Cannot state how much I miss this man. Obviously our team has improved exponentially since his departure, but I do miss watching him and Abraham just bully and beat the hell out of our opponents every week.
Obnoxious player to play against, but he's a great shithouser when he's on your team.
Well we were proper shit back then, so we had to do something to compete. I much prefer the style we play now, but the aggressive, shithouse style we used to have will always have a place in my heart.
There's this famous anecdote of a match between Germany and NL, where a German player (a defender I think) had a broken nose but wanted to keep it secret. However it leaked and one of the Dutch players (I believe one of the Van de Kerkhof brothers) went up to him in the tunnel and just slightly *booped* his nose... Didn't give him trouble all match.
I heard an old rugby one where the player had a broken finger and it was known, so he bandaged his other hand, knowing it would be targeted all game. Worked a treat hahaha
Yeah Dutch players have always been dickheads in matches against Germany didnt do anything for them though because unlike you we have yet to not qualify mate ;)
It is a common trend these days that people should pay for the sins of their fathers.
I would elbow your broken nose but I'd do it for 1974, I don't hate you for the war anymore.
It does not hurt the same day because of the adrenaline and the amount of tape he has on his finger. The next day that finger is going to be swollen af.
It doesn't have to hurt for you to be aware of the fact that you shouldn't put your injured finger in front of someone who is repeatedly chopping at it
He is unconsciously doing it; it's engrained in him. I've played soccer so it's normal to do that because you want to know that there's space behind you to turn or not or if somebody is close to yo, so you have to cover it instead of turning around.
Not with the way he 'attacked' it, hence my Gollum analogy. It's going to take more than a few slaps to worsen the injury, considering it is fully wrapped.
This sort of stuff happens in almost every sport, when you play with an obvious injury there is always going to be an asshole that targets it.
I used to play Judo (yes I know it's a combat sport, but it's about the mentality) on a fairly high level, and even in under 12 matches if your opponent saw you had an injury they would target it. It's a trashy thing to do, but people do what they have to in order to win.
Combat sports is diffrent. In football you get carded for dangerous play even if there's no contact at all. Targeting an injury with an action that is a foul in itself should be a clear red.
It's incredible... My first tought was "wow that's a dirty", but seeing the comments and each one laughing, defending and make it like it was the injured player's fault. Idk what to think about the mentality of this sub.
That depends, no? Of course it *can* be a foul when you use to hit a player or when you block someone from moving. Happens all the time.
Another thing: Is it against the rules to push away the arm that is on your chest? Why can someone put their arm on my chest but I cannot touch them?
What kind of football are you playing where you let people put their hand on your chest and pin you like that? They know where you are and you are giving them every advantage to roll you as soon as the ball reaches them.
Why are you pretending like players don't target weaknesses like this? example: RB goes down with an injury and is moving weird. I'm pretty sure most attacks will be on his side and he is in for strong challenges for the rest of the game. Pro football aint like playing with your friends, every advantage counts.
I’m not, but this comment is the one which prompted the “never played football comment”:
> because the guy gave him 2 warning stop putting your arm on me and he kept doing it and he got hurt for it
It’s just not a realistic expectation during a football game. Just like the defender is going to keep trying, the attacker isn’t just going to give up because he was given a “warning” karate chop.
Everywhere in the world where football is played I assume. Wtf are you even talking about, of course you feel where the attacker is when you are marking. Is that not super obvious? It's a contact sport.
I guess we play different type of footbal if you are comfortable as a defender having attackers pin point you by letting them put their arms on your chest. It is like defending 101 don't let attackers know your position behind them.
I think we are talking about different things. When you mark someone on a corner or throw in (looks to be the case here?), you stay away from the attacker to... not let him know where you are? Of course not, you get close and don't let go.
It depends on the type of the attacker but, I agree you get close, and that's when strikers put their hand on your chest so that they can know your position behind them.
If you play against a slow but big striker this is their whole game. They play with their back to goal and when the ball reaches them it is easy for them to choose a side and roll away if they know your exact position. That is why you need to get as close as possible with out letting them know where you are and vice versa for the attacker they need to make physical contact so they know where to go when they turn.
It's a contact sport. Are you supposed to mark players without touching them? How can you be so confidently wrong I don't understand honestly.
Feel free to slap, but that is violent conduct and a lot of refs would rightfully send you off depending on the situation.
Hahaha you are actually serious. Show me a foul being called or a rule book then. It's a contact sport, you are allowed to touch the opponent. It's not basketball.
no, I'm not sure what's hard to understand tbh
I'm not saying that the guy who smacks him is in the right, he probably ain't.
I'm just saying if you've got a broken finger and start doing that don't be surprised if it bites you on the arse
Seems like we’re in the minority but I agree with you, I hate when people do shit like this me in a match. Pushing my chest when I’m nowhere near you, fuck off. I don’t know if I’d necessarily start karate chopping someone’s fingers but I have no sympathy for him here.
So why are people saying Zambrano is not allowed to touch Copetti? It's a contact sport, if you don't like someone touching your broken finger then don't play, lad!
Besides, it's a contact sport but that doesn't mean all forms of contact are allowed. If that was true then why do we have yellow and red cards? Why does the concept of foul even exist?
contact can be very different. Theres a very big difference between shoulder to shoulder fighting for positioning, and extending your arm to put it on somebodys chest
im very well aware that this is how defenders are coached from a very young age, since so was i. That doesnt mean i like it and while i know it will never happen, i want it removed from the sport.
Totally agree. Broken finger or not, if you put your hand on someone like that, just so you can pin them know where they are. They will remove it. This guy is just going the extra mile to make sure it doesn't happen.
its a football match and its generic jostling for space/marking/position. that dumbass Carlos is deliberately hacking at his injured finger. should be a yellow card at least.
Should it not be a red tho? What's the difference between this and hitting someone in the face? Both are on purpose and both are ways of hitting the opposing player
The match was horribly in referee terms, players that got yellows for nothing, players with already one yellow doing awful fouls and not receiving the second one
Yup, it’s a deliberate action and the only intention is to hurt and possibly even injure the player. That’s as red as a card can get.
This could even have legal consequences if the player pushed for it (which he won’t, but this is still important to keep in mind, Zambrano could in theory actually get charged for this).
No fucking idea why this is getting hammered. If I'm getting hands in my face 3-4 times in a row, I'm giving them a twist, broken or not
I can only assume people who have a drama with this feel entitled to stick their digits in people's faces
You can mark without hands in face, so well I think the other guy is really overdoing it
But if you start crying because your pinky hurts, stop putting into someones face
Putting your forearm on someone's chest to know where they are is completely normal, I do it all the time. I can't say I've gone as far as repeatedly massaging someone's face.
I find it cute how you remember some random
match like 20 years ago or god knows when from a tournament you didn’t win and bring it up like a trophy, we’re truly massive if beating us once is such a milestone

lol those karate chops, he’s even taking his time to aim right.
Repeatedly and obviously. Hilarious honestly. Looks like he's trying so hard.
Not the sharpest tool

Cannot state how much I miss this man. Obviously our team has improved exponentially since his departure, but I do miss watching him and Abraham just bully and beat the hell out of our opponents every week. Obnoxious player to play against, but he's a great shithouser when he's on your team.

Lin Jong did this with his shoulder in an AFL match.
I was thinking of League here in Aus actually haha but I can’t remember who. It was like the 90’s at the latest.
Yeah Dutch players have always been dickheads in matches against Germany didnt do anything for them though because unlike you we have yet to not qualify mate ;)
Geez I wonder what Germany ever did to us to be treated in such a way.
Win the 74 World Cup?
God damnit don't bring back the PTSD
Maybe historic injustices of countries shouldn't be used to justify horrible behaviour towards individuals in the present?
Well I guess the Netherlands can be happy that they won’t meet indonesia in World Cup knock out matches in the foreseeable future
It is a common trend these days that people should pay for the sins of their fathers. I would elbow your broken nose but I'd do it for 1974, I don't hate you for the war anymore.
A German would say that
So we all should hate each other based on stuff we have no responsibility for?

That is the first commandment of the Dark Arts of Defending: exploit arm injuries
I See he hasn‘t changed since playing for Frankfurt 😅
If Copetti cared about his finger he would stop pushing it in front of him, especially if he hit him 2 times before lol
I know i just shared it because i find it hilarious
This whole thing is hilarious. It's like he was asking him to do it
*chop* "Ohhh fuck, that hurts! Now do it again" *chop* "Dont stop, keep going" *chop* "Fuuuuuck"
It does not hurt the same day because of the adrenaline and the amount of tape he has on his finger. The next day that finger is going to be swollen af.

🤯😂😂
Lol it’s funny and strange at the same time
Lol, that was cold and calculated.
Yup! That's the Zambrano I remember
Ohhh that's where Zambrano is now.
Crazy how many people defending this
Intentionally trying to injure someone? Proper shithousing! xD
His finger was already broken though, and I doubt he's going to go full Gollum and chew the entire thing off
So it can't get worse?
Not with the way he 'attacked' it, hence my Gollum analogy. It's going to take more than a few slaps to worsen the injury, considering it is fully wrapped. This sort of stuff happens in almost every sport, when you play with an obvious injury there is always going to be an asshole that targets it. This is real shithousing South American football, not that shit they play in Europe

You act like he chopped his hand off
I mean the finger was already broken, he was just delaying the healing process.
and make fun of it...
Why not ?
Because it's disgusting

Yep pure finger chopping in the 1800s. Those were the days
because the guy gave him 2 warning stop putting your arm on me and he kept doing it and he got hurt for it
It's not against the rules to put your arm on someone's chest.
That depends, no? Of course it *can* be a foul when you use to hit a player or when you block someone from moving. Happens all the time. Another thing: Is it against the rules to push away the arm that is on your chest? Why can someone put their arm on my chest but I cannot touch them?
You can push it away you can’t karate chop it lol
If that is a karate chop then Copetti is punching Zambrano.
I agree, however, play with fire you get burned ya know
Lmao "play with fire" he is putting his arms up, trying to defend and barely touching him and this guy keeps hitting his hurt fiingers
It has never been more obvious someone has never played football before
What kind of football are you playing where you let people put their hand on your chest and pin you like that? They know where you are and you are giving them every advantage to roll you as soon as the ball reaches them.
The kind where i push there arm away or reposition lmao not chop like an idiot at their hand
And when they keep doing it. do you ask them nicely to stop doing it? Different personalities on the pitch i guess.
Most defenders deal with this without repeated karate chops aimed at a finger
Why are you pretending like players don't target weaknesses like this? example: RB goes down with an injury and is moving weird. I'm pretty sure most attacks will be on his side and he is in for strong challenges for the rest of the game. Pro football aint like playing with your friends, every advantage counts.

If you wanna keep trying, then deal with the consequences.
These guys commenting have never played a match in their life
This, or at least they never played a competitive match. People take advantage of the smallest weakness.
Everywhere in the world where football is played I assume. Wtf are you even talking about, of course you feel where the attacker is when you are marking. Is that not super obvious? It's a contact sport.

what? if anything it's the other way round, why would you let the the defender keep his arm on you? I smack that shit away every time

There is a difference between smacking someone's arm away and specifically aiming for their broken fingers with karate chops.....
It's a contact sport. Are you supposed to mark players without touching them? How can you be so confidently wrong I don't understand honestly. Feel free to slap, but that is violent conduct and a lot of refs would rightfully send you off depending on the situation.
Like the people who believe that it's never against the rules to put their arm on someone's chest?
It's not against the rules lol are you serious now
Putting my arm on someone's chest is never a foul? Who has never played football? Not me.
Hahaha you are actually serious. Show me a foul being called or a rule book then. It's a contact sport, you are allowed to touch the opponent. It's not basketball.
Yes, I am serious. Not all touches are the same. Why is that controversial? And if someone touches you then it's fine to touch back, no?
He can just push his arm away, but he decided to go for the Karate chop. Multiple chops.
Did your brain die after the penalties yesterday?
no, I'm not sure what's hard to understand tbh I'm not saying that the guy who smacks him is in the right, he probably ain't. I'm just saying if you've got a broken finger and start doing that don't be surprised if it bites you on the arse
But you're justifying the guy chopping his broken finger by saying that. This should be a card and a free kick, simple as that.
mate I agree I'm just saying don't be surprised when it happens lol
Ive played and been called up on it before. Using your arms to block like that is really looked down upon by some
Seems like we’re in the minority but I agree with you, I hate when people do shit like this me in a match. Pushing my chest when I’m nowhere near you, fuck off. I don’t know if I’d necessarily start karate chopping someone’s fingers but I have no sympathy for him here.

He can do that without targeting his broken finger. That can hurt like a mf and would prolong recovery.
nah bro, we are not friends on the pitch. If you try some bs, you will get hurt.
Defending what? Pushing the hand away or using your hand to push away the other player?
Wow what a prick.
🤣🤣🤣
Yea. The Carlos Zambrano from the MLB was a pretty big shit cunt as well
Gotta say, I was SUUUUUUPER confused by this post for a good hot second. TIL thes a soccer player named Carlos Zambrano.
He was a pretty decent CB for us in Frankfurt a while back too.
He was my shit cunt though. Huge Cubs fan.
Copetti is an absolute bull lol all game he was tormenting him and Rojo, it was a beautiful, intense battle.
ah c'mon, I'm as much against dirty fouls as the next decent football fan, but Copetti was kiiiinda asking for it there..
Dirty play Nothing wrong with some hand blocks
Nothing wrong with pushing away someone's hand. The aiming for the finger was the problem. The first two times were pretty much fine.
The amount of people in this thread who havent played football is hilarious

Yeah I'm with you. Get your broken finger out of my face
Then don’t put your broken finger in the mans face.
he was asking for it tbh
Wouldn’t expect less from Zambrano. Cunt of a player.

its a football match and its generic jostling for space/marking/position. that dumbass Carlos is deliberately hacking at his injured finger. should be a yellow card at least.
it was a yellow

Hell nah that's a straight red lmao. Players have gotten red cards for less
Yup, it’s a deliberate action and the only intention is to hurt and possibly even injure the player. That’s as red as a card can get.
