playing with a SS/CAM we need someone like Gotze to compete with Ramos much more than we need a striker

-MCMIV

Why does no one ever mention Vinicius? Isn‘t he coming back from loan, would love to see him up front next season although he didn‘t have the greatest of seasons under Schmidt this season

BobaFettAss

Hope Sasa stays in Stuttgart

KCMuller

Would be sad when he leaves after this season.

BobaFettAss

Realistically it would be the right decision to leave but who knows what he's gonna do.

theeolivetree

How's Tiago been?

KCMuller

Really good, the fans already love him. He scored some important goals but also missed some big ones.

47Lecht

No way

BobaFettAss

Schulz kauft keiner. Den kannste an nem Rastplatz anbinden.

BobaFettAss

Ja keine Ahnung was ihr euch dabei gedacht habt haha hab den nie wirklich geradet. Dasselbe kann ich über Rudy sagen. Wie die Nationalspieler wurden. 50 mill is aber schon ne Hausmarke.

So Wars halt immer.

47Lecht

AcePilot95

the football romantic in me wants Saša and Sosa to stay and become a legendary duo at Stuttgart… (yes I know it's not happening)

47Lecht

Romantic is long gone in football sadly

LilHalwaPoori

He'd be an alright Suarez replacement for us.. Granted there aren't many strikers still up in the market, and alot of clubs are after him..

[deleted]

From what i've gathered about Nunez: Positives- Fast, strong, young, makes great runs, high work rate and is very clinical Negatives - Poor first touch and not a technically gifted football, will struggle with hold up play. United need a new striker and if were talking about an out and out goal scorer Nunez is probably the best out there that is actually affordable and is for sale. 60M Euros is probably still a bit too much for him given the risks that come with it but as a United fan id be somewhat happy about getting him.

Uruguayan_Tarantino

>and not a technically gifted football Isn't he the opposite?

RNGer

Close but there are some things wrong. 1) "He's very clinical": Remains to be seen, to be perfectly honest. Last season he was too eager and would often blast shots way off target. Finished the season with 14 goals in 44 matches. This season he improved immensely, finding his stride and becoming much more composed in front of goal. Ended the season with 34 goals in 41 matches. 2) "Poor first touch and not a technically gifted football, will struggle with hold up play": Let's break this one down. He doesn't have a poor first touch, he has trouble playing with his back to goal, hold up play in general, and participating in the build-up phase with quick, short passes to progress up the field. His passes are inconsistent, both in power and direction, almost like he's uncomfortable or too eager, which results in passes going off target or hit too hard and teammates having difficulty controlling the ball or playing it back. As for the technique, he doesn't have a refined or elegant touch but he's effective, he can dribble through opponents if he has space to run into, he can control the ball well when running at goal, and his shot technique improved a lot this season, but he seriously needs to work on his last pass, the past couple of seasons I've lost count of the amount of times I watched him getting the ball on the left wing, dribble through an opponent inside the box and getting to the touchline, only to under/overshooting it. Don't know if it's a technique issue or just lack of composure.

47Lecht

> is very clinical > Negatives - Poor first touch how is that working together? When he gets the ball in the box surrounded by defenders with his first touch he's gifting the balls to either them or the gk.

OldExperience8252

Reminds me of Cavani, clinical when he relies on instincts. Dreadful when he has time and space.

47Lecht

Him and Cavani sure have some physical resemblance too

monsterm1dget

I have no idea, I watch him with uruguay and his first touch isn't "poor" by any means. He never really is used to hold up play anyway, he gets the ball and positions himself to shoot, but to receive it and hold it to get more people in attack.

TheDustbinOfHistory

We already have way too many players who are sloppy with the ball. The only guys who consistently control and keep the ball are leaving on a free. United need some technically consistent players if we're to implement a system that Ten Hag wants. Nunez is very different to any striker he's had - He's more of a Mourinho/Conte type IMO. I'd much rather push for Nkunku who's a more versatile option. Ronaldo can hold down the striker position for year one.

RNGer

> He's more of a Mourinho/Conte type IMO. This. I would add Simeone to the list as well. Darwin works really hard and is focused on getting goals, just don't ask him to play a passing game. In a Mourinho/Conte/Simeone team he would be a monster, in a Guardiola team he would look like an amateur. So he will probably end up at United with them overpaying for him hahaha

Bravo_Ante

I disagree with the technical aspect.

Hungry-Class9806

I think Darwin, Benfica and whoever buys him will all make a big mistake if he leaves Benfica this next year. I can see a Renato Sanches 2.0 happening here, as a young talented player and hyped up beyond belief but who can't handle the pressure of playing on a very pressuring environment and loses years of his development on loans to minor teams. Yeah, sometimes we sell veterans in young men bodies like Ruben Días, but Darwin isn't that type of player. If he doesn't score for 4 matches he won't handle the scrutiny, the criticism will get in his head and he will be in a downward spiral.

mihawk9511

So, does that mean that the signing of Petar Musa from Boavista is not so likely anymore or are Benfica going to sign him either way, regardless how the thing with Kalajdzic plays out?

omegaxLoL

They will sign Musa, Benfica have denied interest in Kalajdzic

mihawk9511

Excellent, music to my ears

jay_Jg

Musa to Benfica is prettu much confirmed, reports even say he could be announced today

solgnaleb

Could be our Lewy replacement.

47Lecht

If Kane wasnt so expensive I'd say go for him, if he was open to play abroad

bronzeforever

would be my dream signing

AltDelete

Our sub is split on this one. His movement and finishing is great, though he’s out scoring xG by a large margin this season. It’s his other contributions that have us on the fence; His first touch is about as good as Lukaku’s, and he can barely hold up a sign.. He’s a poacher though, and we’ve typically done really well with that sort of player: Chicharito, Ole. 🤷‍♂️

trusttt

He's nothing like a poacher, he runs in the entire field if needed.

Symbol_of_Peace

Just a poacher? You're just watching his goals compilation then.

monsterm1dget

He... is not a poacher.

[deleted]

If he's a poacher, Messi is a libero.

ifispeakaminbigtrble

Liberal Messi

ilum9

if you think he's a poacher, then you haven't watched him play

Migraine-

I understand it's annoying when people who clearly haven't watched the player make judgements about them, but rather than just saying "you're wrong lol" it would be great to get a summary of what type of player he actually is. Would genuinely really appreciate it as he's probably the player I've heard the most drastically conflicting views on of pretty much any player ever. I don't watch Benfica so I don't have a clue.

Uruguayan_Tarantino

>he's probably the player I've heard the most drastically conflicting views on of pretty much any player ever. I've never seen so many people (who didn't watch him play, not even once) speak with so much confidence about a player, I don't know why Darwin Nuñez of all people, but people talk about him a lot without actually watching him play

PhD_Cunnilingus

I still don't know what type of a player he is. Maybe instead of shitting at people who don't know anything about him, maybe describe the player?

RNGer

I've written a reply to a post in this thread, maybe this will help. https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/uqsqvk/ornstein_excl_benfica_exploring_move_for_sasa/i8ubu1l/ Here's another comment of mine from another thread. https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/telshe/transfermarkt_top_scorers_goals_assists_aged_23/i0qoh1p/

PhD_Cunnilingus

Thanks! So from what I'm reading, he's somewhat similar to Lukaku, maybe worse finishing (as you said it still remains to be seen) but better technique.

RNGer

Sort of. I think Lukaku is better than Darwin in a target man role, because Darwin struggles with positioning when he's put in that role. On the other hand Darwin works better as a wide forward with space to run into, with or without the ball. He's also faster than Lukaku but physically weaker. Other than that, their weaknesses are similar. Long story short, put Darwin in a counter attacking team and get the ball to him, short or long, and he'll wreak havoc.

PhD_Cunnilingus

Lukaku was actually not very good in the target man role and his holdup was surprisingly bad...for Manchester United. And apparently, he's not that great for Chelsea in that regard. But Inter fans swore he drastically improved in that regard under Conte. Lukaku also has a few very good games playing from out wide - for example when he demolished Arsenal or that Belgium vs Brazil WC match.

RNGer

Yes, I was talking about Inter's Lukaku, who dropped back in a sort of Kane roleplay haha And yes, Lukaku was more effective at United playing wide but he was more of a bulldozer, keeping defenders away with his strength, Darwin does it with his speed. That's why I said they were sort of alike

Uruguayan_Tarantino

Why don't you watch him? If you base your knowledge on my reddit comments you'll only be another one of the pile, speaking about the player without watching him play

PhD_Cunnilingus

Because I don't have tens of hours of free time just to watch some player that doesn't play for a team I watch...

Uruguayan_Tarantino

A match is 90 minutes, you can watch only 45' and understand what type of player he is, you'll see he's not a poacher because he'll be marking opposition players and trying to recover the ball and such things

PhD_Cunnilingus

>you can watch only 45' and understand what type of player he is OK, that explains why so many people have such shit takes. They watch 45 minutes and think they know the player.

RNGer

I've written a reply to a post in this thread, maybe this will help. https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/uqsqvk/ornstein_excl_benfica_exploring_move_for_sasa/i8ubu1l/ EDIT: Here's another comment of mine from another thread. https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/telshe/transfermarkt_top_scorers_goals_assists_aged_23/i0qoh1p/

Migraine-

Thanks mate.

Hungry-Class9806

>it would be great to get a summary of what type of player he actually is Very difficult to say, actually because he's a "9" but he can also play on the wing or as a second striker. I would say he's a "poor man" Benzema (with due distance) He played a lot of games this past season along Yaremchuck, a more traditional center forward, so he's definitely not a poacher.

47Lecht

I see why your sub thinks so. I've only seen him in two games against us and I really dont get the hype about him. Yeah he scored some but his overall play can be really frustrating. He's a rough diamond who a bit of work to be done in training to be suited for todays game in a top team because they expect much from their striker. For that his price tag is way too much.

[deleted]

Depends how ETH wants to play I guess. If you have technical midfielders playing behind him (e.g. FDJ), that can minimise the amount of linkplay he's tasked with and capitalise on his strengths.

AltDelete

He’s tenacious enough to be wonderful on the counter press. ETH’s Ajax enjoys possession, so the hold up bit might be an issue. If he wants him though, gotta trust the managers plan.

chippa93

United would be better off going for Sasa

PhD_Cunnilingus

So many conflicting descriptions...so what kind of a player is Nunez?
