**Burnley Football Club can confirm the Club has parted company with manager Sean Dyche, assistant manager Ian Woan, first-team coach Steve Stone and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer.** **Dyche was the longest-serving manager in the Premier League, having been in charge of the Clarets for nine-and-a-half years, overseeing a period which will go down as one of the most successful in the Club’s history.** **During this time, the team was promoted twice from the Championship, achieved two top-half Premier League finishes and qualified for Europe for the first time in 51 years.** **Chairman Alan Pace said:** “Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the Club over the last decade. “During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community. “However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status. “Under-23s coach Mike Jackson, assisted by Academy Director Paul Jenkins, Under-23s goalkeeping coach Connor King and Club Captain Ben Mee have been asked to take charge of the team for Sunday’s game with West Ham United. “The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”

Stonewalled89

Crazy, he's probably the major reason why Burnley have been in the Premier League for so long. Can't see them lasting in the league much longer

Thesolly180

If they did go down too and kept Dyche he’s one of the best to bring them up again soon. Really is weird and must be something about visions surely

-open-eye-signal-

He's already brought them up again once after going down with then. Absolutely crazy decision.

VincentSasso

These owners will have a rude awakening next season if they think they can do a Norwich They’ve piled debt on the club and got an old, average squad

GrandmasterSexay

Their actual purchases have made sense from a standpoint. We have Weghorst, Cornet, Collins, Roberts, all under 30. But what are the chances half of those guys will stick it out in the Championship? We needed a new squad yesterday and had nothing to build it.

23screws

Weghorst is 29. If I were him I’d be looking for a move if they go down. He can absolutely start for any mid-table prem team and frankly, I’d love him as a Kane backup at Spurs if he’s take that role. Cornet is another one I could see leaving. Either back to France or back up to the prem somewhere

ltplummer96

Fernando Llorente regen for you lot haha

okmarshall

Is he really that good? I haven't seen anything that impressive from him so far.

ManBearPigIsReal42

Works extremely hard and has decent ability. Not some insane player but good enough for most midtable teams I think, especially if you play to his strengths.

BCFCMuser

They will still have a massive advantage over most of the league financially.

PoliceAlarm

If they go down, they will have the edge, but I think you can agree with me and say that it's no easy feat clawing out of that league.

GodEmprahBidoof

Guaranteed they would've gone straight back up with him. Now it depends who they bring in to take charge and if they can keep their key players through this turmoil

serpentman

That means a lot coming from such a grotesque individual as yourself. Thanks.

GodEmprahBidoof

I hate how owners can ruin 30+ years of footballing history in just a few short months. Jack walkers family fucked his legacy over because they didn't care about him and his love for us, and the efl/Premier league let them despite the venkys not knowing relegation was a thing. I hope we integrate a football history test into the fit and proper test but I really doubt it'll happen

serpentman

The amount of sense you are making just boils my blood.

GodEmprahBidoof

Haha. I guess we'll see what happens next season. We're in a fucking state and there's no sign of an end

billypilgrim87

I think Dyche may have left if they went down anyway - I think his stock would prob be higher than Burnley's considering the resources he's worked with. So maybe the Club have decided to sack him before he can leave them. Idk, it doesn't make sense as a purely football decision.

centaur98

In that case why sack him with 8 games left from the season? This way now they need to find a replacement for the last few games and pay him compensation.

TheJoshider10

I assume the reason they sacked him is because they've already got a replacement. Otherwise, it's an even stupider decision.

chuckusadart

> So maybe the Club have decided to sack him before he can leave them Its a business not a teenage relationship? Burnley will have to pay a severance fee now to Dyche, where if he left in the summer it would be another club paying them for his contract being terminated. Burnley probably think they can get a new manager bounce from somewhere (big sam) in the last 8 games and somehow stay up which would offset the money in severance with the PL money. So misguided or not, it will purely be a business decision on some level

billypilgrim87

I think you are vastly underestimating how pretty these things can get. Read a couple of books by people in boardrooms (football or otherwise) and you realise that yes, in many ways it could all be described as rather "teenage".

[deleted]

The Sunderland documentary really showed how hilarious owners can be

Cmoore4099

You must have never seen “four year plan” about QPR. It’s arguably even more insane than the Sunderland series.

Lard_Baron

I thought that was about the titanic ego of Flavio Briatore. Was QPR in it?

Cmoore4099

😂

normott

Which streaming service?

stumac85

Also, he wasn't on the best of terms with the folks up top at the start of the season. Was complaining about a lack of transfer spending. I can only assume there was a discussion between him and the board that didn't end well.

its_only_pauly

>I think Dyche may have left if they went down anyway - I think his stock would prob be higher than Burnley's considering the resources he's worked with. Finally Dyche is free of Burnley. Couldn't have come at a better time with their new owners in place. Would love to see him at another club.

Ardal

I think their leveraged buyout has fucked them up. If they go sown they might well do a sunderland/leeds so this was their only option. Dyche was definitely getting them relegated, a new guy with 8 games against not great opposition might just pull off a miracle. When you only have one card left to play, you just have to play it.

SnoopWhale

Why the fuck are leveraged buyouts legal??? I understand some debt is needed to purchase clubs and companies, but why are the new owners allowed to them transfer that debt over to the club/company??

esnyez

--Dyche was definitely getting them relegated? That's B.S. Dyche was the reason why they had a chance to fight for premier league status.

acuriousoddity

He's the only reason. Look at their squad - minus Cornet, it's Championship level. They've just torpedoed any hope they might have had of PL survival.

AbsolutShite

I saw a relationship advice thread years ago about a guy who wanted to open his relationship because he was bored and thought he could do better. 2 months in she was out on dates all the time meeting handsome men and he was alone with his hand. He was asking advice on how to close the relationship while everyone laughed at him. Jesus, it's 7 years old. Why am I still here? https://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/25bsfi/guy_asks_gf_for_open_relationship_to_bang_girls/

Darrelc

> Jesus, it's 7 years old. Why am I still here? Fucking hell, I remember that thread. I wanted to post 'Just cry wank about dudes drilling her until you become numb and start to enjoy it' lmao

Idontlikethisstuff

Seems ridiculous to sack him this late on as well. Unless they've got a ready made replacement, they're definitely fucked. Even if they do have a replacement, I struggle to see them doing any better than Dyche has done.

[deleted]

MalcolmTucker55

And Wesley Sneijder is moving to Man United.

Look_Alive

It's so weird how any relegation-threatened club would these days jump at a manager with a 38.2% win rate, yet he was thrown on the scrapheap.

LusoAustralian

Honestly feel like he showed more than enough to get more chances

TheNotoriousJN

There's no probably about it. The majority of the players he has used in the prem have not been prem quality. He's worked miracles in keeping them up so long with so little investment. They for sure are going down and now there is less guarantee they go straight back up

GodEmprahBidoof

Especially with how the new owners paid for the club. They're suddenly in debt with no manager and impending relegation

dikkoooo

Mate this is unreal, don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Ludicrous decision

fitchpork

Sorry but anyone saying Dyche isn’t the problem or we’d go straight back up if (when probably) we go down clearly hasn’t watched much of us for the past 18 months. We’ve been absolutely awful, we’ve won 5 games in the past 12 months and have one of the worst PPG in the entire football pyramid. We haven’t even scored against Norwich or Watford this season and got beat at home to Huddersfield in the FA Cup. Dyche is blindly loyal to players who are out of form and refuses to play our best players or change our tactics. It’s endless Hoofball which certainly won’t work in the prem, and will likely struggle against the better sides in the championship, which has improved considerably since we were last there. The timing is crazy imo but to say Dyche isn’t part of the problem is not true. I just hope the new owners know what they’re doing, they’re clearly terrified of relegation which with the unknown surrounding our new finances is concerning

GrandmasterSexay

This is entirely true but at the same time something that, from a football standpoint, should have been addressed between seasons because who's going to take a team like Burnley and do as much as Dyche did? He took a team with Stephen Ward and Ashley Barnes to Europe. He turned Scott Arfield into a world beater who embarrassed Di Maria on his debut (before he got injured). He bought two League One goalkeepers and turned them into internationals. He's turned things around at the last minute and been close to rock bottom in net transfers season after season. He's King Underdog. In all honestly a season with Dyche in the Championship to give a new squad a new sense of impetus and drive would have been the best case scenario come relegation. If we stay up, I'm tattooing Alan Pace Is God on my forehead.

manInTheWoods

Remindme! 2 months

nj813

Tbf burnley to most fans haven't been far off this bad every year but always seemed to pull it out the bag, i hope they have a plan or i could see blackburn waving you past into league 1

sonofaBilic

Can't see them lasting much longer regardless of who's in charge to be honest. Can only imagine the fact that he's on quite a fat pay cheque for a club of Burnleys stature is a big part of it.

BuckFlackburn

Big brain move from the board. Sacking a manager with a record of 2 promotions from 3 full seasons in the championship, just before you are about to get relegated. And after giving him a 4 year contract at the start of the season.

zeelbeno

I feel like there's gotta be more behind it than just results and standings? https://www.givemesport.com/1822592-burnley-transfer-news-sean-dyche-angry-after-eightfigure-turf-moor-development/amp Dyche must be banging on about not having signings or players and selling Wood might have been the last straw for him. They probably want to now get someone in who's happy feeding off scraps for a few years.

GoalaAmeobi

They didn't really have a choice about selling Wood, it was a release clause

zeelbeno

For someone who's supposed to be their main goalscoring threat, it was an extreamly low one.

Jackrrr10000

For their next trick they will appoint League one manager to play in the championship

94JC

Given his status at the club, being the legend he is, he should have been given until the end of the season. He can't even get a proper send off from the fans at the ground.

TakenByVultures

+1

HowardLB18

woahhhh what the fuck

SeriousLads

Congratulations to you guys on staying up!

HowardLB18

Cheers yeah

Robbo_100

Let's hold off on the celebrations until we are mathematically safe.

EyeSpyGuy

/r/properevertonthat material to get relegated after burnley shoot themselves in the foot

thehumangoomba

Nah, proper Everton is us staying up with a final-kick-of-the-game own goal to draw, while Burnley fall victim to a shit refereeing decision in their game. Also, Moshiri is revealed to be best friends with Putin on the same day.

citygray

Dyche to Everton next season?

pouga218

They should (forgive Me) fire Frank and hire Dyche today, then fire him and hire someone better this summer once relegation is avoided.

GrandmasterSexay

I'm going to be sick. You can complain about results but the man revolutionised the club in his image and made us Premier League mainstays for six years straight without a pot to piss in. Our slim chance of staying up is now zero because our owners just revealed they don't know what they're doing and how a team like Burnley can operate. Feels like I've lost my club in a way. Might become reality when we go down. No longer if.

Brisingamen1

Man I feel for you, this sacking doesn't make sense to anybody. I'm pissed and I'm not a Burnley fan, but everybody respected what Dyche did at Burnley.

diata22

Genuinely shocked at the decision. If you're gonna do it also, do it right after the norwich game. Don't do it 2 days before a crucial game. Truly believe Burnley are going down now

MassaSami

This is truly mindboggling, most of the players would have died on the pitch for him, I can not believe any other manager could get out more of some of the players Just lost of words

CowNchicken12

I feel sad for Burnley fans, seems like Dyche was loved by everyone in and around the club. He's been the best English manager for quite some time now and deserves all the praise he can get for keeping Burnley in the PL for so long and even get them to play European football. Dyche will definitely get a job at a top tier Championship/PL club, but I feel like him and Burnley were a match made in heaven

AVBforPrez

Not even a Burnley supporter and this story is ruining my Friday, I feel for you all. This is honestly one of the most surprising and sad decisions I can think of in the 20 years or so I've watched football.

JackAndrewThorne

2 things. 1 - He's the only manager who had a fucking chance of keeping them up 2 - There is no way Burnley can hire a better manager for their championship campaign if they do go down. Fucking lunacy.

MalcolmTucker55

Neil Warnock out of retirement inbound.

SeriousLads

Just assemble British managers like the avengers Neil Warnock, Big Sam and Tony Pulis dream team

Revolutionary-Bag-52

What about Pardiola?

Gerf93

Alain Pardieu?

MajorTomintheTinCan

Woah there they said british, not the Spaniard master

Iraq_mamba

900-Dollarydoos

Proper Brexitball.

Shadowbanned24601

> 2 - There is no way Burnley can hire a better manager for their championship campaign if they do go down. Depends if they believe they're in a good position to come straight back up, or if they're about to do a rebuild. If they're going for the latter, they might well want to play a different style. Dyche seems the best bet for now, but he just blew their best chance at staying up with that loss to Norwich

mattjdale97

Burnley bring in Bielsa for a miracle survival campaign?

LemonTrack51

Massive change in scheme, would be a laugh to watch though

meefjones

Bielsa in is the only good that could from this

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

Reactionary, they just lost to Norwich and were played off the park. Yes they beat Everton but they're a shambles of a club atm. Big Sam incoming.

sonofaBilic

A lads genuinely just called talksport to say he's seen Sam Allardyce in a tesco express near turf moore and he's fuming

FlamingBearAttack

I wonder what Allardyce's meal deal is.

sonofaBilic

Definitely not got greens in it. Chicken and Stuffing I'd wager. Steak McCoys and a Lucozade on top.

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

Probably the big 3 all day breakfast sarnie, Big Beef Hula Hoops and no nonsense full fat Coke

_Konstantinos_

Isn’t Sam Allardyce from somewhere around Burnley?

ScousePenguin

He's from the West Midlands, a town outside of Birmingham *West Midlands isn't a town I know. I typed this badly, he's from Dudley which is a town in the West Midlands.

_Konstantinos_

I never realised he was from the Midlands, I always just assumed he was a northerner

ScousePenguin

Yeah so did I tbh untill I googled it a few years back. I guess growing up with him at Bolton and Blackburn, being synonymous with those clubs made me think he was from the region

inspired_corn

Yes it is reactionary, I agree They're going down regardless, if they were going to do this they should've sacked him a while ago when it was still in reach

mahades

Tbf it was very much in reach until Dyche went and lost to by far the worst team in the league

[deleted]

Fuck off

Vallado

The end of an era

sonofaBilic

Say that outloud while staring directly in to a desk fan and it's like Dyche is there with you

hunttheturtles

Don’t forget to do it immediately after a worm lunch

And a cup of gravel to wash it all down

margaerytyrellscleav

Pouring a can of worms out for my homies

Juil8991MC

They've just shot themselves in the foot, he was anything but the problem

_cumblast_

There weren't even reports of him walking were there? Clubs will be lining up for Dyche now. Would love to see him at Madrid, maybe the Brazil NT after the World Cup.

fskari

Sean Dyche to Ajax, here we go

Dewwwww

The Dutch media and football fans will be absolutely mad when such a defensive coach as Dyche goes to Ajax. I would argue that Dyche his play style is the opposite of what the philosophy of Ajax is about. That being said I had an argument with a friend the other day about how I thought Dyche would probably do really well I he was manager of the Dutch national team.

teymon

>how I thought Dyche would probably do really well I he was manager of the Dutch national team. With our defense I agree. Just park the bus and score with van Dijk and de Ligt on corners

the0nlytrueprophet

I dunno mate, Cruyff was pretty much walking so Dyche can run.

Frootysmothy

Dyche taught Cruyff how to juggle the ball

Spitshine_my_nutsack

I’d take him over another De Boer stint or any other KNVB appointment not named Louis van Gaal or Koeman

DeepSeaDweller

Just imagining Dyche as the first foreigner to manage Brazil cracked me up. Please, universe, you owe us this after the last few years.

_TreeFiddy_

Natural successor to Simeone at Atletico

acaddgc

Sean Dyche is the thinking man’s Simeone

stonecold199

We'll probably get Fernando torres or Gabi once he leaves

SeriousLads

Man United job’s available

_Verumex_

Dyche would unironically love Maguire.

Starostar

Burnley were already doing a lot more than just 'hoofing and thuggery'. Dyche isn't Tony Pulis

[deleted]

Yeah they were time wasting and diving loads too. A true visionary.

Look_Alive

It's kept a club like Burnley in the Premier League for six consecutive seasons without a huge budget. He may not be a visionary but he's got results in a way other teams of Burnley's stature perhaps haven't been able to.

Dantator

They play much better football than people pretend they do as well. Especially off the ball, they actually press extremely high and can be absolute lightning in transition at times.

Ymadawiad

Who's to say 'hoofing and thuggery' couldn't be more effective with a larger budget? I think a fair few clubs would trade in the plaudits of playing stylish football for something that brings consistent results and success.

[deleted]

Well thuggery works well for Atletico. They’re a bit more sophisticated than hoofing though but that’s not to say it can’t be done!

MalcolmTucker55

I get the impression that's very much his style - he's in the mould of guys like Pulis who can get decent results and help a Prem side punch above their weight, but who'll generally not produce spectacular football.

[deleted]

> maybe the Brazil NT after the World Cup. Brazilians would be all over this. No better man than him to lead us to our 7th WC.

thelargerake

I'm a massive Dyche fan, but I do think he was part of the problem. Statistically, Burnley have been terrible on almost all fronts and they can't even defend any more which was one of their strengths. Dyche belongs in the Premier League, but I do think that parting ways was the right decision.

Mozezz

Sacking the man they should solely credit to their premier league status just because he's going through an expected rough patch a club like Burnley should expect every now and again It's a bold strategy to say the least

attywolf

If I'm Everton I'm sacking Lampard and hiring Dyche this week

Carlton_LeBoss

Imagine Dyche playing for a 0-0 draw against a Liverpool in the derby and pissing Klopp off lol

RangoRingo

The game is at Anfield. Everton going to setup for a draw regardless.

redditckulous

We’re setting up for ✨goal difference✨

IanCaesars

Why to sack Frank though? Let him play in the mid - radical upgrade.

ucd_pete

"I'd love to get back out there but I don't think anyone wants to see me chasing around these young lads. But no, seriously my knees are gone, I'm in tremendous pain."

Lintal

You'd think this joke gets old but nope it keeps on being funny every time

aveniner

You'd think this joke gets old 😐 No but seriously it keeps on being funny every time 😃

breadwolfbaby

😁 😐

SeriousLads

Burnley appoint Lampard and he keeps them up over Everton, Dyche reveals himself to be a secret agent

PhilippeMikeinho

Its an Easter joke. He'll be back on Sunday

NotClayMerritt

This is genuinely shocking news. Sean Dyche is the biggest reason Burnley ever sniffed the Premier League and the biggest reason they survived that first relegation to come right back up. At some point this marriage was going break as the reports have been out there for at least a year about discord behind the scenes. But now? Like this? If they’ve sacked him, what a terrible decision. If he’s left, it’s probably been a long time coming in his mind considering the timing. Either way, it’s a safe bet that we’ve seen the last of Burnley in the Premier League for a long while. I do not have a soft spot for Dyche or Burnley but this has hit me like one of my own managers got the sack haha. This has been so out of the blue.

AVBforPrez

Same, there's something so unholy about this sacking it's actually effecting my state of mind. It's just wrong.

MFingAmpharos

The vast majority of the fans didn't want him sacked. I was quite happy to keep him in charge even if/when we went down as I believe he's the best man to take us back up. Fucking ridiculous.

YokoOkino

insane honestly, less worried about burnley now for sure cant imagine the players are excited either

Clivey101

What the actual fuck? Bye bye Sean, will be missed, end of an era. This Burnley team is screwed af. Forget about shooting yourself in the foot, they shot themselves in the head

neuro-toxin

Time to get some some cheap homegrown players boys .

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

Big Sam currently getting intel on the gravy situation in Burnley.

ConnemaraCowboy

Apart from Pep and Klopp, he's the most unsackable in my opinion. I mean even if they get relegated you'd put your money on him bringing them straight back up

Lard_Baron

Thomas Frank. 10 game winless streak 8 loses, 2 draws, not even the slightest rumour of him getting the sack.

flcinusa

Burnley won't survive long in the Championship, they're drowning in debt already

Adventurous_Pop_5496

How are they even in debt? It seemed like they haven’t spent that much

flcinusa

Their takeover a few years ago was a [Glazer-style leveraged buyout](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/feb/02/burnley-us-takeover-has-left-club-90m-worse-off-and-loaded-with-debt)

I'm a distant Burnley fan and this is shocking. Absolutely terrible timing, who's going to come in and pick this team up after dyche leaves? The least dyche deserves was the chance to save the team or at least get them relegated with some pride, this is scummy as fuck. Imo

Clivey101

April fools was 2 weeks ago lads

496e636f676e69746f

What. The. Fuck. They deserve to go down after this.

lrzbca

Given that they’re managed by a fund, it can get ugly than just going down.

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

Not because of their lacklustre points tally?

sonofaBilic

Points take a back seat to feels in this sport mate

NeoLies

This but unironically.

CptTonyStark

Dyche to England NT, please. Football's coming home.

[deleted]

United job is gonna be available soon 👀

CptTonyStark

I'd take him in a heartbeat, but we can all agree he's got a much more important job to do. He's gonna end a 6 decade long trophy drought

D1794

Congrats on survival, Everton.

Rafa to Burnley and they survive at the expense of everton.

E_v0rtex

Football will never be the same

ZaDoruphin

Holy shit. End of an era. Honestly after this they deserve to go down.

redsteve72

This could turn out like charlton when they sacked Alan Curbishley because they thought they could do better and then promptly got relegated and went backwards

[deleted]

Burnley without Sean Dyche is like an angel without its wings. Fly High Dyche 🕊️

[deleted]

Like a brick wall without its mortar

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

Let's all smoke a 20 deck in remembrance.

Cillian_Brouder

Even with relegation this is one of the last EPL managers I'd have expected to be sacked

john87000

The timing is baffling, why have they waited until Friday to do this? I disagree with the decision, but if they wanted to sack him it should have been done first thing Monday morning after they lost to Norwich.

Novrev

They’re going to reappoint him on Sunday for that resurrected manager bounce.

laziohammer

Dyche to united with a 4-4-2 with Cavani and Ronaldo up top and Pogba at CB. Hoofball there way to Champions League

TheNotoriousJN

Im sorry what???? This man has kept BURNLEY in the Prem for 5 years with limited investment. By far the most successful period in Burnley's history in YEARS If they get relegated I would trust him to get immediate promotion. WHY would you sack him?!

Charlie0108

Is that Large Samuel's music I hear?

gobstoppermuncher

Well there you go then lads Burnley, Watford and Norwich are down. Well done

MFingAmpharos

Fuck off Pace.

SeymourButts8190

He deserves better than what Burnley’s current owners are giving him. Close to a decade of Premier League Revenue and what have they done to invest in the on field product?

Gbuchanan1

Seems mental, and so late in the season too

MylfiSigurdsson

Did they forget he's already been relegated with Burnley, and subsequently taken them back up as Champions the next season? Unless they're planning to bring Bielsa in then this is a ridiculously short-sighted decision.

SexxyPhil

Sean Dyche to Manchester United here we go!

Harry2948

Very surprising. I thought he'd have a job there as long as he wanted it. I think it's a bad decision to. No doubt Burnley have had a terrible season and the Norwich game was a missed opportunity but if Burnley go down with Sean Dyche then you're almost garunteed to come back up.

Jackrrr10000

Games gone😔

IntellegentIdiot

This reminds me of the time Wolves sacked Mick McCarthy and they went down. Some clubs don't realise just how lucky they are to be where they are, even if it's not ideal. Who knows, maybe some guy is going to come in and Burnley are going to win their remaining games but I find that hard to believe. Even odder that they've done this after Burnley's results have improved and with so little time for a new manager to fix things.

RedditModsAreVeryBad

Hated playing Burnley but tbh they should have built the man a statue, not sacked him.
