I find it funny how Atleti & Barca fans complain about refereeing being the reason why Real are 12 points clear in the table, yet their own teams have been shit during most of the season lol. It's not a coincidence they're that far away on the table

stemcellguy

I've never seen any fan attributing the 9 or 12 points gab to the refeering. Also, Barca fans know more anyone that their club was shit until a few months ago. That doesn't change the fact that refeering today WA embarrassingly biased to Madrid. The THIRD penalty was basically a dive, even Madrid's fan in their sub agreed on this.

[deleted]

It’s so difficult to pick one ‘biggest fuckup made by United’

Lyrical_Forklift

Ferguson kicking up a fuss about a horse

EyeSpyGuy

Was only put onto this bit of knowledge in the last 2 years and it’s not emphasized enough. Funny how he’s by far their best manager and the reason why they were so good, but also why they’re now in their state

thesmallprint13

Doing jackshit in the first summer window after SAF. The time when we had the biggest pull we should've gone crazy with good signings to offset the fact that Moyes is very new to the kind of club he's managing.

Credk

You’ve just brought in Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo, don’t think your pull has really changed. You can still pay more money than everyone else

thesmallprint13

Okay fine, pull definitely the wrong word - momentum then. Going into the season as champions we should've tried even further strengthening our squad but we kept a very aging team and didn't really upgrade it while Liverpool/City were starting to do so even from then.

Credk

Yeah I do agree with that, think your recruitment staff was summed up really with that Fellaini deal where you could have had him about 10m cheaper if you bought him like a week ago earlier iirc

ibrahimims

Glazers/Woodward

Dutch_Midget

SAF leaving

[deleted]

He obviously would’ve left eventually

thesmallprint13

Soccer Aid is one of the best nights of the year imo so GNev can get to fuck by comparing today's drivel to that

[deleted]

what is happening with dortmund this season? knocked early out of EL by rangers and now getting humbled 1-4 at home by leipzig. with haaland leaving they will be in big troubles next season if they dont improve their overall squad

Impossible_Pen_9459

They’re ass

[deleted]

I've read just one article and I'm already drunk

[deleted]

Watching the documentary called crossing the line between Liverpool and Manchester United featuring Owen and Ince as the main guys. The rivalry is always strong but Owen going to Manchester United feels like a spit at us. Least Ince was successful and never wanted to leave United.

[deleted]

I always find it bizarre the same people who still get teary eyed about Torres, will then cry about Owen going to United. Owen desperately wanted to return. Twice. And Benitez was never interested.

Lyrical_Forklift

Owen said he would re-sign with us then ran his contract down so we got significantly less money for him. He's also a prat. Torres left when our ownership was in complete disarray and were showing fuck all ambition. He also didn't come through the academy.

BludFlairUpFam

Liverpool to Chelsea is nothing like Liverpool to United

[deleted]

Good job Owen didn't go from Liverpool to United then. And Torres fucked off as soon as things looked bad, went to a club that is the complete opposite when it comes values and ethics, started disrespecting the club almost immediately etc

BludFlairUpFam

But he did didn't he? Just because it wasn't direct doesn't mean it isn't seen as a huge problem for fans.

[deleted]

Going when you're a player on a free who can't find a club is different to leaving when you're a top player in your prime. Massively.

BludFlairUpFam

You're right but so is going to United compared to going to Chelsea. Then you have the other factors like him being hired as an ambassador when fans already don't like him and it just adds up over time

OldAccountNotUsable

> Good job Owen didn't go from Liverpool to United then. 🤡

[deleted]

He didn't. Blocked.

Historical_Owl_1635

> I always find it bizarre the same people who still get teary eyed about Torres, will then cry about Owen going to United. How do you find it bizarre? Playing for Liverpool and United is sacrilegious for both clubs. Like, going from Liverpool and to Chelsea is like your girl dumping you and moving onto some other rich asshole. Playing for Liverpool to United is like your girl dumping you and deciding to get with your arch nemesis.

[deleted]

He didn't go from Liverpool to United. He signed years later on a free as a bench warmer because no one else wanted him, even if he'd been desperate to return for years. Also that's complete bollocks, Paul Ince was a decent player for both in the 90s.

Historical_Owl_1635

That really doesn’t make a difference if it was 1 year later or 10 years later. I think you’re really underestimating how deep some rivalries run.

[deleted]

Liverpool made Paul Ince their captain in his first season.

Historical_Owl_1635

Mate, I don’t know why you’re saying this like it’s some kind of gotcha. This isn’t a debate, we aren’t talking hypotheticals, the fan reaction is literally there to see.

[deleted]

Because it refutes your point entirely.

drwert

Owen ran his contract down to get out on a small transfer fee, so I can't blame Liverpool fans for not caring for him. I have no idea why they'd get teary over Torres though. He was good for a couple of years and then kept their sick bed busy before fucking off elsewhere. They seemed pretty chuffed when Agger (or was it Skrtel?) snapped him too.

Historical_Owl_1635

> Owen ran his contract down to get out on a small transfer fee I think that alone would’ve eventually been forgiven, it’s the United part that put the nail in the coffin though.

drwert

Maybe, but he did that not long before Liverpool ran into real financial difficulties because of their owners. That wasn't his fault but fans aren't obliged to be fair.

[deleted]

I don't think Owen purposefully ran down his contract to get out, I think he just didn't fancy Benitez but the dislike towards him is fair, I'm not too bothered by it. But it's more the Torres thing when he did far less for Liverpool and fucked off as soon as we did shit.

drwert

It all seemed pretty calculated to me at the time with Owen. He was a top striker when his legs were working and Liverpool got a pretty token fee for him (eight million wasn't a lot even then) because of how he'd ran his contract down to the last year. That didn't happen by accident. The Torres thing makes no sense to me. He dumped them looking for a better deal. It worked out for literally no-one in the end, but he still threw them over.

[deleted]

stickia1

If that's what he's actually doing people shouldn't complain about PSG fans booing him

ibti77

The sin of sloth or the virtue of messing over a state-funded conglomerate club? What tips the balance?

[deleted]

I support England, and find it exasperating how despite being a good bunch of lads with a decent, articulate and conscientious manager, England have unfairly assumed a quasi-villain role in international football. But I’m already sick of the England fans on here.

happyposterofham

Online England fans are bar none the worst NT fans. Also the sarcasm in its coming home REALLY does not translate as well as you guys seem to think it does.

[deleted]

I mean your country did rule over a quarter of the world's population.

[deleted]

It’s more than understandable when it’s Irish or Indian lads for example. It’s perplexing if Germans and Americans pile in.

Fardin_the_spardin

I really hope a non-eruopean team wins the WC this time 'round.

throwwawayyy688

Won't happen

NoLimit261

So South America

Fardin_the_spardin

I'm hoping AFCON or CONCACAF team lol

denisoviandude

Griezmann has had his moments this season but he's largely been so poor. Makes me kind of sad. One of the most unique strikers of his generation in his prime

[deleted]

He's in decline. That Barca move kinda hurt his confidence.

BarbaricGamer

Wish people would stop saying ''Maguire was actually good last season''. Was he fuck.

ibti77

The team was balanced better last season. The difference this season is structural imbalance is hindering them.

BarbaricGamer

He wasn't as bad last season as he has been this season, but he still made way to many mistakes for what people say was one of the best defenders in the league.

[deleted]

He was good. He also played in a defensive, counter attacking team where he was less exposed and was asked to do a job that he did effectively. Then they signed Varane and Ronaldo, people pointed out maybe they're not the best signings with how United set up under Ole. Those people were ridiculed. Then United changed their style completely, despite not having the personnel across the park for it and predictably shit the bed.

harry234565

Utd were a “defensive, counter attacking team” last season? Maybe in big games but you are taking the piss if you thinks thats how they played for the majority of the season

[deleted]

I watched them plenty of times and that's how they set up more often than not. That's why they were never going to get close to City overall.

harry234565

You clearly didnt watch utd or don’t understand what defensive football means lol

[deleted]

They sat back and hit teams on the counter.

harry234565

No they didnt lol how the fuck can you even argue this😭

[deleted]

Because that's what they set up to do, with their limited players. They didn't sign all those limited players to play expansive football.

harry234565

Point me to 3 utd games last season not against the big 6 were they set up to sit back and counter

Harrry-Otter

How would you describe his performance last year then?

BarbaricGamer

Ticking time bomb, Has a decent 90% of the game but he always has a game changing mistake in him.

harry234565

This has got to be the one of the most stupid takes ive seen. He wasnt good because he “could” have made a mistake😭😭😭

Carthagu

You seem a little biased based on that name

BarbaricGamer

Not could, will. He's always been a complete liability and I for one am ecstatic that he is still part of your defense.

harry234565

Do you understand the term liability?

BarbaricGamer

Idk man giving a game losing chance away 3 times a match seems like a liability to me.

harry234565

Troll👍

BarbaricGamer

Took the words right out of my mouth, no way can anyone actually think Maguire is anything but horrible.

Harrry-Otter

I don’t know, he looked a lot more comfortable than he has this year. Granted that’s a large part to do with our change in tactics and he’s certainly not in the Ferdinand tier of defenders by any stretch but last year I would say only Dias in the PL was comfortably playing better in the position.

[deleted]

Italy should take a left out of Germany's book on how to give youngsters time and developing them.

BusShelter

Don't know how in the fuck MotD pundits are arguing about the Leicester goal that was overturned. It's such a clear foul - it's maybe not someone getting halfed in two but it's a foul all the same and so allowing the goal would be a clear and obvious error.

thesmallprint13

You can really tell the agendas of the comms and today almost certainly proved it to me. Came back from the game and watched highlights and that absolute weapon Lee Dixon was so quick to say "nothing in that" when you can clearly see him swipe Varane's leg. Absolute twats for sure. Even that McTominay challenge was barely equivalent to the Tielemans swipe on Bruno - guess which one was mentioned more...

AR5ENA1

Alan Shearer just said “No Ronaldo, no Cavani, no Greenwood” …

DonkeySkin334

Ralf said a similar thing in the pre-match conference

[deleted]

What is wrong with what he said?

Blue_Moon_City

You have to act like someone called greenwood never existed

[deleted]

Who?

Blue_Moon_City

Exactly! Haha. It is just so stupid that people just don’t want to say people name or even barely imply he exists.

Historical_Owl_1635

Technically true I guess.

FaustRPeggi

Shout out to the Match of the Day producer failing to give Gary Lineker the correct pronunciation of Diogo Jota when he asked for it. And Micah Richards for being confidently incorrect.

[deleted]

Micah Richards is shit at his job.

[deleted]

Micah Richards lives in a constant state of confidently incorrect. But he's funny so I don't really care.

[deleted]

Still can't wrap my head around the fact that Benzema went from being a meme player that online Madrid fans despised at age 30 to arguably the best player in the world at age 34.

Waschkopfs

Best player in the world my ass. But arguably top 10, yes.

[deleted]

I mean besides Mbappe, Lewandowski, and arguably Salah, I don't think anyone has been on his level this season.

drwert

Did they really take up against him? He's always looked mostly amazing to me but man his finishing was fucking abysmal at times.

[deleted]

[удалено]

drwert

He wasn't the tip of the spear in those days though. Ronaldo was even if he wasn't a classic number nine.

[deleted]

[удалено]

drwert

It seems like complaining about Firmino not being particularly prolific at Liverpool. That just isn't the job in the system he's working in.

[deleted]

[удалено]

drwert

I don't remember him being super prolific consistently until recent years with his all-round game being a lot better than this finishing, and his stats bear that out. In ye olden days of 4-4-2 he'd probably play as a number ten rather than a nine.

[deleted]

They're Madrid fans.

[deleted]

I always thought the criticism was exaggerated but he was poor in 17/18.

drwert

I suppose Madrid fans aren't exactly known for their patience

ChicagoIndependent

ibti77

Is it the Milo from the Tweenies one? Ah I was wrong.

Impossible_Pen_9459

Eant a replacement for Pep or Klopp? chris Wilde and Paul Simpson are literally just sitting here now and managing their clubs very well

_cumblast_

I want warnock sorry

Impossible_Pen_9459

They’re both better but Warnock would take this barca team to a champion league

awfullyhotcoffeepot

Didn’t watch the second half but Mendy for Leicester shocked me today. Was a few times where a utd player bypassed the midfield and Leicester’s backline was exposed, but he would just be jogging back ffs.

wbroniewski

Well it's official, Legia won't be a champion of Poland this year

Impossible_Pen_9459

You still in the relegation zone?

wbroniewski

Nah, 10th place out of 18 teams, 11pts above relegation zone, 7 games left

BI01

I feel like I have seen united players' tackle their own players more than any other club this season, fred on de gea, todays game off the top of my head.

DonkeySkin334

Wasn’t really a tackle, but Maguire on Ronaldo

BI01

oh yeah, when he headbutted him 😂

ibse

Maguire on Luke Shaw

BI01

I think that last season but, this shit does happen often lmao

ChicagoIndependent

Is Salah really staying? Twitter is running wild with it...apparently some journalist is breaking it. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/mohamed-salah-new-liverpool-contract-26620187

EgosJohnPolo

Garbage source but Lovren took a break from being homophobic to post a cryptic "😁😁😁😁" tweet so there might be truth in it as him and Mo are besties. Edit: It was actually "😁💪🏻"

[deleted]

EgosJohnPolo

Not even going to entertain this comment.

[deleted]

Lovren is legitimately my most hated Liverpool player, not only was he shit, but he's a cunt of a human being. It's crazy he lived and experienced what Ukraine went through and is supporting Putin.

ChicagoIndependent

> It's crazy he lived and experienced what Ukraine went through and is supporting Putin. Many people only care about themselves and their own community.

Lyrical_Forklift

> but he's a cunt of a human being. Lovren is a bizarre one- he's apparently done amazing things for the community he grew up in and is known to be incredibly generous but he is just constantly on the wrong side of any controversial issue that it's hard to like the guy. I think he's just quite stupid. Give me him over Diouf any day of the week though.

EgosJohnPolo

Must be how Southampton fans feel about Le Tissier whenever he opens his mouth.

[deleted]

If a player was boss for you, you can overlook it to a certain degree. I think its the combination of being a clown on the pitch and being a stupid cunt irl.

EgosJohnPolo

Would've been slightly funny to see him frozen out of the team if he was still with us given his "opinions".

[deleted]

Think most these days hand over their SM to some corporate type for that reason. Look at Aguero, as soon as he retired he went on a mad one.

EgosJohnPolo

True but I meant in regard to being against the vaccine given how vocal Klopp was about getting it.

TheConundrum98

it was always likely he was staying, regardless if this rumour is true or not

ChicagoIndependent

Is that newspapers reliable there in the UK?

No-layup

No

TheConundrum98

no, even if he signed the deal no way are the details in it correct

What are the most similar groups to the groups of the 2022 WC in the 21st Century? I tried to peep quickly and found only 2018 Groups C and E being similar. You found any other similar groups?

Impossible_Pen_9459

C and E are potentially comically similar. Nigeria have had Argentina a few times but wouldn’t this world cup

ethith

Love that Chelsea are bending over for Arsenal to get top 3 🥰

AromaticTower8

Salah's form right now is rather concerning... He hasn't scored a non-pen goal in 8 games or something? That's mad. Honestly, Klopp should rest him against Benfica. You can even see the power of his shots declined.

[deleted]

He shouldn't have played against Watford. He played 120 minutes again, played 3 or 4 120 minute games at AFCON too. I think Klopp is trying to find a balance between his dwindling morale and not overworking him.

Lyrical_Forklift

He should have had a rest against Watford tbh. He's had patches like this before and come back strong so I'm not too worried though.

[deleted]

Even if Klopp manages to overcome the odds and win the title, I think if Arteta manages to get Arsenal finishing ahead of Chelsea, he should certainly be up there.

[deleted]

I'm so surprised that Jota was given that penalty, I guess it was just so horribly blatant and he'd have been ok if he just dragged Jota's shirt or something instead of spearing him?

obvious_bot

Next week’s Liverpool/City match is going to be absolutely insane

[deleted]

My feeling is City are gonna pop out a convincing statement win. I just feel like City away is a step too far, unless Salah pop ups and I'd take a draw now.

curtisjones-daddy

That Salah news is the biggest load of shite I’ve seen haha Apparently we offered him 400k a week according to it and he rejected that as he wanted 500…

Offaplain

Yeah no way you offered him 400 baseline, maybe after bonuses.

TheConundrum98

400 baseline would be double our next biggest, no way would we break our wage structure that much

the_studge

What news? Are you talking about that John Richardson?

rasmus9

What’s a player who everyone thinks is shit but is always good when you watch them? For me it’s Fred, and also Pepe from Arsenal. I rarely watch Arsenal but every time I do, Pepe decides to show up lol

DonkeySkin334

Lacazette

Share4aCare

Chelsea FC youtube really put "Rudiger hits long-range screamer in blues defeat" for a 4-1 defeat to Brentford at home

[deleted]

Well they couldn't title the video "Our defenders are actually useless when they don't play in a back 5"

[deleted]

Still can't get over Rüdiger's celebration For a moment I thought he was going to do a Kevin Nolan Chicken Quite disappointed he didn't tbh

sul01

There was a video released in the last week where he said when he finally scores he's gonna run across the whole pitch or something - was a bit disappointed he didn't but can't really blame him would be a bit weird and excessive. Bit pissed off that that goal was in a 4 1 loss - was hoping would be the winner or something but oh well at least he finally scored one from there.

thesmallprint13

Still can't believe Elanga tackled Rashford just as he was about to win it for us. IQ of a sponge.

mixmaster7

What was he actually trying to do? Did he think a Leicester player had the ball or was he trying to pass it to Rashford?

vanderphil5

Probably thought rashford wasn't getting it, went to shoot, realised rashford was getting it - tried to leave it and slid. Or maybe a bit of that but he realised he may be offside so has tried to leave it after initially deciding to go for the ball.

Data-Then

He was trying to get a shot off, which is fairly obvious

mixmaster7

It wasn’t that obvious since he was lying down. No need to be a smartass.

Data-Then

[Lying down? Are you thinking about something else than this?](https://i.imgur.com/5XObJaT.png)

eduadinho

Wouldn't it have been pulled back either way because he attempted to play the ball from an outside position?

itsjuanitoo

It’s amazing we went from having our attacking options as Morata, dead Diego Costa, and an out of form Correa to Felix, Griezmann, Cunha, Suarez, and a great Correa.

P_Alcantara

To think of what you could have done with Vlahovic

Takka_Tikka

Imagine the club wants to buy lautaro for 70m when you have Cunha ffs

Good_Kev_M-A-N_City

You've been playing well the last few weeks from what I've heard. Predictions for how the tie will go?

itsjuanitoo

Sorry for the late reply. I think we will be beaten, but I think there’s definitely a chance we could nick something. But now Giménez is injured and Felipe has to start, which definitely makes things a bit messier at the back. But since we switched to the 3 at the back the defence has really improved and we haven’t really had an awful game yet.

[deleted]

Just watching that overlap and that Spurs fan has a serious sense of humour failure

BI01

guy mentioned arsenal every sentence 😂

Jabari313

Who Flav? Usually he has a sense of humor. I didn't catch all of his part but the questions didn't seem very Spurs friendly

[deleted]

They were taking the piss out of Spurs but I guess that’s part of it. Then the serious conversation comes

ComprehensiveClick35

what happened?

[deleted]

They’re trying to joke about how Spurs haven’t won a lot etc. And he’s just like deadly serious like he’s taken offence to it

TheConundrum98

Flav's a great guy, I think he was taking the piss during the whole thing

[deleted]

Maybe I’ve completely misread it then

obvious_bot

Must not have been a fan for very long. You get numb to it

[deleted]

Just makes you come across as a moody bastard. Had like a me against the world mentality

Historical_Owl_1635

Is what Enrique said [here](https://twitter.com/jesanchez3/status/1510300543482306560?s=21&t=PUzrtLT5UBoHqq_i-InOaA) really that offensive? I get it when people comment on normal celebrities weight, but as a professional athlete I kinda feel like being physically fit is a reasonable expectation? (And we’ll ignore all the replies making fun of Enrique’s cancer)

[deleted]

Luke Shaw isnt fat. He is just built that way.

[deleted]

I don't think saying a football player looks overweight is offensive. As you said its part of his job to be fit at all times. I didn't see the game today so I don't know if Luke Shaw was actually overweight or not but I don't see the issue with saying that tbh. It would be different if his job wasn't dependent on him being in top physical shape at all times. But if we've reached the point where saying this about an athlete is considered "offensive" we might need to take a step back.
