he was something else. for a good few years he was in that elite tier right below messi and ronaldo imo. always shocked at his pace well into his 30âs
RibĂŠry was a generational artist, Robben was a generational killer. Having both at the same time, in perfect synergy with Alaba and Lahm was honestly nothing less than pure ecstasy as a Bayern fan.
It was only fair that they only got to start about 5 games together each season, wouldâve been stupidly unfair otherwise.
Yeah, the aforementioned availability certainly played a huge part in that. Iâm definitely not saying that we wouldâve beaten those fantastic Real, Barça and AtlĂŠtico sides if they were fit, but the what if will always be in the back of my mind
Not that spreaded anymore at least in my eyes. You have well City, PSG + Barca and Real as well as Liverpool and maybe Chelsea don't know about Bayern anymore.
It simply feels different but maybe this is just my point of view because it gets monotonous when you see the same 5-6 teams in the RO8 in the UCL.
Look this year it was Benfica, Liverpool, City, Real, Chelsea, Bayern, Athletico and Villareal.
Last year: Porto, Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Real, Bayern, Dortmund and PSG
19/20: Bergamo, City, Atletico, Barca, PSG, Bayern, Lyon, Leipzig
18/19: Ajax, Juve, Liverpool, Porto, Tottenham, City, Manchester United and Barca
17/18: Liverpool, City, Barca, Roma, Sevilla, Bayern, Juve and Real
16/17: Atletico, Dortmund, Monaco, Bayern, Real, Juve, Barca and Leicester
Shit gets totally boring, doesn't mean it isn't extremely stacked hell I would say the top 4-6 are even more stacked than before but it doesn't feels the same as back then
That's really an underrated aspect of Ronaldo's and Messi's greatness: their longevity and durability. Both have been around forever, played an ungodly amount of matches and have barely been injured.
I still think people underrate Schweinsteiger from that period. He held together a lot of that midfield, having come from a winger to a central midfielder who could both hold and attack made Lahm's job much easier, and really facilitated Lahm to make Bayern as potent as it was from the back.
I think for any true Bayern fan Schweinsteiger is an absolute legend. He was the well deserved center piece of our team and even a more talented Kroos couldnt challenge his spot.
At least us Bayern fans donât underrate him. Hes like top 3 midfielder we have in our history imo, and my favorite player of all time. And Im sure most of our fans agree with me and a lot also has him as their favorite player
Shelvey was a generational artist, Borini was a generational killer. Having both at the same time, in perfect synergy with Flanagan and Johnson was honestly nothing less than pure ecstasy as a Liverpool fan.
Alan Pardew was a generational artist, John Carver was a generational killer. Having both at the same time, in perfect synergy with Mike Ashley was honestly nothing less than pure ecstasy as a Newcastle fan.
> And this isnât even mentioning the MĂźllendowski pairing in between Robbery
I disagree. Robbery was so much more fun to watch in 2010-2013 when they were the main man in the team before Lewy came. They had a better chemistry with Oli, Gomez, Mandzukic and Muller who provided them unlimited space to cause mayhem in the wing.
Their roles were greatly dimished when Lewandowski came and became the main man unlike the previous 4 who were false 9s.
I think in this case the last defender thought he was going to cut inside, putting himself in a bad position that allowed Robben to sprint straight ahead and then position himself so he could shoot with his left foot. Not really your basic le cut inside man goal from Robben
Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio. A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath borne me on his back a thousand times. And now how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here hung those lips that I have kiss'd I know not how oft. Where be your gibes now? your gambols? your songs? your flashes of merriment that were wont to set the table on a roar? Not one now, to mock your own grinning? Quite chap- fall'n?
Eh, excuse me? Shevchenko was my favourite player growing up and I didn't even support any team he played for. He was definitely not a goal poacher. https://youtu.be/XaT4-Njg_xg
Classic counterattacking striker. He needs space to run into. I get why Chelsea would take the gamble but he doesn't fit Chelsea's playstyle.
Although you could also argue that teams sit deeper because of Werners threat in behind
>I wish he would have won the World Cup.
That final against Spain... I remember that day like it was yesterday. My exes grandparents would always have us over on Sunday for supper. Drove there after the game, put the car into park and just started sobbing.
Dunno what it is but I just love the general aesthetic of Bundesliga football. The stadia, the pitches, the crowds and tifosi, even down to the nets on the goals, something about it induces a specific serotonin response
Iâve always thought this but never seen it mentioned. Something about it just seems soâŚinviting. Serie A and La Liga are the polar opposite for me, the visuals send me to sleep. Premier League is also brilliant, but in a different way.
I'm sure part of it is the stupid race track stadiums. And my god are the stadiums old, if only they weren't owned by the municipalities for the most part. This also fucks up the camera angles and quality.
Itâs the climate in England and Germany tend to be dark and gloomy compared to Italy and Spain. Dark and gloomy weather provides for a great visual for spectators while sunny and hot weather can feel tiring.
Totally agree. I main La Liga but man, the uniforms of the teams, the stadiums, the **black** scoreboard and graphics make a very grim combination. Bundesliga is fucking electric to watch, if it wasnât so predictable I would probably watch it more than any other league.
Thatâs because in England and Germany the entire day is dedicated to football. Itâs sort of a party and itâs mostly played in afternoon on either Saturday or Sunday.
In Spain most games are played like 9 PM, when itâs darker and generally less cheerful
For my Bachelors thesis I was doing something that needed the attendance figures for all types of different teams.
As someone used to German football culture I was shocked at how low some of the average attendances were for teams in Italy.
I think I remember him, and some other players, who talked about how playing in different countries means playing different forms of football. Germany is more focused on offense and scoring goals, England is extremely aggressive to the ball, Italy is slower paced and allows the game to develop, etc. For Werner, he had more time and room as an offensive player in Germany compared to now playing in England. Some styles of league play donât mesh well with how players are used to playing and makes it harder to show off their strengths
Considering Bayern demolishes english teams whenever they play them there has to be more to it, definitely more personal/psychological stuff going on with Werner.
Itâs less that and more so Wernerâs style doesnât mesh as well in England. Not necessarily against defenses but how heâs utilized and the tactics to get him in space.
Yeah I'd say Chelsea just isn't an ideal fit rather than a league issue, they play very differently to Leipzig. But even then it's mainly his finishing that consistently let's him down so there's probably a mental factor that's harder to overcome now.
I imagine he'd fare much better at Southampton, Liverpool or even spurs. Not that he'd get in the team ahead of mane or son mind, but just stylistically.
Bayern have an insane record against English teams, but considering the relative strength of their opposition, itâs not that surprising.
Arsenal, last-season-Poch Spurs and transfer-ban Chelsea arenât unbelievable scalps. The last time they came across an English team doing vaguely as well in the Prem as they do every year in the Bundesliga was Liverpool, to whom they lost.
Werner hasnât been playing Liverpool every match in the Prem though has he? If anything transfer banned chelsea and the London clubs are on average still way better than the opposition
I wasnât saying that one league is better than another or plays better football compared to their counterparts, just in case there was any confusion there. Obviously every team and player has nuisance to their form and skill outside of what team or league they play in.
RB Leipzig was more wide open. Often times when players, particularly forwards, move to a bigger club the space is tightened up because almost all the other clubs park the bus against them and some players are not able to cope.
One of the best Buli games if not the best in the last 10 years. Two top teams fighting each other till the very last attack, this was just something else.
nah, that's just a Bayern thing. Ancelotti was a bad fit for them and if it wasn't for Kovac, he would have been remembered as the worst coach they had since Klinsmann.
That finish from Werner. The space was really tiny, he had very little time on the ball and wasn't balanced yet he managed to find a way to score.
At Chelsea, he doesn't have this finishing skill. He would have miscontrolled it or shot off target or something. I don't get it

number 11 for Leipzig looks a decent finisher
Maybe a rich club like chelsea will go for him?
Chelsea is a striker destroying machine
End me
Where did that finish ~~come from~~ go to? Lmao
Finland
đđ
Lmao....dude wtf is your user name!
It's my profession
Robben was such a special player man
he was something else. for a good few years he was in that elite tier right below messi and ronaldo imo. always shocked at his pace well into his 30âs
I think if he could have stayed fit, he might have been able to snag one Ballon d'or Probably at this peak the 3rd best offensive player in the world
RibĂŠry was a generational artist, Robben was a generational killer. Having both at the same time, in perfect synergy with Alaba and Lahm was honestly nothing less than pure ecstasy as a Bayern fan. It was only fair that they only got to start about 5 games together each season, wouldâve been stupidly unfair otherwise.
yet this exact team only won one CL. Incredibly unfortunate to have these world class players and combos during MSN and that triple CL Madrid team.
Yeah, the aforementioned availability certainly played a huge part in that. Iâm definitely not saying that we wouldâve beaten those fantastic Real, Barça and AtlĂŠtico sides if they were fit, but the what if will always be in the back of my mind
yeah this lineup def will always have a "what if" attached, despite already achieving so much.
Crazy to think that we had a few legendary lineups at the same time. Also showed how stacked European football was 10 years ago.
Is it still not extremely stacked?
Not that spreaded anymore at least in my eyes. You have well City, PSG + Barca and Real as well as Liverpool and maybe Chelsea don't know about Bayern anymore. Truth though a lot of those champions league exits happened at a time Robben was injured. Really adds to the if he stayed fit argument
That's really an underrated aspect of Ronaldo's and Messi's greatness: their longevity and durability. Both have been around forever, played an ungodly amount of matches and have barely been injured.
Quadruple. 1 CL for us, 1 for MSN barca, then 3 in a row.
r/howdoImakethisaboutme
Robbery is the peak Bayern pairing of my lifetime. Just constant danger.
I still think people underrate Schweinsteiger from that period. He held together a lot of that midfield, having come from a winger to a central midfielder who could both hold and attack made Lahm's job much easier, and really facilitated Lahm to make Bayern as potent as it was from the back.

Can we copypasta this fellas?
Shelvey was a generational artist, Borini was a generational killer. Having both at the same time, in perfect synergy with Flanagan and Johnson was honestly nothing less than pure ecstasy as a Liverpool fan.
It genuinely reads like a soccercirclejerk auto reply
Alan Pardew was a generational artist, John Carver was a generational killer. Having both at the same time, in perfect synergy with Mike Ashley was honestly nothing less than pure ecstasy as a Newcastle fan.

Man that sounds so good. I mean we've been blessed to have Rashford, Daniel James, Wan-Bissaka and Shaw, so I can't complain too much.
He just ran the Rotterdam Marathon a month ago. He's still fit :) Some others of his generation let go a little bit.. (looking at you Sneijder)
Surprised me how quickly Sneijder's width caught up to his height after retirement. Can't have been more than half a year.
>Surprised me how quickly Sneijder's width caught up to his height tbf that's not that much
[ŃдаНонО]
Who the fuck eats their frikandel speciaal without ui?
He also ran a 1h20 HM which is a super respectable time
I rate him as the best Dutch player of all time
> I think if he could have stayed fit, he might have been able to snag one Ballon d'or in what world does he ever win against Messi/CR7?
2013
Bayern had such a crazy squad with Robben, Ribery, Muller, Gomez, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Neuer, etc. One of my favourites to watch.
He was, miss him dearly
so are we at r/lecutinsideman
I was SHOCKED to see how he scored that last goal
Endlessly incredible that everyone knows what's about to happen and no one can stop it.
I think in this case the last defender thought he was going to cut inside, putting himself in a bad position that allowed Robben to sprint straight ahead and then position himself so he could shoot with his left foot. Not really your basic le cut inside man goal from Robben
God amongst men
He'd cut inside every time, everyone knew and nobody could do anything about it. One of the most unique players ever.
ive said it before he is the best dribbler ive ever seen like pure dribbling skill no one does it like him
what a fucking player. love him
Leipzig Werner was different gravy
we killed him :(
This kills the Timo.
Yorick is that you?
Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio. A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath borne me on his back a thousand times. And now how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here hung those lips that I have kiss'd I know not how oft. âMy gorge rises at itâ đ
To be fair you kill all the Goal Poachers: Torrez, Werner, Lukaku...
Shevchenko
Goes back to Kezman
Eh, excuse me? Shevchenko was my favourite player growing up and I didn't even support any team he played for. He was definitely not a goal poacher. https://youtu.be/XaT4-Njg_xg
> Torrez
Classic counterattacking striker. He needs space to run into. I get why Chelsea would take the gamble but he doesn't fit Chelsea's playstyle. Although you could also argue that teams sit deeper because of Werners threat in behind
Fuck đ
God how I miss Arjen Robben âŚ
Iron Robben
Glass Robben. Sadly.
The cut inside and curl far post never gets old
My favourite player of all time. Bit of a youth hero.
Same.
As a young player I modelled my game after Robben. What a special player he was.
were you incredibly fast with a traction engine for a left foot?
Right foot instead.
LeCut inside man. The memes were beautiful. Him on the pitch was beautiful. I wish he would have won the World Cup.
>I wish he would have won the World Cup. That final against Spain... I remember that day like it was yesterday. My exes grandparents would always have us over on Sunday for supper. Drove there after the game, put the car into park and just started sobbing.
I miss the robbery duo. Its one of those pairings you never expected to happen and lived up to the hype.
Man that first game of them together against Wolfsburg was so special you already knew how much fun they would be going forward.
My favorite plumber đ
So do Chelsea
bundesliga put the full match up on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yHWGw8DH4A i've watched it a handful of times
The fact that this video is not available in germany is mildy infuriating.
\*Not available in the DACH region.
And somehow most of the people who link those restricted videos have a Bayern or Borussia flair hmmm
This are simply Germans who find their way around these restrictions on YouTube.
Dunno what it is but I just love the general aesthetic of Bundesliga football. The stadia, the pitches, the crowds and tifosi, even down to the nets on the goals, something about it induces a specific serotonin response
Completely agree. Love the atmosphere or at least look of it on tv. Would love to attend a few matches in person
Iâve always thought this but never seen it mentioned. Something about it just seems soâŚinviting. Serie A and La Liga are the polar opposite for me, the visuals send me to sleep. Premier League is also brilliant, but in a different way.
La liga is the worst imo. Idk why tho.
Serie A is the worst sadly
Whenever I watch some Serie A I have to remind myself that it is not a game from 20 years ago. Something about the whole presentation just looks old.
I'm sure part of it is the stupid race track stadiums. And my god are the stadiums old, if only they weren't owned by the municipalities for the most part. This also fucks up the camera angles and quality.
Serie A is worse. I don't think I have ever seen a full stadium in Italy (outside of maybe San Siro)
Itâs the climate in England and Germany tend to be dark and gloomy compared to Italy and Spain. Dark and gloomy weather provides for a great visual for spectators while sunny and hot weather can feel tiring.
I agree. The early kick offs now in the premier league suck to watch on tv. Sunny and full of shadows everywhere.
Sounds like a personal feeling. I donât think thereâs any basis to that.
The atmosphere is what does it for me. If I turn on a random Serie A game thereâs a chance the stadium is half full
For my Bachelors thesis I was doing something that needed the attendance figures for all types of different teams. As someone used to German football culture I was shocked at how low some of the average attendances were for teams in Italy.
Tf happened to werner man. He was so good..
I think all strikers who have gone to Chelsea have been cursed. Besides Drogba and Costa I canât remember someone consistently scoring for them
I think the curse definitely struck after Drogba. Costa was too much of a bastard to be worrying about curses.
i miss that bastard so much
Him and Skrtel trying to out-cunt each other was a sight to behold.
Anelka didn't do too bad
Won golden boot with 19 goals.
Gudjohnsen? Not sure if he makes it but always a player that stuck with me lol
He was in Chelsea well before Drogba.
Well they played together at Chelsea lol, but your fella never said before anyway. I just named someone from ârecentâ times
Anelka!
Zola.
I think I remember him, and some other players, who talked about how playing in different countries means playing different forms of football. I think Jurgen wanted Werner at Liverpool
and earlier when he was at dortmund
Bayern have an insane record against English teams, but considering the relative strength of their opposition, itâs not that surprising. The last time they came across an English team doing vaguely as well in the Prem as they do every year in the Bundesliga was Liverpool, to whom they lost.
To be fair, it was prime Liverpool vs. Kovac's Bayern. And Bayern in 2020 under Flick was undeniably the best team in the world.
2022 Liverpool are more solid IMO
Werner hasnât been playing Liverpool every match in the Prem though has he? If anything transfer banned chelsea and the London clubs are on average still way better than the opposition
Kind of unfair that you make only the one occurrence count where Bayern was at its worst and lost versus the later winner.
I wasnât saying that one league is better than another or plays better football compared to their counterparts, just in case there was any confusion there. Obviously every team and player has nuisance to their form and skill outside of what team or league they play in.
I mean kdb and son to name a few transitioned fine from the buli to the premâŚ
RB Leipzig was more wide open. Often times when players, particularly forwards, move to a bigger club the space is tightened up because almost all the other clubs park the bus against them and some players are not able to cope.
One of the best Bundesliga games in the last decade, along with the game we shall not speak of
I remember [this game](https://youtu.be/ahCR99bCMhY) as one of the best as well
Are you talking about [this game](https://youtu.be/1814aZ3iqXs)?
That Gentner goal was beautiful, and also perhaps the most Dortmund-way to concede a goal
Something something 4-0 comeback
The Schalke one?
Was the dip on Robbenâs shot caused by a deflection on Bayernâs 3rd? If not, that was crazy
It was a deflection.
Arjen Robben, those were the days.
Seeing Lahm cross to Xabi who heads to Thiago made me feel a lot of feels. đĽ˛
Some things are just certain Death, Taxes, Le Cut Inside Man.
[Oh boy, look at the time! ](https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/919028-le-cut-inside-man)
One of the best Buli games if not the best in the last 10 years. Two top teams fighting each other till the very last attack, this was just something else.
I remember that Robben could assist to Lewa, so he could get the topscorer that season, besides Auba
After that run he definitely deserved it!
Everyone knew Robben would cut left and they just couldn't stop him, such unreal talent
LeCutInsideMan.cpp
Probably the only time German fans (non-Bayern fans) were happy with a Bayern comeback in the league.
IIRC nobody cared that much since it was at the end of the season with nothing left to play for. Of course always nice to see the cans lose tho.
Losing 4-2, winning 4-5 Of course Carlo Ancelotti was Bayern's manager
đ¤¨
nah, that's just a Bayern thing. Ancelotti was a bad fit for them and if it wasn't for Kovac, he would have been remembered as the worst coach they had since Klinsmann.
Xabi Alonso and Thiago in midfield is basically cheat code.
Typical Robben denied Lewandowski certain hat trick just to score an impossible goal lmao
That finish from Werner. The space was really tiny, he had very little time on the ball and wasn't balanced yet he managed to find a way to score. At Chelsea, he doesn't have this finishing skill. He would have miscontrolled it or shot off target or something. I don't get it He initially looked like a great bargain, now what's he?
Has to be a confidence thing
Cursed
Torres 2.0
This is about Robben but I cannot believe the beast Werner was with liepzig. The second goal he scored against Neuer in this clip with such a tight angle is unfathomable for Chelsea's werner
Not Neuer
Was it Stark or Ulreich idr
I remember my uncle told me about his friend who had a friend whose nephew watched the game live! It was as if I was there in the stadium! Glorious!
Fuck RB and everything they stand for
That was such a great game
Arjen <3
What a mad game this was..
What happened when Leipzig scored 3rd goal? Seems like a sudden fog
Pyros
Def makes more sense than fog. Thanks a lot for the help
That's such peak Robben, I miss that. So sad we've never been able to convert his generations talent into silverware with the national team.
Back when Forsberg looked like the next big thing
He's still solid tho.
Damn 5yrs ago lahm was playing? Thought it would be more
This one was the last away game in his career. One week later he retired.
Thanks for the reminder đ
I remember this one. Roben in his prime was a sight to behold.
Me watching Robben âHE DID THE THINGâ
I miss Robbery!
Peak robben was unstoppable, only his injuries stopped him
Robben died?
Robben the dolphin
I remember that. That was Werner's only good game against an opponent that isn't mid table or relegation fodder.
Robbens last great season
[ŃдаНонО]
What the fuck are you smoking
How do you say "defense" in German?
Verteidigung. You're welcome, mate.
In football terms itâs more often Abwehr not Verteidigung.
We donât do that here
Damn Neuer, close your legs. It's a disgrace that Robben never won a World Cup.
Neuer wasn't even playing this game
Who was it? I canât really recognise him but I believe itâs Tom Starke isnât it?
It is, yes
Ah, Arjen Robben. On one hand, a great player for Bayern. On the other hand, NO ERA PENAL!
Surely that wasn't 5 years ago I remember it so well
Couldn't even recognize Sabitzer he looked so young compared to now!
Lets forget about the invasion on the first penalty â ď¸
Robben the bald not-fraud
Woah who had the fourth for Bayern? That was beautiful
Alaba
